5works like a charm
By Brandon P.
I purchased this cable in order to watch content from my Lenovo T410 laptop on a HD TV. The laptop has a DisplayPort (DP++) output and the TV has HDMI input.

Simply by connecting the ends of this cable to my laptop and TV, I had an 720p HD image of my laptop screen almost instantly. However, there was no audio.

The lack of audio was *not* due to any flaw in the cable. In the process of troubleshooting, I saw several websites which simply blamed this sort of no-audio problem on a "cheap cable" -- but, while this cable is certainly inexpensive (which is one of the reasons I got it!), it has no trouble carrying audio (and very clear audio, at that).

I eventually found a Lenovo forum which held the answer: "First go to your audio settings by going FN + F6, choose 'Audio Defaults + Settings'. Then choose your TV as the default audio."

This did the trick for me -- I instantly had audio (both through the laptop speakers and the HD TV).

The poster on the Lenovo forum also had this piece of advice (which I never followed, since the first step solved the problem for me): "Now the sneaky part. Push FN + F7 and choose 'Projector Only', then sound will come out of the TV. Took me forever to figure out." Again, I had no need to do this, but I'm re-posting it in case someone else does.

In summary, after some fiddling with my cpu's settings, this cable delivered all that was promised: crystal clear audio and visual from my laptop to my HD TV. Note: I have only used the cable on a handful of occasions during the past few weeks, so I'm not in a good position to evaluate its durability. As a previous reviewer has mentioned, when the DisplayPort end connects to the computer, it "latches" into place, and a small panel must be pressed in order to release it -- this "release latch" doesn't feel like the most sturdy thing in the world, but it hasn't given my any problems so far, and handled gently, I would imagine that it will continue to function just fine.

5great cable
By Chris
I had been looking for something to hook my Lenovo ThinkPad T420 up to an HDMI based display (both a projector and a 40" TV). I almost ordered one of the cheap adapters I found on Amazon until I read the reviews that they got stuck in the Display Port on the computer and would not come out. I then opted to go for a cable with the Display Port on one end and the HDMI on the other end. This cable is great. Does exactly what I needed it to. I get full 1920 x 1080 on both the projector and TV which is the resolution they support, and the sound goes through as well. Couldn't be happier.

5Excellent. The only 25' DisplayPort to HDMI cable I could find and it works great.
By S. Power
My HP EliteBook 8560p has a DisplayPort video output on it instead of the older HDMI type of port. There are a pretty good number of "adapters" on the market, and also short cables, but I wanted a durable end-to-end solution with none of the opportunities for issues that an adapter introduces. I wanted to get this cable from AmazonBasics or from Cables-to-Go, because I've have very good luck with both of them. As it turned out, when I was shopping, this one from "Cable Matters" was the only option that met my needs. I am happy to say, that I am not disappointed at all. The cable does great at sending high definition 1080P 120hz video and high definition audio from my laptop's DisplayPort to my TV's HDMI input. It works wonderfully, and I'm very happy.

The cable is well made and has good, solid, connectors on both ends. It is the correct length and was packaged properly. It is malleable, yet solid.

I have no complaints at all about this cable. The price was a little steep at $25, when I bought it, but considering there is no competition yet for this length cable, I'm not too surprised or upset. I can remember paying two or three times that amount for a similar cable at brick and mortar stores, back before there were alternatives.

I highly recommend this cable. If there is anything else that you'd like to know about it, that I forgot to put in this review, please let me know in the comments section, and I'll address it.

5works fine if you have to use VGA
By Omar Siddique
An inexpensive way to connect your Macbook to old-style VGA inputs. This one worked fine with my 2013 Macbook Pro (Retina) running Mavericks without any configuration.

With the macbook lid open, the external screen defaulted to an extension (lower-res) of the laptop display. With the lid closed, the external display was the "complete" display. These are configurable, but worth noting the default behavior-- by contrast, with a Mini Displayport to Displayport adapter, the default was to "mirror" the displays even when the macbook lid is open.

The VGA connection is by definition an analog one, so if you have the option, you should use something else. My order of preference is (mini)DisplayPort, HDMI, DVI-D.

VGA connectors are my last choice, but this adapter is handy to have if you're in the lamentable situation of needing to use this old analog method (eg, connecting to older projectors). It's nice that AmazonBasics adapters provide a cheap, reliable alternative to expensive Apple-branded accessories. Recommended if you need to connect your Macbook to a VGA-input display.

5Worked right out of the box on my Microsoft Surface
By Billy Hollis
There's not much to say about a cable. All you really need to know is what it's good for and whether it works.

If you have a mini-DisplayPort on your device, and you need VGA output, this is the cable for that. Several tablet form-factor devices, including the Microsoft Surface, have such a port.

I plugged this thing into my Surface, and then got a VGA monitor with a VGA cable to go with it, plugged it all together, and it just worked.

Note that the VGA side is female, so you need another VGA male-to-male cable to make it work with typical VGA monitors and projectors. Almost all the VGA cables you are likely to have around are male-to-male, so that should not be a problem.

This is very short, so you would need another cable anyway. But for travel purposes, that's good. If you are connecting to a VGA projector, the cable will be available, and you probably don't want to be carrying a long cable around.

I already had a cable to get HDMI out of my Surface, but trying to daisy-chain that with a HDMI-to-VGA cable didn't work. So I'm now carrying two cables, and with those, my Surface should be able to talk to just about any projector or monitor I run across.

4Not just for an Apple Device
By Mugsy
I ordered this to use on a new Dell Laptop and a Microsoft Surface Pro II that both use DisplayPort technology. Arrived on time (Prime Account), as should be expected and paid for. Easy to connect and it worked on both devices. Price was a lot cheaper than others out there and it does the job. Only concern is that the screw inserts are a little sunk into the frame and it may be difficult to firmly attach a VGA display cable to it. Other then that I would have rated it a "5".

5Price is right, looks good, performs flawlessly
By A. Dent
A - This is indeed what you need - this is NOT a 'regular' HDMI cable. One of its ends is a 'mini' (Type C) connector that may be required by certain cameras such as the Flip MinoHD but is not compatible with 'regular' equipment. And do NOT confuse the 'mini' with the 'micro' (Type D) HDMI connector which is even smaller and works with the newest/smallest gadgets. Check your gadget's manual before you place your order. Tablets tend to require a 'micro' connector.

B - You don't mind paying very little. If you search Amazon for 'HDMI mini' you will find quite a few similar items, some of them selling for a lot more but performing the exact same fashion.

And, talking about specs, this cable is a 'High Speed' rated HDMI 1.4 cable 'with Ethernet'.

- The 'High Speed' rating is largely meaningless, indicating that the cable supports 1080p video - almost all do and no one should ever consider buying anything less.
- The 'with Ethernet' badge indicates that if the 2 connected devices support Ethernet AND support HDMI 1.4, they will be able to use the HDMI cable for Ethernet traffic instead of requiring a separate additional phone-like wire. Of course, none of the small cameras that would use a mini HDMI connector talk 'Ethernet' so this 'with Ethernet' feature doesn't really matter much.
- 6 ft. length is just about right. The cable is long enough to allow for a connection to the back of your TV or receiver while the 'mini' end can be pulled to the front where your camera would plug. My new receiver came with a front HDMI port and a good-looking 6 ft. cable for playing video on the big screen from my camera is exactly what I needed.
- It's pretty. Given that this is a visible HDMI cable, not something that goes to the back of your entertainment center, looking good adds value.

I had no trouble to plug the mini end into my MinoHD and the regular into a our receiver and play video directly. Playback was flawless and, even though this is not something that everyone needs or anyone needs often, it doesn't hurt having one around.

I am granting this cable 5 stars because it performs flawlessly, the price is absolutely right and for its premium looks.

5met my expectations
By barells
I'm 6'2, so any monitor that I've bought has always been too short for me.
This monitor stand did the trick. But, one word of caution, is that I had
to use the highest level (about 5 inches), so if you need more height
extension then 5 inches, you might want to look at alternatives. For me
the 5 inches was perfect.

5Very solid, especially for the price
By Olaf Piesche
Clamps to the desk with two finger screws, which doesn't seem like it would be very stable, but once installed it's rock solid. No wobble, it doesn't feel or look cheap. Very solid, relatively easy to install; height adjustment is only possible for both monitors at a time, not individually, but that's no big drawback. Cable clamps along each arm, which feel a bit flimsy but work. Comes with a surprisingly good, big, rubber coated allen wrench to tighten the screw that holds the arms vertically. Quick adjustment of the monitors is not possible, so it's a set-it-and forget-it mount. If you need to adjust monitor height frequently (such as transitioning from sitting to standing), this one's not for you. It's no-frills, but very good build quality. I don't think I'd be able to find another monitor mount of this quality for this price.

5Way better than expected given the price
By William Pallies
This stand is extremely sturdy and adjustable. I've had it for over a year now and have not had any problems with it. When I first bought it, I was expecting something satisfactory at best, given the low price. Every other VESA mount I had seen was at least double to quadruple the price, so I figured I'd be cheap and get something that works barely. Instead, this stand exceeded my expectations in every category. It mounts easily, is solid, looks good, and lets me adjust the display's tilt and angle with ease.

5Excellent Product and Price!
By Ookpic
Picked up this stand over the holidays. It has excellent quality! I have 2 Samsung 23" monitors mounted on it with no problems. VESA screws that came in the kit worked excellent. Unit is very adjustable, tilt, pan, height, etc etc. It even looks great!. If you are looking to clean up the clutter that sits in and around your monitor bases then this fits the bill. Even comes with built in clips to manage your cords! I would highly recommend.

3Good Quality, but keeps slipping out
By John Mccarron
The overall quality of the cable seems great. It's heavy duty while not being too rigid, but for some reason the Micro USB side keeps slipping out of my phone (partially). A co worker of mine has the same exact cable and doesn't have this problem with his phone, so maybe it's my phone's fault.

(Update)
Now that I've been contacted by Mediabridge's customer support, I have to say that this is the best experience that I've had buying something so small and simple. They found my review on here on Amazon, contacted me and sent me out a new replacement cable. I was willing to just let it go and cut my losses, but they actually contacted me. You can't get better than that!

5The right item for my kindle fire
By JB
I never give much importance to usb cables. However, after receiving my kindle fire and seeing that I would need such a cable to connect my kindle to my computer I set out for a search. I found so many cables listed some with outrageous prices so I said to myself I will order the least expensive one. I paid 2 dollars for the first one. It arrived and did not work I felt sheepish to say the least.
Back to amazon I go to order another. I saw this one for 6 dollars and prime eligible and wanting to make the most of my free month of prime membership ordered it. It arrived today and I plugged in my kindle fire to both my pc and mac and it works. What a great feeling. This cable feels very solid and it works with my kindle fire and I am now able to transfer my books/music/videos.
If you are looking for a well made cable that works for the kindle fire this is it.

1Great customer service, unfortunately the cord has inherent design defects
By H. George
I remember receiving the cord several months ago and being very pleased with the build quality and design. The cord seemed to be well made and well shielded. However, it was about a month later when the cord started having connectivity problems. I would have to attach it to the phone at just a certain angle before it would connect and charge. It was definitely the cord as the phone had no issues with other cords.

I was on my way to write a bad review, when I noticed that the company had commented with support information on each negative review. I called the support number and was pleased to see that a live person answered my call immediately and shipped me a replacement cord, no questions asked. Their customer service is excellent. Also, remember that the cord has a one year warranty.

I received a new cord within a few days and I was happy to give this company another go. The second cord worked perfectly for a few months then it, once again, started having the same issue again. It would not connect unless I held it slightly to the right and wrapped my cord around the phone to maintain the cord in that position. This was really annoying after a while and I called customer service again. I was happy to see that their service was just as good as my first time and they have agreed to ship me a replacement without much issue.

I am a little frustrated with having two cords fail on me, especially since I don't place a lot of strain on the cords, nor do I bend them or twist them in a way that should damage two cords. Any pressure exerted on the cord is just normal use. So I cut open the head to investigate.

I found that the inside was a rigid plastic that encapsulated the wires. This hard capsule does not apply the cord any flexibility and therefore creates a break when the line bends too much. I twisted the wire half-way down the line and I could see the red wire in the head move slightly away from the solder - enough to break the connection. I recommend a change in design that allows a little more flexibility inside the head and a more rigid head. I noticed that the head was too flexible and a turn left or right of the connection head would change the cord's position enough to sever the solder connection.

In short: great customer service, great exterior quality, poor inside connection design.

5Truly Plug & Play and Work Great
By IGold
This item is as described. In reading some of the other reviews, I believe the confusion is in the initial paring of the units. All I did was plug them into two different outlets in the same room (clearly they were on the same circuit) and paired them, I did not even bother to plug in any Ethernet cables. I then moved one unit near my router and the other unit to a distant bedroom, hooked up the Ethernet cables and everything worked as described. I did not use the software resource disk that came with them.

I am getting much faster speeds in the bedroom than I was with Wireless N. I changed the cables to Cat 5e and both units are humming along with green lights. I would highly recommend these to anyone with wireless issues.

Also, although they are bigger than your typical power wart, they are designed so that if you plug them into the bottom outlet of the receptacle, they do not interfere at all with top outlet, leaving it free for a power strip or UPS. This was one of the unknown concerns I had prior to purchase.

For clarification the model I am reviewing is the TL-PA511 KIT.

4OMG I have internets.
By C. miller
We live in a 100 year old house with plaster walls underneath wood paneling. Pity us. Wireless will not penetrate the walls no matter how many repeaters / antennae / amps / cats with tinfoil you place. My 14 year old daughter was throwing a stereotypical teenage girl conniption fit that her wireless kept dropping out, had a 1mbps downstream, and was generally poo. After some last ditch settings adjustments I ordered these, on the advice from a popular hardware forum.
While they were a little fiddly to initially pair, once I got them installed, it was magic. Digital unicorns flew out of my daughter's Tumblr feed at the speed of 30mbps, and she no longer things I'm a moron.

In other words, works awesome.

5Just As Good As The More Expensive Brands With Intercompatibility!!
By Hyoun Kim
I've been a Network Engineer for over 10 years and ever since I've dealt with computers, cabling is one of the worst aspects of the job. I can't tell you how many times I've run/extended CAT3/CAT5/CAT5e/CAT6 cabling and ended up terminating both ends and testing them. Some situations are easier than others when you're allowed to run a cable across the floor or above ceiling tile... but in other situations like getting networking in a certain room in your house can be a total pain in the butt.

For the average home user, the only way to get networking from point A to your house to point B is either wired with cabling or use WiFi & bridging if the WiFi didn't extend far enough. When Powerline technology came out it added convenience of using existing power cabling but still was a little flaky and troublesome. But since then, Powerline has jumped leaps and bounds since and is much more reliable & faster.

When it came time to buy originally back in July 2012, I put a lot of research into looking into the latest powerline solution for my home. I wanted something with high performance and the current version of "high performance Powerline devices" allows 500Mbps transfer rate. Even still, I was having trouble selecting which manufacturer to go with (Belkin, Cisco, Netgear, etc). After my homework (and despite Netgear's horrible sales support), I ended up with the NETGEAR Powerline 500Mbps Nano Adapter - Starter Kit (XAVB5101).

Despite the insane price point (currently $87.99 on Amazon - 12/13/2013; I bought these for $108 back in July 2012), the Netgear adapters worked wonderfully in my home. I was able to maintain faster throughput from device to device while on wired Ethernet while not saturating my WiFi network. However, over the course of a year and a half, the number of devices I had in my house grew considerably (especially over WiFi).

In the past year, I added a few cell phones, a laptop, a tablet, a Roku 3, a Western Digital TV Live, 2 Chromecasts, and a new Smart TV. Because of that, my WiFi started to become degraded because every single one of those new devices was connecting to my network over WiFi. When multiple devices would start streaming things like Netflix and I was doing transfers from my media server to a PC, Netflix would stutter and my WiFi throughput would literally crawl slower than a snail on a salt bed. That's when I realized I needed to invest in more Powerline Adapters for certain rooms to speed up transfers as well as help reduce the load of my WiFi network.

But you see, despite being pleased with my Netgear adapters, I didn't want to spend another $100. A friend of mine (who I told the Netgear adapters about) bought another brand of Powerline AV 500Mbit adapters from a company called TP-Link to save money. He said they worked pretty good. After finding out that they were $35 on Amazon, I immediately pulled the trigger. I mean after all, I had a word of mouth approval from a friend and you can't argue saving over $50 vs another set of my Netgear adapters... the result? Absolutely no difference in speeds.

Just like the Netgear adapters, these are essentially Plug & Play. There were literally no problems connecting these in my house. I went to the living room where I needed wired connectivity and plugged these up to the wall. The TP-Link adapter immediately recognized my existing Netgear Powerline adapters and the 2nd LED (Powerline LED indicator) immediately lit up. I plugged in my small 10/100 switch to it and then my Roku & TV up to it and the 3rd LED (Ethernet indicator) lit up and the devices could not only talk to other devices on my LAN, but they had Internet access as well. I personally noticed NO DIFFERENCE in throughput speeds both within the LAN and the Internet.

The *ONLY* difference between the TP-Link set and the Netgear is the that the TP-Link doesn't tell you the "current speed" of that adapter's Powerline network. The Netgear has multicolored LEDs that indicate the speed of your Powerline network. While this normally won't matter to a lot of people, it will tell you whether you are having degraded performance within your home's electrical wiring. It also aids in troubleshooting as well. But it's not a show stopper...

Personally, I would recommend this product over the Netgear adapters I have.
1. The price is a LOT cheaper.
2. TP-Link has a TWO YEAR WARRANTY vs the Netgear's ONE YEAR WARRANTY. If you're really concerned on whether you're buying "a crap product", rest assured that this works just as good as the bigger name brands and you have an extra year of product care!

Highly recommended.

3good and bad
By rko
The good: the adapter works for what I needed. Using it to connect iPad mini to iCue teleprompter.
The bad: the ridiculoously high cost and the very short (2 inch) cable which means you are connecting a large VGA connector to a large tablet through a rediculously tiny and fragile lightning connector. When you are holding the iPad mini in your hand, you worry about breaking the lightning connection because of this. Why didn't the Apple designer think of that?

5Works wonderful
By Anomaly
I bought this adapter to use it with (a) my new iPad and (b) iPhone 5, both of which have a lightning connection. The primary purpose was to be able to display a Keynote Presentation from these devices on a large screen. However, in the process I tested other applications also. They included (1) YouTube, (2) Safari, (3) Videos and Photos. They all worked Well. You see them on the screen as it looks on the device. However, as soon you put the application in the full screen mode or landscape orientation, you get a better resolution picture that covers the entire screen. However, there is a difference between the iPad and iPhone projected displays here. The picture from iPhone fits the entire HD screen (16:9 aspect ratio), whereas the one from iPad fits more like a 4:3 aspect ratio picture on a HD screen, presumably driven by the native resolution on their respective screens. Though both the devices have a retina display, the picture from iPhone is crisper and better looking. I am not sure why. Maybe, because iPhone is newer. I do not know how the projected display from iPad mini will look like.
I am writing this review by connecting my iPhone to a 22 inch monitor with this adapter and using a Apple wireless bluetooth keyboard to type. It is hard to tell that I am working from a iPhone. Though I was going to use my iPad for my presentations, I will now use the iPhone becuase it displays better (not to mention looking cool).
The design of this connector is carefully thought through. The short (~3 inch) cord from the phone to the VGA connector is long enough to do things on the phone while holding it in the palm, without having to lift the entire wiring. The lightining connection in the adaptor helps power the phone when presentation is made. I plan to make presentations with my iPhone-5 and iPad using this adaptor, and do not forsee any problem doing it. I would have preferred the lightning to HDMI adaptor, but my video projector does not support HDMI. Overall, an excellent product.

Update: It will not work with Amazon Instant Videos. The app is not compatible with VGA or HDMI or Apple AirPlay.

5Great product, Great price, Great delivery!
By Yeo
I just bought a printer, and as usual, there was no USB cable accompanying it. I looked around for USB cables that were around 6 to 10 feet long because the location of my printer is some way from my laptop. This was one of the most affordable ones that I found and it worked without a hitch. Customers buying USB printer connection cables need to find out if the connection requires a male and female contact point (most of the time it is the case), which is exactly what this cable provides. As expected, when I started printing, scanning, and faxing from my computer, all went well.

I also want to make a small comment about the delivery. I expected this product arrive in the Amazon brown box with the cable in a plastic bag thrown within it. The delivery service was actually great from Amazon, and for better insulation and protection, the cable was shipped in a fitting Mediabridge box within the Amazon brown box. So, unlike some third-party sellers on Amazon, I think that its worth highlighting this to other fellow online shoppers about such positive collateral delivery benefits if purchasing from Mediabridge through Amazon. Hope you found this review useful.

5It's a cable
By XKarDoc
It's a cable and it does what it's supposed to do well and it's inexpensive. What more can I say.

5Ready To Go
By Mark Barrett
I purchased this cable to connect a second printer to my computer. The cable arrived in an easy to open plastic bag instead of the Fort Knox-like hard plastic shell packages. After undoing a couple of twist ties I was ready to go.

The set-up was 30 seconds with no way to make a mistake with which end for the printer and which one for the computer. I printed a page and the copy spit right out, so all was good.

4Love it, after fixing sleep issue
By M
StarTech... if you're reading this, try to fix this, please! I even did analysis and found a workaround for you. The least you can do is take my assessment into account and resolve the issue.

Minus 1 star for the fact DisplayLink/StarTech cannot introduce drivers/software to resolve the adapter sleep issue. If I had not figured a solution out on my own, this product would have received only 2-stars.

This device is perfect, after I created a batch script to fix the issue where the two external monitors would stay asleep after the computer has been awaken. Will explain how to create your own after the "Cons" section below.

Some people have mentioned this occurs to them once in a while. For me, the issue occurs most of the time after the computer wakes from sleep mode.

Pros:
1) When functional, delivers perfect digital video/audio (audio on HDMI port only) to two external 1920x1080 monitors over a USB 2.0 connection. The device is connected to a hub, which also connects the keyboard and mouse.
2) Can display dvd quality to the two external monitors simultaneously, without too much cpu usage.
3) I can't speak for gaming, but my primary purpose is to use my laptop as a development machine. For development and other office functions, the adapter is more than adequate.
4) Works with Mac Mini running Lion OS as well. No wake-on-sleep issues, like I encountered on Windows 7 and 8 computers.
5) Self powered. No additional power required.
6) Customer service. They weren't able to figure out the issue, but at least they tried.

Cons:
1) The two external monitors connected to the adapter typically do not function after the laptop (Windows 8) resumes from sleep mode. I would have to unplug and reattach the USB cable to re-enable the adapter. This is not a good solution, as I'm trying to minimize the wear to the USB port and it's a pain to physically unplug/reattach the USB cable.

Fix:
I contacted StarTech regarding my issue. They told me that I should disable "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" for the USB Hubs listed within the Device Manager section. Unfortunately, they ignored the fact I told them the issue occurs, REGARDLESS of whether I connect the adapter directly to the laptop OR via a USB hub. But, as I said before, they tried... btw... I did try their recommendation, even though I knew it would not work. It didn't work...

Then, I performed some analysis of the processes running on my computer and discovered there is a Windows service that controls functionality and communication between the computer and the adapter... the DisplayLinkService.

Through the Windows Services management console, I was able to re-enable the two external monitors by restarting the DisplayLinkService.

Therefore, I created a batch file (FixDisplay.bat) and added the following three lines to the batch file and saved it to my desktop for easy access:

sc stop DisplayLinkService
sleep 2
sc start DisplayLinkService

Let me explain each command, so you're aware of what's going on and to assure you this is not a malware script. First line stops the DisplayLinkService. Second line pauses the batch request to allow the stop batch request to complete. The final command line starts the DisplayLinkService.

Now, whenever the external monitors do not wake up after the computer wakes from sleep mode, I simply double-click the FixDisplay.bat file that I saved to my desktop. Just a note... depending on your UAC setting, you might have to enable the batch file to run under an elevated account (i.e. Administrator), as the commands in the batch file start/stop an installed Windows service.

The best solution would be if the drivers actually worked flawlessly to wake up the adapter properly. But short of DisplayLink and/or StarTech fixing this issue, my ad-hoc solution works. The solution definitely beats unplugging/reattaching the USB cable that is inaccessible.

4Works great, even on my Mac
By Kevin Mentch
Got this as a gift after looking all over for something that would work on a Mac, however when I first tried to set it up it did not work at all. Seems as though it is not Mac compatible, but after some tinkering I was able to get it to work on my Macbook Air running OS X 10.8.4. The key is the correct driver, do not install or use the one that comes with the adapter. I figured out who actually makes this thing and went to them and they have the correct driver. It is made by a company called Magic Control Technology Corp, and you can find the drivers needed here: [...] and the direct link to the zip download here: [...]

I hope this helps everyone with getting this working on their Mac as it took me about a 4 or so hours to figure all this out.

2Works but the software created problems.
By Jimmi
The device works great and my 2560x1600 monitor looks awesome.

Con: The software created some problems. As soon as I installed it, shockwave started crashing in google chrome. I have to reboot a few times a day due to this problem. It is starting to get very annoying.

Update #1: I spent some time with tech support and they said that the driver will cause conflicts with programs that use hardware acceleration. I turned off hardware acceleration in chrome and everything seems to be fixed. I changed my review from 3 stars to 4 stars. They should warn you about this before installing the software.

Update #2: Down to 2 stars. Disabling hardware acceleration helped a bit but there are still a lot of problems with the firmware. Here are some of the issues:

- If your software program won't let you disable hardware acceleration, you are screwed. For example, Evernote app was unusable.

- Before this software, my Samsung Series 9 fan would never kick on, after installing the software, it is almost always on.

- I have the top of the line Series 9 and still get some jittering in the video.

- I get random screen flashes every 20 minutes or so.

5Reasonably priced, gets full Amazon support behind it but makes sure this is what you need
By A. Dent
This is the most common USB cable these days for connecting 'something' to your computer but... beware of the 'Micro-B vs. Mini-B' interface confusion (read below) - if you are to use it with a phone or some other small and 'new' gadget, you may need a 'Micro-B' cable instead.

On this specific cable, everything is done right, including the price. It is USB 2.0 certified, meaning that it supports data transfer rates of up to 480Mbps and, if your device accepts a Mini-B plug, this is the cable to get. Maybe the 2-meter length (6+ ft.) is a little bit too much but it does not bother me a lot and there may come a time when a cable this long may come in handy.

While USB cables are clearly a commodity item these days, AmazonBasics does have a couple of advantages over the competition.

- EASY RETURN - I know because I had to return quite a few items for various reasons. Amazon makes it very easy and, if you are returning the item because it came defective or damaged Amazon pays for shipping.

- WARRANTY - these wires come with a 1-year warranty (talking about future-proofing). If a cable performs for one year, the odds that it would stop working after that are pretty close to zero. It's possible that the other vendors back their inexpensive cables too (I never checked) but I am highly confident that Amazon will be around to honor its warranty and I'm not so sure about vendors I know less.

- QUALITY ASSURANCE - I've never had any problems with 'cheap' USB or HDMI cables but it may be reassuring to have Amazon's name on a wire. My assumption is that Amazon did insist on some quality checks before they stamped their logo on the product.

- PRICE - This cable may appear more expensive than others but keep in mind that, unlike most, it qualifies for SuperSavers and Amazon Prime free shipping.

I am awarding this item 5 stars for price and quality - there's nothing to complain. However, I suggest that you look around before you place the order because you just might have one of these already as they tend to ship with many electronic gadgets these days.

Notes:

Anyone in the market for a USB cable should be very careful because there are at least 6 kinds of USB connectors. If you are buying a cable that connects 'something' to your computer or laptop, the computer end of the cable will always be a USB-A or 'Type A' connector. At the other end, you may have a USB-B/Type B - a nearly square shaped connector used mostly to deliver power to a device but this is rare. Most likely, you will have a Mini-B or a Micro-B. The difference between the 2 is that the Micro-B is half as thick while the width is the same - Mini-B is 3x7mm while Micro-B is 1.5x7mm.

If your device (phone, PDA, camera) is a 'new' one and it's using USB, chances are that they will need a Micro-B connector because the industry seems to be adopting the 'Micro' form factor as its standard. If the above sounds simple, you should keep in mind that some devices require Mini-AB or Micro-AB connectors, also known as USB OTG (OnTheGo) devices.

My advice: before ordering any cable, make sure that you clearly understand what type of cable you need.

Whenever in doubt, do some more research and keep in mind that the 'Micro-B' (very small) is the emerging standard and it's likely to be found on the newer and smaller gadgets - phones, cameras, etc. but, before it we had the 'Mini-B' (this specific cable) so the older devices will need the 'Mini'.

5Great USB cable!
By Michael Sena
The debut of Amazon Essentials could not have been better timed for me. I have three portable hard drives (the kind that are powered solely through usb cables) and all of my existing cables were missing. Somehow over the summer they got thrown away or misplaced, so getting to my files on these portable hard drives was impossible. Even more frustrating was the fact that on my MacBook Pro from 2007, there's only one powered hi-speed USB port. The other one isn't hi-speed. So I had a USB hub that I couldn't use either.

Anyway, along comes Amazon Essentials with these amazingly cheap USB cables. I was cautious about buying USB cables from any place else because I could have just gotten normal USB cables, not ones that I could use to power my external portable hard drives and my USB Hub.
As soon as I saw these from Amazon though, my problems were solved. They're 6 feet/1.8m long, which is long enough to suffice for almost any application. The cords have gold-plated connectors - I'm not sure if that makes them USB cords from the high heavens, but it sure does make them look a lot nicer than the other ones I have lying about. And these cords are dirt cheap - Less than $3.75 for 6 feet... try getting something like that at a normal electronics store.

To close off my review, I'd like to say how happy I am with my purchase, and that I'll definitely be buying my future USB cables through Amazon Essentials!

5Excellent cable at a great price!!!
By jdiebolt
I needed a cable for my new notebook Display port to be able to plug in my TV via HDMI. There are many other adapters out there for much more money, but this one gets the job done at a great value. It is great that it has a flexible cable in between instead of the one piece... that is just asking to be broken if you ask me on those other models. This one is flexible and connects securely in the port. Sound is also transmitted through this adapter. This is a plus because it is an optional part of the Display port standards, so not all adapters support this feature, but this one does. Great Value... would definately recommend.

5Excellent Adapter for Lenovo Thinkpad T420 Laptop - Brilliant sound and Picture Quality
By Shikha
Hi, Got the cable/adapter on the day it was promised to recieve. Thanks for Amazon for their continuous efforts in making things better for their customers and meeting their promises.

Now back to review, This cable i bought for my Lenovo Thinkpad T420 laptop and it worked excellent. Picture quality was way better and sound was exceptionally good. Worked by just plug and play method. No drivers required at all.
I also observed that quality is better than the direct HDMI cable which i used in my another Lenovo Y550 laptop with NVIDA graphics card. Where as Thinkpad was with corei5 processor supported graphics chipset and still the quality and sound was better in Thinkpad. Go for it and grab yours before it get sold out. Reasonable price as compared to other listings, build quality is strong. There's also the button on display port which you need to press to pull out the adapter. I liked this button as this avoids loose connections causing faults.

Highly recommended for Thinkpad Users as it is tried and tested in mt own T420 model.

-Thanks

5It works great behind my desktop tower under my desk
By Marcus Wickes
I purchased this product with hesitation based on the many poor reviews of similar products that stated the clip was too tight/too loose/broke off/etc. My video card has an HDMI port and a displayport. I already had a monitor using the HDMI and my monitors don't have a displayport so I needed this little adapter. I haven't had any issues with this product so far. I've had it in the back of my desktop tower under my desk for a month now and it has been performing perfectly.

UPDATE: 11/30/2012

Still working without any issues. I've had to move my computer a few times since purchasing but I haven't had any issues.

12/18/2012

Another move and still no issues. It feels solid so I really can't understand how people had a bad experience. They must have been yanking on the cord or something because it works fine for me.

If this reviews was helpful in your decision to buy or not, please let me know! That's how I know where to improve in my reviews.
