I thought I'd try these since them come in a set of two and I'm glad I purchased. They both work perfect, fit in phone like they should and charge at a normal pace. Highly recommend!!

Your iPhone will give you a message that it's not a supported accessory, but it will charge your phone and the price is cheaper than I've seen in retail stores.

5These are great!
By Malcolm Johnson
I like these ear buds. They offer great sound with deep bass and clear highs. The mic feature works great with the iphone 5. The best feature is the flat cord. It's flat not round. This keeps the cord from getting kinked. They also shipped fast. A must buy.

3Not great, not bad...they "aiiiiite"
By Michael Lee
Just to provide a simple background of who I am and what I have experience with to help you get a clearer picture of who is reviewing this product: I've purchased quite a few headphones/earbuds during my existence on this planet; from Sony to Sennheiser to Souls, from over the head cans to in ear buds. I have a home studio where I have a pair of ATHM-50's and Sennheiser HD 203's for recording and have a pair of Soul SL150's, SMS Street by 50's, Soul SL49's, and Sony XB500's for casual listening.

SOUND: 3/5
I purchased these Skullcandy's from Radioshack for $17.99 for the simple fact my earbuds I used with my work computer broke and just wanted a cheap replacement. After 2 weeks of burn in and listening, I will say that these earbuds are at most, average. The bass, although not overpowering, is very present and handled very well. The highs and the treble is where in my honest opinion, these earbuds fall short. These earbuds produce very HARSH highs to the point where I cannot listen to the song. Besides the harsh highs though, everything else is pretty good, especially for the price point.

DESIGN: 4/5
As far as I've tested, the microphone works very well and the headset is pretty clear when I'm on the phone. I really love the cord design (flat) and the earbuds themselves are plastic and are EXTREMELY light. I find a light weight ear bud to be very favorable, i.e. my Soul SL49 which I must say are the BEST sounding earbuds on the market right now, fall short in one area and that is the earbuds are so heavy, they tend to fall out quite frequently. I love the ability to pause and play music with the remote on the cord but it's missing a volume control. You can wear these for hours without any sort of nagging or pain-very comfortable.

To summarize, I always HATED the Skullcandy brand and vowed to NEVER purchase any Skullcandy products but because of the reduced price point at the time, I gave in. Initially when looking at this brand, you can't take it seriously because of the name and logo (at least I couldn't) but I must say, coming from a negatively biased point of view towards this audio brand, they are pretty average earbuds and I would recommend this specific product to people looking for a cheap pair of earbuds with a mic for handsfree control on your iPhone or Droid device. A better alternative if you are looking for AMAZING sound are the Soul SL49 which I got for $35. Just look around.

2Great sound, but don't buy it.
By jordanb1023
Okay so i m a 15 year old and music is a huge part of my life and i bought my first skull candy headphones a few years ago, and those ones ended up failing on one side. I have gone through 5 PAIRS of these headphones and every time they just stop working on one side. My dad had the same problem with his and he takes AMAZING care of his electronics. The sound is amazing and these are very comfortable but don't buy it without knowing you will have to buy one withing the next 4 months. the longest mine lasted was 3 months. So go for it if you think you can take PERFECT care of them and just know side will eventually fail.

4Panasonic 2-line phone
By LovesBBC
After using for just under 5 months, the phone still works well and as advertised. A good feature is that the portable handsets use standard rechargeable batteries instead of the costly battery packs required by most other phones. Contrary to some raters, the range is also excellent, and I frequently use the phone outside of the house. The only downside found so far is that some of the buttons are not only tiny but are difficult to push, especially for elderly users. With larger and easier to push buttons, I would have rated this phone with 5 stars.

4Solid Phone System With Great Range
By Charlie
We've owned the predecessor to this unit, Panasonic KX-TG6700 (2 line unit) for the last 5 years, and it still works well, but decided to upgrade the new version of the same system. We really were looking for better range, and after replacing the batteries a number of times (@ $30 a pop) it was time for a change. I'm always looking at the MTBF on any components and wanted to replace it because of that also.

Out of the box, the unit installation and setup was a breeze and the base unit was up and working in a few minutes. The cordless phones needed to be charged for 7 hours and were already registered with the base. We spent about 60 minutes getting used to all the new options, putting in all the phone book entries, setting the answering machine greeting messages and it was easy to do. The entire system performs very well and we are very happy with the purchase. We rarely had to look into the manual for help.

Here is what we liked:

The range of the cordless handsets is AMAZING, they were very clear at about 100-150 feet (outside) from the base unit. Also the "dead spots" in the house (3 stories) were totally gone. It had about twice the range of the old phones, big plus for us.

Battery life has improved considerably; we can use the phones all day, and still have lots of battery life left. The specs say you can talk for 12 hours on a single charge, I believe it.

The base unit has a large LCD screen for putting in your phone book, and other settings. Once you put in all your phone book entries, you can easily send them to all the cordless handsets.

Speaker phone works very well, clear with lots of volume.

The answering system will tell you what line the call came in on. I do not have to go through all the messages to see which ones are personal and business. I can just go to Line 2 messages, and get the business calls, and my wife can go to Line 1 messages to get all the personal messages. Like It.

The cordless handsets have 6 icons that are displayed when you press the Menu button. This helps in navigating through all the options.

What we did not like:

On the cordless handsets, the Talk and Off buttons are very small, much smaller than the number buttons. For buttons you use on every call, they should be bigger.

On the cordless handsets, the Talk and Off buttons should be backlit, when you are in a dark environment, you cannot find the button to hang up the phone or start a call.

When you create Groups (Friends, Family, Work...) for your phone book entries on the base unit they do not get sent to the cordless handsets. So when you take the time to organize all your contacts into Groups and send them to the cordless handsets, they all end up in the generic Group 1. Then you have to create new groups and move them around again, what a pain.

The ring tones you can select on the base unit are not the same as the cordless handsets, this is crazy. When a call is coming in, the base unit has one ring tone, and if the cordless handsets are near the base unit, they have a different ring tone and you have all of them ringing at a different tone simultaneously. It's very annoying.

When setting options on the base unit, there are screens you navigate to that you cannot get out of (no Back Button). You end up hitting Stop button on the phone itself to get out of that display. There should always be a Back Button.

There is an icon on both systems for "Help", when you click on it, it says to go to panasonic.com for support. Don't waste my screen space.

The cordless handsets are a little smaller than the previous ones and the plastic case is very smooth and harder to hang on to. I've dropped the old ones a number of times (still work), I hope these are as durable.

3Mediocre at best
By Craig
I find this system to be mediocre at best. I had an older Panasonic semi-pro analog system (KX-TG4000B 4-line) that I wanted to replace to get the DECT 6.0 digital system, because we get interference on the old analog system. This system does indeed eliminate that interference, however in many ways it is inferior to that old system. Here are some of the primary downsides to this system (not in any particular order):

(1) If you want to turn off one of the lines so that it doesn't ring (like at night), you have to do it individually from every handset. There's no blanket turn-off from the base unit. (There is a "night" feature that lets you do an automatic scheduled turn off at a set time, but that's no good unless you go to bed and wake up at the exact same time every day.)

(2) The sound quality is free from interference, but the volume is low and the audio frequency range is not very good, on both the handsets and the base unit. Callers on the other side have complained that our volume is a little low.

(3) It has different ring tones you can select, which is great, but the set of ring tones is different for the handsets than from the base unit. So you can't have a consistent set of ring tones for each line between the base and the handsets.

(4) The speakerphone on the base unit is of poor quality. It is not loud enough. Also, when you mute it still cuts out when the other side goes somewhat quiet. If your side is muted, it should never cut off the other side. Because of these two problems, it can be difficult to hear the other side if they are not particularly loud.

(5) The volume settings are not granular enough. There are only 5 volume settings, and usually setting 2 is too low but setting 3 is too loud and distorts.

(6) No battery backup on the base unit. Seems like it wouldn't be much to include a few batteries in the base unit. I solved this by connecting it to a UPS.

(7) The quality (audio frequency response) of the recorded outgoing message is not very good.

It is not bad enough that I would return it, it is useable. But it is disappointing, especially compared to the old semi-pro system we used to have.

3Get the M50
By Daniel Will-Harris
I had a Plantronics M50 headset that I called "the best bluetooth headset in the world." It could do many things, but fall into a puddle and continue to work was not one of them (and it never claimed to be waterproof--oh wait, after two days of drying out, it works again!).

Since I use a headset for everything (all calls, GPS, listening to music), I needed one right away so I went to BestBuy and bought one of these. It's small, light, and I was surprised that the earpiece actually fit and stayed in my ear--oh, it just fell out while I was talking, so I guess I need the ear loop for safety, can't have it falling out while I'm driving--that's dangerous).

LIKE:

Pairing was brilliant--it literally talks you through the process for Android or iPhone.

As with the M50, it talks to you when you turn it on, change the volume, lose or regain the connection. It's great to have these plain-English status prompts.

It tells you the approximate talk time in hours, which is convenient (but not entirely necessary, as the battery meter shows up automatically on smart phones--and perhaps not all that accurate--first it said I had four hours talk time, I talked for 15 minutes, then it said I had three).

When the phone rings, the headset prompts you to say "answer" or "ignore" and that actually works.

Holding down the volume button for two seconds mutes the mic, that's handy.

Vocalyst: I used this Dial2Do service in the past when I didn't have a smartphone and found it very useful--it will read your email to you, let you record reminders (it used to transcribe them, now that's an extra-cost option), read news from various sources such as the New York Times. The service normally costs $25 a year, and a free year is included with this headset.

DISLIKES:
My biggest complaint is that despite this having two mics, the resulting sound is tinny--as if it's cutting out. Perhaps this is part of the noise reduction, but when used in a quiet room, it just makes you sound more robotic than you probably are. I compared the sound from my M50 and this M165 back to back in voicemail I left myself, and the M5 is clearly more solid, richer sounding--and louder.

The same is true for listening volume--which was louder on the M50 (perhaps because it fits more snugly into the ear and makes a tighter connection)

The button, which looks like an iPhone home button, is fine--but on the M50, the entire face was the button, and that was easier to press. And pressing The M165's button pushes it into your ear, which is uncomfortable.

It is not as comfortable in the ear as the M50. That fit so well that I'd forget it was there. With this I keep feeling like something's stuck in my ear.

The MyHeadset app is not very useful. It lets you do a sound check and record, and it has pairing instructions but it doesn't have all instructions and I quickly deleted it. Just the documentation in PDF format for iBooks would be more useful.

Now, I'm a fan of Plantronics products--so I don't understand how the Plantronics M50 can be the best bluetooth headset on the planet, and the M165, which theoretically should be 110 "better" is not as good.

I'm so glad my M50 is working again--and I may buy another as a backup just in case, because it truly is the best.

5Another great Plantronics headset
By atmj
I've had the predecessor to this headset the M155 Marque, and several other plantronics headsets. I never intended to replace those as, I was happy with them, but the Vine program has given me the opportunity to upgrade, so well, I just had to see what's new. For the purposes of comparison my phone is an over 6 month old HTC Rezound smart phone.

In summary the short version:
Pros:
+ Headset fits great and doesn't fall out of my ear
+ Headset is loud enough
+ Long battery life and telling me what is left each time I turn it on is nice
+ Headset picks up the phone well. At least to 10 feet (in the same room), reception was good
+ Voice prompts for being unconnected or connected are great..
+ Seamless pairing

Cons:
- Saying Answer to pick up has not worked well. Predecessor was great.
- Pairing instructions were wrong
- Vocalyst is pointless on a smart phone

The long version follows:

GREAT FIT:
This headset fits well and works well. What is unique about this headset over another is the interesting in ear retention feature. The predecessor I owned had something similar and I loved it. It is one of the few that works well with glasses and doesn't get goofed up by long hair. Prior headsets either competed with my glasses for behind the ear space, or the retention arm would be caught by my hair; flipping out of my ear with a simple movement of my hair.

LOUD ENOUGH OR CUTS NOISE ENOUGH:
I find the headset loud enough to use in the car and also to walk over a 2 story non-covered bridge (over 4 lanes of rush hour traffic) that I walk over every day. I don't know if it is the noise cancellation or the good fit that makes this possible. Either way it works.

PICKING UP WHEN I SAY ANSWER HAS NOT WORKED:
The only difficulty I have had, is with the headset picking up when I say "answer" in the car. I'm not sure why I was not understood. I believe this happened a few times. The prior headset was great at this. I will try this some more before I consider this an issue. Instead I had to push the headset button which was no hardship.

LONG BATTERY LIFE AND INFO ON BATTERY DURATION IS GREAT:
Like it's predecessor, this battery lasts a long time. Even longer that the prior headset per the literature. Mine is always in my purse and when I turn it on, it tells me what time is left. That is a great feature, as then I have a good idea when to charge it. I like to run stuff out, before I charge as usually this improves battery life, so this information is important.

GREAT RECEPTION OF PHONE TO HEADSET
Each time I have used the headset, either I had the phone on my belt buckle, or in my car's beverage receptacle. Anywhere from 2 feet to 3 feet from the head set. There was no issue. In fact at home, I have left the phone on a dresser and walked over 10 feet away with only a slight degradation of quality. That's what clued me in to the fact, I had left the phone somewhere.

VOICE INFO IS GREAT
Like many people I don't leave my bluetooth on. I like that this headset tells me that it does not have a phone connected, if there is none detected. It reminds me to turn on my blue tooth. Also, this headset tells me when it is connected and it can be paired to more than one device. This can come in handy.

PAIRING WAS SEAMLESS
Pairing this phone as well as it's predecessor went well. Unfortunately in both cases, the instructions of where to find the settings to pair were wrong. I know Android can be like that and vary with devices and my HTC Rezound might not be in the sets they tested their instructions with. However many smart phone users know how to do this and I was not too concerned.

VOCALYST IS NOT SOMETHING I WOULD USE:
For Vocalyst, I had tried that with the prior headset (my view is posted on Amazon) and it is a means of calling into a service to get access to your email, facebook etc. Essentially this service reads the content to you. As this burns minutes in my phone's call plan, it has no appeal to me. I tried it and that was enough for me. Since I have a smart phone, this is easy enough to check on this on the fly anyway. Maybe if I didn't have a smart phone or I needed constant access to my email, this would have more appeal.

MULTI-TASKING DEVICE:
Someone asked in a comment below, if this device could be simultaneously connected to two devices. The answer is Yes. I paired this headset to my iPad and connected it, then connected it to my cell phone. While listening to music on my iPad through the headset, I called my cellphone, which interrupted the music to notify me of the call...This was cool.

CAN REMAINED CONNECTED WHEN PLUGGED IN
Another person asked if this headset could remain connected while being plugged in. I checked this out and it could. I had the headset connected to the phone and then plugged it into the charger, where it remained actively connected. This is a mixed blessing because if you forget the headset is connected and your phone rings and you answer it without the headset in, you might be confused as to why you hear nothing. Once you figure out what is happening, I hope you have a means of switching to speaker (my smartphone does). I once left my headset in my purse connected and wondered why I kept getting these soundless calls...

This series of headsets are great.

5Great Headset
By Amazon Customer
Plantronics M165 Bluetooth Headset / B0093TSSGW

I have owned the Plantronics M155 Bluetooth Headset for over a year now, and love it so much that I bought this M165 version to switch between while the other is charging.

These headsets are light-weight and very comfortable for me. (Whether they will work with your ears is largely a function of the individual, but for me these are the most comfortable headsets I've owned, and I've never had them fall out or slip from my ear.) The power switch is on the side -- you simply slide the switch to turn the power off and on, and a recorded voice informs you how much "talk time" is left on the battery, which is a nice feature, as well as whether or not your phone is connected. The switch also has red and green coloring, so it's easy to tell at a glance whether the headset is on or off.

Having setup with a new phone just the other day, I can also note how delighted I am with the voice-guided pairing instructions -- I'm confident that even non-techies could set this headset up without any problems.

I've never bothered to use the voice-answer option, but I do like the single button that can be pressed to answer. I'e used several headsets in the past, and these Plantronics M155/M165 are the most crisp and clear that I've used; my mother (who has hearing problems) almost never has trouble hearing me on this, outside of the usual limitations like outdoor wind or a bad connection. Mostly I use these headsets to listen to audiobooks, though, and I love the extended battery life on these -- the M155 has 4 hours of non-stop listening time (and idles well), and the M165 has 7 hours. If the big talk button would also work as a Pause/Play button with my Audible app (it doesn't), then I'd be in heaven but I suppose we can't have everything.

The only downside to these headsets is perhaps that the range is not so hot. The product description seems to be claiming 33 feet (!); I'd peg it as closer to 8-12 feet. I have noticed that when I'm walking into work, I have to hold the phone in my hand or purse if I don't want my audiobook to cut out -- if I place it in my pants pocket, the connection seems to skip a little, but if my phone is in my relatively steadier hand or purse then the connection is rock solid.

I've loaded up a picture of the M155 and the M165 on the product images: the M155 is very slightly thinner and lighter than the M165, but my ear can't tell the difference. I'm thrilled with both models and highly recommend them.

3PNY 64GB USB Flash Drive
By Curious observer.....
Well I've been a loyal PNY product user for over 10 years, and I can honestly say, that their products have been reliable, functional, and have lasted the test of time. So as both of my 32GB flash drives approached maximum capacity, I found myself sifting through the web, in search of two 64GB replacements, at a reasonable price.

The price of memory is such a fickle thing theses days.... Much like buying a new car, what costs a fortune today, is worth just pennies tomorrow. Not wanting to pay a king's ransom, I managed to locate a distributer that was selling PNY 64GB Attaché USB Flash Drives for approximately $74 each. I bought two flash drives, from the merchant, and anxiously awaited their arrival.

When they showed up at my door, I found that PNY had made a few changes to their Attaché USB Flash Drive product line, since my last purchase.

1. The 64GB Flash Drives no longer have a LED activity indicator of any sort on the drive. I'm not quite sure how they expect anyone to know when their flash drive is being accessed. I, like many other users have come to expect, utilize, and some even require an activity light of some sort on their external devices. This omission was a major disappointment.

2. Over the years, I've found it necessary to reformat external storage devices, such as flash drives, and start fresh. This worked fine with both of my PNY 32GB Flash Drives, going all the way back to my first 256MB Flash Drive. Well this functionality has got an added rub with the 64GB Flash Drive. Apparently, the 64GB Flash Drive utilizes the exFAT system, which requires a patch/driver from Microsoft, before your Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 machine can `handle' the drive properly. Sort of pain, and no mention of this added requirement on the documentation or packaging the flash drive came in.

3. Lastly is the cheaper case & USB dust sleeve. The case is noticeably cheaper in heft. Seems like PNY elected to go with a cheaper grade of plastic, while at the same time updated their design to incorporate a capless dust sleeve. I say sleeve, since it clearly only protects the sides of the USB plug, but not the connections on the end - the most important part of the drive! They undoubtedly chose this course, like many other manufacturers, to eliminate the problem of lost flash drive caps. A capless system would be fine, if the connections of the USB Plug were afforded some degree of protection.

While it may sound like I've blasted the PNY 64GB Flash Drive, it still has its place. However, the short comings of the new design - no LED activity indicator, cheaper case, and only partial protection for the USB Plug do affect its versatility & reliability; especially if it's used as a daily worker.

A decent Case Logic case, would be a good & highly recommended compliment, to the transport & integrity of this flash drive. At the very least, it would give the USB Plug some much needed protection, while prolonging the life of the flash drive.

5Excellent
By Greg J. Lovern
I picked this up at Fry's after my Lexar JumpDrive TwistTurn's hinges broke. Previously, I had used a couple generations of SanDisk Cruzers until they recently changed to a dumb design and became very slow.

What I've always wanted in a USB flashdrive is a good, strong keyring attachment and a non-removable cap. This PNY Attache has both.

It's also more compact than the Lexar JumpDrive TwistTurn and the SanDisk Cruzer.

It doesn't have a LED to light up when it's connected, but that's fine with me.

The sliding cap can be a bit stubborn; avoid it if you have weak hands or arthritis.

One reviewer here noted that the cap doesn't protect it from dust etc. falling into the plug. True enough, but that's not the point. The point is to prevent the end of the plug from being BENT. And it's good for that. The SanDisk Cruzer is the same way, and I never had any trouble with any pocket dust that got into the plug. If any does get in you can just blow it out.

UPDATE:

I've noticed that if the computer goes to sleep and then wakes up, I have to remove and reinsert it; otherwise the computer just sits there and seems to wait for it to respond. I didn't have that problem with the SanDisk Cruzer or the Lexar JumpDrive TwistTurn. It's annoying but I can live with it.

1Bloody Useless
By Pitchy
Had the drive for about a week and now it's useless. The drive has went into a "write protect" mode and magically added about 20gb of phantom data that does not exist. I have 6 files on there and the largest one is 2.6gb. So there is no way I have 47gb in use, even though when I check the properties and I only have 9.1gb used. The reviews here don't talk about it, but if you google PNY WRITE PROTECT you will find tons and tons of people with the same issue. Best Buy reviews all talk about it.

I have two 32gb PNY drives that work great, but this one sucks. I have tried everything I can think of to correct this problem. I will most likely have to return it to either Amazon or PNY. Either way, this WRITE PROTECT problem seems very wide spread so I would look at other drives. Probably a reason why this 64gb drive is cheaper than most 32gb drives.

5Works with PS4 upgrading is easy and fast - Less than 30 minutes.
By Chuck Bittner
If you're someone like me and wants to upgrade their PlayStation 4 from its 500GB hard drive to something more spacious this drive is a good choice. With PlayStation 4 games weighing in at near 30GB+ for a lot of games and hard drive the size will eventually be a must upgrade. And if you're interested in upgrading your PlayStation hard drive it's a pretty straightforward process.

At the time of this review this 7200rpm drive was $10 cheaper: This is 7200rpm 1TB drive: HGST Travelstar 2.5-Inch 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6GB/s 32MB Cache Internal Hard Drive

UPGRADING YOUR PS4 TAKE LESS THAN 30 minutes - You need to download the firmware from Sony*. If you need better instructions just google "PS4 hard drive replacement"
Step 1: remove the gloss section of your PS4. It's the part above the Blu-Ray slot.
Step 2: Remove the 500gb drive (requires 1 screw to be removed) Unscrew the 4 screws holding the drive in the cage.
Step 3: Put the PS4 back together.
Step 4: Insert your usb flash drive into the PS4 usb slot.
Step 5: Press and hold the power button on the PS4 for 8-10 seconds.
Step 6: Choose the bottom selection (I believe it's number 10) Reinstall firmware.
Step 7: That's it you are done only about 30 minutes and done.

*One thing you need if you're replacing a hard drive on the PlayStation is the latest firmware update from Sony's website and you need a 1 GB plus thumb drive formatted in fat32. And you just set up your thumb drive with a folder called PS4 an inside that folder another one called UPDATE. Then inside the update folder you place the firmware.

If you have a questions just ask them and I'll try to help.

I'd get this external case for your old 500gb drive: Vantec NexStar TX 2.5-Inch SATA to USB 2.0 External Hard Drive Enclosure ATM it' only $7.00. Takes only 3 minutes to install.

Here is another drive to consider for your PS4:
This is a 1.5TB hard drive: HGST Travelstar 5K1500 1.5TB 2.5-Inch Mobile 5400 RPM 9.5mm Internal Bare Hard Disk Drive 0J28001

Thanks reading please like if this was useful so others can see it.

PS personally I went with a 1TB 72000rpm drive in my PS4 as I wanted faster load times for my ADD personality.

5HGST 7K1000 1TB 2.5 9MM Laptop Hard Drive.
By ToeKnee
In and out in less than 2 minutes. What a difference as second drive on HP DV7 I7!

Replaced 5400 WD Scopro Blue and HGST 7K1000 1TB is now the second drive to Intel SSD 180GB drive with 6 TB of Hitachi Touro USB 3.0 Externals.... 16GB RAM.

Using KeepAliveHD to stop all of the hard drives and partition from going to sleep all of the time. Nothing else worked as everytime an update came it would revert to sleepy sleep.

HGST are now the premiere drives with dual platters, 7200 rpms. MAKE SURE you are getting the 7K1000 as the other HGST 2.5 inch 1TB drive is single platter and no where near as fast and they are dumping them at $10 less.... still a good drive but nothing like the 7K1000.

3Click Click Click
By Ben Holt
Attracted by the price, speed and capacity, I bought this hard drive (model # 0S03563) to replace the 500gb 5400rpm Seagate drive that came with my mid-2009 13" MacBook Pro. It fits perfectly, and installing a fresh copy of Mountain Lion was a breeze. My laptop boots up and launches applications faster than before. While the hard drive is seeking and working hard reading and writing, it's nearly silent. However, when the hard drive is idle, it emits a very annoying click once every 3-10 seconds that sounds like metal slapping against metal. The stock hard drive did not do this. This may not bother some people, but for me it's so irritating and frustrating that I have a hard time concentrating on what I'm doing. I have done some online research and found that many other owners of Travelstars experience this same problem. If I had known this before buying, I would have chosen a different brand.

Update January 17th 2014:

I found a small, free program called "hdpam" that made my hard drive stop clicking. I don't know who deserves more blame; Apple's Mac OS for asking the hard drive to park its heads every few seconds or Hitachi for building the hard drive in such a way that it makes a loud noise when it parks its heads.

I highly recommend this product for family use. For $399 you are getting a 21" Android tablet. I'm not a tech expert so I'm not going to detail the specs, but my whole family now flocks to this device. It's an amazing product. I wish HP can market this more to the mainstream crowd.

5Fabulous Deal
By Mr.Nice
Simply Fabulous. I have been dreaming of an Android Desktop and here it is. For $399 we get a 21.5 1080p Monitor, Touch Screen, Camera, Keyboard (love the shortcut keys) and a Mouse - just unbelievable.

As an Android programmer, I am thrilled to use this as a testing system as well.

Thank you HP, Google & Amazon - a viable alternative to the Virus Machine (aka Windows).

>> Update to the review after having used it for a week or so:
The computer almost behaves like a TV - you can on/off and the Android comes up immediately. They also have a shortcut power off/on on the Keyboard.

The keyboard has a nice appearance but wish it was much softer. A bluetooth keyboard might have been nicer though it comes with extra long wires.

One of the drawbacks are with App that only works in portrait mode - the App appears in the horizontal direction and cannot be used. Hopefully, all the Apps will have the Landscape mode - nevertheless most popular apps are OK.

5An excellent computer troubleshooting tool to check hardware and backup data quickly!
By jjceo
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R3ESNLGUA27DL0 I build a lot of computers and servers and fix a lot of systems for my family and friends. Having good computer trouble shooting tools is a real benefit when trying to solve problems. If you have to back up somebody's boot drive in an effort to save their operating system this kit is always a good thing to have. It is also nice to be able to back up their files. This USB 2.0 converter allows you to attach SATA and IDE storage devices to your computer in order to test their hardware or to try to save their files.

You can attach a 2.5 inch hard disk drive, a 2.5 inch SSD drive, a SATA or IDE 3.5 inch HDD or a 5.25 DVD or CD player/burner quickly and easily to your computer for testing. One of the most common problems with computers is that the hard disk drives fail or DVD or CD drives fail. With this very nice testing tool you can quickly help to solve the problem and troubleshoot the issue.

Installing a drive is fast and easy and only takes seconds to do. In my testing I installed a SSD drive rated at 3 GB/second and I connected the unit to a USB 3.0 port. I ran speed tests and I have included them in my video.

Inside of the box you will find:
* An AC power supply and the cable is 30 inches long
* A 48 inch long AC power cord.
* There is an USB 2.0 to IDE/SATA converter. It will connect to a 1.8 to 2.5 inch IDE drive or a 3.5 to a 5.25 IDE connector or a SATA connector. The USB cable is 27 inches long.
* An instruction manual
* A power converter cable to power a SATA HDD and the cable is 4 inches long.
* A SATA to SATA extender cable and the cable is 4 inches long.
* A two pin power converter cable 8 inches long.

The kit contains a very nice power supply that will power different styles of drives. It outputs 12 VDC and 5 VDC at 2 Amps for each voltage. That is important because some drives like a DVD burner need both voltages and 1.5 amps for each voltage to operate. Even a 2.5 inch laptop HDD can draw 600 mA. It is beyond the capability of a USB 2.0 port to provide more than 500 mA DC so this power supply is a wonderful and needed addition to this kit. The power supply can operate on 110 to 240 VAC and 50/60 Hz.

The converter has a USB 2.0 output port that is downward compatible to USB 1.1. The top of the unit has 3 LEDs. They are for the USB activity, the SATA drive activity and the IDE port activity. Remember that drives are sensitive to electrostatic discharge and you must make sure that you discharge yourself before you handle any drive. Many times I even lay the drive onto a static discharge bag to protect it while it is powered and I am testing it.

I connected a SATA SSD drive and did some speed tests to check out the unit's performance. In my read and write tests I had a maximum write speed of 46.281 MB/Sec and a maximum read speed of 44.369 MB/Sec. Overall this is a good external drive testing tool. You can see the test graph in my video review. I rate this product as a 5 star item and I recommend it as a must have for computer geeks and people who repair computers.

I was supplied a sample for test and evaluation and I promised a fair and honest review.

5A very handy and useful device
By J. Chambers
A couple of years ago, my wife's desktop PC failed. Most of the data was backed up, but there were a few files that I needed to get from one of the 250GB hard drives. I was sure that both internal hard disks had not failed, so I pulled them and inserted them into a 3.5" SATA HDD USB docking station (aka a "toaster") that I bought for about $40. I quickly learned that the disk drives were okay, that something else had caused the crash. The PC was old, so we replaced it, but I kept the two drives in case I ever needed one. I used one of those drives to check out the Sabrent hard drive converter.

First of all, the slim little user's guide that comes with the kit is worthless. There are no illustrations, and the instructions are vague at best. Fortunately, there's a card directing you to Sabrent's website, where there are PDF downloads for their products. There are a lot of products listed, but scroll down or search for product #DSC5 - that's the one you want. The PDF file includes color illustrations and clear instructions, and I was able to get everything connected in a couple of minutes. With the 3.5" hard drive, I needed the AC power supply in the kit. If you use the power supply, be sure to connect it first before connecting the USB cable to the computer. With everything connected, I was able to see the drive and could have copied the files if I needed to.

This is a handy little device, and a very useful one. It's also much less expensive than a hard drive toaster, and with the toasters, you have to buy a separate one for SATA and IDE drives. The Sabrent kit works for either type of drive.

A product sample was provided by the manufacturer for review purposes.

5Works like a dream
By JimHCNMT
Plug-n-Play(well...work, really). Works as advertised. Didn't even realize such a thing existed until reading one of those CNET or How-to-Geek articles (can't remember which). But, I had a stack of old hard drives and they had a solution. Never wanted to hastle with powering down my desktop, opening the case, installing the hard drive, powering back up, etc., etc., just to see what was on an old hard drive. This makes it RIDICULOUSLY easy: plug the AC-DC adapter in to your wall socket, plug the IDE connector in to your hard drive (make sure HD control is set to "Master"), the USB connector into your computer, the power cable into the hard drive and you're done! Open Explorer on your computer and scroll down to where your hard drive is recognized as just another readable device (like a USB thumbdrive, etc.) Couldn't be easier .

4Tool Box could be better. Update 11/05/2013: Still reliable after 1 year.
By MoJo In New Orleans
Thank you Amazon for the very quick delivery.

I have been noticing that a lot of SSD vendors ship out their products in nothing more than a hard plastic shell, not Kingston. The Hyper 3k comes packaged with a nice box. The SSD and the 3.5" adapter and screws are held snugly in place by dense foam. As this is a bare drive, there are no software or sata cable provided. However, sata cables are cheap and software to clone your old drive to your new SSD can be downloaded for free from various software companies.

I'm sure you all are aware that SSDs are fast, really fast when compared to HDD. This Hyper 3k is no exception. To maximize the speed of this SSD make sure you run it in AHCI mode and not IDE mode. It is very comparable to my girlfriend's Samsung 830 speedwise. It is also built, in my opinion, a little sturdier than the Samsung. It seems a little heavier and the header where you plug in the power and sata is much, much better than the Samsung. With the Samsung when you try to disconnect the sata cable it almost feel as if the whole header will come off. The Samsung, however, has a much better toolbox called Samsung SSD Magician. The Samsung SSD Magician has features to optimize the OS, to do firmware update, to run benchmark, performance optimization, and secure erase. The Kingston SSD Toolbox, which must downloaded from Kingston website, only gives you Drive and Details. Details is useless, and Drive will tell you the model of your SSD and the firmware that came with your SSD. Kingston, you guys really need to give us a better toolbox. Visually, the toolbox looks like it was designed back in the 90's.

Firmware can not be updated via the Toolbox, you have to go to Kingston website and download it from there. Quite cumbersome. Also in order to update the firmware, you HAVE to be in AHCI mode. If you are in IDE mode, don't panic, there are quite a few tutorials on the web on how to change from IDE to AHCI by in the registry and reboot into bios to enable AHCI.

Good news for Windows 7 users, your SSD will be automatically be 4K aligned. What does that mean? It means you can clone or migrate your OS to the new SSD and not having to worried about doing the 4K alignment yourself.

For cloning my HDD to my Hyper 3k I used to programs, AOMEI partition Assistant 5.1 and Macrium Reflect 5. Both are free programs.
1. Install your SSD in the computer case but don't plug it in to the motherboard yet.

2. Uninstall any programs that you no longer used in your HDD, are haven't used in a long while, which means you are no longer using it:)

3. Defrag your HDD. What you are doing is trying to remove as much data as possible because the content that is left has to fit into
your new SSD.

4. Once it is smaller, launch AOMEI and shrink your drive. For example, you wean down the content of your 1TB drive to 150GB of data. Macrium Reflect will not be able to clone your drive because it still sees 1TB and will give you an error message that your source drive is bigger than you destination drive. With AOMEI you can shrink the PARTITION of you drive to 150GB. There is a tutorial on AOMEI's website. *you will have to reboot after AOMEI shrinks your partition*

5. After the reboot, power down your computer.

6. Plug your SSD to the motherboard with the sata cable and connect the sata power cable from your power supply to the SSD.

7. Turn on your computer and go disk management and initialize the unknown drive (your SSD). Once initialized, Windows will recognize your SSD and assigned a drive letter to it.

8. Launch Macrium reflect and click on clone my drive. It will show your HDD and SSD. All you have to do is drag the partitions down to the SSD. Most people will only have 2 partitions on the HDD.

9. Sit back, relax, this could take 30 minutes or more depending on how much data you have. I only had to clone 73GB so it took only 17 minutes.

10. After it's done, you will need to reboot.

11. Google how to enable AHCI mode and follow the steps (not long and complicated at all).

12. One more reboot and you are done.

Enjoy your new drive:)

Update 11/05/13: After 1 year of usage, this SSD is still as fast as the 1st day I installed it. It has proven to be very reliable. The Kingston HyperX 3K withstood 2 abrupt power failure and a lot, and I mean a lot, of writing cycles as I am constantly moving my steam games back and forth from SSD to my HDD. Toolbox still shows that my SSD's health is still 100%.

The Holiday season is here and if you are looking purchase a SSD for yourself or as a gift for someone else, I recommend that you consider this SSD (if the price is right).

5Update your firmware!! (EDIT - this is no longer necessary, but firmware support has ended. See comments)
By Josh Hinnenkamp
My drive which shipped on October 15th, 2012 came with revision 501 (501ABBF0) firmware on it, which has been out-of-date since June. At this time, the latest revision is 503 (503ABBF0) which was released in August.

I had some difficulty updating the firmware to Rev 503. The Kingston firmware update utility (found at Kingston.com > Support > Drivers/Downloads > Solid-State Drives > HyperX SSD -- SH103S3 > Firmware Update) would not recognize the drive.

As it turns out, it was either a conflict with the Intel Rapid Storage Technology (RST) software I had installed, or the Intel AHCI driver that installs with the Intel RST software. Once I uninstalled Intel RST, rebooted, and the generic AHCI driver was automatically installed in its place by Windows 7, the Kingston firmware update utility recognized the drive and successfully updated to revision 503.

Once the update was completed, the Kingston firmware update utility will recognize the drive with or without the Intel RST software and Intel AHCI driver installed. There must be an incompatibility with revision 501.

The Kingston firmware update utility will tell you your firmware revision number. Make sure to check it out first thing after you get your drive!

3Good fast drive nice vs sale price w/ bracket but.....
By Stephen
Drive is a good cost performance pay off but...
sata and power connectors seems to be made of brittle plastic without any reinforcement of a surrounding housing. This makes it easy to tweak the connection a bit when installing in tighter cases for instance. After 3 unplugs entire plastic connector broke off inside power connector.

Lucky exposed copper prongs still still allowed me use what was left of the messed up connector, so I continue to use the drive.

If I was a complete noob I would probably just being flaming this drive. Admittedly I could have been a bit more careful had I known how delicate these connectors were. Never had this kind of issue with the untold amount drives I have swapped in my lifetime. I bought it on sale, so GREAT DEAL!, just be careful with those connectors. Maybe even apply some dielectric grease.

4Not so MINI, but a good surge product overall.
By R. Ocampo
I've been searching for a product that can extend the outlet on my bathroom for the electrical products that I use. I finally came across this Belkin mini surge protector and features:

- 3 AC power outlets
- 2 USB outlets ONLY for charging (not data transfer) at 5V / 500mA at each port
- Surge protection on all 5 outlets
- 918 Joules Energy Dissipation
- 125V / 15A / 1,875W Continuous Duty Electrical Rating
- 36,000A Maximum Spike Current
- Lifetime Warranty on product
- USD75,0000.00 connected equipment warranty
- 360 degree rotating plug lockable into 4 possible positions

Simple, elegant design in a smooth plastic casing of white and light grey colour. Once plugged, the green LED light will indicate if the power source is grounded.

The box comes with one USB to mini-USB cable to get you started in charging your USB devices as well.

DO NOT throw the prong cover that initially comes attached to the surge protector prong. As the manual states (for those who still care to read the User Manual these days), you can use this plastic prong cover to help further balance the device against any surface. You do this by inserting the plastic prong cover on the bottom of the surge device via a small notch. Also, the plastic cover is handy to use when traveling. Before dumping the surge protector along with your other devices, cover the prongs to prevent it from scratching other objects.

The prongs can be rotated 360 degrees loosely. However, there are 4 positions that enable you to lock it so it doesn't flail along clumsily in any direction. You do this by pressing into the rear a "release button". It's not a raised button, but a flat plastic portion that you have to press hard in order to release the lock. It's quite difficult (at least with the model I received) at first and feels like I'm going to break the plastic button. But I guess if this is normal then it can be construed as a safety measure so it doesn't easily rotate with a simple touch.

IMPROVEMENTS:

The term "mini" is subjective. It isn't really that compact as I would assume from seeing the photo. It is small, yes. However, as a surge protector that can take 3 AC and 2 USB outlets, I will give Belkin the benefit of naming it a mini device.

I would STRONGLY prefer the re-design of the spacing on the AC outlets by allowing larger plugs connected side-by-side. As it is right now, only normal AC plugs and not block-style plugs are allowed without loosing all three outlets. So my proposal is to delete the middle AC outlet and move it to the end-cap of the device (opposite to the 2 USB outlets). As of now, there is nothing there so rather than cramp the 3 AC plugs, then move the third at the end and thus allowing for block-style plugs to be used and still retaining the 3 AC functionality.

OVERALL:

I would not hesitate to recommend the purchase of this surge protection for compact spaces as well as travel purposes especially with the lifetime warranty and amount of protection is offers.

Take note of the selling price Amazon and the others are selling this at. It's ridiculous to see the selling price of this exact device can range anywhere from USD10 to USD30.

Lastly, BE AWARE of the SPECS so you know if the USB device you are plugging is capable of being charged.

4Nice wall mounted surge protection with a slight vampire load
By Chris Jaronsky
I was shopping for surge suppressors and came across this Belkin wall mounted unit. I like wall mounted units better because I hate having power strips laying on the floor. This unit has the added bonus of having two USB charging ports on it.

Pros,
- 2 USB charging ports for phones, IPODs, etc.
- wall mounted.
- $25,000 insurance protection.

Cons,
- The USB chargers always draw a small bit of electricity even when not being used. I plugged this surge protector into my Kill A Watt Electricity Usage Monitor and found it drew a small current.
- The $25,000 insurance policy has some small print. Every cable going into your protected device needs to be run through an approved Belkin device. So if you plug in a TV, the coax connector has to be plugged into a Belkin device. Protecting a PC? You need to be using wireless, or you need to have your network cable going through an approved Belkin device. Not a major problem, just make sure you are actually covered by the insurance policy BEFORE a disaster hits.
- The outlets in my house are the square, flat type that do not have a center screw hole to mount this unit. I had to change the outlet to a standard outlet which since I had everything on-hand, and am comfortable with electrical work, took me about 5 minutes.

My overall opinion of this item is that it does its job as advertised. If it fits your needs and the slight vampire power load do not bother you, then it will work out just fine for you.

2USB output too low
By DP
**This review relates to the 1 Amp, 3-outlet version and was posted prior to the introduction of the new products and eventually being combined.

To get directly to this items flaw... It cannot recharge/power more than one USB item at a time. So what's the point in having two USB outputs?
The 120V outlets work as advertised. The ability to rotate the prongs is a plus as it can be adjusted to most if not all outlets.
The USB power fails if more than one item at a time is plugged into the surge protector. Even if, say your phone is fully charged, if you go to connect another item to run or charge, the surge protector will not supply the power that both items demand. The items that are connected will act as if they have been disconnected from their power source, then once the surge protector accumulates enough power(not certain, but seem to act as if there are capacitors)to start supplying power once again the items connected to the USB ports start to operate briefly until the surge protector cannot supply enough power for the two items.
As stated before, it will supply ONE item with power, without a problem. But will not supply enough power for two, even if one item is fully charged.

** Thank you Jeff Backe, I've been putting off editing this post in response to all the people saying that '500mA is the standard' for quite some time. This 500mA WAS the standard well before I made this purchase. The newer standard for wall chargers, which I believe this falls under, has been out since around mid 2007. This new specification is UP TO 1800mA(1.8A) per port.
When I made my purchase there also weren't the nice pictures that show you the current rates. So there really wasn't any way for me to know this until I received it.
Another thing, this item is rated at 500mA(.5mA) per port but is not actually limited to 500mA at the port if you only plug in one item. In other words, the way this item is configured it will actually put out the full 1000mA(1A)through one port, hence the reason you can plug in a high current draw device using one port. But when you plug in that second item the 1000mA is now split in half or however much each device is trying to draw. It is only able to keep up with this high demand for a short while until its capacitors are drained and cuts off supplying power, then quickly recharges the capacitors and re-establishes the supply of power once again. This cycling can't be good for either device.
**edited

5Sneaky Brother
By WA User
So printer ink is expensive but it's required even in this paperless society, but Brother has started to play the same tricks as HP. Once an ink cartridge runs out, printing won't work (at least true on the recent 2011 and newer MFPs). No scanning, no faxing, and no printing (even when not using that color).

If that happens to you, you can "trick" the printer by covering the clear plastic on the print cartridge with colored tape. You can see the area to cover by looking for the float lever in the cartridge (turn it upside down and you'll see it appear and disappear). Put the cartridge back in and the printer will register the ink as full since it thinks the float lever is up and you're good to go.

I suppose if you're going to have to buy ink, getting this 2 pack of the large refills is the best best unless you want to try your luck at the ink refill shops. It worked out as the best price for me.

5The drive is great, but what's interesting is that Intel is also a price leader.
By Al
UPDATE: Amazon no longer sells this drive at the introductory price. Although the drive has increased in price, it's still an excellent SSD, and it's still extremely competitive on a $ per GB basis.

Intel is now a price leader in the 5-year warranty consumer space. This drive was (at Amazon's introductory price) almost the same price as the Samsung 840 Pro 128GB (before provisioning). Intel was giving 50% more space than the Samsung 840 Pro for nearly the same price. Even with the higher price, it's still a better deal per GB than the Samsung 840 Pro.

I have 5 SSDs on my personal computers. 3 of my 5 SSDs are Intel, my other 2 are Samsung 840 (Pro and non-Pro) drives. I have an Intel 330 120GB and 2 of these new 530 180GB drives. Synthetic benchmarks can show the advantages and disadvantages of all my different drives, but for all practical purposes, I can't tell the difference in my daily use. My backups show a small difference, but since my backups are automated weekly, it doesn't make any difference.

Both Intel and Samsung have excellent software packages.

Reliability and price rule my choices. Since flash drives wear out through the process of programming and erasing cells, and use wear-leveling to make the drives last longer, I did a search for these statistics.

A simple search of the reviews of my various drives shows my SSD's different program/erase (p/e) cycles. This is what I found:

Samsung 840 ~ 1,000 p/e cycles;
Samsung 840 Pro ~ 3,000 - 5,000 p/e cycles;

Intel 330 ~ 3,000 p/e cycles;
Intel 335 ~ 3,000 p/e cycles (I don't own this drive, but included it for comparative purposes);
Intel 520/525 ~ 5,000 p/e cycles (I don't own either of these drives, but included them for comparative purposes);
Intel 530 ~ I couldn't find any numbers on p/e cycles, but I would expect the drive to have between 3,000 - 5,000 p/e cycles.

I wouldn't be surprised if Intel is having difficulty keeping up their 520/525's 5,000 p/e cycles benchmark on the 530; Intel's 520/525 uses 25nm NAND and the 530 uses 20nm NAND.

I haven't seen any reports of Samsung moving to sub-20nm NAND, but Micron (Intel's partner in flash memory) has reported that IMFT (Intel Micron Flash Technologies) is already moving to 16nm production as I write this. I doubt if Samsung can keep up with Intel's semiconductor process technology; the Samsung 840 (non-Pro) uses TLC (triple level cell) NAND, and is already at 1,000 p/e cycles.

Although my Samsung 840 and 840 Pro have class leading controllers in the consumer space, the 840's (non-Pro) durability remains hugely questionable given that it's rated at 1,000 p/e cycles; I use this drive on my 85 year old father's computer -- he only uses his computer to browse the internet, and Win8 only uses about 35GB of space.

Samsung has a notorious customer service record. Even now, recent reviews on the Samsung 840 Pro show that there are plenty of conflicting reports on whether the 840 Pro has a 3-year or a 5-year warranty -- Caveat Emptor (let the buyer beware), especially on the Samsung 840 (non-Pro) drive.

While Samsung may find it difficult to scale it's NAND process technology lower, consumers are benefiting from Intel's lower prices.

5Comes with adapter
By wrightwinger
Item COMES WITH 3.5" ADAPTER AND SATAIII cable (but with 180* angled head).
So no need to order an adapter for a desktop.
(No review of actual ssd yet)

5This SSD is compatible with MacBook Pro 13" (Mid 2012) Non-Retina
By Tan Yao Zong
I noticed that not many people left reviews about this product and its compatibility with MacBook, so here's what i gathered so far based on my usage! =)

Laptop Model: MacBook Pro 13" (Mid 2012) Non-Retina
OS: Mac OSX 10.9 Mavericks AND Bootcamp Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

About the product:
Item came in a good sturdy box, and was easy to install. But there was no USB to SATA cable, so those of you who prefer installing the OS on the drive before physically mounting it into your MacBook, you may want to consider getting this cable first. For myself, I clean installed the OS 10.9 from a USB thumbdrive after fitting it into the MacBook.

Compatibility with MacBook Pro:
Boot time:6-8s
Shutdown time: 10-12s

I read on another forum that some other MacBook users experienced problems on a warm reboot (ie. the drive doesnt allow them to reboot after its been startup, and can only do a cold reboot), but so far I have not encountered any of such problems, even with both OSX and bootcamp installed.

Since installation (just a day ago), I'm liking every bit of it, especially the significantly faster bootup times, and that applications and processes are much snappier than before (I was previously using the stock Toshiba 500GB mechanical HDD that shipped with the MacBook).

So for those of you who have doubts over its compatibility with MacBook, i'd go as for to say that there certainly isnt any compatibility issues.. However, if optimisation for efficiency and power-saving features etc is your primary focus, I'm not so sure how well this performs just yet.. Certainly, the low price point (as compared to other brands of SSDs) is a heavy consideration that made me purchase this over the others..

4Great video quality, iffy UI & controls
By J. Treworgy
I bought this brand-new offering from Sony after some research based mostly on its claimed low-light performance and WiFi connectivity. I shoot a lot of indoor home videos and one of the biggest problems with many of the last generation of consumer-grade cams seems to be low-light performance.

GOOD

The video quality is indeed very good in low-light situations, and for this reason -- by far, the most important criteria for a camera -- it gets four stars. It makes great videos. You can choose from a variety of video quality settings (balancing recording time with quality). The lower-quality settings compromise a lot in low-light, I'd use at least FH ("High Quality") to get acceptable video in most situations. It has amazingly good image stabilization.

The camera has a little built-in USB cable which tucks into the handle when not in use. This is a surprisingly handy feature since it means you'll never be looking around for a wire when you need to charge it on the go. It's completely unobtrusive. It also has a regular micro USB port.

It's got a built in DLNA server feature so you can just switch it on and view your videos right from the camera on most any modern TV or DVD player. It works very well.

LESS GOOD

It's extremely lightweight, which I guess is good, but it feels kind of cheap. I doubt it would survive a 3 foot drop onto a tile floor. The settings are managed through a miniature joystick which you use to navigate through menus and push to select. It works okay, but a touch screen would have been far better. There's also another button under the joystick which switches between "record" and "play" mode, mostly.

There are a couple minor but somewhat irritating design issues. First, when using power save mode, the camera powers itself off after some pretty short period of inactivity. There's no way to power it on again other than closing & reopening the screen. Not a big deal, but just one of those "really?" kind of things. If the screen's already open, why can't I just push a button to turn it back on?

Next, the camera itself has just two operational buttons (record and photo, to take a still), plus a zoom control. Frankly, a couple more buttons would have gone a long way, because basically anything you want to do other than start and stop recording, must be done through the tiny joystick. I sure hope it doesn't break! That includes: switching to very-low light mode; changing basically any video setting; syncing with a PC.

Speaking of syncing, this was one of the other primary features I looked for. It's got a "push" function that lets you transmit your videos to a PC via WiFi without needing to access the PC. In theory, anyway. I've been unable to make it work more than once. Following a physical USB connection to a PC sporting the (not bad but a bit bloated) PlayMemories software, it's supposed to just connect and transfer automatically. The problem is, it only works once. If I go an plug it into the PC via USB again, I can get it to sync wirelessly once more. But then it won't work next time. It's still possible to sync wirelessly if you initiate it from the computer -- that is, the device does actually connect over WiFi, it just doesn't perform the transfer as it's supposed to after the first connection.

When I get around to one of those mind-numbing tech support calls I'll hopefully have a better resolution in the future. I'm a geek, though, usually if I can't figure it out, it's broken. There's almost no information online about troubleshooting this, and the manual is terrible (to the point of not even mentioning the vast majority of the configuration options!) Luckily this seems to be a UI that's standard to other Sony cameras so you can find out what the stuff means online, but it seems pretty lame that the manual doesn't even mention (much less explain) most of the settings. The manual has a tab on the front page referring to a section called "Customizing your Camcorder" which doesn't actually exist.

So overall:

Pros:

-- Excellent video quality
-- Good battery life
-- Nice feature set (assuming you can get everything to work)
-- Lots of options, effects
-- Excellent image stabilization

Cons:

-- Clunky UI & controls
-- Configuration for useful WiFi push sync feature problematic
-- Cheap-feeling construction

5Good things come in small packages.
By Del Hollingsworth
Excellent camcorder, no bigger than a soda can and half the weight. Awesome zoom and HD picture. battery life is incredible. Love the fact that only 4 buttons control multiple functions. Recorded outside at night in low light and could not believe good the picture was. Great value.

5Amazing Camcorder
By Freddie Lee
I have owed many camcorders in my life and this is by far the best out of all of them. Out of all the brands I have used, Sony is my favorite. This one in particular is absolutely amazing compared to the Sony hdrcx220. I especially like the mp4 video format, it loads extremely fast when I load onto YouTube for my channel at "Freddie's Modern Kung Fu". I had to purchase a special memory card that was extra tiny but had a very high speed, that combined with the camcorder resulted in very fast uploads which is very important for me. The Wide Angle lens captures a lot of your surroundings even in tight fitting rooms which is a primary feature that I was most concerned with. Note that 26.8 mm means that it captures more than the 29.8 mm, the person at Best Buy told me the opposite which was not correct. Compared to the 29.8 mm, the 26.8 mm wide lens does capture much more. Excellent camcorder that is well worth the money, I highly recommend it.
