1Fake Fake Fake mophie juice pack air iphone 5

I saw this was sold by "Mophie" and thought this should be a real one..... Nope. Worked for about a week then failed. I called Mophie and they told me they dont sell on Amazon. They also asked me to send some pics of it to them. the emailed me back and told me it was a fake. Amazon should police this better. I did get my money back. I got the

1Very disappointing
By SamIAm
I've had Mophie Juice Packs for my iPhones 3 and 4 and they were awesome products. So I didn't even think about buying any other brand when the 5 came out. I love the battery life and I actually like the feel of the iPhone 5 with the Mophie better than without. It just seems to fit my hand better and it also adds some grip.
Then reason I'm giving it 2 stars is their implementation of the USB connection. On the past two models for iPhones 3 and 4, the USB connector was a complete passthrough device. You plug it in where iPhones go and it just works. Unfortunately with the 5 they don't pass through the connection. I opened a support case about it and Mophie said that the pass through was not necessary since the 5 will sync wirelessly. That is indeed the case, however now when I plug my phone into my iPhone connection in my car it no longer sees the phone. So I have to remove the Mophie every time I want to use my phone as an audio source in the car. I don't think that their engineers through through the implementation properly. In my case this is critical flaw worthy of the 2 star rating.
So I'll just buy another iPhone case and keep the Mophie in the drawer until I have a specific need, such as a long flight.

And update to this review. On top of the connector issue, the power switch is poorly designed. It tends to get switched on when you carry it around in your pocket. So I'm changing my review to 1 star. No more Mophie for me.

1Ripped off
By Brian33
I bought this for work and it stopped charging after the 30 days return with Amazon, so I followed up with Mophie. Mophie sent the it back to me saying it is counterfeit. The company that sold it on Amazon (Case Space)does not reply to my emails that I have to post through Amazon. Case Space are apparently criminals and Amazon dropped the ball.

1quick ship....interesting packing
By RB Semper fi
***BEWARE*** I received the batteries very quickly...however I was expecting a factory sealed package of 100 batteries...instead I received a bulging box of 100 individual batteries randomly dumped into a box.
(ADDITON TO MY INITIAL REVIEW)Don't let the great price fool you. I have had the batteries for 10 weeks and discovered that more than half of the batteries were defective. I will not order from them again.

1Compromised Batteries
By Thom Boglino
these batteries are not in a retail package of any kind. they ship in a mail bag inside an overstuffed box. All the contacts are touching each other. This is no way to sell / distribute retail merchandise. The batteries are not safe after they contacts touch each other. they can short out and/or even leak. Please DO NOT BUY this item unless it has a UPC number and not just an ASIN number. The later is an amazon number. The UPS assures you are getting retail merchandise.

4...But I Have Black, Right?
By JAime
I learned the hard way that my Canon printer needs TWO black ink cartridges -- 226 BK and 225 PGBK. Apparently, one black (226) is used exclusively for images, and one (225) exclusively for text. When my PGBK cartridge ran dry, I thought the BK cartridge would take over, since it was still 75% full. Nope.

Now that I've purchased this combo pack, convenient as it is, the BK cartridge is gathering dust next to my printer, unused.

3What the heck is Canon thinking!
By kitties1
I agree with most of the people that have written reviews. Believe it or not.....it costs less at times to purchase a new printer that comes with in than buying the ink alone. Our stores have this model on sale all the time. Actually ran into a guy the other day who had like 6 of them in his shopping cart and said.....yeah buying the printer for the ink.

So, what do you do with all the printers? I guess they all go to land fill, just what we need. Canon we like your product, so give us a break on the ink.......

2Quality ink, but another dumb combo from Canon
By JB
I have always stuck with OEM ink, because the results and reliability are worth the extra cost to me (plus printer manufacturers are making it increasingly difficult to use non-OEM solutions).

However, it is beyond dumb to see the combos that Canon is offering for the new line of ink jet cartridges. In this case Canon gives you four color cartridges, but all of their current PIXMA printers take five or six - to get the Pigment Black or Gray cartridges you'll have to buy them separately and at a higher price. Plus this combo includes 50 sheets of paper that not everyone needs (I have plenty already). Perhaps Canon should ditch the paper and lower the list price of this combo by eight dollars - the amount this CLI-226 combo was increased over the CLI-221 combo it replaced.

BTW, the other package deal offered by Canon (PGI-225 BK/ CLI-226 C,M,Y 4 Pack Value Pack (4530B008)) is another strange combo that includes Pigment Black and three colors, but does not include Black or Gray.

Sorry, but it makes no sense whatsoever to not offer at least a 5-cartridge refill kit for a printers that needs 5 or 6 different inks - except that it lines Canon's pockets a bit more than it should. A kit that substituted Pigment Black for the paper would make more sense than this - or as I said earlier just get rid of the paper and lower the price significantly.

I also have to knock off a star because the new cartridges are opaque, which may have been done to thwart refillers but also prevents users from checking the ink level themselves.

Edit July 2011: When my Pixma MX860 printer recently failed I was looking at upgrading to the Canon PIXMA MG8120 Wireless Inkjet Photo All-In-One Printer (4504B002). But in large part due my dissatisfaction with the ink cartridges of the new Pixmas I went with a refurbished Canon PIXMA MP990 Wireless Inkjet Photo All-In-One Printer (3749B002) which uses the previous generation CLI-221 cartridges.

Cheaper to procure than elsewhere; shipped with great care and at Warp Speed; an official product (not a knock-off), so works as intended - I'll save my rant about printers and proprietary ink for elsewhere - and arrived in time to save our bacon on a bunch of needed, home-printed flyers. Couldn't be happier with the transaction.

2Perplexed
By B. Trautman
I ordered and received in a timely fashion, a combo pack of XL Cartridges. I immediately installed all the colors since my printer was very low. The first thing I tried to print, the printer refused and reported the yellow cartridge was either damaged or incorrectly installed. So, I opened the printer, took the yellow out, checked all the others and re-inserted the yellow. Again, the same message. I tried once again with the same results. The other cartridges work just fine and when I retrieved my old cartridge, it worked just fine. So, I had to make a trip to Office Depot to buy a new yellow cartridge which works just fine. How can I rate something that is almost OK? How can I return it as defective without returning the whole set which I need to use now? Long since I have thrown away the packaging which I had to rip apart because it was a blister package. I just learned to buy locally no matter how much I really do like Amazon.

5Sneaky Brother
By WA User
So printer ink is expensive but it's required even in this paperless society, but Brother has started to play the same tricks as HP. Once an ink cartridge runs out, printing won't work (at least true on the recent 2011 and newer MFPs). No scanning, no faxing, and no printing (even when not using that color).

If that happens to you, you can "trick" the printer by covering the clear plastic on the print cartridge with colored tape. You can see the area to cover by looking for the float lever in the cartridge (turn it upside down and you'll see it appear and disappear). Put the cartridge back in and the printer will register the ink as full since it thinks the float lever is up and you're good to go.

I suppose if you're going to have to buy ink, getting this 2 pack of the large refills is the best best unless you want to try your luck at the ink refill shops. It worked out as the best price for me.

Follow up to previous post dated 03/21/2014. Finally received the product on 03/25/2014, it was originally ordered on 03/05/2014. 5Work great
By KG62
These work great, I use them for all our electronics. I also use these to clean out the small air filter that is inside our Roomba vacuum. I haven't had to replace the filter yet since this gas duster does such a good job keeping the filter clear. Also works very well to clean out the filter and easily damaged coils of our window A/C.

Many uses around the home. I will repurchase this brand when I need more.

5More ecconomical than batteries.
By 1 NME
I ordered this product along with a Leappad2, said item was in stock ready to ship but did not receive for another 4 days after I received the Laeppad. I could have purchased the charger pack locally at a higher price so I purchased batteries so that my daughter could use her new Leappad before we received the charger pack. The batteries lasted anywhere from 4-5hrs/4AA. The money I spent in the four days on batteries was more than the difference in price and will make up the cost of the charger pack within the first 40 hours of use. I have charged the charger pack two times (including initial charge) and my daughter has gotten close to 14hrs of use(6.5-7 hrs per charge) I am happy with this purchase and would recommend over using AA batteries. The "batteries" fit the Leappad2 perfectly and the battery doors closed just as they should, unlike prior reviews.(there is a right and left door if mixed up won't close all the way) It looks and feels like it is solidly constructed and uses quality materials. Have not needed it yet, but the ability to plug the Leappad into an outlet and use without batteries adds functionality and versatility to the Leappad and I think is almost a necessity.

5Tin-can to almost Mercedes feeling, no joke!
By Carl Kriesant
I've had the dynamat installed in my '04 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport for about a month now and it was well worth the effort. When I say effort, I tore out my entire interior to install this stuff. Inner and outer door skins, entire floor (doubled up in places), trunk (doubled up again), rear hatch, and under my hood. It took a total of about 17 hours to install and trashed my hands, cuts and sore for several days. I used the dynamat heavy-duty roller for most of the installation and the handle of the roller to push the material into tight crevacises. My entire car, exluding the roof, took 2 3/4 bulk packs. I still have some left over and trying to figure out what to do with it...

The results: You could say I was skeptical like other users, mostly because I hadn't known anyone who used it or what dynamat was even made of really. It's basically sheets of tar (butyl rubber) backed with thick aluminum foil. This stuff is heavy, but pretty thin and tucks into tight places pretty easily. While at first I noticed an increase in my cars weight, it seems to be less noticable the more I drive. What's more noticable is the quiet ride and solid-feeling the car now has. The doors really do close with a thud and not that reverberating tin-can sound like before. The entire chassis feels much more rigid and stiff, like a higher priced, luxury car. My roommate, who drives a Benz C-class, said the stiffness was immediately apparent and the road noises was significantly reduced. This girl loves to drive and she was pretty impressed with the results.

The amount of road noise from freeways was almost difficult to carry on conversations or listen to music clearly before. Much more quiet now. If you've ridden in a subaru impreza, you know how loud they are! While it's not Lexus quiet, it's much, MUCH better than a stock subaru. There's still some noise, but I wasn't able to cover the firewall as much as I would have liked and my tires are lousy. When new tires are needed, I'm going back to a quality set and that should help a lot more. (BTW, Bridgestone-made Fuzion HR's suck a$$, but they are cheap.) I'm going with Bridgestone Turanza's next time.

My intention was purely to block out road noise and make a more comfortable environment for myself and passangers. A bonus to killing the road noise was the improvement in my cars audio quality. I had previously installed an Alpine h.u., Alpine speakers and Audiobahn d-class amp w/ a 10" sub and it really brought my system to life. I never knew what mid-bass was till after the dynamat was installed. I'm amazed to get that much thump, out of 6 1/2" door speakers!! I had to go back into the headunit and re-adjust my equalizer because the entire soundstage totally changed. It really allows me to enjoy my music to it's fullest without an amp for the door speakers, which is nice! My music consists mostly of hardcore, metal-core, metal and punk. The dynamat really brought out crisp, clean sound that wasn't distorted at higher volumes like before. It's also allowed me to tune in really precise and crisp bass hits from my single 10", enough to make my rearview mirror droop with each hit. I love hearing and feeling the kick drums in heavy music.

All-in-all, I am extremely pleased with the results. At first I was tired and my hands and back ached from two straight days of installation, all the while thinking "what the hell am I doing!?". But now, I can sit back on a drive, carry on conversations without raising our voices, listen to my music with better definition and clearity, or enjoy a nice peaceful interior alone. It's been well worth the effort.

Would I do it all over again??

In a heartbeat on this car. Hopefully the next car will be more quiet from the factory... if not, I'll probably dyanmat that one too!

5Luxury and comfort in a box
By doc
I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical at first, but I am now a believer.

To begin with, if you look at the trend of reviews on Dynamat, it tends to show that people are either completely satisfied (5 stars) or unsatisfied (1 star). I suspect that those who are giving one star ratings either don't know how to properly install the product or they just expect miracles.

I have a '07 Camry which I love but roadnoise has been getting to my sensitive hearing lately. *NOTE: I have a leather interior which lends to a louder interior when compared to an upholstered interior. My biggest problem was music listening when driving on long hauls over roads that are rough. I would have to crank up the radio to hear it, and it was not even intelligible at that. With this bulk kit, I was able to line nearly my entire trunk, the rear speaker decklid, and the floorboard beneath the rear seat where the gastank sits. The results are phenomenal!

I am not prepared to tear out my entire interior to do the ceiling and floorboards and firewall, but beware it is a lot of work. With having prior knowledge of how to tear down my car, it took me 8 hours to completion for the rear of my car. Seriously consider taking your time to install it, and do it the right way.

If you do a rush job, you will have a rushed-job results and you won't be happy. You have to prep the surface which is just fine with a can of Denatured Alcohol and a white rag. It is imperative that you roll this substance on real good. The performance of this product depends on how you tack it to the surface. The more contact it has with the surface (ribs and creases and all) the better it will perform. I highly recommend the rubber hand tool as it conforms easier to bends in the metal making it easier to form. I suspect the wooden tool would do just fine, but it may be harder since it doesn't have any "give" to it for forming those tough spots.

I am very happy with my results. Without doing the whole car, I have cut my road noise in half literally. I notice no roadnoise from the rear now, it's all from the doors and front, etc. but I am not prepared to tear out my interior. The stock speakers in the car perform 200% better, although they still suck. Before the application I wasnt able to turn up the volume without losing the bass completely. Now I have decent full-range sound and I no longer have to turn up the radio to hear it. I used to turn up the volume to 26-30 just to hear it (which I still couldn't understand because of the noise). Now, I leave it at around 15 and never have to turn it up to hear it or even understand the music! No joke.

One last note on installation: if you aren't worried about the look of the install (because it is going to be covered with carpet, etc.) don't be afraid to cut it up. You will more than likely use every piece. It is much easier to work with in strips. Large curves are a son-of-a-gun. The product is very thin, but very tough. AVOID AIR POCKETS!

5My doors go "kfump" now, instead of "klang"
By Dane Shepherd
I agree with the others; anyone who doesn't like this product must have installed it wrong.

I have a 2000 Honda CR-V SE. I lined the underside of the hood, the entire roof, all four doors (inside the doors and the surface), much of the floor, the spare tire well, the rear quarters (inside, behind the rear speakers) and lots of the tailgate with two (2x) Bulk Packs (9 sheets each.) I had not planned to line the roof, but after gutting the seats, all trim panels, and all the carpeting it seemed worthwhile. I cannot explain how differently the vehicle sounds now. EVERYONE compliments it (including my wife, who could not understand why I was spending the time and money on the project in the first place, but now wants me to Dynamat her Solara!) The doors go "kfump". Knocking on the hood, roof, or doors sounds like hitting a solid wood desk. There are NO vibrations or rattles in the car whatsoever (I also got some cheap self-adhesive felt sheets from a hobby store and lined the ashtray, glove box, and little change compartments. Now it's like driving around with ear muffs on. There is still some road noise, because I have pretty knobby tires, but the incredible thing is that I can no longer hear my exhaust from the rear of the car, and sometimes I'll look sideways and notice an 18 wheeler beside me that I did not even hear. When I pass vehicles going the opposite direction I am used to the "whee-owwww" as they go by, but now it is a "whiff", or just silent.

Lining the roof made a huge difference when driving in the rain, but since the windshield is so noisy in a downpour the cabin is still pretty loud, but there is no "ratta-tat-tat" from the metal anymore at all.

I bought a heat gun and the rubber Dynamat roller specifically for this project (though I'm sure I'll get plenty more use out of the heat gun). I agree with many of the other reviewers that if you do not press this stuff down in FIRM contact with your vehicle that you will not get the best results. I've done MUCH (much, much, much, much...) research on this and the bottom line is that this product is so effective because of "vibration damping", NOT sound blocking. If you hold a sheet up in midair between you and a speaker it will have no effect. If you glue it to the speaker you will virtually stop the sound.

I can also go on about how AMAZINGLY different that my stereo sounds, but I think everyone else covered that. Yes; more mid-bass. Yes; you will hear things in your music that you never heard before. Something that surprised me though was how much quieter your music is OUTSIDE your car. I am not a loud person, and I always turn the volume down at stop lights, and in residential neighborhoods, but one time I stepped out of my car and left the stereo on at a pretty comfortable level. When I closed the door I could not hear it at all. Nothing. Nada. That was a nice bonus.

This stuff is incredible when installed right. Amazon had the best prices in all my searches. You will ache, you will probably bleed, but a weekend or two of hard work should reward you for years. Enjoy!

4The journey...
By Victor M. Susanto
I purchased this product for my new iPhone 5s from Best Buy to take advantage of their low price guarantee (Thanks Amazon for helping me bargain!). It was advertised that it was precharged (partially) right out of the box, good thing too, I only had 7% left for the ride home. Opened the box, slapped it on, got me home and an additional 23% in a 20min car ride home.

When I got home, plugged the cell/case into the wall and let it fully charge. To my surprise, I received the "This accessory may not be supported." error message, but my cell was at 100% now. Disappointed, wanted to return it. But wait, it still worked. Searched online if anyone else had this error, couldn't find it. Okay, I have my box and receipt and 14 days to play with it, let's just see how it goes.

Next day, normal usage, no big deal. Mophie recommends to drain cell to 20% then flip the switch to use the case battery. But, I wanted to see if I'd get that message again. Flipped switch, for about 5-10 mins, no message, charged back up to 90-95%. Then turned case back off and wanted to see if it was my USB cable, no error message. So far so good.

Got through the day and night, no plug-in over night. Next morning, woke up, had 50% case battery (2 LEDs), and 85% cell batt. Did the recommended usage, worked flawlessly. Plugged back in, end of day, charged to 100% cell, got the error again. Case was at 1 LED. Ignored the error, let it charge over night. Yay, 100% cell and 100% case.

Also, I noted that when plugged in the cell and case don't charge simultaneously, but rather sequentially (note the 1 LED above). The cell charged first, then the case. But if you are doing it over night, no biggie.

Docked it a star, just because of that error message, which is disconcerting and annoying. Noted that the error might even be a "good" thing though, because it only appeared when cell was at 100% already, and by then, you'd want the cell charge (plug-in) to disengage. I don't think it would melt the phone or anything, but maybe you can consider the error message another fail-safe?

In sum, I am keeping the Mophie. It does what it's supposed to do. The case is solid and has comfortable girth and weight in your hand (what she said). Feels like it provides enough protecion than the delicate iPhone on its own. It does block the lightning plug, so for hard wired syncers, you'd have to remove the case (which is a task). However, those who sync thru wifi and the icloud, just flip the switch on, and it will auto sync seamlessly.

Hope this helps!

5very useful - good purchase
By RGV
It's solid - built really well. Not at all cheapy. handles well. others mind the headphone extension, but I do not know why - it's just fine (free - comes with this). Works like it is supposed to - and there is no need to remove it.

I am not a big sync person - but if I were, this could be a challenge. They say to use wireless sync, so that is an option. Since your iphone will be in this case - it cannot be synced by plugging it into the computer without taking it out. Big deal.

the phone feels better with this case - and I love the black, slick design. Also has a rubber seal around it so the face of the phone cannot be touched if dropped or laying flat face down. I use a plastic shield in addition anyway.

you can charge both the phone and Mophie together without removing the phone.

very simple - useful. done.

5Those are genuine second-generation eneloop cells - as far as I can tell
By NLee the Engineer
I have done extensive testing on the original eneloop rechargeable batteries since early 2007, shortly after they were introduced in the US. I have also tested the blue second-generation eneloop cells from the Costco eneloop package back in 2010. But this is the first time I have seen second-gen eneloop in white wrappings being sold in the US. With so much talk about counterfeit eneloop going around, I was understandably cautious when I purchased those SANYO NEW 1500 eneloop 8 Pack AA Ni-MH Pre-Charged Rechargeable Batteries.

I tested four of those cells, using my old La Crosse BC-900 Battery Charger.
- Right out of the package, their average remaining charge is 1568mAh, or nearly 80% of the rated capacity of 2000mAh. The spread is also very small, from 1558 to 1577mAh. This proves that they are indeed low-self-discharge type. (Date code on my cells says "11-01", or Jan 2011)
- After one recharge/discharge cycle, their average capacity improved to 2115mAh
- After two more recharge/discharge cycles, their average capacity leveled off at 2133mAh, or more than 6% higher than the rated capacity.

The above results are very consistent with what I have previously observed, while testing second-gen eneloop cells in the Costco package. Therefore I'm convinced that those are indeed genuine second-gen Sanyo eneloop cells. (See the scans I uploaded to Customer Images section, if you need to distinguish between old and new eneloop cells)

On the other hand, currently the prices of those new eneloop cells are about 25-50% higher than that of the original eneloop cells. So one may question: do the new eneloop cells offer sufficient improvement over the old, to justify the price different? Let's compare the following factors:

- Cycle Life: The 2nd-gen eneloop claims to "recharge up to 1500 cycles", while the original only claims 1000 cycles. This 50% improvement looks great on paper, but note that if you recharge your eneloop cells twice every week, it will take 10 years to reach 1000 cycles. So in real life, most average users will never notice the difference.

- Self-Discharge Rate: The new eneloop cells claim to "maintain 75% charge after 3 years", while the original only claims "80% after 2 years". Again, in real life most people will never notice the difference.

- Capacity: First-gen eneloop AA cells have "Typ 2000mAh, Min 1900mAh" printed on them, while 2nd-gen eneloop AA cells only say "Min 1900mAh". But in fact they have the same capacity rating of 2000mAh (typical) according to official Sanyo web site. My measured capacity numbers are actually around 2100mAh for both versions.

BOTTOM LINE:
Both the new and old eneloop cells are excellent products. You can safely mix and match them in any application, and probably nobody can tell the difference in the next 10 years. But in case you can't decide which version is a better value... Just flip a coin and pick one - you can't lose either way!

[Update on July 31, 2011]
Long term self-discharge data: I have tested a pair of new eneloop AA cells after 104 days sitting on the shelf (the batteries, not me). The average remaining charge is 88.7%. This charge-retention rate is slightly better than that of the original eneloop, but the difference is within margin of error for my experiment.

[Update on May 8, 2012]
Nowadays the 2nd-gen eneloop cells are generally priced lower than the original. So you should definitely get the newer version.

[Update on Apr 7, 2013]
Long-term self-discharge rate update: I just tested a set of 2nd-gen eneloop AA cells after two years in storage. They retained 1685mAh, or 84% of rated capacity. This is no difference from the claimed charge retention rate of 3rd-gen enellop (which says 85% after two years). See my following review on 3rd-gen eneloop:

5Sanyo eneloop FAQ
By NLee the Engineer
I have been using Sanyo eneloop low-self-discharge NiMH batteries since beginning of 2007, and I'm completely satisfied with them. One thing I noticed is that newcomers to the rechargeable battery arena often have similar questions/confusions about eneloop. So here is my list of eneloop Frequently Asked Questions. This list is work in progress.

[Q1] My Sanyo eneloop AA batteries say '1900mAh' on them. Are they counterfeits?
[A] All eneloop AA cells (both original and second-gen versions) are rated for "Typ 2000mAh, Min 1900mAh" according to Sanyo. The confusing part is that 2nd-gen eneloop AA cell only has "Min 1900mAh" printed on it, even though the actual measured capacity is close to 2100mAh.
Simialrily, eneloop AAA cells are rated for "Typ 800mAh, Min 750mAh".

[Q2] Date code on my new eneloop cells says '10 01' (Jan 2010). Should I exchange them for newer batteries?
[A] Relax! Unlike ordinary NiMH cells, Sanyo eneloop are still perfectly good even after 5 years in storage. Once you recharge them, they will return to 100% capacity again.

[Q3] What is the difference between 'Pre-Charged', 'Hybrid', 'Stay-Charged', 'Active Charged', 'Ready to Use' and 'Ready to Go'?
[A] Those are all marketing terms for Low-Self-Discharge (LSD) NiMH batteries. Sanyo first used the term 'Pre-Charged' for Sanyo eneloop back in 2006. Rayovac used 'Hybrid', and so on.

[Q4] I just received some new eneloop batteries. Do I need to recharge them before use?
[A] You can use them right out of the package. However, eneloop cells are only charge up to ~75% when they left factory. So you can use a Smart charger to 'top-off' their charges. Do NOT do this with a Dumb charger because it will badly over-charge them.

[Q5] I thought I have to drain my batteries completely before recharging them?
[A] This is only necessary if you are using a timer-based dumb charger. With a smart charger, you can top-off your batteries anytime.

[Q6] Can I use other brands of chargers to recharge Sanyo eneloop batteries?
[A] Sanyo eneloop batteries can be recharged using any good-quality Smart charger designed for NiMH cells. But for longer battery lifespan, avoid ultra-fast (15- or 30-minute) chargers and Dumb (overnight) slow chargers

[Q7] What is the difference between 'Smart' and 'Dumb' chargers?
[A] A Smart charger monitors the voltage profile of each cell individually during charging, and stops when a charge-termination signal (negative delta-Voltage) is detected. This is the only way to avoid over-charging. A Dumb charge relies on safety timer to stop charging, or has no termination mechanism at all. This usually results in over-charging which is bad for battery lifespan.

[Q8] Should I stick to the Sanyo MQN06 charger packaged with most Sanyo packages?
[A] The MQN06 is semi-smart but has two issues: it charges in pairs (monitors the combined voltage of two cells), and the charging current is only 300mA. That means it take about 7 hour to recharge a pair of eneloop AA cells. A better choice is the Sony Cycle Energy BCG34HLD.
[ Note: Charge time (hour) = Capacity (mAh) / Current (mA) ]

[Q9] What is the best charging speed for Sanyo eneloop?
[A] Choose a charger that gives you charge time between 2-5 hours. That means charging current of 500-1000mA for AA, 200-500mA for AAA.

[Q10] Isn't it true the best charging speed for NiMH and LSD-NiMH battery is the slowest?
[A] That is only true when using a dumb charger which blindly charges for 12-15 hours, so the current has to be below 0.1C (200mA for a 2000mAh cell) to avoid over-heating. For a smart charger, the current needs to be at least 0.2C to ensure proper termination.

[Q11] I always keep a set of ordinary NiMH batteries in the charger to keep them freshly charged. So why do I need LSD cells?
[A] You don't need to do that with LSD cells. Just charge up a spare set ahead of time and keep them in your drawer. Swap them in whenever needed, just as how you use disposable cells.

[Q12] Why should I buy those 2000mAh Sanyo eneloop instead of ordinary NiMH batteries that are rated 2500mAh or higher?
[A] All rechargeable NiMH AA cells rated 2500mAh or higher are susceptible to Rapid-self-discharge problem. Beware of off-brand batteries that claim '2900mAh' or higher. Most of them can't even deliver 2000mAh.

[Q13] Can I use eneloop in places with extremely hot weather?
[A] As a rule of thumb, every 10 degree C rise in temperature causes the battery's self-discharge rate to double. So although your eneloop cells can still function correctly, their shelf life will be reduced at high ambient temperature.

[Q14] Should I store unused eneloop batteries in the refrigerator to extend their shelf life?
[A] For ordinary NiMH cells, storing them in lower temperature greatly reduces their self-discharge rate so you can get longer shelf life. For eneloop cells it is hardly worth the trouble, because they can be stored for years at room temperature.

[Q15] Can I use eneloop batteries in cordless phones?
[A] Yes - as long as your phones (such as Panasonic DECT 6.0 cordless phones) are using individual AAA cells, instead of battery packs with special connectors.

[Q16] Do rechargeable batteries only go bad after they meet the number of charging cycles, or their lifespan is limited by time also?
[A] Capacity of a NiMH cell gradually deteriorates with number of discharge cycles. The 'lifespan' claimed by manufacturer is the number of deep-discharge cycles before capacity drops to 50%. This is done under tightly controlled test conditions, so in real life your result may vary.

[Q17] When rechargeable batteries go bad, do they also spill chemicals (like alkaline cells) or just won't hold a charge?
[A] Good-quality NiMH cells do not spill electrolyte as they gradually deteriorate. The only chance this can happen is when they are (a) severely over-charged at a high current, or (b) severely over-discharged, or (c) exposed to extreme heat.

[Q18] My baby swing calls for 4 D sized batteries. Do eneloop D spacers work well?
[A] You can use those in a pinch, but expect to replace/recharge your AA cells a lot more frequently than before. This is because the energy stored in an alkaline D cell is about 7-10 times greater than that in eneloop AA cell. See my following review for other options: SANYO Eneloop Spacer Packs with 2 AA with 2 D-Size Spacers

[Q19] My La Crosse BC-700 Battery Charger reports some eneloop batteries as 'null'. Are they defective?
[A] If a battery is over-discharged and its voltage drops below 0.5V, the La Crosse charger cannot detect it and so the display says 'null'. Charge your 'null' battery in a dumb charger for a few minutes, then the La Crosse charger will recognize it.

[Q20] I read on Wikipedia that there is an Eneloop 3rd generation battery (HR-4UTGB.) Are they worth getting over second generation?
[A] Panasonic (who bought Sanyo in 2009) claims that lifespan of 3rd-gen eneloop cells has been upgraded from 1500 to 1800 cycles. But keep in mind that even if you recharge your cells twice every week, it will take you nearly 15 years to use up 1500 cycles from your 2nd-gen eneloop cells.

[Q21] Are the new AmazonBasics Pre-Charged Rechargeable Batteries just rebranded 1st-gen eneloop cells?
[A] Not exactly. According to their mechanical features, they are most likely SECOND-gen eneloop cells. See my review for details: http://www.amazon.com/review/RLX50IR99K7PL/

[Q22] How do the new Duracell pre-charged Batteries ('2400mAh', 'Long Life Ion Core') compare to Sanyo eneloop or XX cells?
[A] Based on my testing, I believe the Duracell 'ion core' AA cells are actually rebranded Sanyo XX AA cells, while the Duracell AAA cells are rebranded 2nd-gen eneloop AAA.

5Second-gen eneloop better than the first - by a hair
By NLee the Engineer
This package (Sanyo SEC-HR4U4BPN) contains four second-generation eneloop AAA rechargeable batteries. I have tested those cells using my old La Crosse BC-900 Advanced Battery Charger. Here are my findings:
- Right out of the package, the average remaining charge is 640mAh, or 80% of the rated capacity (800mAh)
- After the first recharge cycle, the average capacity increased to 839mAh.
- After two more recharge/discharge cycles, the average capacity leveled off at 843mAh, or 5% higher than rated capacity.

The above is very consistent with the results I obtained last year, while testing 2nd-gen eneloop AAA cells from the Costco package. Therefore I have no doubt that those batteries are genuine. Date code embossed on them says "10-12", which means Dec 2010 (see my upload in the "Customer Images" section, if you need to know where to find the date code).

According to Sanyo press releases, those 2nd-generation eneloop cells offer several benefits over the original eneloop:
- Can be recharged "up to 1500 cycles" (vs. "1000 cycles" for the original)
- Can hold "75% charge after 3 years" (vs. "80% after 2 years")
- Works down to -20 degree C (vs. -10 degree C)

In real life, however, it is nearly impossible for the average user to experience those benefits. Note the even if you recharge your cells twice every week, it will take nearly ten years to reach 1000 cycles. Furthermore, the advertised self-discharge rates for new and old eneloop cells are actually the same during first two years.

As to the capacity: original eneloop AAA cells have "Typ. 800mAh, Min. 750mAh" printed on them. The new eneloop AAA cells only say "Min. 750mAh". This has created confusions for some people, who thought the new version has lower capacity. But according to Sanyo web site, capacity of the new AAA is also 800mAh typical. My own test results, however, have shown that measured capacity of the original eneloop is around 4% higher than rated, whereas capacity of the new eneloop is about 5% higher than rated. Again, the difference is so small that most users will never notice it.

BOTTOM LINE:
Second-generation eneloop cells do offer some improvements over the original, but the actual benefit is very hard to verify in real life. In my case, the price I paid for this new eneloop AAA package is only 10% higher than that of the old one, so I consider it a good deal. If the price difference is much greater, then you have to decide whether it is worthwhile to pay extra for those perceived benefits.

[Update on May 31, 2011]
Prices for the new eneloop AAA have came down further during the past month, so now it is an even better deal. But just in case you are looking for greater bargains, you may want to consider the GP ReCkyo Pre-Charged AAA cells. They are priced lower than Sanyo eneloop, and have slightly higher capacity (rated 850mAh, measured 880mAh).

[Update on July 31, 2011]
Long term self-discharge data: I have tested a pair of new eneloop AAA cells after 92 days sitting on the shelf (the batteries, not me). The average remaining charge is 89.4%. This charge-retention rate is slightly better than that of the original eneloop, but the difference is within margin of error for my experiment.

[Update on July 3, 2012]
Amazon again combined multiple Sanyo eneloop products (many AA/AAA packages and different chargers) into a single product page. This makes it very difficult for people to find reviews for a specific product. In particular, my "Sanyo eneloop FAQ" was previously attached to the product page of Sanyo eneloop 4 Pack AA, but now it can only be found by following this link:

1Started with an excitement, now it is a disappointment.
By Dionne Jacques
I always been a fan of Mophie, their battery case for the iPhone 4 was a fantastic idea, it last my phone for almost two days and I really loved it. As I finally switch from the old iPhone 4 to the new iPhone 5, I immediately ordered one of the Mophie Juice Pack Helium from Mophie, expected to see a good result like before, but it was a disappointment…
My Verizon service dropped down two bars whenever I turn on the case in my house, where I always got full bars. As I got on the highway, I got no service at all. This really hurts me because I am an insurance Agent, every call means income to me, now I can not get calls or make calls, this is bad.
The battery life is not living up to expectation as well, it only provides about another 50% to my phone and this is NOT GOOD for $80, I paid about the same amount a year and a half ago for the 4’s version and I got a very good result…
The last and the most critical issue… it doesn’t support data transfer nor sync with computer. I will have to remove this case (which is very hard once you put it on) and plug it my Apple lightning connector if I want to listen to music in my car via the USB port.
These cons are killing this product; I guess I will have to move ahead and find a better solution…
Feedback: Started with an excitement, now it is a disappointment… kills my Verizon phone signal, less than 60% battery life and can’t sync nor data transfer, bummer…

4Good case with design limitations
By Joshua R. Kagan
I received this case a few days ago, just in time for a business trip that would have me out and about for a 15+ hour day. I travel like this quite frequently, and typically these day trips come without access to a power source. Of course, during these trips I'll typically also need to use my iPhone for calls, emails, GPS, and the occasional camera snapshot or music at the airport. The iPhone 5's battery is pretty good and can usually get me through a whole day of heavy travel use, but on a few recent trips (I do this about twice per month) I felt like I was cutting it close when at the end of the day I noticed that I had less than 15% battery remaining.

In general I prefer to use my iPhone "naked," without a case. In my opinion the phone was designed to have a particular form factor, feel in the hand, and slimness that a case destroys. Also I generally prefer to carry my iPhone in my pants pocket, which is one of the reasons why I prefer the iPhone 5 over other less slender phones. I'm a male and my typical "work uniform" is typically pants and a dress shirt without a jacket (most of the places I go are warm), so I don't really have a place to hide a large or heavy communication device on my person.

The Helium case promises to be the thinnest battery case ever made by Mophie, which is a good brand known for quality stuff that I have used and liked in the past. It's thinner than Mophie's other offerings, but I wouldn't call this a "thin" case by any means. In the case the iPhone 5 feels noticeably thicker and heavier, but it's not that bad. The phone still fits in my pocket in the case, and even though I wouldn't use this case as my daily driver (just for long days or trips), it is an acceptable trade-off for much improved battery life. The case is, for example, noticeably thinner and lighter than the "Air" option that Mophie offers for the iPhone 5, that product offers even more increased talk time etc. but at the expense of more heft and around 25% higher price. The Helium option is, in my opinion, a good value and a good compromise.

As a protective case the virtues of this product are less clear. It's very easy to put on (or take off) the phone, sliding together easily. It does protect the back, sides, top, and bottom of the phone. It does not interfere with the operation of the camera or its flash like some poorly designed cases do. It leaves the side buttons free, which I actually prefer because it preserves their tactile feel. It does not in my experience affect the call quality of the phone in any way. I found cellular reception on Verizon to be identical with or without the case on, and I found that the case's microphone pass-through did not affect callers' ability to hear my voice clearly as we would expect from a high-end smartphone like the iPhone 5. The case also appears designed to permit the iPhone's multiple noise-canceling microphones to work as designed. In the hand, the case is very ergonomic and easy to grip. It feels great to hold; in some circumstances such as while playing games I actually found it to be preferable because of the slightly wider landscape grip area and improved ability to hear the phone's speaker. Mophie claims that the case actually improves speakerphone audio quality and it seems that they might be correct. However, I am not sold on the protective aspects of this case as they relate to drops. Although the case does do an adequate job of covering the back and sides from scratches, the case does not appear to extend over the screen at all. Other cases I have owned like the OtterBox cases will at least have a "lip" on the front that enables you to put the phone face down without having it rest on the screen; this case does not seem to have a similar feature. Also I am concerned that the added weight of this case might actually exacerbate damage in the event of a fall. Also, one of my colleagues owns this same case and has noticed that the material has begun peeling in a few of the corners because, in his words, he is "too rough with it" when putting it in and out of his pant pockets. I have not experienced this cosmetic issue yet, but it's something to think about if you're not careful with your devices.

The battery in the case is excellent. On yesterday's business trip, despite much more use of the phone than usual (or frankly necessary -- I was intentionally hard on it), I was unable to drain the battery even halfway after many hours of sustained intentionally heavy use, including a marathon gaming session of Infinity Blade II on the plane. I recommend using Mophie's included tips for getting the most out of your battery case (keep the case in "standby" until your iPhone's internal battery reaches 20%, then switch it on until you charge up to 80%, then go back to standby and repeat). The case did get a little warm while it was charging my iPhone but that did not bother me. I appreciated the security of knowing that I could use the phone almost twice as much as I normally could.

The bottom of the case has a micro-USB port for charging and includes an appropriate cable. While the case is on, it is not possible to use the iPhone's integrated Lightning port. My car has an iPhone dock with a Lightning port, and this is not able to be used with my phone while the case is on. I find this pretty disappointing. Then again, during long road trips the car's audio port would be charging the iPhone anyway and so there would be no need for the Mophie case. I still think this is a disadvantage because it is somewhat of an inconvenience to be forced to continually remove and put on the case. Some folks have complained about the recessed audio port and the occasional need for the included adapter but I did not find this to be a problem. I mean, if you do have a pair of headphones that doesn't fit, the adapter is included right in this product's box.

The quality of the product and its packaging seem to be first rate. This is a licensed "Made for iPhone" product and it shows, through and through. The unboxing experience is hassle-free and easy. Dare I say it even smells like an Apple product when you open it. The attention to detail is good. The product feels like a high quality item and you can tell that it is designed to safely and correctly work with the iPhone. Despite its limitations, I recommend it.

5Very Satisfactory For My Usage
By J H Murphy
I was in Las Vegas airport, which is pretty well supplied with outlets for charging, when I discovered that I had misplaced my iPhone charger and Lightning cable! I located an electronics supply kiosk among the slot machines and had a choice: buy another jejeune Apple charger and cable for about forty dollars, or this, which I had never seen before.

Did I mention that I really, really needed to make a lot of phone calls because my flight was delayed? And my ride home from the airport had to bail, so I needed to arrange for a shuttle?

Being a bit of a gadget addict, I bought this, and it completely met my needs that night.

So...thoughts on usage. I originally intended this to be an emergency purchase, but it is so useful that I have used it consistently since buying it. I don't have to check the iPhone charge all the time.

One huge additional benefit is that the Mophie uses a standard mini-USB cable, rather than the custom iPhone Lightning connector. I don't know what your luck has been, but I have broken four of them (two genuine Apple and two off-brand). In less than a year. So having a charger which uses a much cheaper generic cable will probably save me the cost of the Mophie over the life of the iPhone, unless Lightning cable reliability improves.

The unit has a very conformal fit on my iPhone 5. I would have preferred a stickier finish, like gel cases, to minimize sliding. I don't listen to music much on the iPhone, but the Mophie case re-directs the sound so that it provides more volume than the iPhone without the case in most positions.

I don't use headphones and the adapter cable is not an issue for me. YMMV.

I also rarely synchronize my iPhone with anything...iCloud makes that less vital nowadays. Again, YMMV.

So...battery life is extended, the case is very little larger than iPhone itself, I am freed from reliance on the Lightning cable...what's not to like? Five stars.

5No, those are NOT rebranded first-gen Sanyo eneloop cells
By NLee the Engineer
I have previously tested the original AmazonBasics NiMH Precharged Rechargeable Batteries (in black wrappers) back in 2011. Recently I purchased a set of those new AmazonBasics NiMH Pre-Charged Rechargeable Batteries (in white wrappers), because people kept asking me: "Are those rebranded 1st-gen Sanyo eneloop batteries?" Based on my observations so far, the short answer is "NO". But wait, don't leave yet!

I measured the capacities of those AmazonBasics AAA batteries, using my La Crosse BC1000 charger. Here are my findings:
- Right out of the package, the average remaining charge is 562mAh, or 70% of the rated '800mAh' capacity.
- After one recharge/discharge cycle, the average capacity jumped to 797mAh.
- After another 2-3 more cycles, the average capacity leveled off at 821mAh

The above behavior is consistent with my previous test results for original (1000-cycle) eneloop, 2nd-gen (1500-cycle) eneloop and 3rd-gen (1800-cycle) eneloop cells. Note that just as in this case with AmazonBasics cells, all eneloop cells are charged to around 70% when they left factory.

Based on electrical characteristics, I believe that those white AmazonBasics cells are indeed rebranded Sanyo eneloop cells. But it is impossible to tell whether they are in fact 1st- or 2nd-generation eneloop. This is because to the end-user, there are no measureable performance differences between 1st, 2nd or even 3rd-generation eneloop cells beside their cycle life claims.

Because of the '1000-cycle' claim, most people would jump to the conclusion that white AmazonBasics cells are equivalent to 1st-gen Sanyo eneloop. My closer examination, however, suggested that they are more likely to be rebranded SECOND-generation eneloop instead.

Please refer to the picture I uploaded to 'Customer Images' section. Look closely at the positive terminals of those three types of batteries, and you'll notice the difference in their so-called 'vent holes' (the name is misleading because those openings are not actually used for venting):

In the case of AAA cells:
- First-gen eneloop AAA cell has triangular-shaped vent holes
- Second-gen eneloop AAA has vent holes with rounded tops
- White AmazonBasics AAA has vent holes with rounded tops

In the case of AA cells:
- First-gen eneloop AA cell has triangular-shaped vent holes
- Second-gen eneloop AA has no vent holes
- White AmazonBasics AA has no vent holes

Therefore based on their mechanical aspects, I have to say those white AmazonBasics cells are most likely rebranded 2nd-gen Sanyo eneloop cells.

Why would Amazon intentionally sell rebranded 1500-cycle eneloop cells as just 1000-cycle? The answer is Price Differentiation. Manufacturers often de-spec a product when it is sold under different brand at a lower price. Otherwise it will erode the market for their higher-priced brand.

What if I'm wrong and those AmazonBasics cells are 'only' 1000 cycles? Well, you could find out the difference in... TEN years. So for now, just pick whichever brand is on sale and be happy.

5Works just as well as my Eneloops for a little less money
By Lenny
I've been using NiMH batteries since I got my first digital camera, and I've been using NiMH since the Sanyo Eneloops became widely available. I've used them in my digital camera (Nikon Coolpix 950), with my LED flashlights, with my external camera flash, and with my handheld GPS receivers. Even though they are not meant for low drain devices, the low self discharge batteries can usually be used in wireless mouse or a clock. And the low self discharge nature means that I can charge up a set and keep them as spares for months without worrying that they'll be flat when I need them.

So the question is, how do they compare against the king of low self discharge batteries, the Sanyo Eneloop?

Fresh out of the packaging, and after two recharge cycles, they compare very well - I did not do a scientific test of timing how long they last, but using it in my GPS receiver on hikes, they last about 10% - 20% longer than my 1 year old Eneloops. Not only that, according to the GPS receiver's battery meter, the voltage drops slower than the Eneloops. The Eneloops are older, so that's not a big surprise, but I'd say the performance is at least equal to, and possibly better than, the Eneloops when they were brand new. I've only used them for a month, so that's hardly enough time to test how they hold up over time. I have Eneloops that I've been using for almost 6 years now (Amazon records show that I ordered them on December 18, 2007), and although they do exhibit some capacity loss, they still have enough capacity to be useful. Will these last as long? Will their capacity hold up? Time will tell.

I also purchased some of the older black and green AmazonBasics pre-charged NiMH AA, but I haven't had a chance to use them yet. I'll update the review with a comparison when I do. But they're currently the same price, so there's no reason to get that over this if the price is the same.

The only difference in the paper specs between this and the current generation of Eneloop batteries, these state a 1000 cycle lifetime while the Eneloops state a 1500 cycle lifetime. For my application, this is not significant, as I only need to recharge them every 1 to 2 weeks. If you need to recharge them daily, they would last about 2.5 years, compared to 4 years for the Eneloop. If they only need to be recharged once a week, that's 19 years. I'm 100% sure the chemistry of the cells will break down way before then.

My Eneloops typically arrive with about 75% of the charge. These arrive with close to 100% (according to the battery meter of my GPS receiver) but that's because it is a new product and have not been sitting on the shelves for long. Mine didn't have a manufacture date stamped on it either, probably because they are review samples.

The batteries are supposed to be pre-charged with solar energy. I treat that as a gimmick. There's no way for me to verify the claim, and in the overall scheme of things, makes no difference. The energy it takes to manufacture these far outweigh the little amount required to charge them once.

I've been giving advice regarding batteries on online forums for years now, I'll just give a summary here. Almost all devices will take NiMH in place of alkaline batteries. Even though the voltage is 1.2V compared to 1.5V, when a battery supplies current to a device, the voltage will drop. The larger the current, the more the voltage drops. The voltage drops more for alkaline batteries because they have a higher internal resistance. When used in a camera flash, for example, you will find that not only will the NiMH last longer than alkaline batteries, the flash takes less time to recharge after it has been fired, because the NiMH can supply more current.

Does it make economic sense to use rechargeable batteries? Do the math yourself. You need a good charger (such as a LaCrosse BC700, BC1000 or Maha PowerEx MH-C9000 - about $50) and enough batteries for at least 1 set of spares. It paid for itself several times over for me, but everybody's situation is different.

3Good, not great
By TFry
I agree with other reviewers that these batteries seem to be re-branded Eneloop batteries.

Eneloop batteries are great high-quality batteries in my experience, which make these AmazonBasics a good solid choice.

That said, most of these AmazonBasics do not perform at the stated specifications. I ordered 2 packs of AA's and 2 packs of AAA's. For the AA's only 1 out of 8 achieved the minimum 1900mAh while the other 7 were below in the 1800mAh range. For the AAA's 2 out of 8 achieved the minimum 750mAh and the others were below in the 700mAh range. All tested out of the box with a La Crosse charger.

So these AmazonBasics are clearly lower quality Eneloop's, which are still good batteries though.

Overall these are a good choice for lower demanding usages, but I will continue to buy Eneloops for higher demanding applications.

Gave 3 stars because even though they are good batteries, Amazon should make sure AmazonBasics branded items meet their specifications, these do not.
