4Review: Canon PIXMA MG7120 Color Photo Printer, Scanner, Copier
By Neil E. Isenberg
Canon PIXMA MG7120 Black/White/Red/Brown Wireless Color Photo Printer with Scanner and Copier

OVERVIEW:
-----------

This is a new sweet spot for the Canon PIXMA line with a lot of bang for the buck. This is the replacement for the still produced MG6320. The MG7120 has only been available since August 2013.

PROS:
------

- One more color than the MG5420/MG5320 models, GRAY, just like its MG6320/MG6220 predecessors. GRAY is for improved black and white results and to better darken colors. I haven't seen the difference gray makes with color pages, but some reviewers can.

- Has an ETHERNET connection, allowing a solid, simple shared/network wired connection that stays up even when computers are down. Its predecessors MG6320/MG6220 have it too, the MG5420/MG5320 models do not.

- One of the few models that comes in WHITE (as well as BLACK, RED, and BROWN). The MG6320 before it started the white model option and it was a hit.

- Has a handy separate 4"x6" and 5"x7" PHOTO PAPER DRAWER at the front. The year old MG6320/MG5420 models have this too, the older MG6220/MG5320 models before that did not.

- Like the MG6320 before it, the MG7120 is a bit shorter/squatter than the earlier MG6220, which for some is a nicer form factor if on a desk and certainly if on a deep shelf, for example. The new design ditches the rear paper feed to help achieve its new shelf friendly size and form factor. Listed in a section below are some alternatives with rear/straight feed.

- The 250/251 ink tanks, a little over a year old now, for the MG7120/MG6320/MG5420 also come in an XL SIZE now which reduces the page cost significantly. The ink in the 250/251 tanks are the same formula as in the earlier 225/226 ink tanks according to Canon support.

- The touch screen content-sensitive interface of the MG7120 and MG6320 gets rave reviews, however, I find the old interface of the MG6220 just as easy, but the unanimity of positive reviews for it suggests it really is much better for many.

- For copying/scanning the top comes easily off just like the MG6320 (unlike the previous generation MG6220).

- The MG7120 (and MG6320 and MG5420 models) have 2x the number of black ink nozzles as their predecessors the MG6220/MG5320 models. This allows more efficient use of black ink and greater dot accuracy.

- See "vs. MG6320" section below for details on printing directly from mobile.

- With 10+ years of having a number of their products I have always found Canon to have great customer service, which for U.S. customers appears to be based out of Maryland and Virgina.

LESSER PROS:
-------------

- 5-15% faster printing for the MG7120/MG6320 than the older MG6220 depending on b&w vs. color, quality, etc.

- Can print directly from CF memory cards on the MG7120/MG6320 models, unlike the older MG6220, if that is important to you. In addition can print from most SD/MMC/Memory Stick/xD-Picture card types, as always.

- I am leaving out a laundry list of features and specifications you can read on the Canon site to keep the review focused on the big defining features/differences of this model.

CONS/WARNINGS:
-----------------

- This is new (Aug 2013) and as such can be expected to have more issues than after some time passes. On the other hand, this may just be an incremental modification to the MG6320 and so may not have this issue as much.

- These 250/251 ink tanks are different for these newer MG7120/MG6320/MG5420 models than for the previous generation and thus are at this time (late 2013), a little harder to find available at stores, especially in XL sizes.

- For copying/scanning, the lid telescopes up for books only to the thickness of around a cellphone, whereas the MG6220 telescoped up to around twice that. On the other hand the top COMES OFF easily now with the MG7120/MG6320.

- NO BUILT-IN FAX, if this is important to you in an all-in-one. Perhaps you want to get a dedicated fax machine of your choosing near a phone line anyways, however if you are looking for a built-in fax the MX922/MX892 printers have one.

- NO ADF (Automatic Document Feeder), if this is important to you in an all-in-one. The MX922/MX892 printers have an ADF.

- No straight paper path. If this is important to you, consider the rear-feeding models like the MX892 listed in a section below. Keep in mind that the certified paper weight for non-Canon paper is still 17#-30# for MX892 and 17#-28# for MG7120, so not that much difference. Even the old MG6220 rear feed recommendation maxed out at 28#. For Canon Genuine Paper the MG7120 is certified up to 78#.

vs. MG6320 (Its Predecessor):
-----------------------------

- NEW: The MG7120 will automatically turn on if it is off when a print request is sent.

- NEW: The grinding noise of the MG6320 a minute or so after startup appears to have been greatly lessened in the MG7120, it is much quieter during that process whether or not you are in quiet mode. It may have been resolved in newer MG6320's, too, I haven't heard.

- NEW: The MG6320 required a wireless router to print from a mobile device. The MG7120 has an Access Point Mode which allows direct printing to the printer without need for a wireless router.

- NEW: The MG6320 allowed you to print directly (no computer needed) from Picasa, Canon Image Gateway, and Google Cloud Print. The MG7120 now allows you to also download apps to the printer itself that allow printing directly also from Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, DropBox, Evernote, and more.

- There is a specification error online suggesting some changes in the photo paper drawer and MMC card compatibility, but these are misprints, they are the same. The MG7120 and MG6320 are very similar feature-wise.

NEW MODEL NUMBERS CONFUSION
(as of late 2013):
---------------------------------

- The MG5520 you would think replaces the MG5420, however the MG5520 4x6 photo printing can be 110% slower, the copying can be 30% slower, has lower max color resolution, has lower max scanning resolution, and can't print on CDs/DVDs. Thus for 5 ink MG series solutions, MG5420 may still be the sweet spot.

- The MG6420 you would think replaces the MG6320, however the MG6420 is missing the gray tank, has no Ethernet, 4x6 photo printing can be 110% slower, copying can be 30% slower, has lower max color resolution, has lower max scanning resolution, and can't print on CDs/DVDs. Thus it is really the MG7120 that is replacing the MG6320 in my opinion.

SUGGESTIONS TO CONSIDER:
----------------------------

- See below consideration to select it not to automatically shut-off to reduce ink wastage.

- Consider choosing to print "Grayscale" when color isn't necessary, this can lessen the amount of color layering to get black (though the use of grey and colors is not necessarily eliminated). Canon feels the black is better with more color layering, you decide :).

- If the GRAY and ETHERNET (MG7120/MG6320/MG6220) is for sure useless to you and you'd like a SMALLER FORM FACTOR, you might consider looking into the MG5420/MG5320, which are otherwise somewhat similar.

- Use Canon paper when you need optimal results with their ink, and test matte vs. glossy. Matte is much less expensive and may meet most of your needs. Let me know in comments if anyone finds a comparable quality and yet significantly less costly photo paper for this printer, I'd like to test it out.

- When doing black & white, for example text, consider choosing the HIGH QUALITY setting (and perhaps set it as the default) in the printer page set-up, it really makes a difference (though it is slower and uses more ink).

- The Canon site has lots of easy to find product comparison information for these inkjets, you might consider reviewing it before committing on a model. There are errors of omission suggesting differences that are not there, if important you may want to double-check with Canon.

- In case of POWER OUTAGE, it is sometimes necessary to unplug it for A FEW MINUTES and then plug it back in. This allows capacitor discharge. Thanks to Karen for the heads up on this in a comment.

- As soon as you can after getting your printer, print samples of full color, b&w, borderless photos, print on a DVD if that's important to you, etc. Determine if you have a lemon before you get too busy with other things so you can exchange for a good one while it is easy to do. These are complicated machines with lots of parts.

INK USAGE:
-----------

Anyone researching Ink Jet Printers will likely be concerned about ink costs. Here are 6 things you can do to mitigate this with the MG7120:

- Buy the XL versions of the ink, this is supposed to reduce the cost per color page to a very competitive 13-14 cents per page (vs. 16-19 cents).

- As noted above, choose to print black and white or grey scale when that will do just fine. For some documents this can avoid black made from layers of colors. Canon says, for example, MS Word may print in black only with default text color but an Adobe graphics document not saved in a grey scale only format will likely use colors to try to faithfully reproduce the graphics.

- Turn off the automatic shut-off. Standby mode uses 1.0W, so on standby even all year uses around 9kWh/yr., so around $1/yr depending on where you live. This can help lessen the number of minute or so long cleaning routines as it runs around a minute after start-up and sometimes at shutdown. It runs the cleaning other times, too, which is good as it keeps ink from clogging.

- Avoid printing pages with solid or heavily colored background in color when possible.

- Some fonts use 20-40% less ink than others. According to a leading consumer magazine, Times uses much less than Arial which uses much less than Calibri, for example.

- Draft quality mode uses less ink than Standard (and is faster), and of course both use less ink than High quality mode. Note that text is much sharper at high quality.

NOTE #1: If there is no printing or cleaning routine at least once a month or so, select it to run a cleaning routine (easy to do) or turn it off and on to force it to once a month or so to keep the nozzles unclogged. If they clog talk to Canon support for what is often an easy solution.

NOTE #2: The MG6220, 2 quick generations back from the MG7120, had a low ink early warning bug. For example, when I take ink from a MG5320 and put it in a MG6220, the low ink warning bars show the ink as vastly lower. This helps exaggerate the appearance of high ink usage. Actual ink usage is high enough that this bug is pretty unwelcome. If it wasn't for a leading consumer magazine's highest photo quality rating for all-in-ones and their estimated page cost that wasn't crazy, and lots of other favorable reviews, I think this bug could have been much worse for MG6220 sales. This might make you feel better about MG7120's past lineage ink usage wise.

NOTE #3: Gray is supposed to go much faster than the rest, thus you wouldn't want to measure average speed of ink usage based on gray. I haven't tracked it in comparison to the other inks myself.

NOTE #4: Just an informative, probably not very useful factoid :). This model range of Canon inkjet doesn't do a big cleaning/purging after it prints, you are usually hearing head realignment. However, it does quietly "prime the head" to keep the heat from ink clogging the print head and this uses a little ink (even for B&W). This is much less ink than with the big cleaning/purging routine that is much rarer if you set the printer not to auto shut-off.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

INK USAGE CANON DATASHEET:
------------------------------

As it is pretty difficult to find, here below is Canon's published Page Yield per Document numbers (I rounded a little) for MG7120. It is the same as for the MG6320.

I'm not sure how much of the difference between these numbers and users experience is due to the minute or so cleaning routine, difference between test and real world usage, etc.

Here at least you can see real world expected usage ratio between standard and XL cartridges and compare to costs to determine the better value.

HOW MANY SHEETS DOES IT HOLD?:
-----------------------------------

- 80 sheets of standard 24# ink jet paper comfortably (tested).

- Supposed to hold 125 sheets of 20# (not tested). This is what most copier paper is. Some cheaper 20# has LOOSER FIBERS which is NOT AS INKJET FRIENDLY, I'd stick to paper with a surface designed for ink jets, which is usually also 24#. Of course, specialty Canon papers for photos or line art for inkjets are heavier (45#-93#).

- If using 28# paper, expect less than 80 sheets to fit, of course. Sheets whose surface is designed for laser writers are usually also 28#.

OTHER PRINTERS:

5Better than expected
By Alligator Jack
Had a Canon 4600 5 cartridge photo printer that printed beautiful photos exactly matching what I saw on my monitor. Also had a separate scanner that set on edge and was difficult to use. Decided to see if canon had an all-in-one that would take up less space on my desk and be able to scan easier. Checked Amazon as usual and found this wireless printer had just been released by Canon and was being carried by Amazon at a $35 promotion discount under their Prime free priority shipping program. Ordered one, put it on my desk in our bedroom, printed beautiful pictures and crisp email messages from my cell phone in the living room. Has one tray for 5x7 and 4x6 photo papers and another for letter, legal & envelopes. Tried everything. Everything works as well or better than advertised. Quality of photos and text exceptional. This may be due to the additional grey cartridge. Duplex printing quicker than my old printer. Also the printer has a quiet mode that I use. In fact, everything about this printer is better than any printer I have ever used. The installation instructions are precise, clear, easy to understand, and should be followed exactly. Do not try to wing it.
I liked this all-in-one printer so well I ordered and had one shipped free directly to each of 4 grandchildren as early Christmas presents. They love them too.
Just used printer for making a Hallmark birthday card for my wife. you only have to configure the printer once and it retains the configuration for future cards. Used Hallmark Program and Avery Card stock. Card printed beautifully. Colors accurate in colors and shading.

5The Whole Truth on ink cost (please read & save lots of money). Ideal versatile printer. Does everything, installs itself.
By Mad Max
We have tested a LOT of printers - and at one point or another, we have owned every brand of printer.

I really wanted the MG7120 because I loved the last Canon PIXMA I owned. A fantastic versatile machine, great output, slim profile, and super cheap operating cost. But alas, but kids dropped the printer...TWICE! And it still worked!!!...but that second fall broke off the paper tray, so I ended up giving it away.

So the bottom line is, I love the MG7120 even more. This is the first printer that works exactly the way it should. It basically installs itself, maintains itself, does *everything*, beautiful print quality, extremely low operating cost, and versatile enough for home or office.

Yes it has some drawbacks but that doesn't prevent me from giving it 5 stars.

I could talk all day about this printer but here are some highlights:

CLOUD PRINT
If you haven't discovered the world of cloud printing, I strongly suggest downloading Google Cloud Print. You can cloud print with any printer, but this model comes cloud-ready (easier to install/use).

Basically, you can print from anywhere in the world (as long as your printer is turned on). You can also print from just about any modern phone (with the cloud print app). This makes life easier, and it takes about 30 seconds to install Google Cloud Print on your PC, phone, or tablet.

INK
The cartridges that came with the printer have got to be starter cartridges. This was annoying, they only lasted a few days. I recommend ordering ink right away.

The 6th ink cartridge (gray) seems to be a fairly new thing. I can only find this ink in 5-packs (not 6-packs - they are missing the gray), so the gray has to be purchased separately. Not a huge deal since ink is so cheap. This will probably change soon, but just be prepared.

And here's the cost-saving tip for ink:

Modern generics are high-tech. Often, they use the exact same pigments (come off the same assembly line) & use the same chipsets, so the printer recognizes them (well, maybe 95% of the time).

Here's the catch: As I write this (November 2013) this is a fairly new Canon model, so there aren't that many generic inks available. Basically, right now there is one dependable company - Printronic (links below). But give just 2 months, and there will be LOTS more companies making these inks, and the cost will come down even more.

So today, these are the average prices I'm finding for ink replacement: $18.50 per 5-pack ($3.70 per cartridge) and/or $4.66 each per black cartridge (which are twice the capacity of the colors).

Here are two good deals for ink replacement: ASIN # B00DMGF2Z2 & B00EA55G1E. Again, just keep in mind, these prices will be dropping dramatically at the first of the year. And also keep in mind, prices on Amazon fluctuate almost daily.

Biggest Con:

This printer seems to take forever to do just about anything. It set itself up completely on its own...but it said it would take 6-7 minutes, and really took about 25 mins. Booting up takes several minutes. It self-cleans every so often, which interrupts printing & takes several minutes. Powering down takes almost a minute. I still think this is worth 5 stars, but be prepared for this minor annoyance.

Some other notes:

* Sheet capacity is only about 50 sheets, and since we're using in an office setting we're refilling frequently. But the paper tray is super easy to pull out & restock.

* Touch screen controls is super easy. We've never had to connect the printer to the computer via USB, and we've never had to tinker with drivers or settings - everything is on-board through the touch-screen control.

* Scans are quick & easy, scanner works exactly as it should.

* Copy mode is super easy. Just select "Copy" on the touch screen, then press the black/white or color button. One-touch copying for simple jobs, but it also has

* The "special" paper tray handles envelopes, photo paper, and a variety of other unique print jobs.

* With minor tinkering, you can get it to print legal size and also special jobs like CD/DVD printing (though I haven't tried this - you need a printable disc to do this).

* This is almost twice as heavy as the previous PIXMA, and the footprint is bigger. But the unit is still light enough to move around if needed, and the footprint isn't anything to complain about.

* A final note - I believe this unit is worth every penny, at around $150. But if you're not quite certain you need all the bells & whistles (like the cloud print, & the gray ink for quality black/white photos), there are some less expensive PIXMA printers that work just as well for most people. For a small step down, check out the MX922 (around $120). For a starter model, try the MG5420 (under $90).

Hope this helped you save some time & money. Good luck!

5Excellent product for those who know what they're doing!
By john
While I didn't order it through Amazon.com, I use this at work (IT Helpdesk) and could not be happier. Out of the box, easy hookup, worked perfectly, works great with my office Altigen VOIP phone system at work, not a single issue. Can control volume/mute without even looking at the device, no echoes, just great setup for those looking for a hands-free solution for work. Has multiple audio controls as well as wideband/narrowband audio switch. Yes you do not get a handset lifter to automatically answer, but seriously, read through and you would know that so all the reviews pointing that out, they didn't read the description. Keep up the great work!

5Dispatcher loves this.
By Amazon Customer
Dispatcher wanted a hands free headset so she was free to use the computer while on the phone.
This cordless unit was recommended by ShoreTel as a mate for the VOIP system we purchased from them.
Good Recommendation. Sound is clear and crisp. Cord free distance is more than adequate.
The unit runs all day on a battery charge.
Dispatcher is happy with the device on her head all day.
I'd say it's a winner.
Plantronics has been in the business awhile and knows what they are doing.

5Tested on Playstation 1, 2, and 3 games - it works GREAT on all of them!
By The Matrix Fan
Well folks, now that the dust has settled from the Sony vs. Immersion lawsuit, Playstation 3 owners are finally able to feel the vibe again!

I purchased this controller today and I knew the only way to properly road-test it was on the game that made the Dualshock famous, Metal Gear Solid. After booting up the game, I walked down the hallway and got spotted by a guard. As he shouted, "WHO'S THAT?" the controller jumped in my hand - and I knew this was a smart purchase. As the guards shot at me, I felt the feedback of the bullets, just as I had 10 years ago on my Sony Playstation.

I picked out another old school Playstation game, Tenchu: Stealth Assassins. From Ayame's blades to Rikimaru's sword, each sword swipe and jump had excellent feedback.

Okay, so my Playstation games worked out. But what about my Playstation 2 library?

I popped in God of War, knowing I had to feel the swing of the Blades of Chaos. The controller vibrations felt a little lighter here, but the vibrations still occurred at the appropriate times.

Then I chose Incredible Hulk Ultimate Destruction. Who better to test a vibration controller than the Sultan of Smash? All the power jumps and smashes had the vibrations intact, but they still felt a little on the light side.

All right, so far I was two for two with my Playstation and Playstation 2 test subjects. But what about my Playstation 3 games? Could I possibly hit a trifecta?

I put in Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and I decided to jump right into a heated firefight. The controller gave me feedback while shooting weapons and getting hit by enemy fire, but I knew my purchase was justified when Drake was near death: I FELT THE DUALSHOCK 3 PULSING IN SYNCH WITH DRAKE'S HEARTBEAT. It's one thing to hear that noise and know he's near death, it's quite another to feel the pulse in my own hands.

Okay, so the feedback on the older games was there, but a little lighter than I remember. The reason? Well, when I decided to go wireless on my Playstation 2 system, I bought a Logitec Dualshock controller. It turns out, that controller takes two "AA" batteries, and the vibration motors inside the controller handles are slightly larger than the ones in the Dualshock 3. That's where I felt the difference.

The Dualshock 3 vibrations may be slightly less than the Logitec controller, but it doesn't require the purchase of batteries.
The Dualshock 3 may be slightly heavier than the SixAxis, but it doesn't take up any extra space at all.

Sure, the price is about $15 more than the SixAxis, but it's a worthy upgrade for the Playstation 3 gamer who kicks it old school as well as new school. The only other drawback is the lack of an additional USB cable - but we can use the one that came with the system itself.

So what's the final verdict?

Order it, plug it in, charge it up, and get ready for the inevitable downloads from the Playstation Store to make the older PS3 games Dualshock 3 compatible.

I wouldn't recommend a feedback peripheral without providing my own feedback...

Enjoy!

5Get ready to rumble, even with PS 2 games!
By Sebastian Fernandez
I was already extremely happy with the Sixaxis controller, but I could not resist getting the DualShock 3. Not only do you get the rumble, but also, it feels much better in your hands, even for those games that do not use this feature. The rumble function is fun, but on top of that, it helps with gameplay, because "feeling" what is happening provides a lot more feedback than just watching how your character or car reacts to the environment.

The biggest surprise of all was that the rumble works with PS 2 games in the PS 3 system. I am currently playing through "God of War", a game which had the rumble capability in PS 2. I thought that it was unlikely that I was going to get this feature with this new controller in the PS 3, but it worked perfectly.

I know that having to buy a new controller and basically discard the one that came with the system is not the ideal situation, but I have to say this product is really worth shedding the extra bucks.

5Should've been rumble from the start.
By The Gifted One
The Playstation 2's highly regarded DualShock 2 controller was considered by many to be the best videogame controller of all time. So when you've got a winning design there's no need to change anything. However, because of a legal battle with Immersion over rumble technology, Sony was forced to offer their Sixaxis controller without rumble. The Sixaxis had the same Dualshock design but it felt too lightweight and cheap. Thankfully the lawsuit has been settled and rumble has come back to the Playstation.

For the most part, the DualShock 3 is almost identical to its PS2 precessor. But it has all the features of the original Sixaxis controller in addition to rumble. The controller is still wireless, can be charged by plugging it into your PS3 (or PC), rumble is compatible with all PS1 and PS2 games, and the PS3 supports up to 7 controllers at the same time via bluetooth. Rumble in the DualShock 3 seems more responsive in regards to the location of its vibration depending on which side you get hit on during the games. I don't know if this is something in the design or if it's the developers doing it for the games but I welcome it.

All in all this is currently the best designed controller on the market right now. The PS2's DS2 was incredible so "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" applies here. I'll be enjoying rumble in my PS3 games from now on.

5Easy-to-use printer, except for the size
By redhedhs
This is a great little printer - set up was a breeze, and I can automatically print to it using Google Print from anywhere on my iPad (I've even sent things to it from school to home). I love the quality of the prints that come out (to me, comparable to the Epson Artisan 1430 Wireless Wide-format Color Inkjet Printer (C11CB53201) that I also reviewed for Vine. It's also a really nice scanner. However, I have a few complaints.

- First, the size. This thing is HUGE, so really look at the dimensions before assuming it will fit on your shelf. Mine almost falls off of the top of a standard el-cheap-o half size Target bookcase. Something to think of if you don't necessarily need to print 13X19 prints.

- Second, the scans aren't accessible through wifi, which would be one reason I'd pass this one by if it wasn't a Vine product. Once you scan something, you have to choose to save it to USB, then put in a USB stick, then eject it and put the USB stick in your computer if you are hooked up by wifi like I am. I would REALLY prefer if this could just sync with Dropbox or another DropDav server, or even allow you to email the file to yourself. I scan a lot of documents and this USB step means that there are 3 whole steps between a scan and my iPad (scan--> USB, USB--> MacBook, MacBook --> Dropbox). I don't like that fact, but I don't know of any other printers that do it differently outside of our departmental printers at the university.

- Third, there is a weird scaling issue I haven't been able to fix, even after several consultations of the online help forums and set-up manual. Whenever I print mailing labels (such as for returns to Amazon!), this printer scales them down to about 40% of their size, making them kind of unusable for mailing. For some reason, this occurs whether it's a label directly from the USPS site or from Amazon, so I'm not really sure what's going on. I've checked the settings, and it's supposed to "stretch to page," but doesn't. So, I print them off on my trusty, creaky HP all-in-one black and white printer and they come out just fine. Again, this could be user error, but it's an odd thing to be dealing with and I haven't heard back from the company yet.

In all, the quality of prints is nice from this, and it's really a joy to be able to scan and copy with both a document feeder and a full scanner bed to accommodate books and texts. While I REALLY wish it could send scans directly to the internet or to a computer through the wifi, it's not make-or-break if you aren't doing a whole lot of scanning. If you have the space and want to occasionally be able to print out large posters, this could be the printer for you.

UPDATE: After getting on the phone with the customer service team and finding someone who knew what they were doing (unfortunately, three tries later), I got all of the problems solved with scaling AND got the scanner to scan directly to my computer. Few things: A) If you have Mac OS 10.7 (Lion), you need to delete the included driver already on your hard drive (Hard Drive --> Libraries --> Printer --> delete Epson folder, then HD --> Cache --> delete epsonwf7510.gw file). Then clear your trash, restart, download the device driver specific to Lion from the Epson website, install, and then install the printer through System Preferences --. Printer --> plus sign --> add Epson WF7510. This sounds like a lot of work, but once it's completed it only takes 5-8 minutes. Then, if you open the printer from System Preferences or leave the icon in the dock, you have to scan from the application in order to scan directly onto your computer. But it does indeed scan directly onto your computer or whatever other destination you want, even scanning directly into Adobe. So I'm improving my rating from 4 stars to 5. Hope that helps some people - if you have any questions, put it in the comments and I'll try my best to help.

4Easy WiFi setup. Great for the Office.
By Sam Archer
I have both this printer and the Epson Artisan 1430Epson Artisan 1430 Wireless Wide-Format Color Inkjet Printer (C11CB53201). Both are about the same cost and are billed as great photo quality but differ in important ways.

Size: This printer is BIG and it's heavy. It's bigger than the 1430 and is more of a square footprint.
You can load many types of paper including up to 13X19" which is very wide format paper. You can print onto envelopes and it comes with an attachment to print CD/DVD labels too.

Setup: This printer is wireless meaning you can print over wi-fi from any room in your house and don't need to have the printer attached to a computer. We put the printer in the closet and print from our laptop, desktops, and ipad/iphones and it works great.
Unlike the Artisan 1430 you DON'T need a USB cable (it doesn't come with it) for the initial wi-fi setup. There is a nice monochrome LCD display which finds your existing WiFi in a list and you use the keypad to enter the password. With the install CD, running Windows 7, and using an Airport Extreme router, installation was done in under 5min with no problems. You must use the install CD on every computer you want to print from.

There is a fold out control pad that is very easy to use. The button layout is helpful and clearly labeled. I really like the control layout with a nice LCD screen.

Printing: Printing from windows or Photoshop is very easy. The Artisan 1430 has presets in Photoshop CS5 but this one does not. Instead you print under a generic Epson printer. Prints done directly from windows are also easy to do. The included Epson software allows you to pick types of paper and set the quality. At highest settings, printing a 22 megapixel picture from my Canon 5D Mark II, with a color 8.5 x 11" glossy photo paper, it took under 3 minutes to print a photograph. I had no problem with paper jamming and loading paper is very easy.

You can print double sided to save paper.

Print Quality: For documents and word files this is a great printer. Printing is fast and smudge free.

I used Epson photo quality glossy paper and matte finish paper and the quality is good but the Artisan 1430 is much better. The pictures are as good as you can get from many photo printing places like Target but not nearly as good as the Artisan 1430 which is really the best photo printer they make.

The ink instantly dry to the touch without any smudging right out of the printer.

Cost: The printer itself is reasonable priced for what it is. The ink is where it gets costly. The replacement inks are 6 individual color cartridges that are easily changed, snap in and out. The cost is 47.99 for the full set of inks at this time. There are 4 ink cartridges unlike the 6 inks for the Artisan 1430. You can get around 1000 sheets printed until you need a refill.

Mobile printing: You can print to this printer with your iOS device like Ipad or Iphones with the Epson iprint app. Using my Iphone 4GS, I printed pictures and documents. You even have access to the advanced settings like paper quality, etc. Setup was literally as easy as downloading the app, picking the printer, and pressing print. Really impressive.

Scanner: You can scan large documents up to 11 x 17" without using an attachment. The scan quality is excellent but not as good as a dedicated scanner. If you are archiving old pictures or negatives you are better off with a dedicated photo scanner like the Canon Canoscan 9000fCanon CanoScan 9000F Color Image Scanner.

Copier: Easy to use with the document feeder. Copies are good but not great.

Fax: Even though you probably won't use this function it works well. A phone cable is included and it can be set for auto answer or use as needed if you only want to do it occasionally.

Paper: Unlike the Artisan 1430, this has a paper tray that you can fit around 250 sheets or half a ream of paper. You can print many sizes of paper without attachments and they all fit in the tray.
This one actually comes with free paper samples. The Artisan 1430 did not come with paper.

Conclusion:
Excellent office printer with excellent copier and good scanner. Photo prints are good but not great.

The WiFi setup is incredibly easy which should be a major plus compared to other WiFi printers which need a cable to setup.

The mobile printing from my iphone and Ipad is really a very nice added bonus feature!

3A disappointment.
By A. Khosla
Amended review after a few months of use:

In some respects this is a very capable printer/scanner/multi-function unit, but for me, it's a constantly irritating choice. If it's the best you can hope for, it's not the best. I ended up purchasing a Canon Pixma Pro9000 Mark II printer to handle the deficiencies of the Epson unit. Together they get the job done. The Epson unit could have been a great contender...but...

Here's a list of my major issues with the Epson unit.

* Biggest issue is that it only can handle VERY lightweight paper (sub 25 lbs). Cardstock, or anything even a bit heavy like charcoal paper, binds and wont print. Useless....

* The software is PC-centric - and appears to be unclear on the "easy to use" theme. A VERY poorly written manual that's short on help couldn't explain why I couldn't get the scanner to work. After a lot of debugging I realized the printer generates multiple IP addresses and you have to find all the addresses on the networking panel and then enter them via a separate scanner setup app. I now do this on a daily basis (I scan a lot).

* Photoshop (on my Mac) doesn't play well with the Epson printer driver. Using custom paper sizes is impossible. I don't understand the thinking of a company with a high-end printer that considers Photoshop printing support unimportant.

* The scanner plastic bezel sits a few mm above the glass, so if you want to scan an image bigger than the scanner area in sections you can't because closing the lid will crease the original you're scanning. :-(

Commenters have written they have good tech support via phone (never tested it).

The Canon Pixma Pro9000 Mark II printer handles the deficiencies of the Epson unit. Operationally, the Canon printer is a finicky thing, but here's the deal - it works. Simple as that. You can easily set and use custom paper sizes inside Photoshop - it doesn't complain about changing IP addresses, it doesn't destroy paper - it just works.

Bottom line. Epson fell asleep before the finish line. IMHO, they would benefit having someone who is finicky about design who says "if it's the best we can hope for, it's not the best." If did it over again, I'd buy a basic Canon multifunction unit for the 80% of my office needs, and then a separate scanner and the Canon Pixma Pro9000 printer for the 20% of my art needs.

5Works fine with Chrome book
By Joebizz
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2TD9JEVH8ZOPF Could not get a Bluetooth mouse to work with my 11.6 inch Samsung Chromebook even though it
has Bluetooth built in to it. Thought I would just go with a wireless one and chose this one, glad
to say it works fine just plugged in the nano receiver and in 2 seconds it was working fine. Smooth
scroll wheel and the buttons work fine..It came with a double A battery installed so it was ready to
go right out of the box..I ordered the light silver one because it matches the color of the 11.6" Chromebook.
It's the perfect size for my large hands plus the wife says it's the right size for her also..Video
shows the Logitech mouse next to a full size Microsoft wireless 5000 to get a size comparison.

5Great Small, Portable Mouse

5A very well-designed mouse!
By Margaret Picky
The Logitech M325 wireless mouse is both very attractive and functional. You don't need directions to set it up or use it--just plug in the USB receiver, pull the battery protector strip out, and turn it on. It has nice rubber sides and grip on the scrolling wheel. The scrolling and clicking functions are very smooth and accurate.

A nice touch is the battery compartment door that opens effortlessly but fastens securely and inside the compartment is a secret slot to store the USB receiver! An alkaline AA is pre-installed.

This mouse is very compact. It is really not quite as chubby as it appears in the photos. The shape and texture are very pleasant and I keep catching myself fondling it! The weight is well-balanced and it is designed to be used with either hand.

Two very minor complaints: the USB receiver looks very much like the one that came with my Logitech wireless keyboard K360 but it doesn't work with it, and vice versa. Also, the non-recyclable clamshell packaging is wasteful--although it has perforations in the back so opening it was easier than opening a beverage can. I understand that it is important to be able to see the product in brick & mortar stores but for online sales, Logitech should package it in cardboard only.

This is definitely a five-star mouse, nice quality, attractive design, very portable. If you are using a wired mouse or have a sore forefinger from using a touchpad, you will really enjoy it. I am using it for reading while still using the touchpad when typing.

4works fine !!
By Brunswick Rich
I have read several negative reviews about the Chamberlain CWA2000 Wireless Motion Alert system... many of which compared it to its predecessor. I have used the former version with success for 3 years and I was disappointed that it had been discontinued and replaced with this model and that it was not compatible with my old sensors.
Despite the negative reviews -mostly about the low volume of the base station - I decided to purchase one anyhow because the price is so attractive. I figured I would send it back if I wasn't satisfied. It works fine! The old model allowed the base station to be put on mute for one hour. That feature no longer exists - but the sound can be raised or lowered which helps compensate if someone will be working in one of my remote buildings - tripping the sensor repeatedly - which is when we would use the mute feature. Another new feature that I haven't tested yet is that this new version can handle 8 sensors, each with a unique signal [1 beep - 8 beeps]. Its predecessor could only be trained for 4.
I live in a heavily wooded & hilly location with a very long driveway and several outbuildings that need to be protected. This unit will work for 300-400+ yards dependably. The volume is adjustable and is certainly audible all over my house. The earlier units may have been "fixed" because the base station makes plenty of noise now. I suggest buying several base stations and training them all to the same codes [1 beep for driveway, 2 beeps for shed, 3 beeps for outside the garage, 4 beeps for inside the garage, etc.]. I also strongly recommend that you use lithium batteries for the sensors if they are to be used in a location where the temperature goes below 20degrees F. Alkaline batteries freeze around 15 degrees F; lithium's are good to 20 below zero F. Another trick I use is to put two sensors on my driveway just in case the first one misses. It's my "fail safe". Try these and have some patience in deciding where you will place the sensors. Don't point them towards the sun or prevailing snow storms winds. Use lithium's and expect 10+ months out of each set of AA batteries.

5Best investment
By Suzanne Trautman
I don't normally write reviews, but have to stick up for this product. I bought it along with 2 additional sensors 1 1/2 years ago. It's the best investment I've made in a long time. I've been monitoring my driveway, deck, and basement door. I installed the unit in my master bedroom so it wakes us up if triggered. However, we can easily hear it downstairs as long as we don't have really loud music on. There is one beep for sensor 1, two beeps for sensor 2 and so on. Some people might miss the "one beep" from a very far away or excessive external noise, but I installed my most active sensor (driveway) to be sensor 3 (3 beeps) and never miss hearing it. The 4 AA batteries I originally installed are still working! Yes, it will take 4-5 minutes to open up the units and change them, but you'll only need to do it ever 1-2 years and there protected from weather inside the sensor. I highly recommended if you value knowing when something is on certain parts of your property and don't mind being woken up occasionally if you have deer, cats, or other animals that wander at night. I live in a suburban neighborhood and already caught one person walking up my driveway at 4AM trying to break into our cars. I've also enjoyed hearing the beeps knowing when someone is coming up the driveway during the day.

5CWA2000-New Circuit Boards, Finally!
By Jon D. Andreas
I have owned/installed 7 of these systems at my childrens/my home over the last 15 years, all the way back to the original "Reporter" models.

The original Reporter had circuit boards made in the USA (printed on the boards). They all worked great at far distances. I could easily get a full 1300 feet(unobstructed view)of reception even though they only claimed they were good for 1000'.

About 4-5 years ago Chamberlain company bought Reporter. Unfortunatly this is the same time I had to replace my old/original units (from weather/sun fatigue) of approx 10 years usage. The new units I ordered had the same transmitter (field unit) case cover and a slightly differnt receiver (house unit) cover, but the circuit bords were all made in China (printed right on the boards). These units were terrible. I tested 6 of these transmitters, each with an unobstructed view. The maximum reception I could get was 400' on one and only 150'/200' on all the other transmitters. All new fresh/expensive Li-Ion batteries here too, so no low voltage excuses. Quality control of these circuit boars is the big issue here!!!! So I ended up moving them very close to my house. I have lived with those for several years (not good).

I just received 2 new sets of this new CWA2000 model on 8-24-2012. I tested both systems side by side on the exact same spot I have used for the last 15 years. These work even better than the original Reporter units. Upon inspection I see the units were assembled in Mexico on 7-25-21012 (yes, just 1 month ago!), so they are the latest/freshest you can get. No made in stamp on the boards, just on the outer plastic receiver case. With only a 1 month duration between assembly and delivery, it is very likely these circuit boards are made in the USA or Mexico. If they came from China there would be at least a 3 month delay.

So bottom line, these new units work excellent! I just orderd several more sets for my kids homes (Christmas presents for all).

To Note: New base unit in the house is smaller (nicer than old unit). Buzzer sound has changed. It is now more of a long, high pitched squeal (O.K.) rather than the old loud buzzzzzzzzzz, but plenty of volume to hear anywhere thru my large 3600 sq.ft. single level home. No relay outputs for a relay connection to an external bell or light, but with the Head units being so low in price now, just buy two systems if you want an additional Alarm sound elsewhere in your house/garage/shop. You can program the transmitters to more than 1 Head unit. That is what I did, so I hear when I'm out working in my detached shop.

4Don't be fooled by the small package
By haystack
First off, I would like to explain that this may be an ongoing review. I just bought this item last night, and being a person who understands electronics, I usually wait for my reviews. This time, I figured I would start the review, and then I can come back and edit. Therefore, you may see some updates or changes below.

Second, don't let my initial 4-star rating fool you. I was torn on how to rate this product for the value of what you pay, or vs. other speakers. I decided to put this up against much larger bluetooth speakers, and I think it speaks volumes that a $40 item is 4-stars compared to $150 bluetooth portable speakers.

I'm going to start with what most peopls call "cons", but I'm just going to note them as minor nuisances

-The cord is only about 6 inches long....BUT...its your standard android type charger. Since I'm a Samsung Galaxy boy, myself, I have a ton of these cables. It is currently charging with an old LG cable I found

-Some have mentioned a slight hum in the speaker. This is pretty common with most Bluetooth devices. This goes away when you start playing music. There have been some that said, "once you hear the hum, you always hear the hum". I purposely turned the music all the way down just to hear the hum. I listened to it at my desk for 5 minutes, and then played music again. I don't notice any hum, and I am TRYING to hear it. So, although there is, in fact, a hum, I'm not noticing it when in use.

-Its not a great bass machine, but again, is this really a con? Do people buy a prius to drag-race? Cannot really hold that against this machine, so again...that is why I said a "minor nuisance" (and that is a stretch)

-The power switch is on the bottom

-There is an extreeeeeemly loud series of beeps every time you turn it on. You know its coming, so you can try to shield it. Its still somewhat annoying, and not good for starting up in quiet places. There may be a way around this, I just haven not figured it out.

-The controls on the speaker itself are a little slow to respond, but honestly, who is going to use this? It is only a minor delay anyway. I just tested them to see what they were. I control everything from my phone.

I tried this thing out approximately 10 times in Bed Bath and Beyond. I kept messing with their display and was rather disappointed that I couldn not try my own music on their display. So, that kept me from trying it at first. Plus, I am always concerned that the display model is set up differently and it just won't sound as good at home in larger rooms...which takes me to my pros, and what I love about this (so far)

-The sound fills a room. Its not that massive BOSE sound, but its pretty close in how it fills a room. I listen to a lot of 90's acoustic rock and that stuff sounds incredible. Now, if you get to some of the newer club-rap type of music, there is not a lot of power, but it doesn't sound distorted either. Still sounds good, it just is not going to blow your hair back and rattle windows

-I had the phone about 15 feet away from the device and it played beautifully. What is funny is Pandora played clearer than my recorded music...here is why that is a pro. Because, I realized a lot of my recorded music is garbage from the internet and typically poor recordings, which leads me to believe that this device really picks out the clarity of songs. Much like a good set of headphones might actually make some of my bad recording actually sound bad because the headphones are so clear.

-The construction is very sturdy

- (pending a battery test)

- any standard charger that comes with most android phones can charge this.

-line in that will work with non-USB devices

-packaging is actually very nice. I will keep this for storage.

If you are skeptical about buying this, just buy it from a place that has easy returns. Thus far, I have no desire to return it. As far as performance goes, it is a solid 5-star product for the price. Again, I gave it four stars only because its slightly not as powerful as some bigger, more expensive speakers. I realize that may not be a fair assessment, but, again, I think it speaks more to the product that I give it 4 stars in comparing it to the larger portable Bluetooth speakers. I think the only way I would have a problem with this speaker in the future, is if for some reason performance decreases, or I find that the battery lasts a very short amount of time. I will update this, if needed, in the future. If you don't hear from me, that means its still doing well :)

5Great Sound in a Small Package Tested on iOS Devices
By Jorge J. Coelho
I'm always looking for new ways to get portable sound to boost what I get from my iPhone and iPads. I was excited to test out a wireless set of speakers at such a low price point. What I can say is I was pleasantly surprised by all of the following:

+ Nice design to the speaker that just feels like a solidly built product.
+ Rubber bottom on speaker allows it to easily grip onto surfaces.
+ Sound is clear with some decent level of bass for such a small speaker. I tried all types of music including classical and did not experience some of the "humming" reported by others. I'm not sure if this was addressed by the manufacturer in later versions, but I was impressed and saw only minimal distortion at full volume.
+ Bluetooth range was impressive as I saw minimal distortion only when getting beyond about 15 feet. Keep in mind that most Bluetooth devices ranges advertised are maximum with some distortion, so 30 ft is what you get before you just flat out get an abundance of distortion. I did find that solid objects like walls will limit the range, which you find with other Bluetooth products.
+ Pairing was simple with all my iOS devices.
+ Added bonus of having an AUX in and Play/Pause controls on the speaker even though it's unnecessary, since you can use your device as a remote for the speaker. The AUX in is a nice tough for anyone who doesn't have Bluetooth support, but then again I would not purchase a speaker whose main purpose is Bluetooth for a device without Bluetooth.
+ Included packaging is re-usable for storage, which is convenient.

The only thing that was really a small negative for me is that the cable provided for charging is rather short and unless your outlet is close enough to a solid surface you may have to leave the speaker hanging for charging, but this was something I easily saw past.

Overall this is a very solid Bluetooth speaker at a great price point when compared to other similar options. It's a great entry point for anyone interested in a Bluetooth speaker. Keep in mind that all my testing was performed on iOS devices. I tested on an iPhone 5, iPad 1 and iPad 2. iPhone 5 was running iOS 6 and the iPads were running iOS 5.

********* I received this product for free as part of the Amazon.com Vine program. Nonetheless, I review the product in the same manner as I would if I had purchased it myself. *********

3too big for the sound
By Benjamin Rose
I have been seeing so many mixed reviews for different products that I decided to buy a few, try them out, and decide for myself which one I'm going to keep. So I ended up buying the 4 speakers that have high ratings:
Accessorise (tm) Portable Bluetooth Wireless Mini Speaker System,
Alpatronix AX300 X-tra Strong Bluetooth Portable Mini Capsule Speaker,
DBEST London Duo Bluetooth Rechargeable Mini-Speaker Set (PS4003BT-RB),
HMDX Audio HX-P230GY JAM Classic Bluetooth Wireless Speaker,
and X-Mini KAI XAM11-B Bluetooth Capsule Speaker.

Having tested them, I thought I would post my review here in the hopes that it would clear out doubts for others. Here are the results of my testing. In each category, I have ranked them 1-5, with 1 being my favorite, and 5 being the least favorite:

Design:
#1: I have to say Alpatronix speakers claim the spot hands down! Right out of the box, my son was about to steal it from me. He ended up doing so anyway, but I managed to keep him away from it until I finished testing the speaker. The speaker is sleek with rubberized finish and a chrome sleeve on the top and the sides. It's also the most portable onewithout compromising sound quality. The packaging is also very classy (for gifting), and is fun just to open. Kinda like apple products! It looks very sophisticated indeed.
#2 spot goes to HMDX JAM. I have to say I wasn't that crazy about the shape of the actual speaker which is just a cylinder, but the box is like a jam jar, which I thought was cool for children. The speaker is much bigger than the other ones and doesn't fit comfortably in the pocket of my jeans. It's also VERY heavy considering the size, so you'll feel it in your pocket if you are finally able to fit it in.
#3 spot goes to DBEST. It looks like the Alpatronix without the chrome, and also looks like X-Mini KAI. It's not very portable because it has 2 speakers so I can't fit it into my pocket. Even my wife who normally carries a big purse wants to have the smallest possible option, which is definitely not this one.
#4 spot goes to X-Mini KAI. Again, it looks and functions like the Alpatronix, but without the chrome band. Other than that, it looks like a black blob... nothing special. The packaging doesn't look bad. Hard plastic packaging dressed with thin cardboard dressing.
#5 spot goes to Accessories. This looked really cool in pictures but actually the plastic looks cheap. Size is very small, similar to Alpatronix, and KAI but doesn't expand. The packaging is thin flexible plastic and looks cheapish. I don't recommend it for a gift.

Sound:
I tested the speakers with different types of music: Pop, rock, hiphop, house, and classical. Also I charged all the speakers fully before testing.
#1: HMDX JAM. The sound is louder in this speaker. This must be due to the bigger size, which means a bigger and wider speaker in the device. However, I didn't like the bass level relative to the volume level, and the weight and size are a big negative.
#2: Alpatronix. In expanded form, it has a very nice sound and covers both high and low ends really well, with a very nicely developed sound. When I first played it, I thought it was weak until I read the user manual which indicated the speaker turns on at mid volume and that you can increase it to full volume with the little knob that controls most of the functions. Can't believe this little thing makes such big sound!
#3: DBEST. The sound on this speaker is ok. Considering there's 2 speakers, I just expected more! Considering the negatives mentioned in the design, I didn't bother testing it for too long as I was sadly disappointed with the first couple songs I played.
#4: X-Mini KAI. This one just sounds weak. Being about the size and shape of the Alpatronix and DBEST, I was expecting it to perform about the same, but the sound is just really weak even at full volume. It has a nicely developed sound but it just doesn't get loud.
#5: Accessories. The sound is as loud as the HMDX JAM. But the positives stop here. It just covers the highs, and nothing of the lows. No bass at all, and screeching at full blast!

Conclusion:
#1: Alpatronix AX300 was the most well-rounded speaker, meeting everything the manufacturer claims. It's portable, VERY nice sound, great packaging, and good price!
#2: HMDX JAM has good sound, but not very portable. Don't like the shape, weight, or size. The packaging looks cool if you are into jam jars, but I purchased it for portability and sound. It met the sound qualification, but definitely not the other criteria.
#3: DBEST. Like #2, but the sound is not as good. That's why this one receives #3.
#4: X-Mini KAI. I would avoid it if possible. Weak sound, but nice portability.
#5: Accessories. I would not spend money on this. Bad sound, cheap look, and cheap packaging. Like a singer who sings beyond their voice range. No bass at all and screaming!

Good luck with your purchase! I have to go get me another Alpatronix AX300 now that my son has the first one :)

5Great Value!!!
By Andrew Arnold
This is the first Bluetooth headset I've owned. It's a no name brand from China so I didn't expect much. The instructions included are fairly useless, but I really had no trouble with the set up. I'm no audiophile so I can't speak to the quality of the sound because I use it when I'm walking for audiobooks, plus I've got a little bit of a tin ear. But it sounds clean and clear to me- no interference at all. When I got it, I was on my way for a walk, so I figured I'd try it out right away- no charging first. It lasted through the whole half hour walk. When I got home I charged it, and within a half hour it completed the charge. (I don't know how long the charge will last, if need be I'll update the review). As the title suggests, it's a great value- you'll pay this much for a regular set of wired headphones (Which I hate like Wile E. Coyote hates the Road Runner). So I'm very happy with the purchase.

BATTERY CHARGE UPDATE- I use these headphones for about 30 minutes every day and the charge lasted about 2 weeks before it needed a recharge. When the battery is low, you'll begin hearing 4 quick beeps every 15 seconds and then after a few minutes, it will shut off. Also, I forgot to mention that I'm a 'big and tall' guy so the back of my neck looks like a package of hot dogs, and I would describe the fit of the headset as snug. It's not too tight but almost, so if you're not a Heavy Chevy like me, they will probably fit perfectly comfortably.

4First impression was disappointment, once I got it working, I am happy.
By msn yin yang
Received the headset and was eager to try it out. Looks sharp with the red and black styling. First fit was good for my small neck and ear buds sat comfortably in my ear. The red plastic covering the back of the neck was loose on one side. Tried to push it back but it did not stay. It wasn't a snap joi nt but it needed to be glued in place. No big deal. Will do that if I decide to keep it.

Unfortunately I will have to wait for some instructions before I can review the sound quality and pairing capabilities. I could not truth this unit on. There is one pin hole marked with on/off below it. Tried the usual paper clip method but can't feel any clicks and given the fragility of the product, I dare not pushed too hard. Waiting for others to comment on how to turn this unit on and off. If unable to do that, it is going back.

Update:
Vendor replied with options to return or replace it but I got it figured out and now testing the unit before final decision.

Do not stick anything into the pin hole. It is not a switch but the LED. What's mark as on/off is really the status led.

The instruction in the back of the packaging refers to a Bluetooth key, that's the play button or the center button. Hold that for about 5s to turn it on. This is also the talk and hang up button.

To pair, press the play button and hold it until it alternates between blue and red for paring, this can only be done from the off state.

To turn it off, Press the play button until you see it flash red. Let go of the play button.

To turn it on, press he play button until you see a blue light, let go of the button.

To answer or hang up, press the play button.

4XO has lots of love for my SUV!
By Ouckie
To purchase the headsets from GM are currently around $80 a piece. I just purchased 4 for under that amount total! It does not get much better than that!

I just purchased a used GMC Yukon XL with the integrated DVD (Panasonic) and needed to get headsets and the remote ... these worked without a glitch!

One comment though to keep in mind is that these are single channel IR headsets. For example, my SUV supports two channels, one for the DVD, and one for the radio. Therefore, with a two channel headset, one could swap between the DVD and the radio/CD if one wanted. Due to the fact that these are only single channel, all I get is the DVD. However, my goal was to have the kids watch their DVD while I listen to the radio, so this is all that I needed.

I am not an audiophile, but they sounded fine enough to me. There was no buzz or hiss and felt comfortable enough. Lets put it this way ... the kids do not complain and stay quiet ... that is good enough for me.

(For the remote I got a universal remote at my local retail store for $7.)

You can't beat the price!

4Great inexpensive for use with Honda Entertainment systems
By John M. Cinalli
I have a 2009 Honda Pilot and 3 kids and the Honda's DVD Entertainment system only comes with 2 headsets. Hondas headsets are about $40-$50 each and since I don't think any headset will last with my kids, I decided to try XO Vision. These headphones work with the DVD system, sound pretty good, fit head sizes both large and small at a fraction of the Honda OEM headset price. I decided to get two pairs as back up or to entertain others. For the price of under $20 you can't go wrong.

5Awesome value, especially for little kids use...
By Rudy Pry
I bought my 2005 GMC Yukon Denali used, about two months ago. It didn't have the factory head sets with it and after inquiring at the dealer for new ones ($65/each), I said "The kids can listen through the speakers... after all, it is a Bose system... I'm not spending $200 on 3 headsets!". Well, after two short months, I was ready to. I quickly realized a grown man can only take so much of Spongebob's laugh. I started searching for head phones that would be compatible with the video system. Found these and thought for the price I would give them a try. Got them today. Put the batteries in, turned them on, started the DVD, and they worked! No setup. No configuration. They just worked! (why cany other things be like that?)
The sound quality is very good. Which by my kids (ages 4, 7, 10) standards its "freakin awesome, dad!" The construction quality is pretty good but I fully expect them to break at some point. Not because they are flimsy, they are not. But because my kids are that good! They can bend a crowbar in a sandbox and at $16 a pop, daddy can afford a couple extra crowbars.

5Don't toss your old router! ... and other suggestions
By L. Brown
Some suggestions:
(1) Use the instructions in the Users Guide for installing the router - the installation software on the CD didn't work for me, but the written instructions are clear enough.

(2) Update the firmware before you get too far in configuring the router.
There was a nasty bug in the installed firmware that caused the router to freeze if you tried to display wireless statistics. This is fixed in the firmware dated August, 2010.

(2) If you're thinking of replacing an old b/g wireless router with this, don't toss the old router yet!
Many wireless devices such as printers and music systems (like Sonos) do not support the 11n standard yet. At first I tried running the TP-Link router in mixed b/g/n mode. For some reason the performance was exceptionally slow. But, it's easy to link your old router into the network so that the b/g devices will use the old router. The TP-Link router can then be set to 11n-only for excellent performance for devices that support it. Here's how to do it:

- Give each router a different IP address, say 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2. Make sure both are outside the range of dynamic IP addresses.

- Give both routers the same SSID so that they will form a single network.

- Assign each router to different wireless channels. (1 or 6 or 11 are usually recommended).

- Turn off DHCP or other WAN support in the b/g router. Set up the TP-Link with WAN support (such as DHCP) and connect to the ADSL or cable modem.

- In the b/g router, add the MAC addresses of the 11n devices to its MAC filter list. These are devices you DON'T want to connect to it.
(Of course, if you have many more 11n devices than b/g ones, do the reverse: create a filter list with only the devices you DO want to connect).

- Link the b/g router to any LAN port on the TP-Link router with an Ethernet cable.

That should be it. Enjoy!

5Awesome Router for DD-WRT
By Tex
**************************
THIS REVIEW WAS FOR THE OLDER VERSION OF THE TP-LINK ROUTER.
**************************

I bought two of these routers with the intention of flashing them with DD-WRT. Both flashed extremely fast and easily without any hitches and can be flashed via the router's web GUI (no Telnet, etc). Both routers have been running non stop ever since flashing them and have worked perfectly. I have been very pleased thus far with TP-Link products, especially after having a lot of issues with Belkin routers (hangs, slooooow response, rebooting, over-heating, etc). You can't beat the price vs features with this TL-WR1043ND (for sure when using DD-WRT, but even the original TP-Link firmware is still very usable). I my opinion this is the best price vs features gigabit router on the market for DD-WRT.

For those interested, here are some hardware specs:

Platform...........Atheros AR9132 @ 400 MHz
FCC ID.............TE7WR1043NX
Wireless NIC...Atheros AR9103 3x3 MIMO
WLAN..............802.11b/g/n
LAN.................4/gigabit
WAN................1/gigabit
RAM.................32 MB
Flash...............8 MB
Serial Port.......1 (internal)
JTAG...............1 (internal)
USB.................1 (external)
Input Voltage...12V 1.5A

5Excellent WIFI Router
By Dr. Wilfredo M. Viray
I bought this wireless router because of the features and the reviews. It is a good thing I did. This is an excellent router.

Pros:
Ease of Setup - I got this working in less than 10 minutes. Just turn off your Cable modem and computer. Connect the router to the modem using the included cable. Power up everything. Then put in the CD and in a few minutes you are done. That includes setting up the WPA2 security.

Range - My previous Wireless Routers(Apple,Linksys,Zyxel) could only give me at most 61% from one end of my house to the other. This gives me 85%. That is going through 3 Bedrooms and furniture.

Speed - I used to get 12 Mbps with my previous router. I just tested it now and I now have 19.89 Mbps download speed from the same site I always test with.

Price - Excellent value for money.

Network USB Hardrive - You can easily share a USB hard drive. You now have no limit to how much videos you can download and games you can play. Share the drive with your entire family.

Cons:

Not Dual Band - It isn't dual band, but i don't need it so it does not bother me.

Summary:
This is a real find. Never heard of this company before, but I am very impressed with this product.

5Excellent!
By Phil C.
I've only had this door chime for about a month. But, so far, it has worked flawlessly. I live on the second floor of a three family house and the range on this unit is great. The previous chime I had seemed to work only occasionaly.
The only odd thing that I noticed when reading the installation instructions was that they recommend not mounting the push button next to any metal objects. Since most houses have screen doors, this might be an issue. However, my house is aluminum sided with a screen door and the chime still works fine.

5This Doorbell Works
By Dan Schmidt
Some of the other reviewers referenced the provided directions as a waste. I would say you need a basic understanding of electronics to interpret but they are pretty straight forward. I purchased the doorbell unit, the upgraded black with gold plated door button and several door/window sensors. In all I purchased enough parts for 2 door bells and 4 door/window notifications. The product description provided by Honeywell does not tell you for every window or door that you wish to be notified is opened, you must purchase one converter AND one set of wired door contacts. This adds up fast, very fast. In any case, to the set up and performance of the unit. For now I have just set up the 2 doorbells and 1 door open notifier and the set up was fairly easy. From opening the packaging to setting up the door chimes, to mounting the (what I call) door notifier took me about an hour and a half and I played around with the unit allot before installing. Mainly checking out the door chimes but also reprogramming the provided push button and the additional black and gold one I purchased. What I thought was inventive and progressive with the unit is the door open notifier has its own notification aside from the provided door chimes and it sounds like a door open notifier. I think a couple of the door chimes are a bit hokey. I think they were running out of ideas. The unit comes with a volume knob which was an excellent idea on there part as this thing is loud with the volume cranked. The light that is installed in the unit is functional, bright and eye catching and in my opinion is a very useful feature for the hearing impaired. It flashes like a strobe light when the door bell is rung. Of the 6 programmable notifiers, each one has its own display with picture or the option of placing numbers in place of the pictures so when a doorbell is rung or door is opened you know visually what door bell is being rung and so forth. Once again another nice feature for the hearing impaired. I will say if you mount the unit on a wall where a doorbell is usually mounted (high up) the picture feature will not be very useful. With that being said the unit is not ugly and is about the size of a book AND stands on it own quite well. So not mounting it on a wall and just setting it somewhere is acceptable in my opinion. If you do decide to mount it on a wall, hardware is provided and is very simple. If you can hang a picture even somewhat straight, you can hang this unit. In conclusion Honeywell is synonymous with security (at least in my neck of the woods) and the doorbell buttons have the Honeywell name placed right on them which can't hurt in possibly conveying to a potential intruder your home is fully wired with a Honeywell Security system. In conclusion to my conclusion as I almost forgot the most important point. How is the signal? I believe it to be very good. Now I have not tested nor do I plan to test it to the 450ft working range so I cannot speak to this. What I will say is my furthest door is 40 plus feet away from the doorbell itself and the buttons signal must travel through 2 insulated 2x6 walls plus 2 more interior walls and it works perfectly. No delay to speak of. No repeat button pushing AND the buttons have a signal light on them so the user knows they have pushed the button. I highly recommend this unit. Thanks for the read and I hope this helps in your decision.

5Finally a wireless doorbell that works!
By James A. Kenefick
I tried at least three other brands/models before this. What wastes of money. Too quiet, too much interference, so many problems. On the other hand, this Honeywell model is loud, works all over my house across multiple floors and looks nicer than my old ones as well. Highly recommended to anyone who is sick of poorly-performing wireless doorbells.

5Excellent so far (a couple of days of use)
By TEA
Just got the printer, but here's a short list of what I like so far: hard-wired LAN hookup, excellent grayscale ADF scanning experience, excellent photo printing, manual rear paper feed in addition to front trays, ability to scan over the hard-wired LAN, Epson setup software excellent, Epson scanning software very good (one minor thing I didn't like), and the XP-800 (not 810) got high marks from Consumer Reports.

Some details...

* Unit was nicely packaged, easy to physically setup.

* It's much smaller than my prior all-in-one, and relatively small given its capabilities, so fits more easily into an area with limited space.

* Software setup was exceptionally easy, well-designed. When you start setup, it automatically gets updates before installing (not typical in my printer setup experience). It then automatically detected the printer on the hard-wired LAN (this has been painful with other printer setups). At the end of setup, it automatically obtains and installs the latest printer firmware (not typical in my printer setup experience). This had to be one of the easiest, most thorough of LAN-printer setups I've ever experienced.

* Its software updater was very easy to use as well. Detected several apps which required updating, but let me click which ones to update, and updated them without issue and without the need to reboot.

* Minor blemish (but not a deal breaker): After setup, when updating to the latest printer driver, it prompted me with three confusing choices. I don't remember what they were exactly but trust me they were confusing. Something like the following: a) Update the driver and add the printer, b) Update the driver but do not add the printer, c) Do not update the driver. I'm a technical person and could determine the right choice, but I wouldn't expect a normal non-tech user to feel comfortable. Basically, there's an updated driver available, and the printer has already been setup, so `b' is the right choice because it will update the driver for already installed ("added") printer.

* The printer supports hard-wired LAN hookup as well as WiFi. I like hard-wired because it's available in my home, and it's easier to setup... just connect the printer to the router and Epson's software finds it right away during setup.

* I scanned a bunch of documents using the ADF, very easy: I have only scanned as grayscale, but had to do about 200 pages. It went extremely well. No ADF issues/jams, and it supported scan-to-PDF. It also allows changing between scanning on the flatbed and ADF within a single scan session, all pages going to a single PDF.

* Scanning single-sided grayscale via ADF took about 10 seconds per page, while double-sided grayscale via ADF took about 30 seconds per two-sided page (approximately 15 seconds per side or per page, the implication being that page flipping adds about 5 seconds per scanned page). I have not scanned color or in different modes so can only speak from my one grayscale scanning experience so far, which consisted of about 200 pages going to several PDFs (i.e., a few scanning sessions creating several PDFs from both the ADF and flatbed). Double-sided scanning worked exceptionally well, no jams.

* Ouch, one scanning downside (not a deal-breaker): You cannot push the Scan button on the physical scanner to initiate a scan to the PC over the network. I was shocked at first because this led me to think the XP-810 did not have any support for scanning over the hard-wired LAN connection, but it does: you must initiate the scan from Epson's software on the PC. The reason I expected Scan button to work this way is because my older Canon MX860 supported this feature... you could push a button on it, and scan right to a PC PDF without touching the PC at all. Using Epson's software to initiate a scan over LAN from the PC is fine for me. NOTE: The Epson XP-810 includes a USB hookup as well. I believe it may support Scan button to scan to a PC connected via USB, but I have not tried it. I am only referring to the LAN hookup I'm using... when I pressed Scan, the only options presented where, I believe, a USB options and memory cards/devices. In any event, realize I'm speaking of my own particular usage/setup.

* Ouch, another blemish (non-deal-breaker for me, but it may be for office/business users): During lengthy scanning of, say, 35 documents in a full ADF, one might like to continue to use his/her PC for other tasks such as email or the like. The Epson scanning software, while scanning, will show progress, which by itself is just fine, but it becomes problematic because Epson's software activates the progress dialog/window after each page or so, which means, while you're working within a different application during scanning, the Epson software makes itself active while you're trying to get work done. You might be typing in email, and all of a sudden the Epson software will be the active application, so your keystrokes stop going to the email or other application. I could easily see this being a deal-breaker for a secretary who might need to scan on the same PC upon which she writes letters, as just one example. For me, this issue is okay to deal with, though it is a pain. Since this issue is very easy to fix, Epson should address it. It's an unnecessary limitation. There may be a way around this by using other scanning software, but I tried one other application but it ends up using the Epson scan dialog and I see the same issue.

* This unit has a front loading paper tray, but it also has a rear manual feed for photo paper, which I consider to be a big plus, very convenient compared to having to change out the tray paper all the time. The rear feed works well, but it was a little confusing at first since you can't just rest the paper there, you must actually insert it about 2 inches for the printer to recognize it's there. This is documented, which is how I figured it out, but only after experiencing a few printer error messages. This nuance differs from typical rear feed experience.

* I have not used the front CD/DVD printing tray, but I noticed it is easy to insert it too far into the unit. You must carefully insert it until you see it is flush, and then stop. It also has a slight click and feel, where you know it's reached the right point, but this is untypical. Usually printer parts like this have a definite point where you cannot insert them further and that's the right point. This is a very minor issue, if an issue at all. Another review called this out, so I'm confirming it.

* After installing the Epson software, I noticed the "Epson Ask IE toolbar" had gotten installed. I must have missed a checkbox somewhere during install, or they decided to install it anyway. Regardless, Epson really doesn't need to be installing stuff like this. I removed it. Not a biggie but I wish companies would default to installing the necessities and make other things optional by default.

* I owned a Canon MX860 for several years. I worked well until one day, during scanning, it displayed a B200 error and the unit became inoperable. Despite having experienced that Canon issue, since the MX860 had worked well, I looked closely at the Canon PIXMA MX922 Wireless Color Photo Printer with Scanner, Copier and Fax as a replacement, instead of this Epson XP-810. The MX922, though, did not have any manual rear photo paper feed as did the MX860, and that was an MX922 deal-breaker for me. At that point, I went with this XP-810.

5610 or 810? The answer depends on if faxing or the dual sided auto document feeder (30 pages) is required.
By Jeri Zerr
Excellent quality line of everyday color printer which also doubles as a photo printer - Epson has been holding up far better than HP printers of late and with the great value ink sources available here on Amazon (including inktoneram which has given us great service) the cost of printing per page is negligible.

I recently compared both the 610 and the 810 printer side by side to decide which is best for my needs. I chose the 810 over the 610 ONLY because of the two primary extra features. The 610 and the 810 printers are nearly identical, the primary difference being the 810 is slightly taller since it also includes a fold out auto document feeder which handles up to 30 pages, double sided, for scanning and copying and FAXING, which the 610 is not capable of faxing though it works great with services such as eFax which I personally prefer to use, anyway!

Both printers have a rear accessible paper feed for thicker card stock, premium paper or photo paper. Both printers feature a built in paper tray to handle 100 page capacity. Both printers feature a lower slide out tray to hold CDs and DVDs to print DIRECTLY on to the disk without it spinning or becoming misaligned. Both the 610 and the 810 printers use the Epson 273 ink cartridges - 5 in the set for cyan, magenta, yellow, black and photo black (this is this important for printing photos!)

I am very impressed with both printers. They are built with quality construction, feel SOLID, and work perfectly directly out of the box. Epson Connect is VERY easy to configure for wireless printing. I appreciate I can forward an email to an "email address" and the printer will print the file. So when I'm working from home my boss can email a file directly to my printer, or I can email a document to my husband's printer so he doesn't have to hassle with opening his email, downloading the file, opening the file, printing, etc. It's so convenient to email the document directly to the printer! I use the wireless printing capability all the time, in fact my printer is not located anywhere near a wired Ethernet connection, never was, it just isn't needed, not even during the initial setup. It is handy to know your wireless network's information, it will need to be entered on the display screen during the setup process.

I am impressed. Thoroughly impressed. HP and Canon used to be my go to printer lines - not anymore. Not in years. If I was needing a LASER printer I would check out the Brother printers for both color and monochrome. Otherwise I strictly recommend the Epson lines of printers, particularly for reasonable cost photo printing.

Note: I've been using Epson Connect for over a year with other Epson printers. Epson has always been prompt to email prior to any scheduled service outages (2 or 3 in over a year) and service remained available almost the entire time, in other words they are very reliable.

2Print cartridges highly unsatisfactory
By Angie Boyter
Design: The printer is nice and compact, slightly over 7 inches tall, about 13 inches deep, and 15 inches wide. The paper tray, like several other Epson printers I have used, is smaller than the trays in printers from HP, which is a nuisance---printing remotely does not work well if the paper tray is empty. When you print, the touchscreen panel opens up and a tray comes out of the front of the printer for the output. This is a nice improvement over my last Epson Artisan printer, which tended to eject printouts onto the floor, but the tray and the panel must then be closed manually, which is a bit inelegant. The ink cartridges are physically smaller than normal, and I will be interested to see how long they last. Two black cartridges are used at one time plus a photo black cartridge. There are two paper cassettes, one for standard-sized paper and one for smaller sizes such as typical photo-sized paper. CAUTION: Without asking, the installation defaults to the small cassette when you print photos; you might or might not want that setting.
Installation: I got ink on my hands from installing several of the cartridges, which has never happened to me with other cartridges. The wi-fi automatic setup failed, so I had the opportunity to try out the setup wizard. It worked well and was easy to use.
Operation: Printing worked well (once I had reset my defaults to the size and type of paper I was using. It is also important to make sure you have designated the right kind of paper, glossy or standard.). The print was sharp, and the colors were true. When I copied, however, there was some degradation of colored items and some loss of small details of patterns. On copies, purples tended to pick up some brown tones, and pinkish reds came out with more orange.
Special Features: The Epson Connect feature allows a user to print remotely from another device that has e-mail capability simply by sending an e-mail to the printer's e-mail address. I tried this feature, and it worked nicely.
However, the widely touted ability to print from an Android phone is not satisfactory. It was easy to download and install the Epson iPrint app from Google Play (Yes, you DO use iPrint; it is not just for Apple products despite the name.). There is also an Epson Creative Print app that lets you do fanciful things like turn your photos into black-and-white "coloring books" for your kids (or you) to play with. From the iPrint app it is straightforward to print your photos. However, if you want to print other kinds of files from your phone, you must go to Saved Documents on the iPrint menu and access the file structure of the phone. This does not work well. I was never able to find, for example, my calendar entries or my contacts from the app. It is not possible to be looking at your calendar or an S Notes document like my Grocery List and print it out directly from that screen. The Epson tech rep told me this is a Samsung issue, not an Epson issue. This may be true, but nonetheless I think their claims about printing from my smartphone are a bit overstated.
Support: Finding a phone number is not easy. It is in the Quick Start Guide and at the back of the online Owners Guide. Otherwise, you are stuck using e-mail; there is no online chat. The tech rep was able to answer my questions about using the Epson iPrint app to print from my phone.
Summary: For normal home use, the nicely compact Epson XP-810 is reasonably satisfactory, but the special features are not as good as I had hoped, and a larger paper tray would be a big improvement. Since the "bells and whistles" were disappointing, I wonder if I could have done as well with a simpler printer.
UPDATE: I downgraded this rating to a 2 based on my experience with the print cartridges and am sufficiently unhappy that I am in the market for a new printer. I do not do high-volume printing and would estimate I average no more than 25 pages a week, practically all in black and white except for an occasional blue hypertext link. My black cartridge ran dry in 6 weeks, despite extending it. I am into the third week of my second cartridge, and the level shows it half gone. All of the color cartridges are also dry. I bought brand-new Epson cartridges and had two bad experiences replacing them that I have never encountered before: The blue cartridge spattered all over when I removed it (despite the fact that it was supposed to be completely empty), and the magenta cartridge had leaked all over its sealed envelope, which required me to go back to Staples and exchange it. Obviously the cost per page for this printer is high; the quality control is questionable; and it is messy to change the cartridges.
