5ASUS M11AD-US006O
By Bryan Feldman
I selected this computer for speed and reliability. Since it was to be used primarily for software development, I didn't need a graphics card. And I definitely didn't want Windows 8. So far (after about a week) I am very satisfied.

When the computer arrived it was well packaged. I opened it up to make sure everything was intact and seated securely; it was. Inside this computer is simple and neat with well-routed wires and lots of open space.

The computer has the Core i7-4770S processor running at 3.10 GHz, not 3.4 as stated, and 16 GB (15.7 usable) RAM. It includes Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1. It has a 2 TB hard disk which is divided into two partitions: WIN7 (C:) which has 745 GB usable and DATA (D:) which has 1.07 TB available and comes completely empty.

It comes with some Asus bloatware, some of which run at startup and you may want to disable. Some of the apps may be useful but I have not looked into them yet. This computer includes Bing Bar which states it will collect information about you and you must agree in order to accept the Windows license agreement. And it includes McAfee Internet Security 2012 edition with a one-month subscription.

Initial setup is straightforward and smooth. Once it's complete, you have an option of making a system image backup, which worked well, used four DVDs and took about two hours. First thing I did after that was to remove the Bing Bar and install a non-Microsoft browser.

It has two front USB 2.0 ports and four rear. I would have liked more but I use a small, unpowered hub to attach more stuff. It also has two USB 3.0 ports in the rear. One in the front would have been useful for external hard drives. Note the image of the back of the computer shown on this page is not the correct one and the features pictured there vary significantly from this PC; you can download the documentation from the Asus website to see what it really looks like. The PC is quiet except for a somewhat noisy hard drive, but I am comparing it to my old system; it had an SSD which of course is silent.

The motherboard-based Intel 4600 graphics has 1.75 GB of RAM, supports two HD monitors with Aero Glass, and performs well for my non-gaming use. Also built in is Realtek High Definition Audio. It has a 350-watt peak, 286-watt continuous power supply.

Here's the key point about this computer: it is FAST. Really, really fast. Large programs like Eclipse ADT and Photoshop load amazingly quickly. Big software projects compile in half the time they used to or less even though my prior machine was not slow. The Windows Experience Index gets a 5.9 overall score with the primary hard disk data transfer rate scoring lowest (5.9), graphics scoring 6.7, and RAM and processor scoring a lovely 7.7.

It came with a keyboard and mouse which I did not use and so cannot comment on. The case feels solid and well-made and is handsome and not too big.

Any more questions, please ask and I will add them to this review.

I really like my new computer with Windows 7!! It's so much faster and more efficient than my last computer. I was very happy to find a new computer that still had Windows 7 available. Windows 8 is very confusing. Windows 7 works much better.

5Great Call Quality and Saving Everyday
By Robert
Background: I was originally paying Verizon $20 a month for local calling only. There was significant static and the service was low for what I was paying. I switched to Comcast for $33 a month for VOIP service through their HFC network as part of a Triple Play. For this I received basic service and free unlimited U.S. calling. Although the service with Comcast was good, we found that the cost for a phone in the home was not a necessity since everyone now has cell phones. Since this was no longer a must have, I looked for something that was low cost but would still provide traditional land line service for the FAX, business calls, etc.

Research: I looked at several options, including cutting the cord completely. Vonage was pushing a lot of ads at the time, but to me the cost was still too high at $13 a month. Magic Jack was advertised on television, but it did not appear to be the right solution for the home since I wanted to hard-wire into my home phone network, and the Magic Jack required a computer to be on at all times. A friend recommended Ooma. He had a unit for several years and was happy, so I took a look at the service. I found that the service offering compared well to Comcast, and when the unit went on sale, I decided to give it a try.

Out of the Box: Everything was packaged neatly and the unit arrived in perfect condition. The instructions for set-up were clear and concise. The unit is similar in size to a wireless router, without the antennas of course.

Installation: The unit has an Ethernet pass-through that allowed the unit to be wired between the modem and my wireless router. Although Ooma considers this the optimal configuration, I did not like the set-up and used the sub-optimal set -up of connecting it to my routers Ethernet port as a stand-alone device. Comcast had been kind enough to disconnect my Verizon external connection for their installation, so I connected the twisted-pair phone connector with the Ooma so that I could have the Ooma supply phone service to all of the phone jacks in the house. (NOTE - This is easy to do if you are switching from a twisted pair external feed. Many websites describe how to do this and it is fairly easy). You then have to talk to the Ooma device on a computer with a IP address. This causes the Ooma to bring up an internal web server to set-up your service. The set-up was guided and required no technical expertise.

Phone Numbers: Although I live in a rural area outside a small city, I could select the area code I desired and found one that was local for my neighbors to call me. That said, I did like the idea that I could select an area code other than my own, such as the one near my parents. They also offer a phone number porting for a reasonable extra fee, a fee that is waived if you try their upgraded service for a year. Since cost was my driver, I decided to remain on the normal service with a number I chose from a short list of options. Another post expressed dissatisfaction with the area codes available, but this was not my experience.

Start-up: This was a little frustrating and the unit took some time to link with the service and download the updated firmware. At one point I thought it was not working. Patience will be the watch word for this part of the set-up. Normally I would deduct a star for this, but the overall cost and experience more than made up for this initial frustration. Once this was completed, the Ooma linked within a minute. Since installation, we have had power or internet failures that caused the phone system to restart. Normally it re-syncs within a minute or so of power returning. That said, on occasion, I have had to recycle power after a loss of internet service or power to force a sync. This has been rare, two to three times in two years, but it has occurred. To me this is a minor frustration and I again would normally take a star, or at least a half, but when I compare this the service and savings, I have to give them the star back.

Phone Service Quality: We are on a 20MBS down, 4MBS up service through the Cable Company. My children play online games and we stream a lot of movies from various services. In two years, we have never seen a loss in quality of the call and the sound and reception is as good as Verizon or Comcast, maybe even better. In fact, I am on a conference call on the Ooma for work as I am writing this on the web and my teenager is playing an online game on the PS4. The bandwidth for the voice call is a very small tax on your service and for me has been unnoticeable.

FAX: We do FAX over our Ooma line with a All-in-One Printer and have had no issues sending or receiving.

Features: I think the level of features you get for FREE are outstanding. The services are comparable to Comcast and I was surprised that you could get so much for, well, nothing but taxes.

911: Ooma provides for 911 service to your local police, fire, and medical based on the address you say the box is at.

Roll-over if service is out: Ooma rolls over the calls to our cell phones if the power or internet is out. Well thought through!

Cost: Free is not free, except here. Once you pay for the unit, you will only pay local taxes. This is not Ooma's fault, you can blame your local government. Actual cost for my service is $3 a month. For me, the pay off was in four months. Since then, the Ooma Telco is printing money for me instead of the Cable or Phone Companies!

Two Year Experience: As of April 2014, the box has performed well and I have had no quality issues or failures. I will update the post if it fails in the future, but my expectation is that I will get several more years of service from the Teleo. To date, I have saved over $600 (Yes, after subtracting the cost of the unit. Taxes were paid under both services, but that savings includes the $3 a month for taxes). If you have your Cable modem, you can avoid the $8 a month rent on that as well.

Summary: Yes, this is legitimate and yes it works. You will save money and get the same service as you get from the Telcos and Cable Companies. You will have to be patient on the set-up if your unit needs a firmware update and you might have to recycle power to the unit after a power outage if the resync to the service does not work (for the record, I had to the same thing with the Cable service as well, and a lot more times! So many times in fact that the power plug eventually wore out - but I digress). The features are excellent and you can't beat the cost. I have had the service two years, one month as of this post and I am very pleased that I did this.

Recommendation: I recommend this to friends on a regular basis. Many are worried about the VOIP, but once I explain to them it is the same they are getting from the Cable Companies or Verizon Fios, some of the concern drops away. Once it is up and working, they are very happy with the purchase.

5Wish I had met her sooner!
By Z. Wang
I finally got tired of AT&T, sitting in my closet year over year (for about 14 years now), doing nothing but collecting dust from the air and money from me. What upsets me even more is that AT&T has been gradually raising its price on basic monthly service and that finally rippled my psychological serenity. I mean, what does AT&T wants really?

Then I met ooma! What a sexy name to begin with. You invest in the initial hardware and start enjoying almost free phone services for the rest of your life (assuming the ooma hardware outlives us;-). The only monthly fees you pay are the following:

- regulator compliance fee
- E911
- Federal Universal Service Charge
- state and local taxes

Where I live, this comes out to be roughly four dollars monthly. And that is all you need to pay after getting this ooma telo hardware. All calls within US (and most provinces of Canada) are free. International calls are also available on much lower rates.

The features I enjoy the most so far:
- caller ID. AT&T would definitely want to charge you more than a few dollars for this simple service. You can even import your phone book information so that incoming calls will be identified with caller names, instead of phone numbers. (I did notice that sometimes though my caller ID does not display correctly. But I am working on that...)
- check your voice mails and call logs from anywhere there is a computer.
- take your ooma with you when you travel. So no matter where you are, you are local on the phone. Unless, of course you travel to a country where VOIP is not allowed on those private carriers.
- money saving!
- porting my # out of AT&T was a smooth process. Done in 5 days!

The only complaint that I have is that ooma does not come with wall-mounting hardware (not even wall-mounting ready). I had to visit home Depot and improvise one. I am proud of my creation! Please see photos as well.

So this is the latest version of ooma telo. I was told that internally it is known as "boyle". It sports a much simpler and cleaner front panel (and slightly sturdier packaging) than the previous version. I was also told feature-wise they are the same. Amazon has dropped its price on the previous version significantly and a lot of online merchants have yet to get the newer version. Look like there might be a deal somewhere to be had - for example, with price matching.

You should also know of course that you need Internet service to use this device. Fortunately almost everybody nowadays has Internet service one way or the other. If you are using cable service already, no problem. If you are still stuck with ATT DSL, you probably need to sort that out first (do people still pay extra for DSL if they don't need phone service?). I moved off AT&T DSL a couple of years ago and have been happy with cable.

So I am in love! Shouldn't you?

4Nice features
By Joan M Bauer
I really like the features on the ooma, block calls, do not disturb, voice mail, etc., but I am unhappy with delay in the conversation which causes one person to talk over the other person. It's quite annoying so not sure if I will keep it. Otherwise it is a very nice product.

4Maxed out Performance Value, Still Needs Some Polish.
By P. Vo
Purchased this at $769. For the price I paid and the performance of this projector, I am getting more than the requisite 80% performance while having paid less than the 20% fare. But this projector is not without its faults. Thankfully, aside from a loss of brightness in 3D, a problem inherent in all of today's 3D display devices, none of these faults are related to image quality. So here they are first, the Cons..........

Cons:
1. Aside from a zoom lens, no placement flexibility. Additionally, vertical offset adds a dimension of difficulty with setup.
2. No 12 volt trigger.
3. Hourglass meter shown when streams are being switched during blu ray playback. Input identification also is shown.
4. Remote presses are unresponsive and/or IR receiver has a very narrow reception angle requiring user to be precise when using remote.
5. Light spillage from front grill. Thankfully, this does not manifest on the screen.
6. Menu screens not completely elegant in navigation setup. Some selections exist on a second page when they could have been included on a single page. This makes going back to change a setting like retreading back through a maze.
7. Only one user setting. Although, it does appear that 2D and 3D settings are stored separately.
8. Contrast boosted during 3D playback causing washed out image.
9. Lens cap not included.

Pros:
1. Awesome image processing post calibration.
A. Silky smooth. No image tearing during camera pans.
B. Very good blacks.
C. Very good shadow detail.
D. Very good colors.
E. Reduced mosquito noise effect for a DLP.
2. Should street for less than $800 soon.
3. Less than $200 bulb replacement.
4. Very organic 3D performance. No artificial pop-out book effect. Even with films transformed into 3D like Beauty and the Beast.
5. No cross-talk in 3D.
5. DLP Link and RF glasses sync at 144hz.
6. About as loud as a long exhale of breath.
7. Onboard audio is better than most LED TV's (not that any projector user will ever use this long term).
8. Comes in black!
9. Every inch of performance, operation costs, enjoyment are absolutely maxed out at this price (under $800).

There may be some projectors that are going to be a hair less in price than the HD131Xe, but other drawbacks with those projectors will put them below the HD131Xe in value. When splitting hairs with cost, a bulb replacement of under $200 should not be discounted when price is a consideration. The cost of bulb replacement of other projectors is going to run $350-$500. Some projectors may be brighter, but at the cost of being louder. And there is no projector at under $800 that can match its black level performance. The only way to gain on the performance of this projector is to pay more. And the only reason I am hesitant to give it a perfect 5-star rating has more to do with Optoma's laziness than the limitations of the actual projector. Optoma has its roots in the business class projector arena. That these business class vestiges are still around really is why this projector isn't perfect in its class. Take for instance offset. With 4 people huddled around a projector with an image being projected high up on a wall, offset proves valuable in say circa 2004. But in today's world where virtual meeting software allows everyone to view the presentation on their own private laptop screen or without even being in the same room, offset is not needed. The idea that a projector serves the dual purpose of being a business projector that can be used for entertainment doesn't exist anymore. Projectors are either Home Theater projectors or large venue projectors for business use. Optoma needs to get rid of this silly offset. They are really shutting out the basement theater room and low ceiling folks from buying their products. Give some lens offset to widen the potential market and flexibility for users. Most viewing devices today get thrown all sort of media at them: video games, blu rays, TV, sports, internet rips, etc. None of these media sources are equal. So it really is cripling to users for Optoma to have only included one single user setting. And that this is the case is an indictment towards Optoma's laziness. Optoma, realize that the landscape for business projectors has long since eroded. Projectors are no longer going to be fed just Microsoft Windows from a laptop. Using the same resources already at Optoma, programmers could very easily give users at least just one more user setting for different media types we are throwing at it. Prolonged refusal to do this is just plain laziness. In a home theater environment, where the user is attempting to duplicate the moving going experience at home, we don't need to be reminded that our efforts are artificial by having a ticking hourglass displayed with streams are being swtiched during blu ray playback. Improve those HDMI handshakes and get rid of these nag screens. These things that I mention as cons are really the polish that is needed to lift Optoma projectors from the respected and reputable, and into the reverent elite and beloved.

5Excellent Budget 1080p Projector with 144Hz DLPLink or RF3D Support
By Miwo
Extremely happy with my purchase. I highly recommend buying this projector if Bang/Buck, Quietness, and 1080p/3D are your most important factors in selecting a projector. Completely blows away by 720P LED 500 Lumen Projector I was using previously. I'm not qualified to do professional Lumen measurements, or direct comparisons between similarly priced 1080p projectors, but take a look at some of the points I've highlighted. If you have anything you want to ask me or have me check that doesnt require professional equipment, leave me a comment. Thanks for reading!

Pros:
+ Noise: Nearly Silent in ECO Mode. My seating position is directly under the projector and I do not hear it over my HTPC/PS3 located in the corner of the same room. Bright Mode is slightly audible, but does not emit a high pitched fan noise. I cannot stress this point enough. My central air is much louder than this...If the projector wasn't throwing a giant image on my screen, I wouldn't know that its on. Its that quiet to me!
+ Price : I got this on Preorder for $ 7 6 9 . It seems to be in price flux with supply/demand. If you see this for above $9, just buy the HD25e (similar specs, brighter, more contrast, white color). Excellent value and Bang/Buck. It will be great if the price settles down to under $800 again.
+ Black Levels and Colors were very good right outside of the Box. Several Color Presets available as well as Fine Tuning of Color Temperature (Warm/Cool), Color Space (RGB Full 0-255 or RGB Limited 16-235 or YUV), and Hue/Saturation/Gain Levels for Red/Green/Cyan/Magenta/Blue/Yellow. RGB Adjustment on White. If you want to fine tune and professionally calibrate, you should be able to. This is a budget projector, but Shadow Details were pretty good. On projectors with horrible black levels, even the empty black side borders (like a 2.35:1 aspect ratio movie on a 16:9 screen) will be a washed out black or light grey.
+ Input Lag : This projector is very responsive. I play 3D Fighting Games which require 1-Frame Links (Button Presses with 1/60th of a second timing) to execute combos. I did not have any problems playing demanding video games on this projector. It should not hinder your gameplay. I have most post processing features turned off (BrilliantColor, Dymaic Black, Noise Reduction, Edge Masking, Zoom).
+ RF 3D: I paired this up with the Optoma RF 3D Glasses and 3D Emitter. Watched Avengers in 3D without any problems. Very impressive, did not notice any dropouts or abnormalities even when viewing from the opposite side of the room.
+ Lamp Replacement is affordable: A quick google of the 190W BL-FU190E shows $179 replacement cost. The Lamp is rated at 6000 Hours in Eco Mode, or 3500 in Bright Mode. 6000 Hours is about 4 years using the projector for 4 hours a day

Cons:
- Remote Control Backlighting: Extremely bright blue blacklighting. Borderline offensive
- Flimsy Plastic Zoom and Focus: Does not feel sturdy at all. Very loose. I havn't noticed focus or zoom drifting though
- Did not come with Lens Dust Cap (although manual refers to it)
- Placement requires more pre-planning due to no Horizontal/Vertical Lens Shift

Other Comments (neither pro or con)
1. 2D/3D Color Settings are maintained separately. Meaning you have to be in a 3D Mode (SBS, T&B, Seq) to alter your 3D color settings. It definitely saves different settings in 2D/3D modes

2. If 3D is a top priority, you may still want to get a brighter projector like the HD25e or HD25-LV. Brightness takes a big hit when you put on 3D Glasses (I used Optoma RF ones). I'd recommend putting the projector in Bright Mode or having a very well light controlled room for Eco Mode 3D.

3. Power Consumption Read from a Kill-a-Watt Meter:
STANDBY: 0W
ECO-Mode: 200W
BRIGHT-Mode: 234W

4. Did not and will not test the speaker. I think its a useless feature for a home theater projector

5Best Bang for your Buck
By Ryan S. Waters
First off, I'll say that this is about the 4th review I've ever written, but I felt as if I NEEDED to write one as a thank you to optoma for the deal that this thing is. I have been looking to buy a new projector for over a year. I have had 4 projectors over the course of the last 10 years, so I'm not an expert, but I have a few projectors to compare to. My old projector was great, but I had a buyer lined up for it, and I just needed to find the right projector to replace it.

I debated on the HD33 when it came out, on the benq 1070 and then the optoma hd25 and 25lv. As you can see from the projectors I have been looking at, they all have about 3 things in common. They all have 3d, they all have around 2000 lumens, and they are all under 1500.00. When I saw the optoma hd131xe come out at under 800.00 that met all my criteria, I waited to see a few reviews before I pulled the trigger. I almost waited for CNET because I love and respect their reviews, but my anticipation got the better of me. Boy am I glad it did!!!!! For the money, you WILL NOT find a better projector. Right out of the box this thing looks amazing. It's more than bright enough on eco mode (6000 hour rated), that I don't even see myself using bright unless it's in 3d. The blacks are good, NOT OUTSTANDING, but for the price really unbelievable. The picture is greeeeaaaat, even my wife complimented on it, and she could care less about my man cave.

Will this projector contend with higher end projectors ???? probably not. It doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles and it doesn't seem like their is a lot of adjustment options (I've only played with it for about a week and haven't felt like I needed to adjust it much). Make sure you do a little research on that, if that's important for you! Lens shift would have been nice, and limits where you can mount it. That is my only REAL complaint, but again you aren't touching that feature at this price, so I live with a little bit of an offset throw. One of the reviewers was right about the mount holes being small and awkward. The universal mount that I also bought here on amazon didn't fit it, and I really had to make shift a solution. The holes are really close together and I was only able to get 2 legs to mount. "The bottom line" is that the minor bads on this projector aren't BAD. Price taken into consideration this projector is A NO BRAINER! I don't foresee anyone being able to beat this feature set, for this kind of price for awhile. 3D, Native 1080p, 2500 lumens, AND 18000:1 contrast. Do yourself a favor and if you reading this review and debating BUY IT as it is the BEST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK!

5Don't toss your old router! ... and other suggestions
By L. Brown
Some suggestions:
(1) Use the instructions in the Users Guide for installing the router - the installation software on the CD didn't work for me, but the written instructions are clear enough.

(2) Update the firmware before you get too far in configuring the router.
There was a nasty bug in the installed firmware that caused the router to freeze if you tried to display wireless statistics. This is fixed in the firmware dated August, 2010.

(2) If you're thinking of replacing an old b/g wireless router with this, don't toss the old router yet!
Many wireless devices such as printers and music systems (like Sonos) do not support the 11n standard yet. At first I tried running the TP-Link router in mixed b/g/n mode. For some reason the performance was exceptionally slow. But, it's easy to link your old router into the network so that the b/g devices will use the old router. The TP-Link router can then be set to 11n-only for excellent performance for devices that support it. Here's how to do it:

- Give each router a different IP address, say 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2. Make sure both are outside the range of dynamic IP addresses.

- Give both routers the same SSID so that they will form a single network.

- Assign each router to different wireless channels. (1 or 6 or 11 are usually recommended).

- Turn off DHCP or other WAN support in the b/g router. Set up the TP-Link with WAN support (such as DHCP) and connect to the ADSL or cable modem.

- In the b/g router, add the MAC addresses of the 11n devices to its MAC filter list. These are devices you DON'T want to connect to it.
(Of course, if you have many more 11n devices than b/g ones, do the reverse: create a filter list with only the devices you DO want to connect).

- Link the b/g router to any LAN port on the TP-Link router with an Ethernet cable.

That should be it. Enjoy!

5Awesome Router for DD-WRT
By Tex
**************************
THIS REVIEW WAS FOR THE OLDER VERSION OF THE TP-LINK ROUTER.
**************************

I bought two of these routers with the intention of flashing them with DD-WRT. Both flashed extremely fast and easily without any hitches and can be flashed via the router's web GUI (no Telnet, etc). Both routers have been running non stop ever since flashing them and have worked perfectly. I have been very pleased thus far with TP-Link products, especially after having a lot of issues with Belkin routers (hangs, slooooow response, rebooting, over-heating, etc). You can't beat the price vs features with this TL-WR1043ND (for sure when using DD-WRT, but even the original TP-Link firmware is still very usable). I my opinion this is the best price vs features gigabit router on the market for DD-WRT.

For those interested, here are some hardware specs:

Platform...........Atheros AR9132 @ 400 MHz
FCC ID.............TE7WR1043NX
Wireless NIC...Atheros AR9103 3x3 MIMO
WLAN..............802.11b/g/n

WAN................1/gigabit

5Excellent WIFI Router
By Dr. Wilfredo M. Viray
I bought this wireless router because of the features and the reviews. It is a good thing I did. This is an excellent router.

Pros:
Ease of Setup - I got this working in less than 10 minutes. Just turn off your Cable modem and computer. Connect the router to the modem using the included cable. Power up everything. Then put in the CD and in a few minutes you are done. That includes setting up the WPA2 security.

Range - My previous Wireless Routers(Apple,Linksys,Zyxel) could only give me at most 61% from one end of my house to the other. This gives me 85%. That is going through 3 Bedrooms and furniture.

Speed - I used to get 12 Mbps with my previous router. I just tested it now and I now have 19.89 Mbps download speed from the same site I always test with.

Price - Excellent value for money.

Network USB Hardrive - You can easily share a USB hard drive. You now have no limit to how much videos you can download and games you can play. Share the drive with your entire family.

Cons:

Not Dual Band - It isn't dual band, but i don't need it so it does not bother me.

Summary:
This is a real find. Never heard of this company before, but I am very impressed with this product.

5Bright HD Projector For Man Cave
By RJ
Over the past 10 years, this is the third and best projector I have installed in my basement recreation room.
Previous projectors included an XGA LCD projector displaying on a 92" diameter, fixed frame, 16:9, zero gain screen. I did have black bars top and bottom that became annoying so I updated the projector to a DLP model with an anamorphic lens. The second projector was great - much better ANSI contrast and more realistic color display than the LCD model. Over seven years, brightness faded and I decided to buy a new projector instead of purchasing a replacement lamp for $450(!).

I was torn between the Optoma HD25 and HD25-LV knowing that with higher brightness color fidelity would suffer a bit. In my recreation room I often leave reading lights on in the seating area (away from the screen) and full lights on in the back room, so the higher brightness projector made sense. Also, if I ever decide to view 3D videos or play 3D games a brighter projector helps to offset brightness lost when wearing 3D shutter glasses.

I am totally thrilled with the purchase. Contrast, color and brightness are HUGE improvements compared to my last projector.

Pros
Bright, really bright image
Contrast is amazing
Colors are good
Set up was easy, compared to previous projector with anamorphic lens

Cons
With lights off - image is too bright, but there is a setting that allows brightness to be dimmed
Fan can be heard during quiet scenes, but not as noticeable as my last projector - I did not notice the buzzing noise mentioned by another reviewer
Set up would have been easier with vertical and horizontal lens shift - I know this would add great expense to the projector so I opted to save $$$

So far, so good. I highly recommend the HD25-LV.

53D on this projector has to be seen to be believed
By Klaatu Barada Nikto
I bought this projector strictly for 3D use as I am still content with my Mitsubishi HC3800 for 2D. After much research, where I seriously considered projectors such as the BenQ W7000, the BenQ W1070, and the Acer HD6510BD, I settled on this one because of the extra lumens. I'm glad I did! The quality of the 3D is superior to my (much-loved) Optoma HD66. I can say with confidence that the 3D experience with this projector exceeds the movie theater experience. I've loved 3D movies for almost five decades, currently have more than 80 3D Blu-rays, and I'm now tempted to watch every one of them again. I highly recommend the Optoma ZF2100 RF glasses for use with this projector, as the RF glasses never lose sync, even in very bright scenes, a problem I occasionally had with DLP-Link glasses. (I understand that the eStar ESG6000 glasses, which are less expensive than the Optoma glasses, are also highly regarded.) As mentioned elsewhere, be sure to purchase glasses that support 144hz.

I've watched six 3D movies from beginning to end thus far and I can only describe the 3D as flawless. Zero crosstalk, perfect sync, and the emitter even figures out the correct 3D polarity so I have not needed to "flip" the left-eye right-eye sequence (normally something that is only needed at the very beginning of viewing). I took a long time to figure out the best projector I could get for a reasonable price, and I could not be happier!

5HD25-lv
By Tim
Upgraded from the HD33 optoma, to this one to get the brighter screen and better contrast.
Not much to really say if you already have an HD33. THe HD33 had a red tint when in 3d mode and the fan was on high, so a bit of noise going on.

The HD25-lv is relatively quiet when in 3d. The fan is bit noisier, not much to worry about, but compared to the HD33 which is nearly silent in normal mode. So a bit of a trade off.

Definately worth the money, however one problem, i had to purchase optoma's dlp-link glasses, the high end ones to work on it, my RF glasses which worked on the HD33 wouldn't work on this one.

sooo, a bit pricey until i can find some low end ones that will work.

5Great for staying organized
By Matt
I bought this item to help me reorganize my home filing cabinet and other documents. Having a printed-out label instead of a hand-written one helps a lot more than I thought it would. It's great to be able to print them as I need them, instead of waiting until I have enough to do a batch job through my computer printer.

I chose this labeler instead of others because of the price and ease of use, and I'm happy with my purchase. Even though I only use one style, this labeler has a variety of fonts and styles in case I ever need them. There are also a bunch of pictograms and borders that can be used to decorate the labels.

It doesn't take up much room in a drawer and its desk footprint is pretty small. It's a bit too bulky to carry around on the job, so consider your needs before buying.

The only downsides I've come across are that it uses 6 AAA batteries, which can get expensive. There is an AC adapter available for it, although I think any 9V AC adapter from an electronics store should do the trick - please correct me if I'm wrong on this.

Second, when printing labels, there seems to be a lot of extra room in the margins, which is wasteful considering how expensive the tapes can be. I've looked at a lot of labelers and they all seem to have this issue. The workaround I use is to set the margins as small as possible, then set it to "Chain Print" and do as many at the same time as I can.

I bought mine from an office supply store, and I see that it's a bit cheaper to buy it through Amazon. The refill tapes are also a lot cheaper through Amazon. I'm thinking of buying a second one of these for my office.

1Wasteful
By James
I hope the people at Brother read this review.

Apparently, they think they have a smart system to sell more tape/ink by leaving a one inch space on both ends of each label. This creates a giant 2 inches of extra space on each label you print. You cannot change the margin to less than 1 inch.

Not only do you have to buy more labels over time, but it makes the label making process time consuming and cumbersome. You have to manually trim each label to get it to fit on a standard file folder or to suit other purposes. When you're in the middle of a project, you'll often need to make a lot of labels. This aspect defeats the purpose of getting a label maker to help you make labels efficiently.

The reality is that this wasteful business strategy is probably not profitable for Brother because I took the thing back to the store and got my money back. Now I won't be buying ANY labels from Brother in the future. There are several other reviewers on this site that did the same.

Plus, these negative reviews are not helping Brother sell label makers to new customers.

I bought a Dymo LabelManager 280 instead and found the margin to be more reasonable.

The other thing that this label maker needs is an included AC adapter. The one they sell costs $20 which almost doubles the label maker's cost. You'll want an AC adapter because putting, "get batteries" on your task list every time you want to use the label maker for a project is also counter-productive. For me, I bought a label maker to increase productivity, not add more hassles.

If Brother would correct these two easy things, this would be a nice label maker.

1Uses too much tape
By Adam M. Conway
While the printer works fine and is priced right the overuse of tape is inexcusable. Basically it leaves a huge space before the printing and a huge space after - this has 3 effects
1) more than doubles to triples your tape usage which costs more $$$ to use (also lines Mr Brother's pockets)
2) means that you have to go back afterwards with scissors and cut the label so that it is not ridiculously large - this is a big waste of time and means that if you are walking around making labels (as I do) you must carry scissors
3) If you believe that we live in a world of scarce resources, isn't this just plain wasteful?

5Great Value
By cliffhokie
If you're like me, you HATE monthly reoccurring charges, such as cable, insurance, cell phone companies (I'm looking at you Verizon), etc. Why burn money every month on reoccurring charges? I like to have controlled costs and very little "renting" reoccurring charges. But, I also have a family and like to feel secure, along with getting the home owners insurance discount often offered with home security systems. I've used ADT, Brinks, Broadview, etc. at prior homes. However, when I moved, I wanted to avoid having a land line (cell signal is virtually radioactive in my house, even in the basement). However, the biggest problem I had was that most companies charged ridiculous rates for their wireless monitoring service ($5 additional was the cheapest I could find). In addition, the base monthly rate was fairly high, averaging about $35 (ADT was charging me $45 w/o the wireless), with Ackerman coming in the cheapest at $18 (w/ wireless, they were $23/month). I thought about using Ackerman because I preferred a "professional" doing the job, much like when I had ADT. But, when I experienced their sales rep, lack of customer service, and overall horrible experience, I knew they weren't a legit company I wanted to trust my home and money to. ADT and all of the other more high profile personal home security companies were far too expensive and I would either have to get a home line or pay extra monthly. So, I looked into "Do it yourself" home monitoring and found this company along with two others (one is sold at Lowes). This one seemed to have the best monthly price, price of equipment, and reviews, so I decided to bite the bullet and give it a try despite my hesitations of the unknown.

I've now used this system for several months, and here are the pros and cons:

Pros:

There is no shady sales person that comes to your house, that refuse to give you a solid quote over the phone, only to upcharge you DURING the install and after you sign the contract. This is what Ackerman security tried to pull on my wife and myself and exactly why we cancelled our contract (which they tried to tell us we couldn't). Other companies weren't as shady, but still made obvious attempts at upselling through scare tactics. With this system, what you buy is what you get, no hidden monthly costs or "after-the-fact" purchases. You order through a simple online system completely a la carte, or you can start out with the starter kit (perfect for an apartment) and then add on. You can also call in your order. You then have only one of two monthly possible charges, the basic monitoring which I got (exactly the same as my prior monitoring through the big name companies) where they call you and ask for the code when your alarm is set off, or the slightly more expensive version where you also get text alerts and smartphone app support (I think it is $25/month). Either way, the price is CHEAP. I pay $15 a month. That's it. No upcharge, no extra wireless charge, etc.

They are constantly improving their options. They now have flood detection, a more high tech base with more capabilities, and I'm pretty sure they have several other options to include video monitoring coming up as well as carbon monoxide detection, etc. If they don't have it now, wait a few months, they are always adding options. And best of all, you only have to pay for the equipment. For most like me, they have all of the basic equipment you need such as a panic button, remote, keypad with LCD display, motion detectors, window and door sensors, etc.

Price is almost the same as the "included" equipment with ADT, Ackerman, etc. The problem with the big companies is that they almost always offer supposedly "free equipment", but it is only the keypad, remote is NOT included, and a couple sensors, usually two or three, and maybe a motion detector. Most houses have at least six windows and two to three doors that need sensors. At my last house, I had to shell out $350 extra on top of the "free" equipment to equip my first floor and walkout basement doors and windows. What if you buy a house that already has an alarm system? At this house, it was already equipped with an ADT alarm, which Ackerman claimed they could use and save us money, but after signing the contract, the installation guy tried to charge $300 more for "additional equipment" needed to make it work and supposed faulty sensors. All this was told to us AFTER the installation guy to put in the new computer. News flash, the sensors in traditional wired home alarms are only two magnets with a wire going back to the brain. Why was he a) saying they were broken when they clearly weren't and b) charging $50 per unit?!?!? Anyway, this is just a perfect example a bogus upcharges you get with these companies trying to make an extra buck at your expense. I paid $400 for my entire basement and first floor coverage, to include 14 windows, three doors, the base, the digital key pad, detector, and remote (love having a remote!). I can add additional stuff at any time and the equipment is very competitively priced. It's more money up front for most, but honestly, I paid $100 more than my next best option and I own the equipment myself. Even if you didn't have to pay anything whatsoever from the other company for the equipment and installation, which is highly unlikley, your monthly charges will equal out in less than two years in most instances through companies like ADT (except for Ackerman). At only $100 difference, I paid the difference in compared to Ackerman's $23 wireless service in one year. Over the course of several years, you will make up for what you pay for your Simplisafe system many times over.

What people don't realize is that often, when your alarm is set, the call center that calls you is outsourced. These call centers usually provide alarm call center services to all the competitors. Because they use a certified call center, you get an Insurance certificate that you can use to get a home owners discount, just like ADT, Vector, Ackerman, etc. And best part, one time, when we accidentally set off our alarm, I asked the guy if this was the call center from SimpliSafe, he said he didn't know, they provided service to Simplisafe along with several other companies and listed off five other companies, including... ADT! It was some call center in Jersey. Anyway, same service, same discount, no big name company needed.

As I mentioned before, if you live in an area with decent cell signal, you don't need a land line with this! Has worked flawless so far for us.

The price is AMAZING!!! I saw only one company offer something cheaper, the one from Lowes (forget their brand they carry), but the reviews I saw weren't very good regarding the equipment, it lacked the diversity of equipment and services, and the cost saving was only two or three dollars a month. Otherwise, I am coming in a LOT cheaper than going through a major company. Must have made my neighbor upset, since he is an ADT sales rep.

There is no contract. At all. EVERY other company I called from the major retailers required at least two years to "subsidize" their installation and you couldn't get out unless you moved the service, require installation at the new place and a transfer fee. Some were as many as three years commitment. What if you move before then? With SimpliSafe, NO CONTRACT!

If you want, you can use your alarm without the monthly call center service, maybe you hit hard times or are moving, etc. Turn it off for a month or more, then turn it back on whenever you want!

You can move the equipment and service with you wherever you want. This is great for military families or renters.

Set up is EASY. Took me 30 minutes for a 4000 sq ft home, and I was taking my time to be careful. Units are preprogrammed before delivered.

OK, I know, this sounds stupid, but it's so true. I hate calling customer service lines, and while their customer service line has been perfectly fine when I've had to call them, their Facebook page is awesome! They honestly read all the comments and respond with answers to questions and solutions to problems. I wouldn't suggest this for major issues, but honestly, great resource, I rarely see other companies put the time and effort into their Facebook and timely customer feedback (usually get answers in a couple hours in FB). They also list new product announcements on there.

Online access to account, sensors, alarm history, changes to your system functions, etc. You don't have to go through a stupid key pad with either a tiny LCD screen and only numbers, or worse, only blinking LEDs to tell you you did something right or wrong.

Cons:

The equipment felt a little cheaper relatively, not quite as quality as some other companies, most notably in the window/door sensors. Additionally, they use one AA battery in each sensor, so the sensors are relatively LARGE on one side. I do like the blue indication LED on them that blinks when the unit opens or closes, but overall, they aren't very low profile like wired sensors from ADT, etc. This became a problem with some of our windows which have the larger wood blinds that rub up against the sensors. The equipment works perfectly, but you can't help but notice that they are a step below in aesthetic and ergonomic quality.

The way they get around having individual installation capable without professionals is that each unit is battery powered, so no drilling and running wires. However, this means that every sensor has batteries. Batteries have to be replaced every five years. The good news is that they come with lithium AA batteries, and they are easily replaceable. However, this is a little bit of a hassle if you have a lot of doors, etc., and have to replace them all in five years. However, 30 minutes every five years for free installation? The base is wired and carries a couple day charge should the power go out. This is good, because you don't have to worry about losing functionality in the event of a power outage. However, this is still a little bit of a hassle and sensors like the main door will probably have to be replaced sooner than others that get triggered rarely. The good thing is the base tells you when a sensor is out.

In addition, to make the install easier, they use 3M adhesive tape on the backs. Mine have stuck perfectly thus far, but I would much prefer a sturdier way to install for those of us willing to put in the extra time, something involving nails/screws. I don't know what the longevity of 3M is, but I will keep my fingers crossed on this one.

The base unit isn't loud as I'd prefer. This might be fine for a smaller house or apartment, but for a larger house, you can't hear it that well from other floors. They do have an optional louder speaker that is more than loud enough (almost too loud), I just wish that they had offered a little more decibels in the base unit.

I like the fact that the base unit has a backup battery and love the blue LED indicator. However, I don't like the aesthetic style and it has to be within a certain distance from the key pad. I wish the base had a better range to communicate with the key pad so I could put it in a more discreet location, some people may not have a lot of flexibility in where to put this unit.

This isn't really their fault, more of a warning for those that order without reading the details from the company that are advertised on their page. They do say this isn't meant for large homes. I'm stretching the limits of this units range with my 4000 sq ft home (3000 on two floors and 1000 in a finished basement). I think they suggest 5000 sq ft is the max recommended for the sensors to communicate with one base. It works fine for mine, but any larger and this might pose a problem. I believe I have a fairly large house, but obviously, there are ones larger than mine.

Remote works, but the USB cap is poorly designed, it will not stay on. This is minor, and doesn't affect functionality, but it does make the remote look a little cheap with the cap missing, looks like a large USB stick on your keychain.

You MUST have good T-Mobile cell signal where you are. Mine is ridiculously good, but you really just need decent signal. If you are really rural where cell signal is nonexistent, wireless might not be an option for you. You can plug it in via Ethernet chord or phone line as well, if I'm not mistaken, and still enjoy a low cost alternative to the big companies.

You don't have as much customization options such as allowing for certain home functions like setting the alarm to only go off with certain sensors at certain times, etc.

Conclusion:

Okay, so the lists look similar in length. However, most of my gripes in the cons are either warnings for certain customers that won't be able to use this, or, minor ones, ones involving aesthetics and ergonomics, not so much in functionality. I gave these mostly as a "heads up" to individuals. The truth is, I have zero regrets with this system. It works, it works well, there is zero fluff, they advertize what it does and doesn't do, and honestly, I basically get everything I got from the other companies, more in some instances since they are all about technology improvement and are constantly upgrading their equipment. If I have to sacrifice a couple minor things such as larger sensors or minor aesthetic or ergonomic flaws for all the benefits I get, count me in! LOVE IT! And best parts, no contract, commitment, shady sales guy, and the monthly price is AWESOME. I feel that I have a lot of perspective in this too since I've used several other companies before, all traditional type services. I would recommend this to anyone that fits in the categories I have mentioned needing an alarm. If you aren't frugal and don't mind wasting your money on more expensive monthly systems that lock you in, go for it, there's a sucker born every minute. Otherwise, buy this system!

*Update: Correction, it isn't AA lithium batteries, it is CR123A. Looks like AA, but not as common. Bad news, it costs $4.95 per battery! through SimpliSafe. Good news is Amazon has these batteries through companies like Energizer for $12 for an eight pack.

*Update 2 (1/7/14): Year and a half and going, here is the update so far. The base station does use AA's while the sensors use the CR123A. This comes in handy because the base pad batteries have already had to be replaced once due to low power after approximately 9 months. Uses 4 (I think) and are definitely cheaper (I purchase a ton at Costco at a time anyways for all of my remotes). I'm not sure if I had to replace them this early because it is the most used device (I use the keypad everyday) or because their original batteries were cheap knockoff brand, or both. I'm hoping my lithium batteries in next will last over a year ($1 a year investment). Replacement was dead simple. Pull off wall (plate stays behind), replace, pop back on wall plate. The sensors still work (I did have to reposition one because it was not close enough). The system works as I can attest to after accidentally setting it off several times myself and also while someone was housesitting once and I always get a call from the security company asking if everything is ok. Definitely a great product so far. If something goes wrong that will make me think otherwise, will be sure to update.

4Excellent Alternative but far from perfect!
By J_Onyx
I write this from conviction that people thinking of investing in this alarm system alternative need a more thoughtful review than the many here who quickly post a gushing review and the few who post nonsense negative reviews.

1st Simplisafe is easy to install yourself and it is a quality budget alternative to the big alarm system companies (who rely on less than ethical sales methods) who relieve people of a few thousand dollars and lock them into an expensive 2 to 3 year monitoring contract.

The hardware is easy to install and get working & for less than $400 most people can seriously discourage felons from targeting their home. Simplisafe is much more up front & consumer oriented than other alarm companies BUT Simplisafe sales department does do its share of hype & exaggeration. You cannot install the sensors & motion detectors in the mindless simple way you are lead to believe. If you slap them up in a few minutes, you will regret it. Take a few minutes and determine the best places to position the sensors & detectors.

The advertising shows people just mindlessly sticking sensors and detectors around their house. Then, in response to criticism that people report their senors or detectors fell off, Simplisafe blames it on the owner for not (dah...) cleaning the area first. Even that is hype because cleaning is not enough. It's not wise to just rely on the sticky tape for the heavier pieces, especially the keypad and the motion detectors. Simplisafe techs know this which is why each sensor has a removable installation panel with two screw holes and screws.

There are two significant flaws in the Simplisafe system which Simplisafe advertising and information tip toes around and buyers do not realize until after they buy and install their system. I'll bet many long term Simplisafe owners still do not know about the flaws.

FLAW NUMBER ONE IS THE ENTRY SENSOR. They are excellent for your outside doors but inadequate for windows. The problem? Unlike the wired big alarm company alarm systems, Simplisafe sensors are "one size fits all" but what is good for a door is not good enough for windows. The 21st century home B&E is smash and grab. Unless you live in a high end home in an upper income neighborhood, you are at risk for an amateur smash and grab break-in or the new wave home invasion. Your break-in felon is most probably full-time party animals feeding some drug habit lifestyle. They usually break or cut windows, not carefully pry them open or try windows until they find one they can open. Simplisafe entry sensors work only when a door or window is properly opened.

Its best to use the motion detectors to cover entire rooms and their windows and use the entry sensors just for doors. You may also want to consider NOT using the SIMPLISAFE signs but buy ADT or Brinks signs and decals instead. Some party animal groups think their way to researching alarm systems on Internet and they know about cell phone apps that they can use to monitor police radio activity. Ann Arbor, Michigan just arrest a gang of four such felons. Alarms didn't stop them. A member was stopped with stolen property in his car. He told on the others so he could get off easy.

SECOND FLAW IS THE Alarm. It Is REMARKABLY WEAK! Do not simply rely on the ineffective alarm that comes in the base unit or simply on monitoring services. When seconds count, the police are always minutes away and their budgets are being seriously cut at the same time property crime is soaring. Buy the "extra siren" & mount it outside. The siren irritates the entire neighborhood. The felon isn't going to risk that rare neighbor who cares enough to look and call the police. Consider adding a wireless security camera. Mine sends condensed video to a remote 30 day DVR.

There are unemphasized positives about Simplisafe, namely the keychain remote. It includes a panic button which instantly sets off the alarm and launches the call center into action. Monitoring is only 14.99 a month. For an elderly relative living alone the panic button alone is worth the cost of a Simplisafe System. Seniors can use it to live more safely and 14.99 a month for home alarm, personal safety and health is a real bargain. Those EMT service call button services (Call for help) alone cost $40 or more a month!

4Great system if you do your homework
By JD
I installed this system on 06/14/2013. I did a bunch of research and found many of the online reviews to be dated and inaccurate since the new SimpliSafe2 came out in 2012. I absolutely love the system but if you don't think through your purchase you might be disappointed. Let's talk about the gotchya's:

1) Buy extra sirens! The base unit comes with an 85db siren and if it's the only one you have then the thieves will know EXACTLY where to find it and smash it before your 30 second entry delay is up. Extra sirens will beep on the entry delay and when in full alarm sounding mode they will drown out the base siren and the thieves will be less likely to find your base station and destroy it before the signal goes out to the monitoring company.
2) Buy extra motion sensors for rooms with your most vulnerable windows. If a thief smashes a window the entry sensor will never trip since it never moves. Security is always best in layers! I chose to add motion sensors for my doors as well so I have TWO layers of detection on all my most vulnerable entry points.
3) The cellular network used by SimpliSafe is T-Mobile. Make sure you've got a good signal. I'm in the middle of a major city so this is not an issue.
4) The wood screws that come in the package are not good for mounting entry sensors on steel/metal doors. You might need to make a trip to the hardware store for appropriate screws if you don't want to use the double sided sticky tape provided with the equipment.

Now let's move on to unadvertised, yet complained about, issues:
1) All new equipment can be mounted with screws. Take the extra time to screw things in. It will help prevent false alarms from stuff falling off doors and walls and the purpose of your system is to protect your life and property. The tape is good but screws will always be better.
2) The system is AMAZINGLY flexible and the website is awesome! Each sensor is unique and can be given a name. They can also be set to instantly trigger the alarm whether in home or away mode OR just send an SMS/E-mail when triggered. You can change the time of the entry delay for home or away mode. Sadly there is no exit delay for home mode which kinda sucks if you're leaving the house and your spouse and/or children are still inside. Eh, I have the $25 monitoring package so I can set home mode from my smart phone... The app is great too!
3) Only the base station talks to you. It would be nice if the keypads talked/beeped too.
4) The SMS & email alerts are fantastic. You can add as many as you like.
5) After it's all installed it takes the company 72 hours before they will begin to dispatch police for alarms. They call this a "Practice Mode". At first I was a bit irritated but after a couple days I learned to appreciate it. I accidentally triggered my alarm a few times because I forgot to take it out of home mode when I walked out a door. I've learned... thanks to the practice.

Conclusion:
SimpliSafe went out of their way to respond to customer complaints and address those issues in the SimpliSafe2. They also went out of their way to make the system easy to install and operate. It's really simple and intuitive. The setup CD had step by step instructions. I sent an e-mail with a question and they responded in a timely fashion. The website is incredibly easy to use and a very powerful control system for the alarm which was an unexpected surprise. Do your homework, be thoughtful about how and where you place your sensors, and you too should have a good experience with this system.

5Does what it is supposed to
By Kyle
I do not normally write reviews, but this might help someone. I am a graduate student and a bit of an audiophile. My father has always had a very nice and expensive integrated stereo system and I tend to have a critical ear given that I am a more classically trained musician playing in the world’s longest continually touring ensemble. I love to listen to almost any type of music so this review is not particular to any one type (sorry).

Being a student, I do not have a lot of money to invest in stereo equipment. Recently many of my had-me-down electronic units have come to the end of their lives, i.e. within weeks of each other my TV and stereo died. The new TV I purchased emitted a high pitched tone that gave me a headache after 30 minutes of video games or just watching an episode of something. I bought this unit so that I do not have to listen to the small TV tweeters. This unit does the job very well for the price and size of it. I can play or watch TV without pain and I can turn the volume up while walking around the house and still hear it without it being obnoxious. It is compact so it does not take up much room in my small living quarters.

If you are looking for something to blow your mind playing Shostakovich, Eric Church or anything really, then you should not be looking at small units like this in the first place. I can see this being perfect for college dorms, smaller rooms, bed rooms, offices or anywhere you just need a little music in your life without going overboard.

For anyone interested, I could not find much in the way of specification on this unit. There are two line-in ports for the left and right speaker to plug into, there are not additional power cables. There is an additional stereo line in to plug you iPod, TV or whatever else to play your music (looks like a normal headphone jack). The speaker cables are only about 29 inches long stretching them out so if you plan on placing them further apart you are going to have to buy additional audio lines. There is an alarm setting, which I found nice, CD player, nothing special, display dimmer, and AM/FM tuner. The power cord has two prong AC end (just in case you live in certain dormitories).

This is a decent unit that is not terrible to listen to and is worth the 40$. I think it would work nicely in college or small use. Some people seem quick to judge small units (maybe not this one, but other) because they do not rattle the rafters.

I hope this helped someone!

5Very nice small CD/Radio Player
By Teresa
I bought this unit for a fairly small opening in an entertainment center. I thought that a boombox would look tacky, and this unit had the look that I wanted. I was replacing a much more expensive, 6 CD unit, I believe it was a Sony, that, after a year or so, refused to open, and I had to pry my CD's out. I didn't want to spend too much, just in case a newer player would malfunction in the same way. First off, I was amazed how quickly this CD player/radio arrived. It was very easy to assemble, just plug in the speakers. It fits perfectly in the space I had for it. After reading some negative reviews here about the sound quality, I am pleasantly surprised that my CD's sound as good as they did on the larger, more expensive unit, which had much bigger speakers. It only holds one CD, but it isn't that big a hardship to get up and change discs. I would recommend this player for anyone who wants a smaller, attractive CD/radio. Oh yes, I was also pleasantly surprised to find that the AM/FM radio is excellent, and picks up the stations I want to listen to.

5Great sound!
By cstines82
Very small but still has a great sound even at its highest volume level. Seems to be a durable product. I love the alarm clock feature. You can set it to come on as radio or the "buzzer" sound.

5Great Reciever
By CarlosOU
I recently upgraded from an older receiver to this one, the sound improvement was immediately noticeable. Great receiver for the price. May get a 2nd one for the additional living room.

5Just what I needed
By TruthMaster
I'm no audiophile, admittedly. But I'm super happy with this receiver. Easy setup, sounds great through my speakers. All functionality works properly. I like the extra bass option, and it has Dolby Digital Plus so my Roku can play Netlix movies in 5.1 sound. Your receiver must have Dolby Digital Plus or Roku only plays Netflix in stereo, not 5.1.

5Great performance for a refurbished device
By Y. Talavera
This is my second Yamaha receiver purchased in the past few years. The first was new and I am extremely happy with it in my home theater system in the living room. I've started with Yamaha and stuck with them. It began when my best friend showed me how well the audio sounded on his gaming PC back in 2000-2001.

I purchased this one (RX-V375 refurbished) to use in my new PC build in the office / man cave. No complaints at all. I am 100% satisfied.

3Firmware and App needs a lot of work.
By Gaucho
Installed the Wemo Light Switch easily enough. As other reviewers have stated, a neutral wire is required. Also, the size of the front of the switch is the same as your regular Leviton switches, so if you are replacing one of those your face plates (including a double face plate for 2 different switches which is what I have), it will fit. The rear of the switch, is definitely bigger than the rear of a normal light switch so it does make a tight fit inside the wall box. Overall, I think it is a decent device but Belkin has some updating to do, per the rest of my review.

Pluses:
* Design looks good
* When light switch is on, there is small power light to show it is "on"
* Once it is connected to your network, the remote access via the App is a nice feature

Cons:
* When connecting to your wi-fi router, you cannot have any special characters (like: !?*&) or any spaces, in your typically already set up router password; Example: your password cannot be "john doe" and instead has to be "johndoe" without a space. If you have these, it will not connect to your router!!! Belkin needs a firmware / App update to fix this ASAP.
* When you are loading a rule to your Wemo Switch, let the App completely finish before doing anything. This means waiting...don't try and rush anything because you can bork your device. My first Wemo light switch died because of this (after just 1 day of use!), as I tried to change its name from "Wemo Light Switch" to something like "Porch Light" and it did not load right, and killed the switch where I could not access it at all from the App (after 4 + hours of troubleshooting, resetting, restarting, re-installing the App, etc.); ultimately I had to just replace it with a new Wemo light switch that is working for now.
* Timer based rules do not always work; Example - I tried to create a rule where the switch turns on at 8:30 p.m. and turns off at 2:30 a.m. Saved the rule and the rule loaded to the device. After saving, etc., the rule mistakenly says to turn off at 2:30 p.m. = it got the a.m. and p.m. reversed for the turn off setting. Tried this several times and it would not save correctly, no matter what. Instead I am just using the "sunset" to "sunrise" settings which did save correctly. Again, a future firmware update should fix this.
* On Android, the WeMo App is slow, very slow (even if on a strong wi-fi or on a strong LTE signal which I have). The Android WeMo "Beta" App has the same exact functionality, but it is a little bit faster. So if you are on Android, use the "Beta" App.
* Belkin needs to allow a computer browser interface, not just by an IOS or Android App. I am comparing this to my Nest thermostat, which does have a computer browser interface plus an App, and is generally a much more polished device.

Conclusion - for now it's just a decent device. Even though it is not the first in the Wemo line, I would consider it a first generation device. I would rate it 2.5 stars for now, and if my second switch does not fail then maybe 3.5 stars. If Belkin improves firmware and the App, then it has the potential to be a 4+ star device but it is not there yet.

See, [...] for a Wemo community forum where you can see a wide variety of issues for troubleshooting this and other Wemo devices.

1Worked well for ~2 months
By Erick
I bought 4 of these light switches about a month after they were released. I had been adding motion detector lights, dusk-to-dawn lights, etc., to both improve energy efficiency and safety in my house. My purchase was designed to move further toward both of these issues, along with a new Kwikset lock and some security cameras.

Installation was relatively simple, even for someone who is not an electrician. As long as you have the proper wires and follow instructions, as other reviewers have mentioned, installation should not be too difficult (check before ordering though). Connecting to the WiFi was also not difficult for me. I have a Linksys router in the basement with a Linksys range extender upstairs and WeMo did not have any problems connecting when I followed instructions. The initial firmware update took quite a long time and the initial iPhone app version that I downloaded was *very* slow to detect the switches each time I loaded the app, but they seem to have fixed the latter issue.

Once it was all setup, I LOVED it. I used IFTTT to automatically make sure lights were turned off at night and on in the morning, among other things. I really like the look of them and changed out many of my fan switches and other switches to the decorator-style to make it look even nicer. Really, really like the look of them, although I could see it not fitting as well in certain instances (I am definitely not an interior decorator). I do wish that these would work with 3-way lights (where you have two light switches that control the same light) or as dimmers, but unfortunately they don't.

Here's the problem: two days ago, the power to the router went out for about 30 seconds, then turned back on. The internet and WiFi loaded fine and all of my devices worked fine - except two of the 4 light switches could no longer connect to WiFi! They would both just blink orange non-stop. I tried all of their support instructions on their website, which was minimal, and included resetting and restarting the device. Of course, now one of the switches started blinking green and I could no longer even turn the lights on manually. So I caved and called their support number (difficult to find, but calling the corporate headquarters 800-number routed me to support).

Here is where it got really frustrating because, among other things, the person on the line spoke very poor English. It took about 35 minutes to get through the initial questions around model number, what lights were blinking, when I purchased the product, etc. In between each question, she would tell me to "hold on a second" and mute her line, before often (at least 10 times, no exaggeration) returning and asking me a question I had already answered. Multiple times, she forgot to mute her line and I heard her joking with her friends. But, OK, I only hold Belkin partially accountable for that. After over an hour, and having me try everything I already tried, she finally said she would send me a new one. For now, I have two switches that cannot connect to WiFi and one that cannot even turn the lights on.

It is simply not worth all of this hassle just to be able to remotely turn some lights on and off. To make it worse: they only provide (poor) customer service for free for 90 days! After that, you have to pay to talk to someone. Luckily (unluckily?), mine broke after 60 days so I could get someone on the phone.

I really wanted to like the product, and I would have if there was some quality control or better customer support, but unfortunately for me it didn't work out.

5A great starter pack- a demo of how it's useful for me.
By RST
I am a little bit obsessed with the WeMo world. I have a ton of them in my house, on most lights, and a few of the motion sensors. I could go through the technical specs of the device, but others have done that. I'd rather give you an example of why it is useful to me, and how I use it. I have my kit and other WeMo switches set to:

Turn one living room light on from "dusk" (definable in the iPhone/Android app) until 10:30 p.m.
From 10:30 to 11, a different light stays on
From 11 through "sunrise" if I walk out of the bedroom door, and the motion sensor senses me, it turns on two lights in the living room
If motion is detected from 10:30 p.m. through Sunrise at my front door, it turns on "ALL OF THE LIGHTS!"

I also use one of these in the winter to turn on my Christmas lights (they plug in indoors), my Christmas tree at night, and other Christmas lights on by motion if I'm around.

The kit is incredibly flexible, and once you get one set up and on your wifi, it can be controlled while you are AWAY FROM HOME! The best part.

You can drive up to your house and turn the lights on before you go inside!

That all being said, I did have a couple of them be a little difficult to get on the wifi the first time. As soon as you connect them, they want to update their firmware/software. Once that's done, they work great. Be patient if you have a little difficulty on the first go, it will work and then be 100% reliable after that.

I hope this has helped you understand how and why to use the device and how it might help you.

UPDATE:

There is now a newer or different model of the wemo outlet control that can also track energy consumption. It is smaller overall, and has a touch sensor for the wifi. If you think you might be interested in that, you can find it here: Belkin WeMo Insight Switch, Control Your Electronics and Monitor Energy Usage From Anywhere with the Home Automation App for Smartphones and Tablets, Wi-Fi Enabled

5This is the one to order-love it!
By CDH
This was perfect. Affordable, included the home button and camera bracket. Exceptional quality. Order this!
A few pointers. The best video in my opinion was: [...] The only tool I ordered was this: B00792JJK4 It would have been nice to have the Apple Spudger (B00792JJK4 but was too cheap to order one. I used a cheap cap of a common ball point pen (one with a soft pocket clip) as my spudger, primarily for flipping up and closing the cable latches. I used a stack of credit cards as spacers underneath the glass from reattaching to the frame instead of guitar picks as shown in the video. I ordered the wifi antenna and cable for the on-off button but didn't need them. If you follow the directions and use reasonable care you likely won't need them. I did order and used the $6 digitizer plastic frame (B005Z1ZWEI super easy to put in. Was actually very easy, fun, and the ipad works perfectly.

A recommendation. If you are a father, be careful as this may slip you up in proper fatherly control and sensitive behavior. I was in the middle of the project when my 8 year old daughter came home from school. She loves her IPad 2 and wanted to see what I was doing. I was just at the point of reflecting the screen off the LCD. I was so preoccupied with unsticking and reflecting it, I didn't notice her putting her tiny fingers and touching the LCD panel. Well, after watching hours of youtube videos cautioning about touching the LCD surface, wearing gloves, etc. I was a little unempathetic in warning her to not touch the panel. Her heart was broken and off to the bedroom and underneath the bed. She hadn't done that in awhile. Took some time to coax her back to normal. Giving her the opportunity to turn it on for the first time and doing the testing of the digitizer, volume, home button and camera returned her being my princess. Don't let this happen to you! I think the most difficult part of the repair was putting the screws back into the lcd frame. I dropped one on the floor and took awhile to find it. It pays to be careful on the simplest steps. Also, took awhile to peel the inner screen protector off the digitizer before sealing it up. There was no tab, so I sicked my makeshift ball point pen cap and finally found an edge to peel up.

Great product.

If your child touches the lcd panel, those fluffy, soft yellow microfiber towels available at Costco with just a whiff of alcohol makes short time of them with just a little buffing.

By Jay G
I read all the reviews for this one and others.
The screen arrived quickly and undamaged. It does have the tape attached, but it is easy to miss as it is very thin and covered with clear tape.

Quality seems to be very good and it worked perfectly

Installation is a pain in the A$$, but thats an iPad issue.
If you are going to do this repair (its not terribly difficult) you definitely should purchase a outer frame and most definitely get a wifi antenna as you will very likely damage the one in the iPad when disassembling it

5Benq 1080st review
By Sally Ortiz
I have been searching for a projector since last black Friday. Over the past year I have had many models reach the top of my list. I did extensive research on all products, 3d glass, cables ect.... The end result was my purchase of the Benq 1080st. I can honestly say it was one of the best purchases of my life. It will truely change the way you watch TV or movies. I use it everyday for TV viewing and 3D movies. I have it about 7 feet from the wall and it displays about 140 inches. Think about that for a second....140 inches of 1080p glory.

Set up:
Very easy (took maybe 10min, most was moving calbe wires and stuff).
Anyone semi familar with an HD TV should have no problems navigating the menu on the Benq. Changing the colors, brightness and contrast will seem familar. Setting the lamp to the power setting is too easy (econo is still bright enough to use for everything). Setting the zoom and adjusting the focus is easy and fun to play around with. As with most other reviews I would highly recommend an additional sound system of some type.

Picture Quality:
The TV I replaced was a 46inch Samsung. I can honestly say this has a better picture. It is bright, crisp and clear. If you have some form of Comcast (Xfinity) most show are displayed in 720p. That is no fault of the benq but the original broadcast signal. Still looks really good. Any 3d movie rental on comcast is displayed in 1080i. That looks very close to movie theater 3D. Bluray and Bluray 3D display at 1080p. When I saw the picture for the first time in 1080p 3d, I laughed in hysteria because I could not believe my eyes! It was amazing! The nice thing about the benq is that every time you either change a channel or switch inputs, on the top left of the display it show the input source and image (720p, 1080i or 1080p). That is how I discovered Comcast was broadcasting in 720p and quick call in confrimed this. However you watch or whatever you watch the picture is going to be bright. Adjust the colors alittle and you have a great looking movie theater in your house.

The Benq 1080st projector itself:
Very good quality. The unit feels very well built. It looks nice and sleek. The fan noise to me is almost non-existant. It not nearly as loud as an Xbox 360. It does have a fan to keep everything cool and I would say it is not even as loud as a computer. Really it is a non issue. All the correct inputs are there. I even had a conversation with my friend on how the Benq must have been made so there would be no issues. The people at Benq must really looked at every customer complaint before making the 1080st. It is very impressive.

3D quality:
Very good. At first in to be very honest I was not too impressed. Then I adjusted the brightness down and contrast up, changed the gamma level and adjusted the CMYK color levels up by 12 on each.....my jaw dropped (changing these setting is very easy to do). It has good depth and is very clear. I bought the rechargable 3D glasses and would highly recommend them. The screen does have a red hue when your glasses are not on and 3D is playing, agian a non-issue. It is simply amazing lifting the glasses up on your face and then putting them back down and seeing how the 3D works. Regular boradcast 3D in 720p is not bad at all and if you do plan on gettig a 3D bluray play you will be amazed. No reason to ever to the movies again. I found myself constantly talking through the movie on how great it looked and how it doesnt seem fair to have this in my house.

Overall this is worth every penny. Every single person that has been lucky enough (lol) to see this in my house thinks I spent at least 5k on this projector. Thats what you get from Benq: big picture small price. I have read hundreds of reviews before my purchase of the 1080st. All I have to say is read this review and then buy it. You will be very happy you did. Enjoy!!

5My First, and I Love It
By Douglas L. Engelhardt
This is my first personal projector, otherwise I've only seen other people's and the ones I buy for work presentation setups. But I have to say, in my opinion it is absolutely fantastic, clear crisp picture that even manages to ignore nearly all the light pollution that comes from the door of my split level, the only exception is when the scene is super dark/black for obvious reason, if there is any real light to the scene, you really cant tell.

Like I said, the image is sharp a vivid, great brightness, everything just looks right, I pretty much feel like I have a 100in TV on my wall. Absolutely love the short throw, I have a moderately small man cave and on top of that I wanted to be able to do motion stuff with kinect, wii, etc. so I needed to be able to keep movements from getting in the way, mission accomplished, I can stand 4ft from my screen and not be in the way of the projection, giving me plenty of space to move around.

Other Notes:
+Runs very near silent, the only time I notice the fan is when there is nothing else to hear.
+Never used the built in speaker so can't comment but others make it sound like its decent, really though, if you're doing something like this, don't cheat yourself using built in speakers, get a real setup, even if its only like 2.1 or 3.1 or even just a sound bar(they make some pretty good ones these days).
+As others will tell you, adjustments are to account for angels etc are very limited so be careful and get it right.
+I don't feel I notice any of the classic projector visual oddities, I have a pretty nice fixed frame screen from Elite Screens. Check them out, good quality/price and they really aren't that hard to get put together. Manual isn't always 100% clear so be careful but its still pretty good.
+Haven't picked up glasses yet. Looking at some after I finish this review.

5Bring movie theater at your home..
By Amit
This is my first review on Amazon. Although, I keep buying many items from Amazon and I really liked few of them and were worth giving 5 star rating, none of the item impressed me so much to write a review. But I am so much impressed with this buy that I decided to write my 1st review.

I have already used Vivitek Qumi Q2 and IncrediSonic LED projectors. These are very small size portable projectors with long lasting LED lamp. Although these projectors project good quality image, they can not produce vivid colors. I use to feel like I am watching old days Eastman color movie.
LED technology in projector has still long way to get mature. For this reason, I decided to buy normal lamp projector even though such projectors are not very portable and requires costlier lamp replacements.

After about 2 months research I finalized buying either BENQ W1070 or W1080ST. Both projectors are same except throw distance. Finally I ordered W1080ST.
I got this projector on 23-Jan. It is manufactured in Nov-13 and has FirmWare ver. 1.04. It has backlit(red color) remote.

Here is my observation

1) Image quality is EXCELLENT with vivid colors and as good as what you see in movie theater. I am not using any screen and projecting image on bare wall.

2) Brightness is very good and I can watch movie with few lights on. But with all lights switched off, I feel like I am watching 120 inch LED TV.
Even in movie theater all lights are switched off for better viewing experience. So, do not set your expectations to unrealistic levels. LCD/LED TVs will always have better brightness than projector image.

I always use Smart Eco mode with brightness level 55 and than is more than enough.

3) Projector speaker produce loud enough sound and I am still using it while watching movies. But watching a 120 inch screen with inbuilt speaker is not a good idea and I plan to buy sound system to get a real movie theater feeling. If I connect projector to laptop using VGA cable then sound do not come from projector speaker(it will be from laptop speakers). If I use my chromecast then sound comes from projector speakers.

4) Projector keeps track of lamp hours used and you acn see it in menu.

Do not listen to professional reviewers who criticize this projector for light leakage, fan noise, rainbow effect. Earning bread and butter by criticizing every good product is their job.

5) My observation is that there is minute amount of light leakage but this projector produces image which is 1000 times brighter than leaked light and I won't notice leaked light even in dark scene.

6) Fan noise is very minimum. My laptop fan produces more fan noise than projector. Maybe projectors which are manufactured in Nov-13 might have lesser fan noise.

7) After watching 100 hrs of movies, I have not yet seen rainbow effect.

8) Remote works fine and it is not necessary to point remote at projector to operate it. Remote has "Light" button on right side and when I press this button entire remote gets illuminated with backlit red color light. Then I can see and press whatever button I want to use. This is nice feature till the time I get familiar with button locations.

I wish BENQ had provided USB port on this projector. They provided all kinds of input/slots but forget to provide a USB port. My Chromecast needs USB power and I have to keep laptop nearby to provide power to it. Projector has Mini USB B port and I need to check if I can power up Chromecast using mini USB B to USB female connector.

Finally, I am Very Happy with this purchase. The last time I was so happy when I was teenager and my father gifted me motor bike.
I already have recommended this projector to many of my colleagues.
