5An excellent computer troubleshooting tool to check hardware and backup data quickly!
By jjceo
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R3ESNLGUA27DL0 I build a lot of computers and servers and fix a lot of systems for my family and friends. Having good computer trouble shooting tools is a real benefit when trying to solve problems. If you have to back up somebody's boot drive in an effort to save their operating system this kit is always a good thing to have. It is also nice to be able to back up their files. This USB 2.0 converter allows you to attach SATA and IDE storage devices to your computer in order to test their hardware or to try to save their files.

You can attach a 2.5 inch hard disk drive, a 2.5 inch SSD drive, a SATA or IDE 3.5 inch HDD or a 5.25 DVD or CD player/burner quickly and easily to your computer for testing. One of the most common problems with computers is that the hard disk drives fail or DVD or CD drives fail. With this very nice testing tool you can quickly help to solve the problem and troubleshoot the issue.

Installing a drive is fast and easy and only takes seconds to do. In my testing I installed a SSD drive rated at 3 GB/second and I connected the unit to a USB 3.0 port. I ran speed tests and I have included them in my video.

Inside of the box you will find:
* An AC power supply and the cable is 30 inches long
* A 48 inch long AC power cord.
* There is an USB 2.0 to IDE/SATA converter. It will connect to a 1.8 to 2.5 inch IDE drive or a 3.5 to a 5.25 IDE connector or a SATA connector. The USB cable is 27 inches long.
* An instruction manual
* A power converter cable to power a SATA HDD and the cable is 4 inches long.
* A SATA to SATA extender cable and the cable is 4 inches long.
* A two pin power converter cable 8 inches long.

The kit contains a very nice power supply that will power different styles of drives. It outputs 12 VDC and 5 VDC at 2 Amps for each voltage. That is important because some drives like a DVD burner need both voltages and 1.5 amps for each voltage to operate. Even a 2.5 inch laptop HDD can draw 600 mA. It is beyond the capability of a USB 2.0 port to provide more than 500 mA DC so this power supply is a wonderful and needed addition to this kit. The power supply can operate on 110 to 240 VAC and 50/60 Hz.

The converter has a USB 2.0 output port that is downward compatible to USB 1.1. The top of the unit has 3 LEDs. They are for the USB activity, the SATA drive activity and the IDE port activity. Remember that drives are sensitive to electrostatic discharge and you must make sure that you discharge yourself before you handle any drive. Many times I even lay the drive onto a static discharge bag to protect it while it is powered and I am testing it.

I connected a SATA SSD drive and did some speed tests to check out the unit's performance. In my read and write tests I had a maximum write speed of 46.281 MB/Sec and a maximum read speed of 44.369 MB/Sec. Overall this is a good external drive testing tool. You can see the test graph in my video review. I rate this product as a 5 star item and I recommend it as a must have for computer geeks and people who repair computers.

I was supplied a sample for test and evaluation and I promised a fair and honest review.

5A very handy and useful device
By J. Chambers
A couple of years ago, my wife's desktop PC failed. Most of the data was backed up, but there were a few files that I needed to get from one of the 250GB hard drives. I was sure that both internal hard disks had not failed, so I pulled them and inserted them into a 3.5" SATA HDD USB docking station (aka a "toaster") that I bought for about $40. I quickly learned that the disk drives were okay, that something else had caused the crash. The PC was old, so we replaced it, but I kept the two drives in case I ever needed one. I used one of those drives to check out the Sabrent hard drive converter.

First of all, the slim little user's guide that comes with the kit is worthless. There are no illustrations, and the instructions are vague at best. Fortunately, there's a card directing you to Sabrent's website, where there are PDF downloads for their products. There are a lot of products listed, but scroll down or search for product #DSC5 - that's the one you want. The PDF file includes color illustrations and clear instructions, and I was able to get everything connected in a couple of minutes. With the 3.5" hard drive, I needed the AC power supply in the kit. If you use the power supply, be sure to connect it first before connecting the USB cable to the computer. With everything connected, I was able to see the drive and could have copied the files if I needed to.

This is a handy little device, and a very useful one. It's also much less expensive than a hard drive toaster, and with the toasters, you have to buy a separate one for SATA and IDE drives. The Sabrent kit works for either type of drive.

A product sample was provided by the manufacturer for review purposes.

5Works like a dream
By JimHCNMT
Plug-n-Play(well...work, really). Works as advertised. Didn't even realize such a thing existed until reading one of those CNET or How-to-Geek articles (can't remember which). But, I had a stack of old hard drives and they had a solution. Never wanted to hastle with powering down my desktop, opening the case, installing the hard drive, powering back up, etc., etc., just to see what was on an old hard drive. This makes it RIDICULOUSLY easy: plug the AC-DC adapter in to your wall socket, plug the IDE connector in to your hard drive (make sure HD control is set to "Master"), the USB connector into your computer, the power cable into the hard drive and you're done! Open Explorer on your computer and scroll down to where your hard drive is recognized as just another readable device (like a USB thumbdrive, etc.) Couldn't be easier .

5It just.. works
By Dayreon
I bought several different third-party USB charging cables and power adapters over the past few months, thinking my Transformer TF201 was nearly a paperweight. None of them ever seemed to work, and I tried every combination - each cable with different wall adapters, as well as each cable plugged into different USB ports on different computers (USB 2.0 and 3.0), then all of those while plugged into the keyboard as well. For some reason, my TF201 charged at a snails pace with one of the cables I had, plugged into my desktop PC, but it never showed it was actually charging. I only write this because maybe you've been through the same thing and it rings a bell.

Anyways, after months of turmoil I finally decided to spend the money on this official Asus one in hopes it would work. It does.

Listen, if your charger stops working, just drop the money on this one and save yourself some headache. Learn from my mistakes.

4Stop, Don't Buy This Yet! Yours Might Still Be Good
By Nick Truong
This charger and cable is the exact one that came with the Asus TF300.

Your charger may not be bad. I found out from reading other reviewers about placing the charger into the freezer for a whole day (place the charger into a ziplock bag to keep dry). Take it out of the freezer (after a day or two) and leave to dry for a few hours then check again. Not sure the reason, maybe it resetting an overcharge circuitry. It charged up my Asus just as new. Now, I have a spare charger and cable.

The overcharge circuitry might be doing its job, but one star deducted since Asus should be letting their customers know about this. Now it makes me wonder how often does this happens to everyone else...

5Remove battery from charger easily! (And review)
By jc92
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2P520P6STPH7H This video is on how to solve the problem with the Wasabi Power battery stuck in the charger. This is an EXTREMELY easy fix with no side effects!
But as for the product itself I am very happy with it so far! The batteries last a very long time because they sent me batteries with 1800 mAh! The charger is decent and it comes with adapters! You can NOT beat this price! I will definitely buy this product again!

I forgot to mention that there isn't a chip in the battery to tell you how charged it is. This can be a problem, but I've managed to get used to it.

5Great Product!
By AvodahFarm
I purchased this set to go along with my Canon T2i and am very pleased with it. The batteries hold their charge well and seem to recharge quickly...because I do mainly video work, battery life is a must and these fit the bill very nicely. I have not used the car charger attachment as of yet but it looks pretty sturdy. Of all the batteries and chargers I looked at, this is the best deal (the whole kit is a fraction of the cost for a single "Canon brand" battery) for a great product.

5Performs like name brand equip yet, price is ultra-low!
By Scott S.
I try to save as much as possible on anything that I purchase. I checked the specs for this unit and it is identical to "name-brand" equip at a fraction of the "name-brand" price. AND THESE ARE JAPANESE CELLS = BEST QUALITY!! Two lithium batteries at same voltage as the original Canon LP-E8 except, 250ma more amp-power which results in longer battery life that is all. Amperage is like horsepower whereas with "sensitive" electronics, voltage needs to be consistent and these are. The Automobile battery charger is the main reason I purchased this and I figured, having two extra batteries and an extra AC charger, just adds more benefit to the deal.

5Virtually silent and FULLY modular.
By Eric Jacobson
The Corsair RM Series is absolutely outstanding from its 80-Plus certification to its CONTINUOUS power ratings to its nearly silent operation plus it truly is fully modular.

SILENT OPERATION

The RM series doesn't turn on the fan as long as the computer is using less than 40% of the power output. This means, unless you're beating the heck out of your machine with Maya 3-D modeling or using the entire Adobe Creative Suite at the same time, you will hear NO NOISE from your power supply. I selected this power supply for a whisper-silent build using a NZXT H630 Case, Nexus fans, and a Cooler Master Hyper 212 CPU cooler along with SSDs, so I wanted quiet. The RM series does not disappoint.

CONTINUOUS 80 PLUS POWER

When you're selecting a power supply, it is absolutely CRITICAL that you select a supply with a CONTINUOUS power rating, not a PEAK power rating. Continuous means the power supply delivers its power rating the entire time it's on with no dipping. Peak power ratings mean that the power supply can hit that power rating briefly, but cannot sustain that power delivery. If you're talking about gaming video cards and/or running lots of drives, you want continuous power. 80-Plus certification means the power supply runs efficiently, doing the best it can to use as little power as necessary so your utility bills don't skyrocket.

FULLY MODULAR

I've been using "modular" power supplies for a few years now, and I've discovered that modular can mean different things to different manufacturers. Some manufacturers believe that modular means that the accessory plugs can be added and taken away, but your main cables such as mobo power and at least one 6-pin power rail are going to permanently attached to the power supply. Not so with the Corsair RM series. You can pick and choose exactly what you want to run off the power supply.

Why is this a big benefit? For the majority of users, it's not. Sure, it's cool to fully customize your power supply, but if it's the only PSU in the box, you'll want to run the mobo power cables, for sure. Where fully modular PSUs are neat is in options: imagine you want to run a triple or quad SLI/Crossfire rig with four SSDs in RAID with four 3TB/4TB HDDs for data? You're going to need a TON of power, possibly more than a single power supply can deliver, but, you won't need two power supplies delivering power to the mobo. Now, you can run two PSUs with only one delivering power to the mobo while the other delivers power to all the HDDs, for example.

OVERALL

The Corsair RM Series is quite possibly the best solution on the market currently for power users who don't want to sacrifice silence for performance. The RM series truly gives the best of all worlds by offering quiet, consistent power at a truly reasonable price.

5RETURN YOUR PSU IMMEDIATELY *Read below!*
By Cindy
It's been confirmed since last year that any RM series that's shipped out with a lot number below 1341 suffers ffrom a defect of the fan not spinning resulting in the OTP tripping.
This hhas been confirmed by corsair rep themselves.
If you DO have one of these models, judging from the thread they're still shipping out the older ones, either return it to Amazon and roll the dice again or contact corsair and they will send you a newer model with a prepaid shipping label!
Please note this issue is generally caused by ppl with rigs that use less than 50% of the psu power.

5Silent operation, high efficiency, great performance under full-load. What more can I ask for?
By Hsiao M.
This review is for the 750Watt model, I've purchased on Newegg.

Built quality and style:
Built like a tank! Well-designed body and 140mm black fan grill with solid metal housing. The paint job is top notch, textured matt black, with subtle yellow & white markings. Fan blade color in grey. will look very good with darker types of case and mobo setups. The side edge of the PSU are angled so that they're not sharp. The RM750 felt like a solid piece of equipment out of box. The PSU profile is not oversized- pretty much fit right into my micro atx gaming rig.

Cables:
Come with c-link cable, mobo (24-pin), cpu (8-pin), molex (3 connectors), molex (4 connectors), two pci-e (6+2 pin dual connectors), two sata (4 connectors), two molex to 4-pin fan adapters. (All cables are flat and comes with text labels)

Noise Level:
One thing that really amazes me is the noise level: I can run the computer most of the time without the RM750 fan ever turning on! The PSU will go "ninja-mode" when under 40% load. and whenever I'm gaming, during full load, the unit's fan is still very quiet.

Pros:
Will fit any PC setup, Silent operation if you want to build a HTPC. Quiet operation if you are running 3d games. 80-plus gold certified efficiency. All cables are FULLY detachable, including the ATX 24-pin! You can really achieve a clean look (if you have a windowed PC) and clutter-free setup that will help increase airflow inside the case. Flat cables are a plus as they are better for cable management in case if you want to hide them behind the mobo tray.

Con:
None

4understand the tradeoffs
By d
This unit gives you sine wave output with no frills at an attractive price.

Be aware of the limitations of this new model at its price point. This is not a desktop product, so don't expect extras like ethernet or coax surge protection. It is less capable than some other APC UPSs with equivalent VA ratings; for example, the SMC1000 is rated for 600 watts, vs. 700 for the SMT1000. It has a 2-year warranty, rather than the 3 year warranty carried by most recent APC products.

Most importantly, this unit uses the new "Microlink" protocol, and does not have an expansion slot for adding a UPSLink interface. This means it will never be possible to fully interact with this unit using open source software, such as NUT or apcupsd; you can only get the most basic information out of it, such as line power up or down. Neither NUT nor apcupsd will be able to query it for load, output voltage, recent events, or many other things.

If these limitations don't concern you, it's a good value, and is the lowest-priced APC UPS with sine wave output. It's perfect for protecting the availability of a small server.

I noted that another reviewer complained of noise, but mine is nearly silent except when operating on backup power.

5Good product, good value
By Tog
The "SMC" line differers from APC's "SMT" line mainly in that you can't plug in their $220 Network Management Card. If you will need that level of sophistication, by all means look at the APC Smart-UPS SMT1500 1500VA 120V LCD UPS System instead.

(Note that APC's older "SC" line that the "SMC" line has now replaced delivered an inferior type of power that only vaguely approximated, through a series of stair-steps, the smooth curves of normal power. The new SMCs deliver the same smooth sine-wave power as the SMTs, erasing the critical difference between the two.)

I've been buying APC sine-wave UPSes for around a decade now and have been very happy. They are smart looking and work well.

4Buzzzzzzzzzz
By Jeffrey Brown
This is a good UPS from a size, capacity, and functionality standpoint, and if you're going to put it in a typical semi-noisy office environment or a server closet, then it's great. But if you have a very quiet office, you'll hear a constant low buzz from the unit. I don't mean the inverter buzz while it's on battery (that's expected) or the buzz when it's recharging after an outage (also expected). But a constant low buzz while it's just sitting there stable. It's on the floor about 5 ft away from my ears, and it's annoying. Maybe I'll get used to it after a while and my ears will notch out the noise, but after a week of listening to it, I'm kinda disappointed. EDIT: Either I'm getting used to it or it's quieting down. It's noisiest when the line voltage is below 120 and the unit is boosting it. Acceptable!

5Fast Flashdisk Performance
By OldAndSmart
Ordered the 32G version. Ran a benchmark on it, and it is able to write at 15 MB/sec and read at 30 MB/sec for large files (posted screenshot). Very fast! The picture makes is look as though the stick is slightly curved, which it is not. Also, the picture conveys a higher quality finish than is actually on the unit. But it does have a very slight "heft" that feels like quality. I like the design which I hope will be a long lasting and ever available keychain dongle. Since it is so new I can't speak to its reliability in this use.

5Fast, durable and solid USB storage
By BranThomps
I ordered the 64 gig version of the Silicon Power Firma ZN flash drive and the similar, but smaller Kingston Data Traveller USB drive. The Silicon Power flash drive is very nice. It fits on my keychain very nicely with a key hole that is perfectly sized to allow wiggle room when using the flash drive with keys still attached. The Kingston flash drive is much smaller, but that makes it hard to handle and it doesn't have any room for your key chain loop to wiggle when you use it still connected. The Silicon Power drive is fast, works great on my Mac and PC as I have it formatted with the factory FAT filesystem. It has held up well for the last three months on my keychain and shows virtually no signs of rubbing against my other keys. I agree with another reviewer who mentioned that the photos make it look like it is curved. It is absolutely flat and actually tapers where the loop is, which makes it fit on a keychain even better. I do find it AMAZING that I am able to carry around 64 gigs of storage on my keychain. Years ago that was a whole stack of hard drives.. many years ago it was unfathomable to have that much space, much less own it for $40. We are the Jetsons! What will my kids have access to???

53 reasons I selected Silver Gray 64gb
By John L Murphy
I read up on many flash drives at the 32-64gb levels. I found the 128gb ones did not seem to please enough discerning customers at Amazon. I opted for a smaller USB 64gb 2.0 one, yet the largest (to date) made by Silicon Power Firma at 64gb, for three reasons. If you want a metal one, ensure you check the Silver Gray option.

1) Sturdiness. It is tough metal and not plastic, so there's less to chip off or wear away. Obviously, the ring attaches to a keychain or lanyard.

2) Design. No cap to lose or slide to wear off the wrong way. Although I hate not having this covered up, it's recessed enough (one hopes) for the protection desired.

3) Price. This meets my needs and is competitive with other brands.

I plugged it in. It fits very firmly, with less wiggle room than a conventional design. Insert and remove it carefully. P.S. While my laptop would not (IE platform installed by my workplace) recognize the set-up, I simply opened up the drive as one would any USB device. I dragged files in and they transferred easily. This is a small size, a bit less in thickness and length than the USB type with a cap, so I recommend anchoring it to a keychain and keeping it off the other keys and metallic items to minimize scuffing or bending, but I'll reckon it's made to last.

5Solid power supply, clean wiring
By absolEQ
I originally purchased the Corsair GS 700. They bill that model as a gaming PSU. Once installed, the PSU made a chirping noise (like a hard drive read/writing, but at a higher pitch). After searching youtube and reading more on the Corsair forums, I found this was a widespread "issue" with the GS 700. The GS model "features" a "smart" fan, which only runs when the load/temperature demands it. What I found is the fan was confused if it should run or not (attempting to kick on, chirping noise, kicking on and it running fine, then back to attempting to kick on and chirping).

When asking about this on Corsair's forums, they recommended an RMA for the same unit. Based on the many youtube videos documenting this noise and the numerous posts around this, I simply returned my unit to Best Buy for a full refund.

In looking into the Corsair models more, the CX is a lower model PSU. Anything above the CX model has the "smart" fan, which I did not want. This led me to this model.

- Great power supply
- Features a constantly running fan (at variable speeds depending on load/temp)
- Modular cabling, which allows for clean cable runs and reduces unneeded wires
- Low noise even with fan constantly running, even at higher loads/temps

While they tout the "smart" fan as a feature, for a gaming rig, I look at it as a drawback. The more airflow, the better.

I have been impressed with CX series and have not had any issues with the PSU. It is structually sound and appears solidly built. Highly recommend this unit to anyone looking for more power in their PC.

I've allways bought Corsair PSU's. One star was removed because of a missing cable. The AsRock B75m-ITX require (like most modern micro ATX motherboards) a 4 pin 12v connector. It's pictured in the discription of this PSU. It is too much of a hassel to send it back to Amazon. Besides that it's rock solid and priced rite. If you are using this mobo be aware that Cosair has the CX430 under evaluation for support of low energy CPU's. They say it most likely supports the Intel's i3-3325's low energy features. It has somthing to do with it shutting down during sleep mode (ultra low trickle). Cosair you can do better! Also, if you want to send me a cable I would gladly add back a star!

Update 12/29/13. I installed the Intest CIR controller yesterday and took another look at that 4 pin 12v connector. I noticed that it could be split in half just like that guy said who commented on this review. The thing is befuddling......so I had to eat my hat and add one more star to this review. By the way, there is no way this cable could go missing. It's one that is not modular meaning it's an appendage of the PSU. This makes it a semi-modular? Anyhow I recommend this PSU and will buy another one.

4Modular is the best!
By Brian
Very easy to install and supplies more than enough power for my rig (i5-3570k and GTX 660 OC 2GB). Well worth the extra bucks for modular components.

5Simple and effective
By M. Laird
We needed a boost to our wifi signal after moving our router to a new location. First we purchased a new 'long range' router that didn't improve anything for us. So we returned that, plugged our old router back in, bought this, plugged it in, walked through 5 mins of set ups...and poof... we have full strength signals in every single room of our 2400 sq ft house. Perfect answer and well worth the $!

5Wow. I'm impressed
By Cliff Mason
I'm an IT Consultant who is constantly researching solutions for clients. This time I needed one for myself. I rarely write reviews, but I had to write this one.

I just moved into a hundred year old brick house. The router is in my office, which is in the upstairs corner. The solid plaster walls created a serious problem getting a signal on the first floor. I had tried a wireless extender in the past in my old house with lousy results.

I researched again, and decided on the Amped Wireless REC10 Extender, based on the reviews. I was blown away. It was fairly easy to set up with a nice web interface and wizard. I played around with it and reset it a couple of times using the reset button, until I understood the settings. I also had to move it around the house to several locations to find the optimal one, which just happened to be the front stairway, which had a power outlet. The signal to the router in my office was over 75% at it's final placement. I was concerned that it was too close to the router and wouldn't reach the rest of the house. I was wrong. Not only did it reach the kitchen perfectly, which previously had almost no signal, it also works in the basement!

The power of this unit is amazing. The reach is much farther than I could have predicted. I was expecting to have to buy an antenna extender, but the small antenna that comes with it was more than sufficient. If it's too much, you can even attenuate it. Try this unit. You won't be disappointed.

4Not trivial, works in many situations, but not all, so make sure you understand what this does and what it does not do
By Trailman
Before you buy this device, make sure you understand its limitations and make sure that it will meet your needs.

In situations where a single access point cannot cover a large enough area, e.g. in a large office, a variety of technologies is available to extend the coverage, either wired or wirelessly.
Repeaters are one option where it is not possible to combine multiple access points to form a mesh network. The objective is obviously to create a single large network where the individual cells are transparent to the client, i.e. where the client will switch between access points without the user noticing a service interruption. This requires that all stations share the same SSID.

This is not what this device does. The Amped support staff calls the REC10 a repeater in forum posts, but I think that it is in fact not a repeater but a range extender, and these terms are not synonymous. The difference is not just semantical, because a range extender spans up its own network, i.e. you have a separate SSID, separate security settings, and as a result have multiple wireless networks. A mobile device that is moved between the coverage areas of those networks will not be able to seamlessly switch between them, but rather require user interaction. The REC10 tries to intelligently merge the IP address ranges of the home network and the extended network by providing its own DHCP server for wireless clients. This is configurable, but not very intuitive, because the settings for the DHCP client and server are lumped together and the details are not documented ("for advanced users"). I have not been able to get my desired configuration working. I would like the device to have a static IP in the home network and serve IP addresses to its DHCP clients from a separate range, or at least forward requests to my home network DHCP server. When I set DHCP to "server" and configured the IP addresses accordingly, it did not work. "Auto" works, but then the device has a dynamic IP address in my home network and I cannot create rules for it in the firewall.
Also, this appears to be causing problems with certain types of routers or other devices in your network. Read the Amped support forum for more details. There is apparently a known set of configurations that will not work. Comcast routers are mentioned repeatedly as unsupported. The fact that Amped has not published unsupported configurations is a frequent source of criticism.

That said, for many this might still suffice. I plan to use this device temporarily to provide better wireless service in the back yard and around the pool. It will not be plugged in unless I want to sit outside or we have guests.

Setting up the device was not as straight-forward as one would hope, but this was mostly my own fault. I have a schedule on the home WLAN that turns the kids' devices off after 9pm so that they sleep and don't surf or watch Netflix in bed. Because the REC10 obtained an IP address from my DHCP server that was not in the list of exceptions, it would not connect to the home network. It took a couple of hours to figure this out - the diagnostic features are limited. Once I gave it a static IP in my wireless network, I was able to add it to the list of devices that are allowed on my home WLAN without time restrictions.

A minor annoyance is the fact that the administration website (at [...] always wants to redirect to [...] even when you access it from the home network via its home network wireless IP (a static IP in my case). This can be convenient if I want to check or change the configuration from my desktop that is on a wired connection. When I browse to the IP address, the home page briefly appears, but then attempts to redirect me to [...] which of course does not work from the home network. I had to add it to my hosts file before I was able to use the web interface this way.

The biggest obstacle in configuring the device is that it reacts to sluggishly to changes. Some things appear to take forever until they become effective, and there was at times a discrepancy between what the web interface showed and what I observed. For example, when the web interface says that there is no connection to the home network, but I am verifyably connected to the REC10 and get fresh web pages served from the Internet, then this is not good.

One potentially attractive aspect of having a separate WLAN for me is the ability to separate clients based on time restrictions. If all the kids devices use the extended network and all my devices use the home network, I don't need to manage individual IP addresses anymore for the firewall rule and can just create a schedule for the REC10's IP address. But this will require that it remains online all the time, so I will have to weigh the pros and cons.

I cannot comment on performance and throughput yet, or if IPv6 is supported.

For reference, here is my network configuration that I can now confirm works with this device:
- Verizon FIOS service
- My router/firewall/WLAN access point is a Netgate M1n1wall running pfSense 2.0.3. It is connected directly to the FIOS feed. I do not use the Verizon router.

3Optimistic power claims
By Nicholas J. Rose
I'm an electronics engineer so I care about specifications. This amplifier is a low cost item which offers reasonable value, but I wish they would be more honest with their claims.

My measurements show 21.5V rms continuous into 4 ohms at the onset of clipping with a 14.12V supply. This is 115W rms.
With no load it gives 23.9V with 14.12V supply. This corresponds to 142W rms peak.

So, essentially it is a 100-150W amp (4 ohms), or at best 200-300W (probably less) into 2 ohms. The claims of 250W into 4 ohms or 1100W into 2 ohms are at best ridiculously optimistic.

I would suggest that it is worth paying a bit more to get something better.

5The Real Deal
By Ron M
Sorry folks...

But there are a couple of myths, being two pieces of (...dare I say it?) outright misinformation that have become attached to this compact masterpiece, ...even though I'm sure both of them were offered with the best of intentions.

As for me, I thought I'd wait until I'd driven it hard and bounced it around the Aussie Outback for a couple of months before any attempt at reviewing it.

A little background: I'm an Audio Director/Sound Supervisor in my fifth decade of ongoing work in this field, most of it live (or "as live") and on location.

My Boss Audio R1100M is used to drive either full-spectrum sub plus line array or horn plus ported-woofer long range speakers (a choice dependent on the vagaries of weather and/or crowd numbers) at impedances from four to sixteen ohms, ...the only constant factor being the need to rely exclusively on DC vehicle power.

The verdict: ...five stars. No doubt whatsoever.

The Boss Audio R1100M delivers far more than something that's roughly the price of a case of beer should ever be able to do.

(What a crying shame that its excellent internal fan-cooling arrangements don't actually extend to chilling beer. Now that WOULD be a world-beater...)

To those well-intentioned myths:

First, "The Remote Subwoofer Level Control doesn't work."

Not when the amp's switched to "Full Range" it doesn't.

When it's in "Full Range", it isn't expecting to be driving just a subwoofer, is it? Switched to "Low Pass" (i.e. subwoofer) mode, the remote control works a treat.

Second, "It's under-powered."

Hang on a cotton-picking second, did you honestly expect to have mountain-moving power for the price of a case of cold ones?

Now look at it's main fuse. It's 30 amps. That's your lot, any more and it all goes dark and quiet until you replace the fuse.

Time for some basic arithmetic, 12 x 30 = 360. That's 360 watts of total power going in.

Wait a second, my alternator kicks out a gargantuan 14.4 volts! Whoopee! Hurrah! Huzzah! Hallelujah! I've now got an earth-shattering 432 watts at my command!

...Uuh, ...um, ...well, ...er, ...I WOULD have if everything inside the immaculately designed Boss-Box yielded 100% efficiency.

Sadly, 100% efficiency from ANY power system is the stuff of Nobel Prizes and/or science fiction.

(Trust me when I say that you won't ever again need to consult anyone's review of anything after YOU'VE developed a power system that's 100% efficient.)

Meanwhile, back in the "Real World", guess what?

With power being wasted to generate heat, run cooling fans and the losses inherent in each and every electronic step taken, the BEST amplifiers are around 25% efficient.

25% of 432 watts?

That would be 108, just a tad LESS than I (and others) have observed to be the continuous power actually (and reliably) delivered from this tiny Boss-Box into 4 ohms.

The controls all do exactly what they're meant to do. The sound is clean, gutsy and free of artefacts, so, by way of a conclusion, here's the outcome of some OTHER basic arithmetic I did prior to buying it...

I can't buy an aluminium housing of comparable ruggedness for the price of this entire amplifier.

5This little amp packs a big punch!
By Tumor Boy
I use it to power two 10 inch kicker subwoofers and it has no problem doing so. It sounds better than my old pioneer amp! Its smaller than most amps I've seen and BOSS glows blues when it turns on which is just a cool bonus. It only has one channel so if you are going to hook two subs up to it you have to bridge them but that lowers your Ohms and sounds better anyway in my opinion. It is a great amp and you can't beat the price, highly recommended!!!

5Really great if you're running high end parts.
By Justanotherbuyer
When it comes to Power Supplies, never be stingy and spend a good amount on a solid one. Corsair is one of the most well known PSU companies and their supplies are up top in terms of qualities and specs. When it comes to buying a power supply it is important to remember that two things are needed:
1. Enough watts, look up the total watts of everything you own and buy a power supply that is at least 100w more so as to give you enough headroom for upgrades or overclocking if thats your cookie.
2. Enough Amperage. This is veryyy important. The +12v rail is whats important as most modern cards require a minimum of 25A on a single rail. Dual rails are also nice if they are each at 25. For example, my XFX DD Black edition Radeon HD 7970 will not run on my old psu. It was a solid Rosewill 600w psu which had more than enough watts to run it, however, the thing maxed at 35A on both rails together. The minimum needed for the card was 36. This PSU, has 750w and the following ratings on each charge: +3.3V@25A, +5V@25A, +12V@62A, -12V@0.8A, +5VSB@3A.
+12v@62A is excellent for the card now. This also gives me headroom if any future parts require more Amperage or watts. The price is seriously perfect here on Amazon. The power supply retails for 100 bucks on other sites.

PROS:
-Great price
-pci express power at 62A (+12v)
-sleeved components with the cables reaching full tower( they arent short cables so it works on an NZXT Phantom and an Antec twelve hundred tower.) Both of which are full towers.
-active APF correction
-80 plus bronze (Not found often at this price point level with this amount of watts)
-750W (More than enough for sli gtx 660's) or in my case, still more than enough for my xfx overclocked 7970, 9 fans, 2 hard drives, fan controller, card reader, blu ray drive, dvd burner, 8gb ram, overclocked cpu and bigger more powerful cpu fan.
-power protection
-a nice big fan

CONS:
-its not modular, but at this price, who cares?aha.
EDIT: OCTOBER 11th 2012-The first one arrived with a definite loud buzzing so I had to exchange it. It happens with mass electronics and typically just bad luck. Corsair was good about it and the new unit was perfect.

DO NOT get stingy when it comes to power supplies. If a 850w power supply is selling for 50 dollars from a random company, you will put your other parts at risk. This one offers Over-voltage and over-power protection, under-voltage protection, and short circuit protection provide maximum safety to your critical system components.

It is also rated at 80 plus BRONZE. Which is excellent for the price. At this price range you mainly see psu's with just 80 plus certification. This one is one step higher.

Lastly, the card offers 0.99 Active Power Factor Correction provides clean and reliable power. (APF) for short. Another thing that is not found at this price range.

Top this with a 3 year warranty and bam, solid computer.
Don't let a cheap power supply kill your whole system, with this excellent brand, only the power supply will die if it eventually happens. A cheap psu will more than likely take it, along with all your expensive components.
For reference, here are my specs>
-Processor: intel ivy bridge i5 3570k @3.5ghz
-CPU Cooler, at the moment: standard intel one. getting: thermal take frio OCK
-Video Card: XFX Double D Radeon HD 7970
-Memory: 8gb Patriot intel extreme series ram @1600
-Hard Drive: 500gb Seagate drive
-Case: Thermaltake Msi Snow edition mid tower
-Power Supply: Corsair Builder Series CX 750 Watt
-Fans: 4x Coolermaster 120mm fans
-Motherboard: AsRock Pro 4 H77 mATX

FOLLOW UP EDIT December 2nd 2013: ***Sorry for the wrong date here. I meant December 2nd****
The power supply is still going very strong. The system it is now powering involves additional lights, watercooling, another drive, and a max overclock on the card. The cable sleeving on the 24 pin board power has become rigid and a ripping in areas. However, with a few cable ties it isn't so bad.

5Amazing 80 Plus Bronze power savings, very quiet
By M. McFall
This is a great deal for an 80 Plus Bronze certified 500W power supply. If you are running any machines 24/7 on power supplies that aren't 80 Plus certified, let alone Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum, there are a good amount of power savings to be had. For the layman, anything labelled 80 Plus certified means it is 80% efficient at 20,50 and 100% loads. Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum are even more efficient, respectively.

I had thought that I had tuned my file/media server/video encoder to be pretty energy efficient. It consisted of an i5 2500k, 16GB DDR3, no video card, 5 WD Green drives, 3 WD Black drives, one SSD, two internal PCIE SATA 3 extenders, and a BD-R drive, running Win 7 Professional 64. It consumed about 62 Watts at idle, and 73-80 Watts under moderate load, when streaming or transcoding high bitrate 1080p video. Not bad, and about the same as leaving a single incandescent lightbulb on. All of this was powered by a several year old sturdy Thermaltake Purepower 500 (W0100RU). The old power supply was not 80 Plus certified.

I got this Corsair 500W 80 Plus Bronze power supply because the price is fantastic at around fifty dollars, and the old power supply was getting loud. I wasn't expecting phenomenal power savings, but according to my UPS wattage reading, this power supply is kicking butt! My file server now idles around 40W and operates at 56-63W under moderate load. These are big, big savings. I had no idea my old power supply was so energy inefficient. Considering the higher electricity cost in Southern California, this power supply will save me about $4 each month, possibly more if it helps prevent me from crossing into higher Tier level payments. It will pay itself off in savings within a year, and after that, will start providing me with some real savings. $4 a month in savings may not sound like much, but in a tight economy, every bit helps. On top of the power savings, this power supply is also whisper quiet.

Due to the high savings I experienced, and out of curiousity, I ordered a 400W FSP Aurum 80 Plus Gold power supply ($76), to see how much more efficient a Gold certified PSU is in relation to Bronze. Statistically, the difference should be minimal, and I have a feeling this Corsair will prove to be the highest value, in terms of cost:savings. Updates to be posted accordingly.

UPDATE 10/20/2012:

I've put this PSU up against a slightly more expensive, lower wattage, but more efficient FSP AURUM GOLD 400-Watt 80 PLUS Gold Certified ATX Power Supply Compatible with Intel Core i3 i5 i7 AU-400 to compare the efficiency ratings of Bronze and Gold.

The FSP Aurum 400 80 Plus Gold came in the mail today and here are the results:
On my system, as detailed above, it idles at 32W, operates around 60W under moderate load. Very, very nice. These results are a bit better than the Corsair, as expected, but I'm going to have to stick with the Corsair as the best value proposition-- My reason being-- the Corsair is a 500 Watt power supply and supplies 38 Amps on a single 12v rail. The FSP Aurum is a 400 Watt power supply and supplies 18 Amps on a single 12v rail, but has two 12v rails for a combined 36 Amps. The Corsair CX500 is useful for a wider variety of computer uses, as the single 12v rail providing 38A meets the minimum requirements of most of today's higher end video cards, while also having great efficiency for lower power 24/7 machines like video servers. The FSP Aurum has up to 36A, but it's split into two 12v rails, and not all video cards have two plugs for power. This, along with the 400W rating mean that it is not suitable for higher end gaming computers. The Corsair's higher Wattage rating means it has a bit more headroom for high end/high power CPU+GPU combos. The price differential, for me at least, means that it would take about half a year longer to recoup the extra cost of the 80 Plus Certified Gold on the Aurum, compared with the Corsair. At the CX500's price point, it is definitely the best bang for the buck, particularly if you are coming from a PSU that isn't 80 Plus, and the machine is on 24/7.

4Does what it is supposed to
By Zalzan
Upgraded my graphics card to a new one (GTX 660) and needed to upgrade my power supply as well. This seemed like a well rated, well priced appropriate option, so I bought it. Was easy enough to install, runs quietly and effectively, has lots of extra hookups to handle whatever I might have in my system.
Only complaint, which is really more a lack of foresight on my part, is that there were no actual instructions in the box. The one thing that would have been super handy to know is that if you have a 4 prong ATX12V motherboard plug, you have to take the 8 prong plug this comes with and split it in half. They clearly explain this on their website, but that is harder to access with your power supply out and halfway replaced :). Otherwise, great product, great value.
