5Benq 1080st review
By Sally Ortiz
I have been searching for a projector since last black Friday. Over the past year I have had many models reach the top of my list. I did extensive research on all products, 3d glass, cables ect.... The end result was my purchase of the Benq 1080st. I can honestly say it was one of the best purchases of my life. It will truely change the way you watch TV or movies. I use it everyday for TV viewing and 3D movies. I have it about 7 feet from the wall and it displays about 140 inches. Think about that for a second....140 inches of 1080p glory.

Set up:
Very easy (took maybe 10min, most was moving calbe wires and stuff).
Anyone semi familar with an HD TV should have no problems navigating the menu on the Benq. Changing the colors, brightness and contrast will seem familar. Setting the lamp to the power setting is too easy (econo is still bright enough to use for everything). Setting the zoom and adjusting the focus is easy and fun to play around with. As with most other reviews I would highly recommend an additional sound system of some type.

Picture Quality:
The TV I replaced was a 46inch Samsung. I can honestly say this has a better picture. It is bright, crisp and clear. If you have some form of Comcast (Xfinity) most show are displayed in 720p. That is no fault of the benq but the original broadcast signal. Still looks really good. Any 3d movie rental on comcast is displayed in 1080i. That looks very close to movie theater 3D. Bluray and Bluray 3D display at 1080p. When I saw the picture for the first time in 1080p 3d, I laughed in hysteria because I could not believe my eyes! It was amazing! The nice thing about the benq is that every time you either change a channel or switch inputs, on the top left of the display it show the input source and image (720p, 1080i or 1080p). That is how I discovered Comcast was broadcasting in 720p and quick call in confrimed this. However you watch or whatever you watch the picture is going to be bright. Adjust the colors alittle and you have a great looking movie theater in your house.

The Benq 1080st projector itself:
Very good quality. The unit feels very well built. It looks nice and sleek. The fan noise to me is almost non-existant. It not nearly as loud as an Xbox 360. It does have a fan to keep everything cool and I would say it is not even as loud as a computer. Really it is a non issue. All the correct inputs are there. I even had a conversation with my friend on how the Benq must have been made so there would be no issues. The people at Benq must really looked at every customer complaint before making the 1080st. It is very impressive.

3D quality:
Very good. At first in to be very honest I was not too impressed. Then I adjusted the brightness down and contrast up, changed the gamma level and adjusted the CMYK color levels up by 12 on each.....my jaw dropped (changing these setting is very easy to do). It has good depth and is very clear. I bought the rechargable 3D glasses and would highly recommend them. The screen does have a red hue when your glasses are not on and 3D is playing, agian a non-issue. It is simply amazing lifting the glasses up on your face and then putting them back down and seeing how the 3D works. Regular boradcast 3D in 720p is not bad at all and if you do plan on gettig a 3D bluray play you will be amazed. No reason to ever to the movies again. I found myself constantly talking through the movie on how great it looked and how it doesnt seem fair to have this in my house.

Overall this is worth every penny. Every single person that has been lucky enough (lol) to see this in my house thinks I spent at least 5k on this projector. Thats what you get from Benq: big picture small price. I have read hundreds of reviews before my purchase of the 1080st. All I have to say is read this review and then buy it. You will be very happy you did. Enjoy!!

5My First, and I Love It
By Douglas L. Engelhardt
This is my first personal projector, otherwise I've only seen other people's and the ones I buy for work presentation setups. But I have to say, in my opinion it is absolutely fantastic, clear crisp picture that even manages to ignore nearly all the light pollution that comes from the door of my split level, the only exception is when the scene is super dark/black for obvious reason, if there is any real light to the scene, you really cant tell.

Like I said, the image is sharp a vivid, great brightness, everything just looks right, I pretty much feel like I have a 100in TV on my wall. Absolutely love the short throw, I have a moderately small man cave and on top of that I wanted to be able to do motion stuff with kinect, wii, etc. so I needed to be able to keep movements from getting in the way, mission accomplished, I can stand 4ft from my screen and not be in the way of the projection, giving me plenty of space to move around.

Other Notes:
+Runs very near silent, the only time I notice the fan is when there is nothing else to hear.
+Never used the built in speaker so can't comment but others make it sound like its decent, really though, if you're doing something like this, don't cheat yourself using built in speakers, get a real setup, even if its only like 2.1 or 3.1 or even just a sound bar(they make some pretty good ones these days).
+As others will tell you, adjustments are to account for angels etc are very limited so be careful and get it right.
+I don't feel I notice any of the classic projector visual oddities, I have a pretty nice fixed frame screen from Elite Screens. Check them out, good quality/price and they really aren't that hard to get put together. Manual isn't always 100% clear so be careful but its still pretty good.
+Haven't picked up glasses yet. Looking at some after I finish this review.

5Bring movie theater at your home..
By Amit
This is my first review on Amazon. Although, I keep buying many items from Amazon and I really liked few of them and were worth giving 5 star rating, none of the item impressed me so much to write a review. But I am so much impressed with this buy that I decided to write my 1st review.

I have already used Vivitek Qumi Q2 and IncrediSonic LED projectors. These are very small size portable projectors with long lasting LED lamp. Although these projectors project good quality image, they can not produce vivid colors. I use to feel like I am watching old days Eastman color movie.
LED technology in projector has still long way to get mature. For this reason, I decided to buy normal lamp projector even though such projectors are not very portable and requires costlier lamp replacements.

After about 2 months research I finalized buying either BENQ W1070 or W1080ST. Both projectors are same except throw distance. Finally I ordered W1080ST.
I got this projector on 23-Jan. It is manufactured in Nov-13 and has FirmWare ver. 1.04. It has backlit(red color) remote.

Here is my observation

1) Image quality is EXCELLENT with vivid colors and as good as what you see in movie theater. I am not using any screen and projecting image on bare wall.

2) Brightness is very good and I can watch movie with few lights on. But with all lights switched off, I feel like I am watching 120 inch LED TV.
Even in movie theater all lights are switched off for better viewing experience. So, do not set your expectations to unrealistic levels. LCD/LED TVs will always have better brightness than projector image.

I always use Smart Eco mode with brightness level 55 and than is more than enough.

3) Projector speaker produce loud enough sound and I am still using it while watching movies. But watching a 120 inch screen with inbuilt speaker is not a good idea and I plan to buy sound system to get a real movie theater feeling. If I connect projector to laptop using VGA cable then sound do not come from projector speaker(it will be from laptop speakers). If I use my chromecast then sound comes from projector speakers.

4) Projector keeps track of lamp hours used and you acn see it in menu.

Do not listen to professional reviewers who criticize this projector for light leakage, fan noise, rainbow effect. Earning bread and butter by criticizing every good product is their job.

5) My observation is that there is minute amount of light leakage but this projector produces image which is 1000 times brighter than leaked light and I won't notice leaked light even in dark scene.

6) Fan noise is very minimum. My laptop fan produces more fan noise than projector. Maybe projectors which are manufactured in Nov-13 might have lesser fan noise.

7) After watching 100 hrs of movies, I have not yet seen rainbow effect.

8) Remote works fine and it is not necessary to point remote at projector to operate it. Remote has "Light" button on right side and when I press this button entire remote gets illuminated with backlit red color light. Then I can see and press whatever button I want to use. This is nice feature till the time I get familiar with button locations.

I wish BENQ had provided USB port on this projector. They provided all kinds of input/slots but forget to provide a USB port. My Chromecast needs USB power and I have to keep laptop nearby to provide power to it. Projector has Mini USB B port and I need to check if I can power up Chromecast using mini USB B to USB female connector.

Finally, I am Very Happy with this purchase. The last time I was so happy when I was teenager and my father gifted me motor bike.
I already have recommended this projector to many of my colleagues.

3Pleased and puzzled at the same time
By Dmitry Kan
I did not have original Galaxy Gear, so my impression is not comparative. I like hardware a lot. It feels comfortable on the wrist - not too heavy, not wobbly. Clasp is excellent. Took all of 3 seconds to adjust it just right. I also like the fact that you can easily re-adjust it at any time. You know how in the morning sometimes your wrist is a bit bloated and watch strap becomes too tight? Not a problem here. Watch has a very minimalistic and classy look to it. Nothing extra, brushed metal look is very subtle and solid. I was amazed how accurately screen comes on when you raise your wrist to look at it. And only when you look at it. No false activation and when you do look at it watch responds promptly with 100% accuracy. No need to do anything unnatural. Excellent!
Camera is surprisingly good. In daylight. After dusk it does not pick up anything. At all. Just black screen. But daylight pictures look almost the same as the ones taken with my Galaxy Note 3 on Note's screen. Of course, if you zoom in you will see difference. But for all kinds of quick snapshots - cute moments, notes, parked car location - it will work swimmingly.
Screen is a pure delight. Has brightness levels 1-6. 4 is default and is very bright. You can turn it up to 6 and it can blind you even under the brightest sunlight. Neat thing - watch will reverse back to level 4 brightness after 5 minutes of inactivity.
I don't know if it was the case with original Gear, and I have not seen it mentioned anywhere about Gear 2, but charging cradle is not just for charging. If you connect it to USB port you will get yourself a flash drive. With 2.81G of space. Unlike Android devices all system folders are hidden. So I don't know if one can sideload 3rd party apps. You just have "Music", "Sounds", "Images", "DCIM", "Videos" and "Downloads" folders.
Now the things that puzzled me. WHERE ARE ALL THE APPS??? Besides the ones preloaded on the watch Samsung App store offers "whopping" 18 apps. That's right. Not 100+ as Samsung claimed, not even "dozens" as some reviewers claimed. Maybe I am missing something. I am not a "XDA developer", but not a novice either. I am no stranger to custom ROMs and sideloading 3rd party apps. But with switch to Tizen Samsung shut off Google Play store.
Watch doesn't even have an alarm. It can only show you notifications from alarm clock running on your phone or tablet. I am a big fan of analog watch faces, but need to have a little date window as well. No luck here.
I think all necessary hardware is here. But software part is not just under-baked - it is pretty much nonexistent. Where is promised Evernote, CNN, Expedia, eBay? What happened? All developers bailed and went to write for Google Wear?
I am going to give it a month till my return period expires. I love the hardware - but I need software to support it.

4Decent upgrade for second generation
By iwin2000
I received my new Gear 2 last Saturday morning via USPS, three days after ordering from a third party seller. I decided to order from a third party seller earlier in the week due to the fact that Amazon was still "Temporarily out of stock" on this item with no updates in over a week on when they'd get their stock and start shipping to customers. I had originally ordered from Amazon around a week prior and they still hadn't shipped or updated me at all, so I cancelled the order afterwards because I had no information on when Amazon would have the Gear 2 in stock. Being a Prime customer, it was upsetting that I had to "resort" to purchasing from a third party seller since usually shipping times are much longer. I expected better service and more specific communication from Amazon, especially since the demand for this product was so extensive. Luckily though, it seems that I made a lucky choice of third party seller to buy from because they shipped same-day and the product was packed safely and securely and arrived in about 3 days.

Something important to note is that some sellers are currently selling the Gear 2 for around $320. People avoid these prices, believing they are overpriced, not realizing that Amazon applies sales tax in most states only for items purchased from Amazon directly, which would have made the total cost rise to around $320 at checkout. In this case, there was pretty much no downside purchasing from a third party seller considering there was no estimate for when Amazon would receive their stock, so I decided to make my move and purchased from a seemingly reliable seller. It's also important to note that customers purchasing from third party sellers are exempt from sales tax if the customer resides outside of the seller's state. So, the Gear 2 was around the same price no matter where I purchased from.

Anyways, after having used the Gear 2 for a few days, my thoughts and views are overall positive. Something I found odd was, being in the Computer Science field and having done extensive online research before purchasing, I quickly realized that my views and experience with the Gear 2 hardly matched what negative comments were being spread by the media in news articles, reviews, and opinions and commentaries throughout the past week. The media's stories focused on the belief that the Gear 2 added no benefit and didn't provide any increased functionality due to the fact that it didn't offer anything "special" and didn't provide any extra functionality that couldn't be found on a typical smartphone. Various news articles blatantly state that buying a Gear 2 was a huge waste money.

I took these articles like a grain of salt. I saw the arguments mostly as opinions than anything else, I wanted to test it for myself and make up my own mind, and that's exactly what I did.

At first use, it was really easy to notice the key benefit of the Gear 2, the fact that it's an incredible time saver. Smartphones are not very when you're on the go, because they aren't generally something you can just glance at without diverting your attention entirely towards it temporarily. If this is at work, smartphone use negatively affects your productivity. If this is while driving, smartphones are unsafe and illegal because they take attention completely off the road.

For me, increase in time efficiency is the most important and obvious benefit offered by using the Gear 2. Unlike others, I don't care that the Gear 2 replicates smartphone functionality because of the aforementioned benefit. That doesn't make it any less of a useful device. What makes the Gear 2 useful is the fact that information that would have taken me 20 to 30 seconds to access on my smartphone can be accessed in just a couple seconds on the Gear 2 with a simple tilt of the wrist, swipe and tap. The Gear 2 clearly me saves time and effort, and it's shown me that it's an extremely handy device that has incredible potential.

Anyways...enough of me defending the Gear 2, that's not the purpose of reviews.

I've gotten in the habit of wearing the Gear 2 almost 24/7. I even keep it on while going to bed since it has so many uses. Just as a series of examples, right before bed, the Gear 2 allows me to: start tracking my sleep time, to set alarms for next morning just by speaking, check my appointments and calendar for tomorrow as well as the weather forecast, and replace the need to track down the TV remote control when I want to watch a late-night show right before bed.

Looking back, I can see that the Gear 2 has helped keep me on track, focused, and organized since I started using it. You've got to push yourself to improve though, you can't expect improvement otherwise. However, the Gear 2 seems like a Swiss Army knife in the form of a tech gadget. There are just so many features and so much beneficial functionality included just via the default Samsung apps, and these apps completely fulfilled my expectations and personally justify the expense.

Now, for the negative remark of my review, and as to why I took off a star.

Although Samsung provides excellent built-in apps, I'm sure there is a huge potential for development of even better, more beneficial apps. The possibilities are endless for user-developed apps. Unfortunately however, the major downside right now is that user-submitted apps are pretty much non-existent in the Gear 2 market. The reason for this is that the Tizen OS, which the Gear 2 runs on, has still been left largely unembraced and unsurpassed by most mobile app devs. This whole situation is upsetting since the lack of apps for the Gear 2 takes away from the device's potential and its ability for users to customize the app to fit their needs most closely. I honestly didn't expect the app store to literally have less than total 15 apps in the entire market, none of which are really any good at all. That's not the quality that I expected from Samsung. It seems like Samsung dropped the ball by not succeeding in stimulating the early adoption of Tizen by developers.

Although I feel the lack of apps is a mistake on Samsung's part that could maybe have been avoided by better planning, being knowledgeable about the Tizen situation I'm also sympathetic because it makes sense to me why there are almost no apps developed. The Gear 2 line of devices are essentially Samsung's first mainstream products to make use of their Tizen OS. Not many people have experience with how the OS works yet and people are just starting to become more acquainted with development for Tizen. In time, I don't have much doubt that developers will embrace Tizen, because where there's money to be made, they will come.

However, as someone who purchased a Gear 2 so early on, it's unfortunate that people like me need to wait, who knows how long, in order for the atmosphere to improve for Tizen.

Although it's not a deal breaker for me, for others who consider the current lack of user-made apps a much greater issue, I can see why they wouldn't be able to justify the expense until they start to see a community thriving around Gear 2 development.

Some further negatives that I feel are noteworthy for prospective buyers:

- The Gear 2 frame that covers the front face of the watch is aluminum, but the bottom half of the watch is actually a black plastic cover. Based on a description, I had expected that the entire watch exterior would be made of aluminum and I was disappointed when I saw the plastic bottom as it is more easily damaged.

- The Gear 2 expects to be firmly and statically strapped to your wrist, otherwise while operating the touchscreen by swiping fingers, you'll make the watch perform loops around your wrist, which starts getting annoying pretty quickly.

- The IR sensor's location being in the front-middle is slightly awkward to aim at the TV. It's something about having to tilt my wrist and tap on the screen with the other hand that just feels uncomfortable. It takes getting used to. In Samsung's defense I can't really think of a better place to put it to make it universally compatible with however a person enjoys wearing their watch. Same with the camera.

- Flicking left and right can sometimes be noticeably laggy. I expected better performance from the 1.0ghz dual core processor/512MB RAM and didn't expect to see basic swiping animations lag so noticeably. I suppose I'm so used to my smartphone operating seamlessly without any slow-downs or lag, that I was not used to the slower animations on the Gear 2 hardware. Note that although there is noticeable lag, it barely impacts usability in any way at all.

As a final note, nothing is ever 100% perfect, and there's always room for improvement.
For the current state I'm very satisfied with the progress Samsung has made with its Gear smartwatch line of products. The Gear 2 is well worth the money and I highly recommend it due to its elegant aesthetics, faster hardware, and software which offers useful features with an easy to follow and very functional user interface.

I'll continue to update my review if there's anything important to mention in the future that people should know, either positive or negative. Thanks for taking the time to read my thoughts, I welcome any questions or comments based on what I said.

5Pure "awesomeness" for a tech savvy person, 5-stars Samsung!
By Rob T.
I was an early adopter of the Gear 1 and surprisingly I fell in love with the product rather quickly. Mind you I was never a watch person - so I was skeptical whether or not I would like it. There's a few reasons I learned to enjoy the first version and upgraded to the Gear 2.

1) If my phone is in my pocket, bag, or another room, I can see who was calling or texting and answer, delay, or reply from my watch.

2) My favorite thing to do is to change the watch face color and design for the holiday, season or event. I can even change the watch face to match my shirt color for the day. Waiting for the full watch styler for the Gear 2...

3) Phone Locator. Yes, sometimes I misplace my phone. The gear had a phone finder feature which surprisingly came in handy on an occasion or two.

4) Style. In my opinion it looks sharp. I am a business professional and I think it looks great with a suit.

5) Safety. Going back to number 1. While driving, I don't have to fumble around for a phone. I can see who is calling and answer in a split second - eyes on the road. To me, that was worth the $300 price of admission by itself.

6) Watch of course! I will not wear a regular watch that simply tells time; that is not enough. However when my watch answers calls, makes calls, reads texts, changes face themes to match my shirt color, takes my heart rate, acts as a mini personal trainer, snaps pictures, records quick voice notes, has a television remote, includes a stand-alone Bluetooth music player, and has easily switchable bands, now we're talking about something I'll wear every day (and it just so happens to tell me the time and date).

Price note: This version of the watch is $300, if you must have the brushed aluminum and the camera. For me, I didn't mind spending the extra dough. For someone who feels (and reviews) $300 is a bit steep - there is the Neo version! Kudo's to Samsung for creating a less expensive version for those not comfortable at this price point.

Bottom line: I enjoyed the Gear 1 and with the additional new improvements, I'm very pleased to own a Gear 2. I find it very useful on a day to day basis!

3Only a 1C charge rate -- there are better options
By Kirby Miller
These are identical to the one that came with the Phantom. I bought three more before I realized there were better options. If you are using the standard (SLOW) charger that came with the Phantom and don't mind waiting so long for a charge then these are fine.

Otherwise I strongly recommend the Hyperion batteries (specifically made for the Phantom). Those will charge at a rate of 6C !!! and are also 2500mA (more capacity than this 2200mA battery). They can also be charged with your standard charger until you can get something better. I use a Dynamite Prophet charger and charge 4 of the Hyperions at once at 8 amps each! That means 4 2500mA batteries charged, balanced, and ready to fly in about 30 minutes. That charger is pretty pricey, about $265 but worth it if you use it a lot.

The Hyperion batteries are only about $35 each but I don't think Amazon sells them. Not sure. I got those at a local hobby store. I don't use these standard Phantom batteries any more. I just keep them as extras if I go on a trip.

________________________________

UPDATE:

Actually all the Hyperions I have bought are now puffed (some after only one or two uses). I am definitely not overcharging them, or over-draining them. Only thing I can figure is that I have stored them fully charged, which I know you are not supposed to do, but sometimes I charge all my batteries, go out on a trip and only end up using one or two batteries. I'm not going to discharge all the batteries when I get home. I just don't have time to deal with that. And all my original DJI batteries are stored exactly the same way (fully charged) and still function as new so I have gone back to those for now. Definitely looking (again) for something better but not so sensitive to being stored at exactly the right voltage.

3will do but has a low charge rating & high priced
By An Engineer
There are better yet cheaper options its a matter of looking at the specifications. To find a match we must look at ...

* 3 cell LiPo requirement
* 2200 mah at least
* 20c discharge rating at least
* XT60 connector
* same size and weight

Here is one that will do the trick and has a faster charge rate of 2C. No modifications and a direct fit for around $20:
Turnigy 2200mAh 3S 20C Lipo Pack HobbyKing RC Battery

A faster charger would also be important, one that can support a 2C ratting which means one that can support 2C x 2200mah = 4.4 amps like this one:
Fast LiPo Battery Balance Charger - 40 Watt - 4.5 Amp - 1 2 3 or 4 cell batteries - Connectors included for the DJI Phantom

or if you have a need to charge multiple batteries at the same time check out this charging station:
40 watt fast LiPo battery balance chargers (x5) with carrying case for the DJI Phantom batteries

Happy Shopping!

Ever since I got my first GorillaPod, which was back when they first came out, I've been a fan of the products. Still have it, and it still works great. So when I saw this one, I decided to go ahead and pick it up. It doesn't disappoint. Each of the phones I put in it fit snugly, held in place by the spring action arms. Even when intentionally shaken about, they devices did not slip or fall out. Getting the phones in and out of the grip arms is easy and quick. True to the original, the GripTight is, at its core, a camera tripod. The grip arms are just an (attachment with is being sold mated to the JOBY JB01249-0EN GorillaPod Original. So, I was able to unscrew the attachment and attach the stand to my cameras. Very much worth the purchase price and cheaper than buying each piece individually.

3separate the parts
By Eric L
First of all I'd like to say that I think the actual attachment to this is overpriced. I got this so that I could run timelapses on my phone and even though I already had a gorilla pod and just wanted the attachment, I got the full kit because it was only $5 more to get the whole new gorilla pod base. Now I know why. If you don't already have a gorilla pod, this is a good buy, however, the stand that comes with this is not the same as the original gorilla pod. Its a much cheaper version. It still works but it's lighter, thinner, and doesn't seem as durable. The top part is perfect for holding my phone. Even with a fairly large case, it still holds it perfectly. It folds down to a very slim profile. I would recommend this product, just not at the $25 price.

5Perfect tripod for phones
By M. Pearce
This little tripod has a few possibilities. I bought it so I could do time-lapse movies with my Android phone. It can double as a phone stand on your desk, or anywhere you need to mount your phone for convenience. The part that holds your phone is detachable, and the tripod can be used with anything that has the standard female threaded mount, like found on cameras. My only concern is losing the phone bracket at some point.

3Great drive - Faulty USB cable

Over the recent years I have purchased quite a number of these drives. I have a couple of USB 2.0 drives and about 12 of the USB 3.0 drives. They all performed flawlessly with my old computer. I purchased that computer in 2006 before these USB 3.0 drives existed and so the computer had only USB 2.0 ports. All the USB 3.0 drives worked perfectly in the computer with the USB 2.0 ports.

Then in December 2012 I purchased a new computer and it has USB 3.0 ports. I connected a drive and was anticipating the "blazing speed" for file transfers. But there was a problem...

The drive would lose connection and I would get an error message saying that the transfer did not complete and data was lost etc., etc.

I contacted the computer manufacturer and they claimed it was a Western Digital problem. I thought they were just passing the buck, but I did some research and found that there are very many complaints all over the Internet about the Passport USB 3.0 drives losing connections. The descriptions were fairly consistent: it happened most frequently when transferring large amounts of data (such as 2 Gb, for example).

There were two theories:
(1) The Passport drive uses only a single USB connection and therefore it draws all power through that USB port. The USB port, being compliant with the USB 3.0 protocol, does not provide enough power for the drive to spin the hard disk fast enough for the data transfer at USB 3.0 speeds. That results in the errors and lost connection.
(2) The USB cables from Western Digital are defective.

So I thought I'd test theory (2) first. I got on Amazon and found a seller for a compatible USB 3.0 cable, ordered it, received it, plugged it in - and the drive works just fine. I selected a folder that had a large amount of data (8.4 Gb) and copied it to my C drive - no problem. I copied it back and forth several times and it always worked (with "blazing speed", I might add - 100 Mb per sec - WHEW!!). I tried different drives - they all worked just like I expected. That seemed to confirm to me that the cables were defective in some way.

I called Western Digital support. The Technical Support person sounded happy to help me. I described the problem to him. The first reply was that the support person put me on hold to discuss it with his supervisor. He came back and thanked me for bringing it to their attention and asked if there was anything else he could do. I said, "Yes - you can replace the cables." I have 7 drives that are still within the warranty period, so I would expect a replacement for at least those drive cables.

After discussing with his supervisor again, he said only one cable could be replaced. I said that was not acceptable. He said it was a problem with the system that would not allow him to process more than one. I said that was not my problem and I expected to get the cables replaced for at least the drives that are in warranty or I would become a Seagate customer. He spoke with his supervisor again and said he could do it. I guess his supervisor must have somehow fixed the problem with the system.

Anyway, he said I would be receiving replacement cables. I asked if they would be the same identical cables which would also not work. He discussed with his supervisor - again - and said I would be receiving y-cables. At that I explained to him that this indicates to me that Western Digital has identified the cause of the problem to be a power issue - that not enough power is being pulled from using just one USB port. He said, yes that was correct.

I asked what I should do when I need a new drive and the market is filled with product that was shipped with the inadequate cables. Am I supposed to just wait until that inventory sells off or should I instead buy Seagate drives... He said I can buy a Western Digital drive and call them right away. They will send a replacement y-cable. He didn't sound very happy at this point.

Note that when I first called Western Digital, the response was to appear like they had never heard of this before and to just blow me off.
After I pressed, the next response was to try to mollify me with just a single replacement cable.
Finally, they essentially admitted that they knew all about this all along and also had a solution that they never offered to me until I pressed hard.

So I still think Western Digital hard drives are among the best. But they have an identified, known, and confirmed defect in the USB 3.0 drive design (really just inadequate cables). Their response is to keep silent about it and hope people don't notice or just put up with it.

Therefore, I would have provided a 5-star rating for the drive, but because of the poor approach to Customer Service I knocked them down a couple of notches.

Shame on you Western Digital!! I place a lot of stock in the Customer Support a company gives, and in the honesty of the company to their customers. My confidence in you as a company is seriously undermined by this. Seagate may not be my provider for my drives at this point, and although I never seriously considered them before, I *AM* considering them seriously now.

Note this, Western Digital: I WAS a very satisfied customer. I continued to purchase drives even though I never posted an evaluation of the drives. Now I have become a somewhat dissatisfied customer and I have taken the time and made the effort to post this evaluation. Think about that...

5An essential storage backup tool in a digital world
By Techie
I'm a computer repair technician, and one issue I have all the time with my customers is, the famous, 'a virus hijacked my computer and those precious pictures are inside'. Yeah, the prom, the honeymoon, or the newborn pictures are usually held without ransom. Most of the time we are dealing with malware of some sort that affects the Windows operating system files, but leaves the data intact. So, before I repair the computer, I rescue the pictures, and any other file they might value. However, not all repair technicians do this, most allege that the files are corrupted, which might be the case, but usually it really means they are too busy to rescue anything, don't know how to do it, or will not do it unless paid big cash.

For one own's sakes, the best thing to do is backing up the data before the computer gets infected, or the hard drive fails. For pictures I recommend backing up the original files into data discs, but for faster everyday files backups (music, movies, games, software etc.) is better to use an external hard drive.

The Western Digital My Passport 2 TB is an awesome way to carry large amounts of data in a tiny container, that is always available and secure. I love its dimensions, both physically and in bytes.

Also, the truly fast data transfers done with the USB 3.0 interface save time every day. Speaking of the USB connector, another great feature is that only requires a single USB port for power, while many external hard drives and enclosures, with form factor 2.5", require two USB ports.

This drive is great not only to keep multimedia files, but also for storing documents in digital form, because it saves space. Besides, in case of an emergency it's faster to grab it then a folder. I've been doing backups using both hard drives and discs, and it has been of great help throughout the years. For example, the last time I moved, the new school district wanted my daughter first vaccines' records. I knew I have the original card somewhere in a box, but I needed it fast. Then I remembered I scanned the card years ago, and that print-scanned image, which was storage in my daughter's digital folder, inside my external hard drive, saved me hours of search and quickened her registering process at the new school.

About the WD SmartWare software offered by the manufacturer, I hesitated before going for it, because in the past WD back up software didn't work well for me. However, when one is dealing with such a big amount of data, doing it manually is a pain, and the alternative of using the backup and restore features included in Microsoft Windows 7, is something I would only do for a complete system image, not for the everyday backup. So, I installed the WD SmartWare software and so far, it's performing well, it does require time and attention to learn its functionality though. If you decide not to use the WD SmartWare, you can still use the hard drive right out of the box, like any other external hard drive.

Besides reading the user's manual, I strongly suggest that before plugging in the drive into your computer, you go to the Western Digital My Passport's support page, and read how to use it.

Because there are a few details to know before starting backing up your data. Among these topics, How to install WD SmartWare from the external drives, How to create a category backup using WD SmartWare, How to backup specific files and folders using WD SmartWare, How to retrieve a backup using WD SmartWare, Setting up security to lock or unlock a WD external drive with WD SmartWare, (videos are provided in some of these), and How to partition and format a WD drive on Windows (7, Vista, XP) and Mac OSX etc., etc.

I can't post links here, but one can do a search for WD Support / Downloads / My Passport and will find the page where a variety of software that works with the Western Digital My Passport 2 TB, can be downloaded for free.

However, the most important fact of reading Western Digital's support information for this drive, is to learn how to use it 'before' entrusting your valuable data to it. Specially, if you choose to install the WD SmartWare software.

There are very important steps everybody should know while setting up these drives, so it's clearly stated on the Western Digital's support pages.

For example, while installing the software, it will ask if you want to apply any security (password & encryption) to the drive. Before setting up the password you must check an, I understand box, certifying that you understood that if you forget the password, the data is unrecoverable. I repeat, and excuse the capitals, but this is crucial, IF YOU FORGET THE PASSWORD, THE DATA IS UNRECOVERABLE.

Since there is no way to retrieve your password if you forget it, please write that password in a secure available location. If you want, it's possible to change your security settings, remove security or/and change the password, but in order to do either, you still need the original password entered the first time.

If you forget your password, you will not be able to access the data storage in the hard drive, but you can continue to use the drive again if you format it. Of course, the process of reformatting the hard drive will erase all the data inside the unit, and remove the password.

I highly recommend the Western Digital My Passport 2 TB external hard drive.

I do have an warning though, the only proven and trusted way to preserve important files is to burn them into data discs (CD/DVD/Blu-rays). Because hard drives have a limited lifespan, and will fail sooner or later, usually without any warning signs. An external hard drive is very convenient to use, but the stuff that cannot be easily replaced, should always first be backed up on discs. Trust me, it will give you peace of mind. Also you can have two different hard drives with the same information, like I do. If you really don't want to keep discs around anymore.

5The PERFECT External Storage Drive For My Macbook Pro
By Ronald Epstein
Wow. So many mixed reviews here, and like those of you who are pondering over whether it is worth purchasing this Western Digital MY PASSPORT, there may not be a clear answer.

Let me tell you my story.

Recently bought the new Retina Macbook Pro with its 500GB SSD drive. For a person like me who puts a lot of software on my laptop and does quite a bit of movie editing, hard drive space is a premium. So, when figuring out how to handle nearly 200GB of music, I decided it would probably be best to run iTunes off an external drive instead of taking up space on the Macbook.

Again...Wow. Reading these reviews on Amazon was quite unnerving. So many great experiences with this drive followed up by a handful of negative experiences -- many talking of total hard drive failure. It's almost as if you are rolling the dice as to whether you'll receive a drive that works or doesn't.

...then there's the reviews from people who claim they are having problems using this drive on their Mac.

Well, I picked myself out a RED 1TB drive. Thought it was a cool color and didn't mind paying the premium price for it. In addition, I picked up this fantastic Case Logic QHDC-101 Hard Case on Amazon for $10. It's the perfect compliment to the red hard drive that fits snuggly inside.

Using the Western Digital MY PASSPORT on a Mac couldn't be easier than opening the package, plugging the USB cord into the Macbook, and then formatting it using Disk Utilities. From package to format took under 4 minutes.

And for anyone claiming to have a problem using this drive with their Mac, this is all you need to do...

1. Plug in the drive via USB connection
2. Go to APPLICATIONS -> UTILITIES -> DISK UTILITY
3. Click on the hard drive icon located at the very top left sidebar
4. Select the ERASE tab and FORMAT in Max OSX Extended (Journaled). Assign your drive a name if you wish.

That's it. Easy.

The drive works incredibly fast thanks to its USB 3.0 compatibility, which is backwards-compatible with USB 2.0. The drive is extremely quiet, and I didn't notice it getting warm.

And, yes, you can run your iTunes off the external drive.

4A soldier's perspective
By T. Thibou
I used these for two weeks before I chose to write this review. I am currently overseas and since I've received these they have been far more useful than I was hoping they would be. To negate some of the other comments I've seen, I have taken these headphones on 3,4 and 5 miles runs and there has only been a single time where one of the earbuds have come loose. They fit great. The controls on the wire are very easy to use and the headphones even talk to you and tell you whats happening. It will say "power on", "power off", it will tell you when it is pairing mode, and will also tell you when it successfully connects or if you wander to far from the transmitter and it disconnects. I havent exactly timed the battery but roughly 4 hours is correct. I live in a tent with 5 other people and at first we were fighting over people playing their music or movies too loud or their games too loud or anything else that made noise. These headphones were a blessing. I can put a movie on and still be able to clean and do whatever I need to do away from the screen while it plays. The signal reaches to all areas within my tent so I'm guessing about 25 feet? I start to lose it when I step outside. Whether that be from distance or just line of sight being lost through the tent fabric I'm not sure. I have also tried the "one in one out" with the headphone. I havent while running outside, but on a treadmill or just working out if you tuck the other one away and dont let it bounce around youll be fine. At first I got these to use with my phone(mp3 player) and computer but I ordered a bluetooth transmitter shortly after and now anything that uses a headphone jack can be transmitted to the headset. It is too easy, and it's well worth the money I spent on it.

4Great sound and easy to use
By Ed
I'm a headphone buff and I've also had more than a dozen Bluetooth headsets over the years. However, I haven't used many Bluetooth stereo earphones, so I was very excited to give the BackBeat GO 2 a try.

PROS:
- Very good sound quality for Bluetooth
- Good bass response
- Easy to pair and use
- Sweat/water resistant
- Pair up to 8 devices

CONS:
- Poor battery life
- Cable can snag on your neck during workouts

COMFORT
The BackBeat GO 2 (BBG2) weighs just 14 grams and is reasonably comfortable to wear. My ears did ache a little and felt itchy after wearing them for a couple of hours straight, but that's not unlike most other earphones. The BackBeat GO 2 uses rubber "stabilizers" to help keep the speakers safely in your ears so if you wear them during your fitness activities, they won't fall out. They're similar to the design used in some of Plantronics' Bluetooth mono headsets. The BBG2 comes with the medium eartips installed as well as another set of small and large tips.

SOUND QUALITY
For a Bluetooth earphone that doesn't support aptX, the BBG2 sounds very good. I enjoyed listening to music with them, including lots of modern music that have lots of bass. Movies were also fun to watch and the good bass response helped in scenes with lots of special effects and explosions. As with any earphone, it's important to get a proper seal to get the best sound quality and the BBG2 is no different. Plantronics stresses this point frequently in their literature.

DESIGN & FEATURES
The BBG2 isn't completely "wireless," per se, because the left and right speakers are attached via a short cable with a remote attached. However, you aren't tethered to your computer, phone or tablet, which is especially useful when working out at the gym. The BBG2 is sweat-proof and water resistant, but I found the rubbery cable would snag on the back of my neck during workouts. It's not a huge deal and my Audio-Technica ATH-CKP500BL SonicSports do the same thing, but thought it was worth mentioning.

Pairing the BBG2 is easy and done via the inline remote. Conveniently, it can pair up to 8 devices, so you can have all your computers, tablets, and phones paired up and ready to use at any time.

BATTERY LIFE
The battery life on the BBG2 is really its only downfall. Five hours of talk time and 4.5 hours of stereo listening is not very long. On the bright side, it fully charges via micro USB in only 2.5 hours. You can also download a battery meter app for iOS or a battery life widget for Android. There's a version of the BBG2 with a battery case for about $20 more, that adds an additional 10 hours of life. I really think Plantronics should've made the battery case standard for the BBG2. Even if you have your own external battery charger (I do), you may want to save its charge for your phone or tablet, not your earphones.

CONCLUSION
The Plantronics BackBeat Go 2 is an excellent stereo Bluetooth earphone that's hampered only by poor battery life. It sounds great, is easy to use, and really convenient. If you're willing to charge it frequently, the BackBeat Go 2 is definitely a stereo BT earphone worth trying.

4Very Good Performer, But Skip The Case
By Philip R. Heath
I've reviewed a number of corded over-the-ear and in-ear headphones over the last few months, and I've discovered what good headphones are capable of. I've always found Bluetooth headphones to be inferior. While the Plantroics BackBeat Go 2 headphones don't alter my overall assessment, they do an admirable job. For comparison, I've tried previous units from Motorola, Jabra, Lg, and BlueAnt, but I put this new offering from Plantroics at the top of the list.

Before we get into the sound quality, I have a few thoughts on the design. For in-ear headphones, these are on the large size; however, you can't compare them to corded models. In addition to the speaker drivers, these also house the battery and charging connection (on the right headphone). The chord is a flat linguine-style that is common on better-made in-ear headphones to prevent tangles. My only complaint on the chord is that it is somewhat stiff. As a result, it rests where it will at whatever angle. The benefit of the design is durability, and thus, it is a tradeoff. The mic/remote control functioned fully as expected with my HTC Rezound running Android 4.0. However, I found that it would catch on my collar when I moved my head from side to side. This is actually a common complaint I have even for corded headphones, and it is not unique to the BackBeat Go 2. Finally, let's consider the case. It has an interesting concept in that you can charge the case too. What? That's right. The case actually has a battery along the bottom, and a micro-usb charging cable on the inside that you can use for on the go charging. It works OK, but in my tests it did not have enough to fully charge the headphones. The presence of the rechargeable battery also makes for a tight fit for the headphones. I would prefer a regular well-made case that is sufficiently sized to hold the headphones (If you've ever owned anything from Monster, you know what I'm getting at).

That's great, but how's the sound quality? As far as Bluetooth headphones go, it is pretty good. They don't sound all that great right out of the box, but I found that they opened up after a few hours use. I put them through the paces, and I used the subset of songs below for specific evaluation. Bass is always somewhat controversial, and there's nothing new with these headphones. I found the bass to be prominent but not overly emphasized. The Delerium song was a good test as it has a strong bass line with melodic vocals and other instruments. The balance was satisfying to me. I was surprised by the level of detail and clarity although it is not quite audiophile quality. I noticed the edges between instruments/electronics to be slightly blurred on "Automatic Systematic Habit". This song is a great test for headphones because it defines "busy" music. I also like to throw the opposite at headphones with the Chris Cornell solo acoustic song. His vocals and guitar came through well although it wasn't quite "like being there" as it is on higher end headphones. Classical music also comes through well on these headphones. I didn't find anything that gave me pause across various genres. For reference, I would say that these headphones sounded better than the Monster NCredible NErgy but not as good as the Monster DNA.

Battery life was between four and four and a half hours which is consistent with what Plantronics advertises. I did find that about two hours was enough for ear fatigue to start setting in. These are bigger and heavier than traditional corded headphones.

In the end, it comes down to this: do you want to be plugged in to your device with your headphones? Although it is not my scenario, active use (which these are designed for) would suggest yes. The sound quality is not as good as the Monster iSport Victory, but without the battery case, they are almost half the price. Active users looking to connect to their iPhone or Android device during exercise should find these a satisfying choice.

K'Naan - "ABCs" (bass)
Delerium - "Chrysalis Heart" (bass)
Guns `N Roses - "Chinese Democracy" (clarity)
Evanescence - "End Of The Dream" (detail)
Garbage - "Automatic Systematic Habit" (detail)
Chris Cornell - "As Hope And Promise Fade" (clarity)
Debussy - "La Mer - Trois Esquisses Symphoniques" (classical)

5Solid, reliable cord at a reasonable price
By Jonathan Birge
IMPORTANT UPDATE: There seem to be more and more people finding that the "Belkin cable" is not working after an iOS update. Having a cable fail after an OS update is indicative of a knock-off reverse-engineered cable, not a poorly built one. Apple uses iOS updates to update the Lightening firmware to intentionally stop working with unlicensed cables. As such, I suspect that the people who are having trouble with the cable bought theirs from a third party seller offering a fraudulent product. To be safe, if you buy this, I highly recommend only buying it from Amazon, if they are still offering it. As a further update, I continue to have no problems with my cable after using it nearly daily for many months.

Normally I'd say a cord is a cord, but not so with Apple lightning cords. Apple, in its infinite greed--I mean wisdom--has decided to put an authentication chip in every Lighting cable. This means that for a third party to design and build a cable they either need to (a) pay royalties to Apple or (b) attempt to reverse engineer the Apple chip. From experience reading the forums on this, you definitely want to go with a reputable company that chose route (a). So, if you're wondering why these cables are expensive, you can blame Apple, not Belkin. Belkin did a great job with these, and relative to other legitimate Lighting cables, they really aren't that expensive. And for the money you're getting a quality cable. These are solid, with thick rubber at the terminals to keep the cord from cracking.

You may be tempted to buy one of the knock-off cables, but consider yourself warned: they are likely to not work out of the box for functions other than charging (if that), and they are almost certain to stop working when Apple updates the firmware of the phone periodically. Either pay a cable from Apple, or from a reputable company like Belkin. I haven't tried them all, so I can't say these are the absolutel best, but I can say I recommend these without reservation as they are the best I've tried, and rival Apple cables in quality.

1Not compatible with iPhone 5s - even though it's listed in product title
By Scott B
I bought this cable to charge a new iPhone 5s, which has the Lightning connector. I thought a well-known brand such as Belkin would actually work, but it does not. I get a "non-compatible accessory" warning and the phone does not charge.

Just don't do it.

3Excellent Picture quality - Buggy firmware = 3 stars pending????
By Elisa and Teddy
Let me start by saying that I hate being an early adopter, but I did so because I needed a new TV. Having said that, I am returning it and going to try a replacement 7150.

Strengths of this TV are:

The panel that is on this TV is amazingly uniform. I cannot see any banding, clouding or DSE on a white image or in bright action scenes - Hockey for example. Did I mention there is no DSE or clouding on this panel. That is amazing to me.

Borrowed calibration settings made this TV really come to life. It renders color very well and life-like. On all sources, digital streaming, Blu-ray, live TV and digital TV. Great picture quality. It has good contrast and while "inky blacks" are not there - the blacks presented are very, very, good.

Smart features are good and the quad core processor flies through the settings and menus easily.

The Bad:

There is just a minute amount of blooming or haloing when highly contrasting objects appear onscreen together.

This unit was very susceptible to "judder" or cadence stuttering from air and DTV stations. I am very observant when it comes to motion stuttering on video. It drove me nuts, it was random and happened quite often on all channels and incoming signal resolutions. Sometimes my wife even noticed. When my wife asks "why is it doing that?" there is something wrong. I tried turning on and off all motion compensation settings - No Go! Off board Roku, Blu-ray sources were fine and solid - I never really use the judder or Blur settings - always off.

Finally - the smart-hub kept locking me out of app streaming from the TV apps (Netflix and amazon prime). Every 4 or 5 hours it would say that the streaming service was not available. I called Samsung support and the adviser remotely reset the smart-hub, and region settings. It worked for a while and then I had to reset all over again - 3 more times before I decided there was something wrong.

I don't know if this is just buggy initial firmware, or I maybe received a bad unit, but the picture quality on this thing is worth giving a replacement another try.

I started my hunt to replace my previous TV with a modern LED TV about a month ago. First I tried a 2013 Panasonic 58" TC-L58E60 - Terrible banding and DSE but great smart apps and fast wi-fi connectivity. I Then tried a 2014 LG 60LB6500 that exhibited a horrible pink color on the right and left side of panel - plus the calibrator said I should exchange because the panel seemed out of spec. Moved up to the direct LED LG 60LB7100 - same pink coloration on left side???? Its too bad, the viewing angles for those sets are really very good. I am now hoping the replacement 7150 will resolve the smart-hub issues. I'll update when I have the replacement.

5Wow! Blows away the 7100
By J. Travis
Everything I was disappointed about on the 2013 Samsung 75" 7100 seems to be improved on the 7150. It's thinner, is more vibrant picture, has no washout from angles, and has less glare on the screen in well lit rooms w/ windows, etc. Blacks are really black. Did I say it has a great picture? The only drawback in my book is HDMI 4 sticks directly out the back, so if you have an ultra slim wall mount, get an angled hdmi cord if you need to use this 4th input. PS....there is nothing better than 3D on a 75" tv. It Really pops.

51st Time LED TV buyer, overall--very satisfied.
By DVL
I must preface this first with a somewhat embarrassing fact. In 2014 I still had a Sony Trinitron 36" CRT television that was heavily used daily. Finally came to grips with reality and figured that this television will outgrow my lifetime and will continue to operate long after I'm dead!? I did not want to burden my children with the logistics of moving/removing this behemoth of a TV!

Anyways, I thought I'd put my 2 cents on this Samsung LED TV after spending about 2 weeks with it. As I mentioned before, I've spent 12+ years with a CRT TV so as far as image quality is concerned, I'm completely biased. Any newer modern TV for me will look absolutely great, no matter what! Image quality on this set is sharp, bright, and nicely vivid. There are some oddities with moving images that seem to produce a slight stutter, about maybe every half second or less. Doesn't really bother me now, but I do notice it. It does not occur all the time, very intermittent.

I like this TV's styling too, very thin and nice modern stand.

Originally, I had so much trouble using the TV's smart features, I thought I had a defective unit and was very close to returning the product. The first few days using the Smart Hub features and apps was a very unpleasant experience to say the least. The TV's Smart Hub was extremely lagging and slow, simple operations like turning the volume up or down would take about 1 to 2 minutes to to respond--(not making this up). Certain apps failed to stream or load all together, Amazon, Netflix, Vudu, pretty much everything I attempted to use was or became almost unresponsive. Sometimes the TV would reboot on its own multiple times. I spent a few days trying to figure out if I had a lemon, or if it was a buggy 1st-2nd release of firmware. Luckily, I found a parameter that I disabled that made the TV smart features perform as intended. Disabling the "Instant On" feature on this TV really made a positive difference in the overall performance of basic and advance features. It probably adds another second or two powering up the TV, but no big deal. Smart Hub and apps still do occasional flake-out here and there, but doing this really improves things two-fold!

The smart remote was much better than I expected and functioned very well. The "Wii-like" pointing feature also works great, I like the fact that the pointer only shows up when you lay your thumb on the remote's touch pad. I found myself inadvertently confirming different areas of the screen because the pointer always resets to the middle of the screen, no biggie, something else to acclimate to. I use a Harmony Touch remote and it also works well in controlling the TV... No pointer obviously.

Overall, this TV's picture and smart features are excellent. Very satisfied!!

5Upgraded from EVGA GTX 580 - 3DMark 11 results included
By Ahmed Ramahi
Before I replace the EVGA GTX 580 with this beast, i ran a 3DMark-11 PRO Edition test (Basic - Performance test), then i simply replaced the card and did the test once i switched on the PC:
With the GTX 580 scored P6557
With the GTX 780Ti Superclocked scored P12859
You can see it is double the result. During the 3DMark tests, the lowest FPS i got was 32, while with the GTX 580 it reached 12.
Idle temp for the GTX 580 was 30c (and that's with liquid cooling), the GTX 780Ti with its ACX two fans idles at 26c
While playing Batman Arkham Origins at full graphics settings, the GTX 580 reached temps between 45c & 50c, the GTX 780Ti between 38c & 43c.

I was very confused whether to go for this one or the Titan 6Gb, but then I read in one review website (i wish if i can remember which one to reference it) that the Titan's only advantages over the 780Ti is the extra RAM, which gives performance advantage over the 780 series if:
1- You use multiple monitors.
2- You use a single monitor that is higher resolution than 1080HD (i.e. 4K HD)
3- You use heavy graphics designing and 3D modeling.
I quote one thing i clearly remember from that site "Basically the Titan is found to bridge the gap between the office/professional use and gaming use. So if you are a graphics designer who do lots of gaming the Titan is for you, but if you want raw gaming card stick with the 780 series).

By the way it is worth to note that the 780Ti Superclocked (this card in review) and 780Ti Classified (both by EVGA, the Classified is a bit faster than Superclocked and about $50 more expensive) exceed the Titan performance. Only difference is the power connectors: Superclocked requires 1x8Pin + 1x6Pin while the Classified requires 2x8Pin and this was my main reason i went for the Superclocked, otherwise I have to purchase a new PSU.

Hope this adds value to anyone who is confused which card to purchase.

5Monster card
By Matt C
2560x1440 is not an issue for this card. BF4 is smooth with Ultra settings. Fantastic performance.

I bought this instead of waiting for a R9 290X and have not been disappointed with it.

4Works well, simple to use, but "Sleep mode" is lacking
By ManCaveSteve
I got the Jabra Drive for my wife's car and since she has zero tolerance for anything that takes more than 30 seconds to learn how to use, I specifically chose this model based on it being marketed as simple to use. In that regard, it does live up to it's billing. However ...

The marketing collateral says "...it will connect automatically whenever you get into the car" and this is just not true. Once I read the actual user guide, which by the way - has to be downloaded from the Jabra site - it makes it pretty clear how it actually works. What the Jabra Drive will do is go into "Sleep mode" when the phones it is connected to go out of Bluetooth range (~50 feet). Then if one of the phones comes back into range within 10 minutes it will automatically connect and go back into "Standby mode" and you are good to make and receive calls. Otherwise, the Jabra Drive will automatically shut off to save battery life. To reconnect, you have to slide the itty-bitty on-off switch to off and then back on again, at which point it will confirm you are connected by saying so.

So the point is that "...it will connect automatically whenever you get into the car" only applies if you get back into the car within 10 minutes from when you left. Good to know ...

That all said; it will connect to two phones simultaneously which is a pretty handy feature in that both my wife and daughter can use the unit together or separately without me needing to reconfigure anything, which is a blessing. Also, pairing was very easy - probably the easiest I've experienced with all the various Bluetooth products I've used.

So my recommendation to anyone looking to purchase the Jabra Drive is to understand the caveat regarding Sleep mode and as long as that's not a show stopper for you - the product pretty much works as advertised.

Note to Jabra: I suggest once the device goes into sleep mode it could be "awakened" by pressing the "Answer/end" button instead which would be much SIMPLER for the user instead of toggling the itty-bitty on-off switch. Just sayin' ...

3Good as long as you're not around a lot of noise
By ChibiNeko
I'm not a fan of the bluetooth sets that you stick in your ear so the idea of reviewing a speakerphone version was actually right up my alley. I seem to get most of my phone calls when I'm in my car, so this scenario worked our well for me for the most part.

Here are the pros and cons of my experience:

The Good: Easy to use, easy to set up. I'm slowly getting more savvy with electronics but I'm still pretty much a dim bulb as far as set up and everything goes. This didn't really come with any instructions but then they didn't really need to for the most part. My phone connected rather quickly to the Jabra, which was good, and I was soon on my way to making many, many phone calls. I liked that I could clip it to my visor and let it do its thing up there. Also nice was that I could use it to listen to music that I had downloaded to my phone. The battery charge lasts long enough for my purposes and I liked that you could easily replace the cord if you lost/forgot the one that came with the speakerphone. I hate it when I get things with cords that can only be replaced by the company, so this was a nice touch. I also liked that the phone's volume was pretty loud since I sometimes have trouble hearing things as well as others might. I still had to occasionally ask someone to repeat themselves, but that's more my issue than the speakerphone's.

The Bad and Inbetween: While I liked that I could clip it to my visor, I found that unless I wanted to put myself at risk of getting it stolen I had to either take it down after each car ride or flip it around to where the speaker part was hidden along the ceiling. This isn't a dealbreaker for me but it just got a little irritating after a while. For a speaker of this size the quality was decent. Music-wise you'd be better off with some of the other options out there (radio, speakers that hook up to your mp3 player, mp3 radio transmitters, etc), but as far as phone call quality went it was better than my phone's speakerphone ability. (My phone is a LG Envy Touch, so that might not be saying much.)

My biggest gripe was that you really needed to have the mic close to your mouth in order for the other person to really hear what you're saying and you'll need to turn off your radio and anything else that might distort the sound. That might sound like a no-brainer, but I found that my car's AC system was (at full and semi-full blast) just slightly too loud and the mic picked it up. I also found that people were having a little trouble hearing people sitting nearby, so if you're hoping to have conference calls with this you'll probably want to make sure that any passengers speak extra loud so they'll be heard. (Although I'm glad to say that a passenger won't have any problems hearing the person on the other end, which is probably what counts in this situation.) This kept me from giving it as high of a rating as I would have otherwise wanted to.

All in all this is a pretty decent unit. For people like me, who don't like the bluetooth earpieces for whatever reason, this will be a nice thing to have.

5Unobtrusive and Easy to Use
By Patrick Oden
The thing about a bluetooth speakerphone or earpiece is that it works best when you actually have it with you. Now, that sounds obvious, and it is, but it's funny how often I'm surprised by how true it is. You see, I have a pretty nice Plantronics Discovery 925 Bluetooth Earpiece (Black, Retail Packaging) but have gotten out of the habit of using it because it's yet one more piece of technology I need to bring along. Plus, I don't particularly like the whole "bluetooth earpiece in the ear all the time" fashion that is supposed to, I suppose, suggest how so very important you are that you have to have something in your ear every second, like you're a communications officer for Starfleet.

I also have a Garmin nüvi 2360LMT 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with US Canada Mexico Lifetime Traffic & Map Updates, which has a really great bluetooth speakerphone built in. Very easy to make calls using voice activation. The sound quality is great. But, I don't like to bring that everywhere I go, especially when I'm going to or from well known locations. I don't want people to steal it, or break into my car looking for it. So, my primitive security measure is to not bring it when I won't need it.

However, even when I know where I am and where I'm going, I still will get calls while I'm out and about. It is illegal here in California to talk on a cell phone while driving. And it's often far too inconvenient to pull over to the side of the road just to answer a couple of questions, or catch up with a friend. Which has meant, in the recent past, that I flout the law at times by talking on my cell phone, all the while hoping that a cop doesn't see me, and all the while wishing that I had brought by earpiece or gps.

That's why I like this Jabra so much. It does one thing and it does it well. Pairing it with a phone couldn't be easier, even older phones that don't usually have any bells or whistles. As long as they have bluetooth, they connect with ease. Two can connect at once.

The sound is loud and fairly good, though my gps is a bit more clear. The best thing, I think, is that this is fairly small, about the size of a garage door opener. It matches that shape too, so is entirely unobtrusive hanging on my driver's side visor.

Easy to use, unobtrusive, good sound quality, good battery life. All these things combined mean that this is the bluetooth speakerphone that actually gets used because it's the one that always stays in the car.

Though, I've also learned it serves a handy purpose beyond just staying in the car. It also makes for a good speakerphone in general, as it is much louder than the one on my cell phone.

So, it works and it is highly convenient.

That's exactly what I need.

5Surprisingly Awesome, Amazing Picture.
By G.B.
First let me say I am a tech nut and have a good eye for flaws in technology products. Upon booting this up with an SD card inserted, it immediately starts playing my pictures. So even if you're an idiot, using this should not be difficult, at all.

The screen is VERY high quality for a photo frame. Colors are vivid and the viewing angle is VERY good. You will notice almost no degradation in the image at any left or right angle, or from the top. The only time the image degrades is if you look at it from below - almost every photo frame I've seen does this though. Make sure the frame sits at or below whatever level people will be at when they look at it and you're fine.

Another note, when I received the frame, photos were sharp but dull. I turned the Saturation setting all the way up and now photos have perfect color (not oversaturated, the way they should look). So be aware of this if colors look a bit dull upon first use. I didn't need to change any other settings.

Of note too is that this frame does a phenomenal job of shrinking down large photos to fit the frame. It uses 'bicubic sharper' reduction so the images retain incredible sharpness when reduced in size by the frame to fit the screen.

The motion sensor works perfectly. No false alarms and no having it turn off when I'm sitting right in front of it.

Having used Sony and a host of others in the past, they aren't even close. I highly recommend this frame.

EDIT: It came across my attention that NIX is asking people who buy this to rate it 5 stars on Amazon for a chance to win something. Mine did not come with this card asking for a review nor was I asked to or paid to post this review. I posted it simply because the frame is very nice.

Also some people mentioned the transitions on this frame are bad. I don't use them so I have no idea. I'm more concerned with the photos than some effect to change the photo. Buying a photo frame because you like the transitions is like buying a car because you like the sound it makes when you put the key in.

2"ok" digital frame, but they game dumb Amazon.com customers
By Christos G
Cheap frame, almost all of the transition effects look like a 486 dx2 66mhz PC trying to run Crysis at 1080p.

You have to display this in landscape, horizontal has a viewing angle of "stand still and stare right at it, not even a degree off".

Oh, and the final thing, the first thing that pops out of the box, is a large printed card that says, "if you rate us 5 stars on Amazon, email us your review on Amazon.com and you may win another free picture frame!"

So, take every single review here with a grain of salt. The frame works, sort of, but all of these reviews are biased due to this cheating system they've implemented. They get 2 stars for being clever with marketing. Don't sell yourself out for a poor product, it isn't worth it.

5Great! Very easy to use
By Leo
Purchased this for my father for his birthday. Incredibly simple to use!

1. Adjust the settings(time, motion sensor, brightness, etc)

2. Fill SD card with pictures(I haven't yet used it for videos)

3. Place it somewhere with a power outlet.

That's it! You don't need to do anything else! The motion sensor is great, the frame automatically turns itself on when it senses something moving in front of it. You definitely can't go wrong with this, especially at this price!

They do include a remote to control the settings and things from a distance, though personally I don't have a need for it.

3Are they really worth the money?
By cheese
Now i have to say they do look very cool. They are very stylish. But to be honest the sound and quality is not very good. They are made of plastic. It looks like they would they wouldn't last very long unless you took very good care of them. Ill give them that they are actually pretty comfortable. Now when you put them on you'll hear that it has some great bass. But the bass doesn't sound like its supposed to, it muds out the mids and highs. Dr dre intended these earphones to be used for rap and hip hop. Now i suppose if you don't care for sound quality and all you care is for the swag then go ahead and buy them. But they really aren't worth that much money.
I have some vmodas, and to be honest they have way better bass and more bass than beats. They are the all around the best bass head headphones you can get. They have way better highs and mids and are practically indestructible. They are better in every way (except for looks, but they do look pretty cool tho). They are even better than beats studios and are only about 150 dollars.
Now i know you want to get the beats because all your friends have them, but the truth is that you can get a lot more quality for your money. If you do decide to buy them tho i suggest you get the beats pros instead and that you buy them from craiglist so you can pay what they are actually worth.

3It's...okay.
By M. Nguyen
I didn't purchase this. My father won it in a drawing and then gave it to me. So I'll try to stay relative as much as possible as if someone I know paid money for it.

Style: Looks rather sleek and simple. Color scheme is well done in my opinion.

Feel: Confusing experience. Band itself has a bit of a rubber/plastic/polymer composite feel. Cushions on the ears looks like cheap leather on close inspection, but actually feels pretty good even after several hours of usage. Head padding at the peak of the band feels like it'll wear out sooner rather than later.

Build: Cable is detachable with an inline mic with volume control. Three feet in length, which is fine since its mostly for MP3 players/phones. If you have a large head, you'll have to extend the headphones. When you do, there will be WIRES EXPOSED on the inside part of the metal. Very sad considering the retail price of this thing. The headphones overall will collapse for portability, but it's metal pins latching onto plastic bezels, so folding it on a regular basis seems like a bad idea in the long run.

Sound: Have $40 Sennheisers that has similar sound qualities to these, but with better lows on the bass. This thing also has a problem leaking sound to everyone in the same room on decent leveled volume.

Overall: Despite receiving this as a gift, I still would not recommend at current prices. These goes on sale for ~$100 every now and then from retailers, but even that would be too much for me.

Basically comes down to form vs function. If you have the money to spend on just a name, by all means. If you want your money's worth with the sound quality, then find something else.

They're like Monster cables (Monster manufactured most of these) or Bose. So basically sub-par equipment being popular mainly on mass marketing and appealing looks.

3Good, not Great. Marketing can really hype a product.
By chinee
My brother got a pair of these for my daughter a little while ago, an upgrade from the Soul by Ludacris SL100 set she has. Of course she was happy, she had the headphones that all teens want and these sounded pretty good. Nice bass, smooth sound and of course the look and brand recognition.

Here comes the surprise... 2 weeks later I saw her wearing the Soul headphones, my reaction: Oh No, the Beats got damaged! "Nope." Huh? Nonchalantly she stated "These sound better..." Huh? But the Beats are the cool headphones right? "Yeah... but... I like these better."

I had to try them again myself. She was right. Although the Beats do sound pretty good (to me), the Soul has a nicer sound to it. The Bass seems fuller and the Mids and Highs seem clearer. By themselves, the Beats sound solid, but comparing it directly with another headphone set, the Beats just don't stand up to scrutiny. For kicks and giggles I picked up and compared an old set of Sonys that I had lying around, probably paid $40-$50 for them 3-4 years ago. The Beats definitely gave me better Bass but the Mids and Highs on the Sonys sounded better. That surprised me!

So now my doughter is continuing to wear her one year old Soul headphones (that cost half the price of the Beats) and the Beats are her "back-up set". I may yet convince her to sell it on eBay and put some $$$ in the bank.
