Impressive out of the box

Very impressed with this TV so far... Admittedly, I've only had it for 24 hours. Setup was very easy, however did notice incorrect instructions on how to setup the stand. Picture quality is very impressive.

A great upgrade from our older Aquos

We've had the unit for two weeks now, and are very pleased. Upgraded from an older Sharp Aquos 42 inch to this more modern 60 inch. Our smaller set was on a shelf sticking out from a floor to ceiling bookcase. The base on this one is a bit larger than the old one, so I did away with the shelf and installed an articulated wall mount to hang this one on. Makes for a much more stable install, and it's easier to access the back for cabling, etc.

The picture quality is excellent, and it actually consumes less power than our older model. At first, wasn't sure about the downward firing speakers, as our older unit was front-firing- no problem at all. For our room, there is plenty of volume. I'll get the external amp/speakers connected for when we want that immersive experience...

We haven't really access the "Web-based" features yet, but I have streamed movies from my DLNA server on the PC here, and from a USB "thumb drive". That works quite well.

We watched the price on Amazon after we ordered, and were able to take advantage of a $70+ price drop within the price match guarantee period.

Overall, we are very pleased with our purchase. Recommended.

'Smart', as in 'Maxwell Smart'?

This package (Energizer Smart Rechargeable Charger for AA/AAA Batteries, with 4 AA Batteries Included) contains a very impressive-looking charger. The charger (CHP41US) features a countdown timer, a battery 'Fuel Gauge', and four bad-battery indicators. It looks like a very smart charger - until I examined closer.

The first warning sign is that: Would You Believe this charger can only charge in pairs? That is, it cannot handle 1 or 3 cells. A real smart charger has to monitor and charge cells individually, because this is the only way to ensure that each cell is not over-charged or under-charged.

The next thing I found out is that: the so-called 'countdown timer' is mostly for show. It's The Old "2-bit counter in a 7-segment display" Trick. The display always start from '8' (eight hours) when a pair of depleted cells is inserted, regardless of the actual remaining charge time. As the batteries are being charged up, the counter simply decrements through '6', '4', '2' and finally '0', even though the actual charge time may turn out to be just five hours.

The 'Fuel Gauge' on this charger is marginally useful. It shows 1-4 bars, based on the combined voltage of one battery pair. If two pairs of batteries were inserted, the fuel gauge is for the pair with the lower voltage. It soon dawned upon me that both 'countdown timer' and 'fuel gauge' are based on the same information. For examples:
2.2V = 1 bar = 8 hours,
2.4V = 2 bars = 6 hours, and so on.
By the time the combined voltage of two cells reaches 3.0V approximately, the charging is terminated. If the two cells have different capacities, then the lesser one is inevitably over-charged.

One problem with this single 'fuel gauge' is that: it does not tell you which cell is at what status. In comparison, other chargers in this price range may contain four individual status indicators. For examples: Targus Digital TG-LCD2700 Charger with LCD Display and Sony BCG-34HRMF4 Battery Charger with LCD Display.

The same problem applies to the four bad-battery indicators. If you insert one good cell with a bad one to the left two slots, for example, both indicators light up in red. But you still can't tell which cell is bad.

The four rechargeable AA cells included in this package are the "New" Energizer 2300mAh NiMH batteries. Note that their capacity is lower than that of previous generation (2500mAh), but they are not advertised as 'Pre Charged' or 'Low Self Discharge'. My own testing, using the La Crosse BC-900 charger/analyzer, indicated that those are indeed traditional NiMH cells. That makes me suspect that Energizer simply rolled back its rechargeable battery technology to circa 2004, instead of moving forward like other battery companies.

To be positive, I should thank Energizer for NOT making yet another timer-based dumb charger, or another '15-minute' battery roaster. But in calling the CHP41US a 'Smart' charger, Mr. Energizer Bunny just Missed It By THAT Much!

[Update on Nov 10, 2012]
Energizer now bundle this charger with four lower-capacity rechargeable AA batteries. The new light-green batteries have a capacity of just 1400mAh. That makes this package an even worse value than before.

"Indicator" says all batteries are bad, even new ones.

I had the same problem as a previous reviewer. This charger indicates all batteries are bad, including the batteries that came with it. I bought it new and locally for $9.99, which is what the batteries alone would have cost me, so it wasn't worth returing. Hopefully it actually charges the batteries and it's just a screwed up indicator. Still, it should do what it's ADVERTISED to do.

Xcellent for Xbox 360 controller

I was skeptical of buying rechargeable batteries because some are duds. However, I bought my oldest boy an Xbox 360 and I did not want to continuously pay money for batteries. Therefore, I decided to buy this charger. It works great. The game is played a ton. Still, the batteries last about three weeks, prior to needing re-charging. Initially, you will have to charge the batteries for eight hours for a full charge. The countdown timer indicates how much time is left for a full charge. Once the counter reaches 0, the batteries are fully charged. Since the charging duration is long, I would suggest keeping two batteries charged, at all times. Therefore, when the other two batteries run out, they can be switched with two charged batteries. I don't know what the issue is with other reviewers of this product. All I can say is I got my money's worth. Not to mention, I am saving money by not continuously paying money for batteries. That can be very expensive.

A quality TV

Ordered the LG 47LB6300 after my Samsung UN46C6300 went bad, and I will try to use this as my basis for comparison.

First off, the item came well packaged, and I paid a bit extra for a Saturday delivery via the Prime membership. It was worth it and came on time.

The 47LB6300 shipping weight (33.8lbs) was much lighter than the shipping weight of my old Samsung LED Tv (55lbs) and the delivery man had no problem carrying it up the front steps to my front door. He even helped me get into my front door. The non shipping weight of the LG TV is 28.4 LBS and I believe that includes the stand as well. Where as my Samsung was around 44. The reason I bring this up is because the TV was very easy for me to remove from the box from myself, but if you have help all the better, especially when it comes to putting on the stands.

The LG stands are very elegant and simplistic they only require two screen per stand and they are a but curvy. They hold up the TV very well and it is sturdy as well. I did order a wall mount but will not be doing that for a while due to a surgery and not being able to lift things.But when it comes time to wall mount it, I see no problems in being able to do it because the TV is so light and thin, and I should have help to mount it anyway making the process even easier after all the drilling and mounting of the bracket. I used the LG bracket finder on their website to find a compatible mount and settled for a Sanus bracket.

When you first turn on the TV it will take you straight into the Setup process. They use childish penguin animations to aid etc so it should be fun for kids to watch and it gives you a sense of the colors and HD qualities of the TV. I liked it, it was cool. You also have to use the included magic remote that came with the TV to do the setup. I believe there is an option of plugging the coaxial cable for your cable directly into the TV to use the LG Live TV feature, but I do not use this because I prefer to use my cable box hooked up through my Xbox one. So I can't speak about that feature.

This is my first personal smart TV but I have used others and I will say this LG has the best UI by far from the ones I have used; being Samsung and Sony. And the Magic Remote makes it easy to navigate through the options.

Since I keep on mentioning the Magic Remote. It is basically like a Wii controller. It uses a motion sensor so you're able to click and point on things on the television to select apps / options. Or you can use the arrows / wheel if you prefer. It does have a bit of a learning curve but it's definitely not difficult, just different.

The apps on the TV are Netflix, Hulu, Amazon etc the basic streaming services. To my knowledge writing this review on 4/23/14 the LG APP store is not up and running on this television yet.

Another reason I bought this TV is that both my mother and I have LG G2 smart phones. The App for this TV that can be found on the Google play store is still in "BETA" so there are still some issues with it and it is not ready by any means. They expect to release that functionality sometimes in the second half of 2014. I hope when it is done that it will make the TV easier to use via my phone. I should also say my Xbox One recognizes the LG TV and when I use the voice commands to turn on the system or turn the system off, it will also turn both the tv / cable box off and on.

Anyways back to the Apps. You will need to set up WiFi and the TV has a built in WiFi and that should be a quick and easy thing to set up. I have all the individual apps ready to be used on their on should I one day disconnect my Xbox that my family / friends can use those functions. The apps work great, I have had no issues with slow playback when using the TV apps to stream video content.

Okay, the picture quality. It is much better than my old Samsung. The LG is ready out of the box and I have found no need to tune the picture quality in mostly dimly lit room, or with sunlight when I have it in my room. The IPS panel really puts out vibrant and bright colors and offers a wider viewing angle. Everything appears to be much smoother than my old Samsung. Everything being basic TV play back, video games, blu-rays, etc. This TV even uses less electricity than my old Samsung.

Sound Quality. The sound quality out of box is decent too. It's 20W of power for the speakers. You can be the judge if you need a sound system or not. I am currently happy without one but I have been considering a sound bar that I can pair with my TV, computer, and phone so I can stream music and louder range of sounds and better bass. I am a man that likes utility, but having more sound would be a want not a need for me at the moment.

Oh and it also comes with a year free of netflix, I just filed for it today since there seemed to have been an issue claiming that particular LG promotion since they had to update the list of eligible LG TV's since this one is new for this year and that is always a plus. I also believe if you already have Netflix you can use that code on an existing account and get a 90 dollar something credit, which is great if you already have that service.

Smart TV done right

WebOS on the LG TV's is front and center, and not an afterthought. This is currently the best implementation of "Smart TV" technology. WebOS is quick and responsive. As of the writing of this review (4/12/14), the LG Store (app store) is not yet launched. So the only apps you have access to (installed by default) are: Neflix, Hulu Plus, Vudu, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Skype, and a Web Browser. The web browser is ok, but not great. I have an Amazon account, and I can say that the experience is great with the amazon app. I am presuming Netflix works well too. In the amazon app, when you exit and return, it puts you right back into where you left off, nice feature.
The picture, sound and typical TV elements are great so I won't review those - needless to say I am very happy with the Audio/Video quality.
The TV was easy to mount on the wall using CheetahMount (another great product).
In regards to the remote control, this model using a "Magic Remote" which is sort of the shape of a Nintendo Wii Nunchuck (without the cable). It has no keypad on it, but an assortment of buttons and a clickwheel. The pointer on screen is easy to move and not overly sensitive. I will say, the remote is a bit difficult to get used to at first, but as with anything it gets easier, and it is easier after 1 day of use. I can't imagine someone not familiar with it, picking it up for he first time and using it correctly (like a babysitter or guest at your house). Intuitive - the remote is not. If it was intuitive, anyone (non tech or related) could pick it up and use it proficiently with a small learning curve. I will say though that it is 'innovative' though. The lack of the keypad though, makes it more difficult to use. It does work nicely with my DirectTV Genie system (again, takes a bit to get used too.) I still keep my DirectTV remote around, because most of the time the TV is just set to the DirectTV input, and it is easier for the rest of the family to just change the channels/DVR with the standard DirectTV remote.
Other notes: The free 1 year of Netflix when you buy the TV is not instant; you have to fill out an online form and wait for a response from LG and/or Netflix with the code, and they say it can take up to 3 weeks. That time frame is ridiculous, that could have been automated so you get instant access. Lastly, I ordered this though Amazon Prime, and it was delivered by Pilot courier. They were very fast and efficient, they unpacked it, tested the TV (plugged in that's all), and then offered to take the packaging boxes with them.
I can't give it 5 stars. If the Magic Remote was completly intuituve, they would have gotten 5 stars. If I could give 4 1/2 I would have.
I'm looking forward to seeing what other apps are released (facebook, pandora, etc).

Good quality image and sound, native apps, wifi

This is a nice Smart TV with useful features and the possibilities of other ones once the App Store opens.

❶THE PHYSICAL SPECS - This is an 47 inch TV (or maybe around 46.8) that has a very thin metallic gray bezel. Even though it has a larger screen, it looks smaller than my old Samsung 40-Inch HDTV which had a larger frame. I measured the length and width of the TV and it is about 42 x 26.5. It is very thin and not that heavy. The TV has two curved T shaped stands. Very minimalistic. They are not adjustable and stand 38 inches apart. That was a bit annoying as I had to disassemble my TV stand to fit the TV. The TV does not pivot (as my Samsung did). This was a nice feature as I would be sitting at the other size of the living room and could just pivot the TV to angle my way.

❷THE MAGIC REMOTE. It is a small remote with a click wheel and point. Looks like a Wii controller. There is no physical keyboard on the remote. The click wheel helps you flip through channels. The TV has a 3D button but it is not a 3D TV. So, why keep it there for non-#D TVs? The TV Remote has voice recognition. I tried it and said "Menu". It thought I said "Milo." I tried again and it recognized it as "Menu" but then said there was no such feature. Sigh. If your Set Top box or other device has special features, you will not be able to control it with this remote. I have a Tivo and there are a lot of features it cannot do. I have been trying to have the TV recognize the Tivo remote as the one for the TV but no luck yet. I can change channels with the Tivo remote, but cannot control sound or mute, nor can I change between input devices. This is a bit annoying.

I have not been able to get my Tivo remote to pair up. Any help appreciated.

❸INSTALLATION - The guided installation process was easy and intuitive. It took about 20 minutes. It was cute and animated. There was a penguin involved. During the installation you will be able to set the cable provider or the antenna. You can also set it to Eco saving mode. I have a Tivo so it was a bit of a workaround to set this up.

❹WIRELESS OR WIRED SETUP. This TV can connect through the internet through WiFi. I tried both the wired and wireless installations. The wired one too about half a minute since the only thing you have to do it plug in the ethernet cable. For the wifi installation, the TV recognized all the wireless networks around my house. The rest is the same as when you are login in your device to your wifi network. After trying both, I kept it as a wired connection.

❺USER INTERFACE. The LG Smart TV has a very easy to use user interface. It is very intuitive and easy to navigate. When in doubt, click the Home button and it gets you to the main menu.

❻APPS. Neflix, Hulu Plus, Vudu, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Skype, and a Web Browser. I plugged in my login info for Netflix and it ran fine. It has a nice interface.

The YouTube interface was also fine. Not having a physical keyboard made things annoying as you have to point and click each letter. But, YOUTUBE has a nice feature where you can pair the TV to your mobile device (phone or tablet) and you can search and play for and play the video and transmit to the TV. Sooooo very useful. This is a great feature.

The Web browser is not the fastest but it you can choose between Bing, Google and Yahoo. You can have more than one browser window open and it is easy to navigate between the windows. No Flash plugin. You can easily play video in the browser or open it with YouTube. Works pretty well. It doesn't allow you to download docs. Or, at least, it didn't allow me when I tried it.
I will update this as I use the other apps.

❼PICTURE QUALITY. The most important part. How good is the image quality. It is not the best I have seen and I think Sony and Samsung TVs are better in this department. But, it looks good, really good. It was a bit dull in color at the beginning. But, I played with the settings a bit and now it is perfect. Really Vivid quality. If you prefer it has preset settings of Vivid, Standard, Eco, Sports, Cinema and a few others. I tried it with different ones and Vivid seemed to best right now. I flip through different shows, movies and sports. For the sport fans, this TV is great for that. You can discern hair. And in the soccer match last night, someone had way too greasy hair (no, not one of the players). Netflix also looked great on it. Good picture quality.

❽OVER THE AIR AND MOBILE DEVICES. It uses Miracast. No option for iPhone that I know about. I am still trying to do this with my iPhone and iPad. It seems to be easier for Android devices. Any help with this is appreciated as well.

❾SOUND. It sounds pretty good. It is not that loud. Even setting it at its loudest won't bring my next door neighbors asking me to turn it down. Might not even bother someone in the next room. But, a sound bar is not necessary for me right now. Small apartment and all. If you have a big place, get a sound bar.

I am still playing with the TV, so I will update more as time passes.

Not a lot of info out there: don't hesitate...

There are not a lot of reviews, or really information, in general, on this television. I have owned it for two weeks now, and I would like to share my experiences. First off, I cut the TruMotion stuff: not interested in that 'soap opera look.' No further comment on it.

Color is a little off, but not too bad. Maybe me just being overly picky/critical. Delving into the 'advanced' menu quickly fixed it. Black levels on this TV are phenomenal. This is the closest to a plasma picture I have noted on a LED. The only thing is the image processing. Going from light to dark or vice versa will cause a 'jolt' in brightness as the screen attempts to catch up with the image. It freaked me out at first, but, since then, I have reduced the screen's overall brightness, and I have not seen another instance (not to say that is what fixed the 'problem').

I am not into 3D, but...I tried 2D to 3D conversion on 'The Dark Knight Rises'. I was impressed, very impressed. So much so, I went out and bought Jurassic Park 3D. Much better 3D than the TDKR conversion. It pops. No bad artifacts or anything, just pure dino-in-yo-face action. All that being said, I will probably never use the feature again.

SD up-conversion was very good. I was afraid my collection of DVDs would be choppy or pixelated, not the case. All content looks great on the television. (TV paired with a Panasonic BDT220)

If you have any questions, I will do my best to answer them. I am no videophile, but I am peculiar about the picture.

In all, Sony has brought forth a great television with a lengthy list of features at a great price.

I purchased this from Best Buy for the same price (plus taxes), I was weary about buying an item of this size shipped to my house.

I am not very tech savy when it comes to Home AV. To put it into perspective, the last tv I bought was one of first LCD generations LG 32' (first XD system) for around $2300. Phenominal TV for the times, but it doesn't hold a candle to current tech.

Fast forward, I finally got the itch for a new tv because I was getting the AmazonTV to replace using the horribly slow online content with my Samsung Blueray. I knew this was a Smart TV, and I originally wanted my money to go more towards the picture quality than features....until I saw this TV!
Like the other reviewer, I was on the fence between this, Vizio M501d-A2R which was $200 cheaper, or a 60'' Sharp Aquos for $999 that was a clearance model 2013.
I still had skepticism about Vizio long term, and the Sharp was possibly going to be too big for my single-bedroom apartment, but the biggest factor was screen quality, which the Sony trumps all!
I considered LG and Samsung, but Samsung has left a bad taste in my mouth with the last two products I've owned from them, and their panel picture seems overly saturated, which is nice if that is what you like. LG has a more natural screen like Sony, but the models in the same specs just didn't measure up in picture quality not to mention if I wanted a LG with 4 HDMI, I would have had to spend a few hundred more to get it. The Sony is really that good!

I am still toying with the settings (there is a lot of them) and have no experience with the 3D since I do not have a 3D source, but my understanding is that the components used to make the 3D panel is better quality than the 2D panels which improves the 2D quality as well. The blacks are very black, but accurately differentiate shadows. I cannot comment about the hertz rating with the 120,240, 480Hz stuff, but there is more than enough custom settings there to get the exact performance you are aiming. I believe some sources stated that the 2013 version of the 800 series were a bit of a letdown, and that those same sources state that the 2014 (this model) is significantly better, and dialed to compete with other brand's high models that cost $100s more, and I honestly believe it looking different brands/models side-by-side.

Nearly every aspect of this TV is understated with the exception of the actual panel which pops with very vibrant and natural picture. The bezel is very thin so there is very little distraction. There is a small light that can be configured to your liking that will flash when there is remote activity or turned off. I turned it to low so that it isn't distracting while watching TV, but when it goes to screen saver mode (when my pandora times out after a few hours) I know the TV is still on.

The remote was a bit of a letdown cosmetically. Even my 2003 LG LCD had a much nicer remote, but I plan on investing into one of Logitech's universals to simplify things anyways. However, it is easy to understand and navigate with so in the function department, it's all good. Everything is done on the screen anyways. It has 4 HDMIs which I had a requirement of 3+, but in the end I couldn't get the Audio Return HDMI to function properly sending the audio signal to my AV Receiver so I ended up resorting back to running everything into the receiver and having one HDMI going to the TV. The Good thing is that even with the pass-through, the banner will still recognize the device automatically.

All-in-all, if picture quality trumpts all, and you want a 50" from a company that is a proven performer in the AV world. The biggest companies in the biz (Samsung, LG, Sony, Sharp, Vizio) all offer great product, and there are small differences between the brands. The only one that measured up spec-wise was the Vizio M501d-A2R which also had a really good picture and a $200 cheaper price tag, but the Sony wins out hands down with a bit better screen quality, less glare, and the peace of mind that it will most likely still be working 12yrs from now in a world of planned obsolescence and product engineering. I feel that Sony is a superior product in that respect and feels a little bit more "future proof" as future proof as a tech product can be these days.

Breathtaking

I have owned several modern tvs: Panasonic plasmas, Samsung LEDs, sharp LEDs. Nothing will compare to the color accuracy or deep blacks of a plasma, but this tv truly is breathtaking. I actually thought it was a 4k tv initially. There is so much pop that it is a joy to watch. The level of detail is phenomenal.

I prefer passive 3d to active tv, granted I did not buy this for the 3d or smart features. The remote is decent, not good or bad. I purchased this for $999, which is a steal IMO. I did try out the vizio m series and it left a lot to be desired. At this price point you will NOT find a better picture.

I updated my settings. I simply love this tv more and more each day. I typically am not a fan of the motion smooth settings, but I have found setting motionflow to clear provides such a clear sharp picture. It keeps sports judder free (hockey has a slight judder) and movies/shows look fantastic.

Excellent Picture quality - Buggy firmware = 3 stars pending????

Let me start by saying that I hate being an early adopter, but I did so because I needed a new TV. Having said that, I am returning it and going to try a replacement 7150.

Strengths of this TV are:

The panel that is on this TV is amazingly uniform. I cannot see any banding, clouding or DSE on a white image or in bright action scenes - Hockey for example. Did I mention there is no DSE or clouding on this panel. That is amazing to me.

Borrowed calibration settings made this TV really come to life. It renders color very well and life-like. On all sources, digital streaming, Blu-ray, live TV and digital TV. Great picture quality. It has good contrast and while "inky blacks" are not there - the blacks presented are very, very, good.

Smart features are good and the quad core processor flies through the settings and menus easily.

The Bad:

There is just a minute amount of blooming or haloing when highly contrasting objects appear onscreen together.

This unit was very susceptible to "judder" or cadence stuttering from air and DTV stations. I am very observant when it comes to motion stuttering on video. It drove me nuts, it was random and happened quite often on all channels and incoming signal resolutions. Sometimes my wife even noticed. When my wife asks "why is it doing that?" there is something wrong. I tried turning on and off all motion compensation settings - No Go! Off board Roku, Blu-ray sources were fine and solid - I never really use the judder or Blur settings - always off.

Finally - the smart-hub kept locking me out of app streaming from the TV apps (Netflix and amazon prime). Every 4 or 5 hours it would say that the streaming service was not available. I called Samsung support and the adviser remotely reset the smart-hub, and region settings. It worked for a while and then I had to reset all over again - 3 more times before I decided there was something wrong.

I don't know if this is just buggy initial firmware, or I maybe received a bad unit, but the picture quality on this thing is worth giving a replacement another try.

I started my hunt to replace my previous TV with a modern LED TV about a month ago. First I tried a 2013 Panasonic 58" TC-L58E60 - Terrible banding and DSE but great smart apps and fast wi-fi connectivity. I Then tried a 2014 LG 60LB6500 that exhibited a horrible pink color on the right and left side of panel - plus the calibrator said I should exchange because the panel seemed out of spec. Moved up to the direct LED LG 60LB7100 - same pink coloration on left side???? Its too bad, the viewing angles for those sets are really very good. I am now hoping the replacement 7150 will resolve the smart-hub issues. I'll update when I have the replacement.

Wow! Blows away the 7100

Everything I was disappointed about on the 2013 Samsung 75" 7100 seems to be improved on the 7150. It's thinner, is more vibrant picture, has no washout from angles, and has less glare on the screen in well lit rooms w/ windows, etc. Blacks are really black. Did I say it has a great picture? The only drawback in my book is HDMI 4 sticks directly out the back, so if you have an ultra slim wall mount, get an angled hdmi cord if you need to use this 4th input. PS....there is nothing better than 3D on a 75" tv. It Really pops.

1st Time LED TV buyer, overall--very satisfied.

I must preface this first with a somewhat embarrassing fact. In 2014 I still had a Sony Trinitron 36" CRT television that was heavily used daily. Finally came to grips with reality and figured that this television will outgrow my lifetime and will continue to operate long after I'm dead!? I did not want to burden my children with the logistics of moving/removing this behemoth of a TV!

Anyways, I thought I'd put my 2 cents on this Samsung LED TV after spending about 2 weeks with it. As I mentioned before, I've spent 12+ years with a CRT TV so as far as image quality is concerned, I'm completely biased. Any newer modern TV for me will look absolutely great, no matter what! Image quality on this set is sharp, bright, and nicely vivid. There are some oddities with moving images that seem to produce a slight stutter, about maybe every half second or less. Doesn't really bother me now, but I do notice it. It does not occur all the time, very intermittent.

I like this TV's styling too, very thin and nice modern stand.

Originally, I had so much trouble using the TV's smart features, I thought I had a defective unit and was very close to returning the product. The first few days using the Smart Hub features and apps was a very unpleasant experience to say the least. The TV's Smart Hub was extremely lagging and slow, simple operations like turning the volume up or down would take about 1 to 2 minutes to to respond--(not making this up). Certain apps failed to stream or load all together, Amazon, Netflix, Vudu, pretty much everything I attempted to use was or became almost unresponsive. Sometimes the TV would reboot on its own multiple times. I spent a few days trying to figure out if I had a lemon, or if it was a buggy 1st-2nd release of firmware. Luckily, I found a parameter that I disabled that made the TV smart features perform as intended. Disabling the "Instant On" feature on this TV really made a positive difference in the overall performance of basic and advance features. It probably adds another second or two powering up the TV, but no big deal. Smart Hub and apps still do occasional flake-out here and there, but doing this really improves things two-fold!

The smart remote was much better than I expected and functioned very well. The "Wii-like" pointing feature also works great, I like the fact that the pointer only shows up when you lay your thumb on the remote's touch pad. I found myself inadvertently confirming different areas of the screen because the pointer always resets to the middle of the screen, no biggie, something else to acclimate to. I use a Harmony Touch remote and it also works well in controlling the TV... No pointer obviously.

Overall, this TV's picture and smart features are excellent. Very satisfied!!

Major improvement

I purchased this Samsung to replace a 5 year old Sony led tv that had developed screen problems. The difference between the picture quality of this Samsung and the Sony is shocking. The Samsung is sharper with far more color range and depth. Black levels are excellent and this from a tv that weighs far less than the Sony. You don't get an owners manual with this tv to describe all the functions and controls so you will need to set up internet access to use the e-manual or to download it to your computer. Connecting to your wi fi is easy but to be honest I cant seem to access any of the apps such as Netflix or Vudu and I don't have a wireless keyboard to evaluate surfing the web. The tuner in this tv is also receives roughly 20 more stations off the air than the Sony did. I cant say if the 5 year difference in the TV's is why it is so much better or if it is some Samsung "magic"...I can just tell you that you wont regret buying this tv!

No Buyers Remorse!!!

I love it! The delivery company delivered and set my 55H6350 this morning. What an amazing picture. I couldnt be more happy with the picture quality. I have read reviews about people who diss this tv because of the Slow Apps or Poor Sounds. In my experience so far, the apps and web browser ARE slow but I have this TV connected to an Asus Chromebox and use that for web browsing and all apps. So the smart features wont be used by me. The built-in speakers sound okay to me. Nothing spectacular but nothing horrible, just average. However, I am using the Optical Out from the TV to my A/V Receiver and all is well.

I found the following calibration online and seem to really enhance the picture to provide true colors.

UPDATE: 30 days in and I could not be more happy with my purchase. I did a ton of comparison (probably too much) shopping before buying this tv. Boy did I make the right decision. This TV is SWEET! again, i dont use the smart features so no comment on them.

For some things, size does matter

Once you go with a large TV, it's hard to go back to a smaller unit! This thing is HUGE. With viewing distances under 10 ft., 80 inches may be overkill. DirecTV/cable broadcasts that are heavily compressed do not look that great on the TV due to the artifacts, especially when seen up close. For things like Netflix and Blu-ray, they look great even from around 8 ft.

Right now, 4K TVs are not worth the cost of admission, especially when there is so little media available that support 4K at the moment. So instead of spending $12k+ for a large 4K TV, you may as well enjoy this TV for a few years, then upgrade to a 4K unit when there's enough content to support it and the TVs come down in price.

As far as the variations between the different Sharp models, I went with the 650 based off of negative CNET reviews of the higher Qurattron models. The color accuracy on the 650 is not perfect, but it's certainly good enough, especially for the price point (and size). With a few tweaks to the colors under settings using a blue filter, I was able to get the colors to a pretty solid place. The other recommendation is to turn off Film mode in Movie settings as it makes the compositions look awful.

For games, the unit has around 58ms of input lag. While acceptable for most people for most games, you will notice it if you are very sensitive to it. For games that require frame counting like fighting games, this will have a noticeable effect as you'll be approximately 3-4 frames behind at 60fps. But for most games, it should be within an acceptable/tolerable limit.

If 3D is a must have, get the higher models as the 650 does not support 3D.

Limited Range

I only have two issues with this TV, which I LOVE otherwise.

First, I had to buy a second router to put on the same floor as the TV. It could not pick up my router on another floor.

Second, I bought a Sharp model HT-SB60 sound bar home theater system with wireless subwoofer to go with it. The sound is fantastic, but when I set the sound bar in front of the TV, it covers up the remote control sensor on the TV. Bad design! I don't want to mount it on the wall, so I have to put it behind the TV, which doesn't allow me to use the remote on the sound bar. If the TV stood up taller (above the sound bar) or Sharp moved the sensor on the TV to the top of the TV, there would be no problem. When I called Sharp, they acknowledged this is a problem for many people.

OMG this TV is unbelievable!

I'll be honest with you. I did not buy this TV from amazon.com. I bought it from Sams Club because it was $100 cheaper and I could get it into my pickup truck then and there. However, this TV is so big that sat out in my garage for 3 weeks until I could get some friends over to help me set it up! It's huge. First and foremost. Big. Big. Big. Picture quality is spectacular. Brightness and pixilization flawless. I'm completely satisfied and I am not always so flattering in my reviews. Some reviews I read were not flattering. I'm not sure why. I have had no issues at all. I did read that the customer service was good but for now I have no need to worry about that. I have the biggest TV on the block and am very happy with my decision. Bright. Even lighting over the entire huge screen. No problem with pixilization on high def TV. It's not 3d but great price and wonderful quality. You can keep reading other reviews if you want but this is the one.

I will no longer recommend this router. Only two firmware updates since the release and main issues are not addressed. I've upgraded to R7000 which has a lot more support.

Recently purchased a few latest AC routers specifically Asus RT-AC68U, Linksys EA6900, Dlink DIR-868L, Netgear R7000 and ended up going back to R6300V2. None offered more range or performance of R6300V2 despite having external antennas. While most of these new high end routers had some additional features, some of them had really unstable firmware, especially RT-AC68U & EA6900. Netgear R7000 is probably the best of the bunch and I would've kept it if I didn't have R6300V2 already. It doesn't really bring more range or performance either and it barely has any new features especially for average user, but at least Netgear has more interest in keeping it up to date with frequent firmware updates.

UPDATE 7/30/2013
Bought R6300v2 to see if there is any difference. V2 now comes with dual core processor 800Mhz, 256MB of RAM and USB 3.0, it is also twice as small and comes with smaller power supply. All nice upgrades, but did it translate into better performance? In short, yes. For regular users, they may not notice the difference, but if you have gazillion of gadgets that use WiFi especially HD streaming you will be pleased that it offers better performance. I don't have any hard numbers to back this up, but overall this upgrade is totally worth it for my busy wifi network.

UPDATE 6/27/2013
My R6300 is now over a year old and it actually performs better then it did when it was initially released thanks to several firmware updates. I've tried latest AC offerings from Dlink & Asus and they just didn't offer as good range and reliability as R6300. Netgear might release a replacement soon, but for now this is still the best overall AC router despite what reviews say on smallnetbuilder website.

UPDATE 1/9/2013
I've been using this router for over half a year now and it hasn't skipped the beat. Performance has been top notch and it can handle 15 wireless clients with a few HD IP Cameras. It's been running uninterrupted for the past 3 month. Sure there are other new AC routers that came out since then, which I haven't tested, but this has been a wonderful router so far and I am not looking for another replacement at the moment. Not surprising that the price is exactly what I paid 6 month ago, which means the router is actually holds its value for being one of the best out there.

INTRO
My past 3 year history of routers include Netgear WDR3700, Cisco E4200 and most recently two Asus RT-N56u using wireless bridge, but I was never impressed with the speed of wireless and 5Ghz band coverage. This was about time for my next upgrade, so I bought 3 routers RT-N66U, Amped Wireless R20000G & Netgear R6300 and I kept the latter and here is why:

THE GOOD:

- Range/Speed/Performance in 5 Ghz band: Excellent! While not a huge leap forward it does perform much better than any of the previous and competing routers I've tried using this band. This was a major selling point for me. It is actually able to provide excellent download speeds in the opposite corner of the 1500 sq/feet townhome that none of the other routers could handle. Also with Mac Mini 2010 Broadcom wifi, I was able to achieve up to 22 MB/sec download speed from NAS at about 15 feet with latest firmware. Previously with RT-N56 it topped at 10 MB/sec at the same location. That's double the speed! I can't wait to try this out with AC clients!

- Range/Speed/Performance in 2.4 Ghz band: The range is excellent. It covers my entire home, but so did my previous router, so it's difficult to judge the improvement here. However, there is noticeable performance boost. Among several wireless devices using this band I have 4 HD (1080p - 720p) IP cameras and previous Asus router had trouble with handling all of them with good frame rate where with R6300 I am finally able to stream all of them at once. Also, your performance will depend on the client. Previously I was using 2010 HP Envy 14 w/ Intel 6200 which was showing download speed at 4-6 MB/sec, 2012 HP Envy 17 w/ Intel 6300 showing much better results at 6-8 MB/Sec at the same location. While Mac Mini 2010 w/ Broadcom WiFi shows speeds less then 1MB sec. Basically, older clients may have some performance issues.

- Setup: It wasn't complicated all and looks fairly straight forward for non-technical people as well.

- Plenty of features for basic and advanced users: Guest network, Wireless bridge etc... all there

I CAN DEAL WITH IT:
- Size: This router is about twice the size of any of the previous routers I've owned
- Guest Network: Yes, it's available, but it's very basic. I've seen Asus RT-N66U guest network control which lets you specify the time limit or expiration.
- Administration panel locks after about a minute of inactivity and you are prompted to enter your username & password again (very annoying when you trying to troubleshoot things!)
- Parental features. I don't like the fact that you need to install tool on your pc, there is no web administration on management in the web ui.

OTHER THINGS:
- First router that I see without WEP setting.
- Some of the older clients (specifically HP Envy 14 w/ Intel 6200 card) had connection issues with sleep/restart. I've upgraded my laptop since then and have not had this issue anymore
- Mine appears to be defective where the activity lights at the bottom are not lighting up, except Netgear logo. (UPDATE 7/10 I've gotten a new one without this issue)

PREVIOUS UPDATES:
UPDATE 10/13: This is probably going to be my last update since I really don't have anything else to add other then this has been a wonderful router ever since I upgraded to 1.0.2.36_1.0.28 version. I've been running without reboots for a month now and no problems with performance whatsoever.

UPDATE 9/6: 3 month later and still loving this router. If you live in a large home and have wireless coverage issues with 5 Ghz band you should definitely give this one a try. Overall it's been rock stable for me with only one nagging issue related to 5Ghz band (see my previous update). Netgear support got a hold of me and I've been helping them to troubleshoot the issue by sending router logs. They provided a beta update for me that fixed the issue which they will be releasing in September.

UPDATE 7/10: Month later the router still performs very well. I am hoping for new firmware soon to improves performance and compatibility with older devices. Still have issues with Envy 14, Mac Mini 2010 and also HTC Sensation phone. They all exhibit different issues. First one takes a long time to connect, second one has very low speed on 2 Ghz band and last one occasionally unable to connect. There was also one hiccup. I was running uninterrupted for 2 weeks straight using latest firmware and 5Gh signal degraded from Excellent to Poor and 4 to 2 bars at the same location. I've rebooted the router and everything went back to normal.

UPDATE 6/13: 2 weeks now with the router. Sold my two Asus N56U that I used as a wireless bridge and that were once highly rated at SNB. I honestly do not know why SNB posted terrible results with R6300, they must have defective unit but that's still not the case for me. I am perfectly satisfied with R6300 and it delivers excellent performance/range throughout the house without the need of any bridges or extenders which I once had to use. I do have defective unit where I don't get any activity lights, so I might exchange it at some point. Did I mention, this is an awesome router?

UPDATE 6/7: Netgear released new firmware which enables Guest network that caused so much noise and negative reviews in the initial release, the were no other fixes listed, but upon my own checking I noticed they added "Performance boost" option in the Advanced > Wireless settings. I performed my usual download test which showed a slight increase in download speed on 5Ghz band, but it's hard to say if it was related to the firmware or not.

UPDATE 6/4: SmallNetBuilder released preliminary test results that compare performance R6300 with a few other N routers that show that it doesn't perform as good as expected in some cases. Also mentioned my results in the process when compared to N56U. I only had R6300 for a few days now, but my experience for the most part has been positive even with a rough firmware. Also, I usually base my router purchases by SNB reviews, but in this case I am having different results, so I'll stick with R6300 for now.

A bug-ridden product with terrible support, not a good combo.

I've been giving Netgear support a few days to deal with my $200 paperweight but they are pretty much non-responsive to my problems so you gentle reader get my scathing review.

I was a previous Netgear die hard, I used them almost exclusively before the N standard. When Belkin brought out a Pre-N router I jumped to them and have really liked their products and have been there for a while. A new larger home now provides new challenges so I wanted an updated router. I started shopping the AC routers and poured over reviews and specs for a couple of days before jumping on the R6300 (the Belkin AC solution being generally panned using 2 streams instead of 3 for AC).

This is certainly a feature-rich router, the Genie function generally works well. The software for the desktop and mobile devices is decidedly "dumbed down", you need to use the web interface to control anything significant but it's nice and the web interface is well done. Other than a few hard locks Genie has successfully restored connections which, I'm afraid, it has had to do often. It was very easy to install, I find it pretty attractive and when it works it is indeed fast (blazing fast with the AC USB adapter) with a very nice range.

Let me preface my comments by saying I'm an IT professional and a decided nerd -- this is not my first rodeo setting up a router or troubleshooting bleeding edge gear. There was a perfectly functioning Belkin N600 Wireless Dual-Band N+ Router (Latest Generation) that played nicely with my DSL modem/router before I fell victim to faster speed and more powah! I have now torn my hair out for the past few days. Some of the obvious:

* Initially refused to let iOS clients stay connected, after a firmware reset and some tweaking I believe this possibly related to DHCP conflicts between the R6300 and my DSL modem (I should note the Belkin had no such trouble). Once I switched the R6300 to AP mode (let the DSL router handle DHCP and the R6300 acts as an access point) this seemed to go away. Netgear initially has tried to blame this on Apple, if you check the Apple discussion forums though you will see it is Netgear across several products, also, see below regarding other platforms.

* Lets connections die on a regular basis, one moment you are connected, the next you are getting no traffic even though you are connected. Did this on iOS, OS X and Windows clients. Sometimes you can cycle your adapter, it usually means a router restart is needed though.

* Loses its internet gateway daily, usually Genie will fix this, other times it requires a hard restart as the web interface will stop functioning.

* When the router was first fired up my Mac Pro using a TP-Link Wireless N Dual Band PCI Express Adapter with 3 x 2dBi Antenna (TL-WDN4800) saw the 5 GHz SSID, after upgrading it to the latest firmware (1.0.2.36_1.0.28) it no longer sees that SSID. My MacBook Air and iPad (3rd Gen) see and use the 5 GHz SSID without issue (when the router works).

So, after these many frustrations I went to the Netgear support site and opened up a ticket as I had read some users had gotten settings that worked. I registered, gave all my product info, filled out a very long and detailed form and zipped it off.

The response from first level support? "What version firmware are you using?" My response was "I put that in my initial report but here it is again".

Next response from Netgear? "Download this firmware." What firmware is it? Why the version I'm already running of course! I have now sent back for a third time the firmware I'm using, a very detailed description of the problems and, just for good measure, a screenshot of the configuration screen indicating I'm using the latest firmware.

I am giving them a chance to rectify this as there are portions of the product I really like but my patience is wearing thin. I suggest you look at the other AC options out there or stick with what you have before making the leap.

**JULY 2013 UPDATE**

So it's been 7 months but I just retired this router. First, with succeeding firmware updates over the past seven months this router has gotten quite a bit better. I too found that turning off the guest network avoided a lot of the trouble (although that feature was one I wanted) and it's been fairly solid. I still found that rebooting it every couple of weeks improved performance and I really wish it had a self-healing reboot that I could set to do this type of maintenance work. Genie still doesn't function right most of the time in bridge mode, I have to put in the IP to get to it.

With Apple's new Time Capsule though I've decided to retire this router, whether I sell it or use it as an extender I don't know yet but we shall see. It does seem that Netgear continues to work on the firmware to get this router where it should have been from the start. Rating revised to 3 stars in current state.

My best router

Disclaimer: I received this unit as a beta tester and am an active Netgear beta tester.

I've used many routers in my years as a network enthusiast. I thought that Netgear's WNDR4500 last year was the best I could do with a wireless router in my house. I live in a 3500 sqft house which is a decently large house but not enormous as many of the McMansions in my neighborhood. Note, my house is wide with several standard sheetrock walls, not tall, so my router has to go further horizontal distances to reach my laptop and computers rather than vertical. Antenna direction can really effect signal strength based on horizontal or vertical positioning of clients.

The R6300 beat the WNDR4500 by about 40-50% in signal strength in "difficult" areas of the house. Everywhere in the house where I had a weak signal with the WNDR4500 went to a moderate signal strength with the R6300. Even the guest bedroom which is on the first floor away from the rest of the house received a moderate strength signal. This is significant because I could not receive and maintain a signal strength strong enough to stream video using the WNDR4500 but it is strong enough with the R6300.

Using an Intel Centrino Ultimate 6300 wireless NIC in my laptop, iPerf results came in at >100Mbit/sec with the R6300 on the 5Ghz band.

I, like some of the other reviewers am able to set up two of these units, one as an Access Point and the other as a wireless bridge. Connected to another desktop in my family room set up as an HTPC, I get regular iperf transfer rates of an eye popping 270-300MBits/sec on the ac band between the AP and bridge. A huge step up from the 60-70 MBits/sec I had using the WNDR4500. To be fair though, I wasn't using two WNDR4500s like I am with the R6300s so it's not an apples to apples comparison.

I've tested Readyshare printing with a Brother MFC8840, Brother HL-2040, and HP LaserJet2600n. All work well using the Netgear utility.

2 USB ports allow me to attach both a printer and an external harddrive to the router at the same time instead of to my desktop.
Netgear has addressed the Guest Network issue with a new firmware upgrade so that is no longer an issue. Guest network is really nice if you're having people over for the afternoon or out of town guests that are staying longer.

Finally, I absolutely love the way this router looks. I have it sitting right next to my flat screen tv. The LED "NETGEAR" lights really gives it class. It doesn't have a lot of super bright LED lights that flash with network activity in the front, and if anything, the power and wireless network lights are a little too dim. Netgear must have tried to listen to the home entertainment crowd on designing the outward appearance of this device cause it's really a good looking router.
