A perfect case but they did not install the magnets for the Sleep/Wake function! Come on man, what were you thinking!

I have also purchased 4 of them for friends and family as gifts. This model is really the best one yet for protection and clarity of the screen for the iPad Air. There is only one major issue for me and that is the fact that Otterbox did not include the magnets in the snap on lid to put the iPad to sleep or to wake it up to conserve battery power.

I put together a video to show the benefits and features of this new case and basically it is nicely designed. I like the screen shield as it is clear and easy to see through and use. That has been my major complaint in the last two generations of iPad Defender cases and frankly I cut the screen shield out of the old cases as they made the retina screen look granulated and it diminished the quality of the screen image. This model has a clear shield and it really is very good when compared to the older versions.

The synthetic rubber outer layer is tight and the texture on it is very nice. It will not show scuffs and finger prints as easily as the one I have on my iPad 3.

I have to tell you that I am upset about the failure of Otterbox to put the two magnets into the snap on lid for the sleep/wake function. For me that is a major feature. I review a lot of products and I have already reviewed multiple cases with the magnets built in and even Bluetooth keyboard cases for the iPad Air with this feature. There simply is no excuse for having not included this feature that conserves iPad battery power. For me the case was just rushed to market to make shipments for the Christmas season as the expense of loyal customers that would have simply expected this feature as a standard built in part of the design. It is like buying a car and not getting brakes on the car. Just think, who would even think to ask if a car came with brakes or not or if an $89.95 case had a basic sleep/wake feature for an Apple iPad.

I rated this case as a four star item and it would have clearly been a 5 star review with this feature built in. Dear Otterbox, come on man, what were you thinking!

Extremely disappointed in this case.

I'm extremely disappointed in this case. I had an iPad 3 and an OtterBox Defender case to go with it and never had any issues with it at all. In fact it was - and still is - by far the best tablet protecting case I've been able to find.

Fast forward to just recently when I upgraded to the new iPad Air. I came here looking for an OttterBox Defender case and couldn't find one. Went to their website and couldn't find one there either. I ended up buying a temporary case from Amazon until I could find a Defender. Finally they became available here on Amazon. I purchased it, though I thought $89 was a little steep for a case, especially since I only spent around $50 or so for the last one. However, I felt at the time it was worth it as I'd become a fan of the Defender series.

I just received the case in the mail. Opened it up and immediately noticed the magnets that were in the lid to put the device to sleep when the lid is closed were not there. Doing a bit of researching, it seems OtterBox has decided to remove one of the main benefits of the case (the magnets for putting the device to sleep when the lid is closed) and jack the price up an extra $30 or so.

Completely unacceptable, in my opinion.

Come on, OtterBox. I've been a fan of your products for a while now. I've used them for my tablets as well as my phones, and I've talked friends, family members, and coworkers into purchasing them as well. I expected much, much more from you than this.

Having had an Otter Defender Case for my iPhone the ...

Having had an Otter Defender Case for my iPhone the past year, I anticipated purchasing the just released Defender Case for the iPad Air. It is a substantial case, shipped in several parts, with a minimalist instruction sheet packed inside. The positive points included the fit and finish of the product and the case's built in four-way stand (2 vertical and 2 horizontal options for respective portrait and landscape use). The case weighs 1 lb, 1 1/2 oz, a little more than the bare iPad Air (obviously, protection was the primary consideration in the design). With the plastic rear component (containing the stand), the case is one inch thick and ten and a quarter inches long. Negative points were the three broken fingernails during assembly and a scratched plastic screen protector (I will request a replacement from Otter). Had the assembly been less dramatic, and the plastic screen protector not been scratched, I would have given a higher score.

Dec.13...After contacting customer service re: the defective item, and forwarding two images of the case, I have been told I would receive a replacement as soon as they become available (backordered at this time). Upon receiving the new component, I will reevaluate my rating...dh

January...requested and received a replacement case from Otter. Replacement plastic screen protector was also scratched (quality control re: plastic screen protectors appears less than optimal ), but increased rating by one star in that Otter made a good faith effort to replace original case. Printed instruction sheet needs to be reviewed along with online video to reduce frustrations incurred while assembling.

Lots of positives, few negatives

Compared to the iPhone 4S version of this case this is a complete redesign. Part of that was required because of the new dimension, port locations and size of the iPhone 5, but other parts seem to be a genuine attempt at improvements.

Positives
--Feels very well protected.
--Newer rubber material is more plasticky than previous versions. Better feel, nicer fit and seems less likely to stretch over time. Also doesn't catch when going into the pocket.

Neutral
--Edge on the front glass is significant. This doesn't encumber my typing but I am aware of it. Of course, this is part of the protection of this case and is a fair trade-off in my opinion.
--General thickness. Definitely distracts from the beauty of an iPhone 5. This is not a flaw in the product, though, just a decisions making point for the consumer. That thickness is, once again, a trade-off for protection.

Negatives
--Power button has a ton of resistance while in this case. Not sure if this will break in with time or not.

Having said all of that I recommend this case whole-heartedly if you're looking for a good amount of protection and you're willing to trade some sleekness for it. For me it seems like a significant step up in materials and fit and finish quality over the previous versions.

Offers great protection!

I am not going to write a complete review, but I have to chime in on an 'issue' people are commenting on regarding this case.

No, this case is not sleek, it's a !@$*& otter box. If you bought this case, or are considering buying this case, it's because you want to protect your phone and prevent any damage from occurring. This phone is perfect for that purpose.

It may not still be as small as just the phone in your pocket, but who expects that when they buy an otter box? This case protects my phone great. It has a silicone insert which you put your phone into first, and then you put it into the hard, outer shell. This case even comes with a screen protector. Well worth the money in my opinion.

And on another note, the power button is not as hard to press as people make it sound, and I am sure it will get easier to press the longer you own the case.

The only thing I might say could be improved upon would be to put rubber on the bottom side of the case (perhaps a rubber bumper in each corner) to prevent it from sliding around. I have noticed when I toss the phone on my desk, it slides quite a bit. Perhaps my desk is just clean, but that's the only thing I could nit pick about this wonderful case.

Solid protection, moderately slim and lightweight

Bottom line: The Otterbox Commuter case is great protection for your iPhone 5 investment. And it's sleeker and lighter than the negative reviews might lead you to believe.

My highest priority was to protect this $400 gadget from damage. I also have preschoolers who are additional risks to anything fragile! Check.

At the same time, I wanted something with good design that would fit unobtrusively in my pants or shirt pocket. Check and check.

Also wanted materials that are durable. Time will tell, but my initial analysis indicates check.

FYI, I compared to the Otterbox Defender, which offers more protection, but is bulkier and more noticeable in my pocket. Also compared it to several different Speck cases, which appeared to offer similar protection at the same price, but did not come with a screen protector. Plus, the Otterbox color combinations, from black/white to lime green/navy, accommodate a range of tastes.

The criticisms in other reviews appear overblown. Regarding on/off switch stiffness, this isn't a factor at all. The case fits the phone perfectly. I didn't notice the "rough" edges on the bottom back because I don't hold it there.

In my four years of owning iPhones, iPads and cases, my experience is that no case is "perfect." If you want solid protection without too much bulk, this case is worth your consideration.

Defender Cases have come a long way!

I was a little hesitant at first when ordering this case due to the fact that the defender cases have been super bulky in the past. Much to my surprise, Otterbox and their Defender Series Cases have come a long way since I contemplated ordering one a few years ago. This case is extremely thin for the protection it seems to offer. The build quality is superb and should protect the phone very well! I love the built in screen protector as opposed to trying to line up the sticky screen protectors with a few of the cheaper cases. The price seems fair as well. I paid $49.95 on Amazon. If ordered directly from Otterbox it will cost around $10 more.

At the time of this post, the Lifeproof Case for the s5 has not been released. A huge deciding factor in choosing Otterbox over Lifeproof is the mixed reviews the s4 Lifeproof Case received about echoing when people try to talk to you.

The belt clip seems to be nice and lock the case into place, but realistically I'll never use it. I keep my phone in my pocket. The buttons seem stiff, but from what I've read it's common at first on Otterbox cases.

Overall, this case is a little pricey costing about 25% of the phone's cost after a contract renewal, but I feel it's definitely worth it (especially when you consider the alternative is paying full price for an s5 because yours broke in the middle of your contract). Lifeproof will cost you about $20-$30 more.

Good protection, but cutout is not aligned

The overall protection is good. The cutout on the phone does align perfectly with the button and covers the button slightly. Also, the lip at the bottom of the case is a little to high if you are using the fingerprint scanner on the phone. This makes it slightly difficult to swipe your finger. The back has a heart rate monitor, which is accessible because Otterbox sloped the edge on the back. They should have done the same on the front. Also, if you place the phone face down this case will slide on a table because the hard plastic is raised higher than the outer rubber. While I was ordering the case I was worried that it would be too bulky, but this does offer great protection for the phone without adding too much bulk.

Great case for protection, but makes fingerprint and heartbeat sensor hard to use

I have really enjoyed this case over the past 4 days, but it won't be for everyone. For those that are rough on phones, don't mind using a standard pass code, and don't want to use the heartbeat sensor it will be the perfect case.

Pros:
-The case fits great and is much better than the defender I had for the iphone 3Gs.
-It installs quickly and doesn't leave air bubbles between the screen protector and display.
-The case is grippy without sticking to pockets.

Cons:
-The lip around the front of the screen makes the fingerprint scanner difficult to use, but it will work as long as you drag your finger across both the sensor and lip.
-The bezel around the camera makes the heartbeat sensor hard to use as well and I have had more issues with that than the finger print sensor. I wouldn't recommend this case if you are planning to use the sensor often, but it will work if you are just going to toy around with it.
-The case weighs around the same as the phone and adds a little bulk.
-The charging port is a little hard to get to, but can still easily be opened with fingernails

It just.. works

I bought several different third-party USB charging cables and power adapters over the past few months, thinking my Transformer TF201 was nearly a paperweight. None of them ever seemed to work, and I tried every combination - each cable with different wall adapters, as well as each cable plugged into different USB ports on different computers (USB 2.0 and 3.0), then all of those while plugged into the keyboard as well. For some reason, my TF201 charged at a snails pace with one of the cables I had, plugged into my desktop PC, but it never showed it was actually charging. I only write this because maybe you've been through the same thing and it rings a bell.

Anyways, after months of turmoil I finally decided to spend the money on this official Asus one in hopes it would work. It does.

Listen, if your charger stops working, just drop the money on this one and save yourself some headache. Learn from my mistakes.

Stop, Don't Buy This Yet! Yours Might Still Be Good

This charger and cable is the exact one that came with the Asus TF300.

Your charger may not be bad. I found out from reading other reviewers about placing the charger into the freezer for a whole day (place the charger into a ziplock bag to keep dry). Take it out of the freezer (after a day or two) and leave to dry for a few hours then check again. Not sure the reason, maybe it resetting an overcharge circuitry. It charged up my Asus just as new. Now, I have a spare charger and cable.

The overcharge circuitry might be doing its job, but one star deducted since Asus should be letting their customers know about this. Now it makes me wonder how often does this happens to everyone else...

Outstanding protection with definite drawbacks - UPDATED

Review Update (5/28)

I recently switched to another case after over 7 months of hard use. Three reasons: 1) aesthetics, 2) the headphone jack, and 3)the screen protector. I've left my original review intact after the break.

Summary: While this case is no longer the best protection available for the iPhone 5, it's a great value as a solid no-frills case. This case is still compelling at its new price point despite how long its been on the market. See my original review below for more detail.

Additional Thoughts: The headphone jack issue and screen protector feel ultimately had me searching for a new case. Many of the newer cases, including some from Otter Box, are much more feature-rich and offer even better protection than this case at higher price points.

Updated Aesthetics: The utilitarian look and feel of the case turns out to have at least one major benefit: you can beat this case up without guilt. I had several major drops and bumps with this case. The result? Zero damage to the iPhone and negligible visible damage to the Otter Box rubber bumper. My newer case, while nicer to look at, doesn't tolerate wear and tear nearly as well.

Summary: If you're looking for the best protection for your iPhone 5 right now, this is the case you're looking for. The fit on the iPhone 5 is superb, and the peace of mind it will bring you is worth the cost of entry if protection is the utmost priority. The case makes some compromises to afford you that protection, which could be a dealbreaker if you're not totally onboard with a bulkier case. I'll detail those below.

Installation: Installation is a breeze if you've ever used an OtterBox case before (I hadn't). The best way to start is to open up the tab on the upper left corner by the volume controls, then pull the silicone bumper off the case with your fingertips. Things are easy from that point on.

Durability: Rock solid. I field tested this in NYC over the weekend, and the case acquitted itself very well. Wasn't at all worried about it, and minor bumps and the usual commuter jostling while trekking around the city were no match for this case. I haven't dropped it yet, but would be willing to bet the phone that it will survive the usual momentarily clumsiness onto city sidewalks.

Bulk/Aesthetics: These are the biggest--and related--points of contention. Much has been said about this, so I'll say this plainly: if you don't like the pictures of this case, nothing about seeing this in person will change your mind. From a usability standpoint, if you're a male wearing slim or skinny jeans, the front pocket is out of the question. Back pockets work surprisingly well, and retrieving the phone quickly is slower but still doable. If you're a female and wear skinny jeans, you'll need to carry this in your purse for sure. You'll also need to make room accordingly.

Feel: Somewhat subjective, but important enough to warrant mentioning. The screen protector that comes with the front panel of the hardshell interior doesn't quite sit flush the screen. As a result, the case takes off some of the "snappiness" of the UI. This is most noticeable when you lightly swipe the screen, since it sometimes doesn't register. Additionally, you can actually feel the screen depress slightly while working with the phone. This is less annoying than when I first noticed it, but it's still an issue I'm struggling with personally.

Headphone jack: The headphone jack is troubling, and this is where the bulk of the case works against it. Earbuds with square, 90 degree jacks (or even straight jacks that are bulkier than usual) will NOT fit on this case. The bulk of the case means that a 3.5mm that isn't straight and slim won't sit flush with the jack. This also applies for the auxiliary cables to connect to your car's entertainment system. (For reference, I'm using the Monster aux cables, which are slightly larger at the 3.5mm end.)

Lightning cover: I thought the cover for this was well done. The lightning connector sits well protected by a cover that integrates nicely with the case.

Recap/Bottom Line: This case is worth the 4 stars for the sheer amount of abuse it can withstand. The tradeoffs to usability and aesthetics are understandable, but noteworthy. If you've read this far and are still on the fence, you should probably weigh this case against a slimmer case with a separate screen protector.

Balanced review after testing it for a day with iPhone 5

I got my iPhone 5 today (through carrier sources) though it's yet to be activated and the first thing I did naturally was put the Otterbox Defender case on it. I had the Defender for my 3GS and it protected my phone all these years. Didn't have the iPhone 4/4S so I can't compare it to that. Quick impressions so far:

PROTECTION - Protection wise, the iPhone 5 Defender is at par with the 3GS. Industrial grade protection with complete coverage. Same concept and overall design, though the silicone feels slightly thicker and more solid in the 5. The silicone has a matte finish compared to the smooth finish in the 3GS, which hopefully should help avoid dust and lint - this was the only drawback with the 3GS case, it needed cleaning frequently.

BUTTONS/PORTS - Power and volume buttons are covered with silicone shaped like the buttons themselves. No problem pressing either of these buttons with the silicone. The headphone jack, charging port, and silent button have silicone plugs that can be pulled out to expose the jacks. (TIP - to open the plugs, insert nail and push the top silicone part higher to get behind the plug to pull it out. Hope this makes sense. The headphone plug is tiny and it can take some time getting used to opening it). The charging port plug, when opened, keeps snapping back into the case, which means it has to be held open with one hand to insert the charger. Insignificant issue, and I'm hoping that with use, this piece will loosen up a bit so that it stays open if needed. Opening at the back for the Apple logo is covered with a transparent plastic film. The front camera/speaker, the back camera/flash, and the two speakers at the bottom are left open and are the only exposed parts of the phone.

SCREEN COVERAGE - Clear plastic film on the screen integrated into the case, the touchscreen experience is as good with the film as it is without the case. The transparent film creates a tiny layer of air or moisture between itself and the screen, which can create watermarks on the screen. This was an issue with the 3GS as well. (TIP - I had read several forums for my 3GS that recommended applying baby powder before installing this case, but I personally didn't find that to be a lasting solution. Applying an Anti-Glare film to the phone's screen before installing the case was the best solution. I am still waiting for my Anti-Glare film to come in, but I installed a spare I had for my 3GS just to see if that solved the issue with the 5, and it did).

HOLSTER - The silicone is kept intact with two plastic tabs on the side. This really helps keep the silicone in shape and prevents it from stretching or loosening over time. These tabs also work as the locking mechanism for the holster. The case can be inserted facing in or out in the holster, a fine improvement by Otterbox. Most such holsters I have seen only allow face-in orientation (3GS allowed only face-in which I found annoying when going for a run). This holster has a fully rotating belt clip so that it can be attached vertically or horizontally on the belt. No chance of the case falling out, nice secure fit. The holster is much better and ergonomically designed than the 3GS version. It is easier to access the phone with this design.

Here are a few details that I would have liked to see improved/addressed:

- Front and back camera openings - the two openings are huge! The front camera/speaker/light sensor opening is one big opening. For the 3GS version (3GS only has speaker on the front, no camera) and from what I have seen for the 4S, the cases had a precision opening which provided better overall coverage. For the back, the opening is approximately 30-40% bigger than it should be for the camera and flash. It would have been nice to have more precise openings on both places for even better protection.

- Headphone jack plug - this perhaps has more to do with the placement of the headphone jack itself, but the case opening is really small and it's not very smooth to open the silicone plug. For the 3GS, the silicone plug went around the headphone jack to the back, which made opening it a breeze. They could have used the same design for the 5 as well. With the current design, it takes time opening the headphone plug. It's entirely possible it is just something that takes getting used to, or that the silicone will loosen over time making it easier to open.

- The iPhone 5 is a super sleek, light, and slick looking device. Putting the Defender case makes it bulky (more than doubles the thickness). Now this is a pro in that it offers super-protection which I cannot live without. The downside is that it takes away the aesthetic beauty of the iPhone.

I bought this in black when that was the only color available. Now it seems there are a lot more choices. Wish I had waited for the Glacier (just a personal preference)!

Other than these minor issues, I am overall very happy with this case and I hope to use it for several years to come, just I did with my 3GS Defender. Yes, it's slightly expensive, but it's also peace of mind.

UPDATE 10-12-12

The watermark issue seems to be persistent with this case and nothing seems to permanently help in this regard. The anti-glare film bridges the gap somewhat but only for a few days. The screen in the case lifts right back up after a few days and creates the watermark issue all over again making it difficult to use the screen. I am sending this back to get a different case. Yes, I want to protect my iPhone which is why I was willing to put up with the bulk of this case, but I can't give up functionality.

An Otterbox is an Otterbox

I have owned and used an Otterbox case for my iPhone 4 and my iPad 2 and now, finally, for my iPhone 5.

These cases are great and offer a lot of protection. With that being said, you have to anticipate this case making your phone a little bit bulkier. I personally tend to love the added "bulk" that this case adds to my phone because I have very large hands and long fingers. This case gives my phone the extra bulk needed to allow me to grip it and text without letting my hands get fatigued or painful.

As with all of their other products, this case is extremely well-made and fits the phone perfectly. If you've never owned an Otterbox before then perhaps you should check out some pictures before deciding if this case is right for you. If you've ever owned an Otterbox... Then you know exactly how great these things are.

Here's a funny side story:

I once left my iPhone 4 (inside of its Otterbox, of course) on the of the roof of my car after the gym and drove away. While going 50 m.p.h I heard a huge "thud" on the side of my door and had no clue as to what it was. Long story short, I realized that my phone had basically fallen off of the roof, slammed into my door and hit the pavement and was completely fine. The case and the phone didn't even have a dent.

Great for the essentials!

I took a chance on this case- I had an Otterbox Defender for my iPhone 5 which I loved but I was intrigued by the idea of not having to carry a wallet for the essentials (driver license, credit card, debit card, and some Cash).

I can fit 3 cards in this case plus two folded bills of Cash. My "go to" card is always on top (it's the easiest to get out) and the case does exactly what I want it to do- carries the essentials so I grab my phone and go. It also protects my phone (it's the Commuter series, so it's not quite as rugged as the Defender but overall it's about the same size which isn't bad at all).

The cards inside are very secure and the case is designed so it's impossible for your stuff to fall out. My one complaint was that the screen protector it came with had stickers on it that didn't peel off cleanly and made it pretty much worthless so I don't use it- but I'm so satisfied with the case that it doesn't affect me giving it 5 stars.

More Trouble Than It Should Be

I like the idea of a wallet case for my iPhone and doing away with my wallet. The fewer things to carry, the better. But wallet cases are very limited. The idea is that they are cases for occasional use, such as when you are going out for the night and only want to carry an ID and credit card. This wallet case can only carry three cards or two cards and three folded bills.

Otterbox Commuter cases are two piece cases that have a silicone layer covered by a hard shell. They aren’t my favorite because the hardshell doesn’t quite fit right leaving tiny gaps. Two piece cases take more effort to get on and off which is more of a problem on a case made for occasional use. The black on black color scheme turns the handsome iPhone into an all-black design-free box.

Otter likes to put rubber plugs over the jack openings which offers extra protection, but is a pain when you want to charge or plug in headphones. The volume button covers work well, but the on/standby button cover make it stiff and lacking in tactile feel. Otter provides a clear screen protector and applicator card.

Cards fit in the wallet case by sliding down the back panel revealing the compartment. The slide is stiff and there is no grip for your finger to press against. You have to press against smooth sloping plastic. When you get the slide open, you have to dig you finger nail under the top card so you can pry it up and out.

This wallet case is too much trouble for me. But if it fits your needs, this case should offer good protection and durability. Two and a half stars.

The geek equivalent of the double-edged sword

This is another well made case from Otterbox. I've had Otterbox cases for my iPhones and iPads and they've always performed well. They aren't stylish, but they protect your device. I've used them for travel mostly, and have never been disappointed.

This "Wallet Case" checks all the usual Otterbox, um, boxes: Protective? Check. Grippy? Check. 80's Volvo-like Styling? Check. Yep, it's an Otterbox all right.

But one with a twist. Because this case resolves that nagging dilemma we all have: how do I carry my iPhone AND my credit and ID cards in one place?

Dilemma resolved. This case is that place.

Otterbox added a sliding tray on the back of one of their tough cases. From the front and back and the added "bump" isn't noticeable. In profile however or in the palm of your hand it's there alright. Think of the top of a 747 and you'll get the idea. A little curvature on an otherwise continuous line.

In that bump of a tray you can fit a pair of credit cards and your driver's license. Great for the minimalist traveler or a night out clubbing. That is if you go to hipster clubs where geeky dual-purpose cases are cool.

I don't go to clubs like that. I don't go to clubs. But if I did, this is the case I would take.

Go ahead and drop it while dancing crazily to the DJ's Devo dub: both your iPhone and credit cards will be just fine.

Just don't lose it. Then you'll never be able to call that girl in the Warby Parker frames who put her number into your phone. Plus you'll have no way to pay for the cab ride home. Double bummer, dude.

So there you go. The "OtterBox Commuter Series Wallet Case for iPhone 5 & 5S"--the geek equivalent of the double-edged sword.

Virtually silent and FULLY modular.

The Corsair RM Series is absolutely outstanding from its 80-Plus certification to its CONTINUOUS power ratings to its nearly silent operation plus it truly is fully modular.

SILENT OPERATION

The RM series doesn't turn on the fan as long as the computer is using less than 40% of the power output. This means, unless you're beating the heck out of your machine with Maya 3-D modeling or using the entire Adobe Creative Suite at the same time, you will hear NO NOISE from your power supply. I selected this power supply for a whisper-silent build using a NZXT H630 Case, Nexus fans, and a Cooler Master Hyper 212 CPU cooler along with SSDs, so I wanted quiet. The RM series does not disappoint.

CONTINUOUS 80 PLUS POWER

When you're selecting a power supply, it is absolutely CRITICAL that you select a supply with a CONTINUOUS power rating, not a PEAK power rating. Continuous means the power supply delivers its power rating the entire time it's on with no dipping. Peak power ratings mean that the power supply can hit that power rating briefly, but cannot sustain that power delivery. If you're talking about gaming video cards and/or running lots of drives, you want continuous power. 80-Plus certification means the power supply runs efficiently, doing the best it can to use as little power as necessary so your utility bills don't skyrocket.

FULLY MODULAR

I've been using "modular" power supplies for a few years now, and I've discovered that modular can mean different things to different manufacturers. Some manufacturers believe that modular means that the accessory plugs can be added and taken away, but your main cables such as mobo power and at least one 6-pin power rail are going to permanently attached to the power supply. Not so with the Corsair RM series. You can pick and choose exactly what you want to run off the power supply.

Why is this a big benefit? For the majority of users, it's not. Sure, it's cool to fully customize your power supply, but if it's the only PSU in the box, you'll want to run the mobo power cables, for sure. Where fully modular PSUs are neat is in options: imagine you want to run a triple or quad SLI/Crossfire rig with four SSDs in RAID with four 3TB/4TB HDDs for data? You're going to need a TON of power, possibly more than a single power supply can deliver, but, you won't need two power supplies delivering power to the mobo. Now, you can run two PSUs with only one delivering power to the mobo while the other delivers power to all the HDDs, for example.

OVERALL

The Corsair RM Series is quite possibly the best solution on the market currently for power users who don't want to sacrifice silence for performance. The RM series truly gives the best of all worlds by offering quiet, consistent power at a truly reasonable price.

RETURN YOUR PSU IMMEDIATELY *Read below!*

It's been confirmed since last year that any RM series that's shipped out with a lot number below 1341 suffers ffrom a defect of the fan not spinning resulting in the OTP tripping.
This hhas been confirmed by corsair rep themselves.
If you DO have one of these models, judging from the thread they're still shipping out the older ones, either return it to Amazon and roll the dice again or contact corsair and they will send you a newer model with a prepaid shipping label!
Please note this issue is generally caused by ppl with rigs that use less than 50% of the psu power.

Silent operation, high efficiency, great performance under full-load. What more can I ask for?

This review is for the 750Watt model, I've purchased on Newegg.

Built quality and style:
Built like a tank! Well-designed body and 140mm black fan grill with solid metal housing. The paint job is top notch, textured matt black, with subtle yellow & white markings. Fan blade color in grey. will look very good with darker types of case and mobo setups. The side edge of the PSU are angled so that they're not sharp. The RM750 felt like a solid piece of equipment out of box. The PSU profile is not oversized- pretty much fit right into my micro atx gaming rig.

Cables:
Come with c-link cable, mobo (24-pin), cpu (8-pin), molex (3 connectors), molex (4 connectors), two pci-e (6+2 pin dual connectors), two sata (4 connectors), two molex to 4-pin fan adapters. (All cables are flat and comes with text labels)

Noise Level:
One thing that really amazes me is the noise level: I can run the computer most of the time without the RM750 fan ever turning on! The PSU will go "ninja-mode" when under 40% load. and whenever I'm gaming, during full load, the unit's fan is still very quiet.

Pros:
Will fit any PC setup, Silent operation if you want to build a HTPC. Quiet operation if you are running 3d games. 80-plus gold certified efficiency. All cables are FULLY detachable, including the ATX 24-pin! You can really achieve a clean look (if you have a windowed PC) and clutter-free setup that will help increase airflow inside the case. Flat cables are a plus as they are better for cable management in case if you want to hide them behind the mobo tray.

exactly what I wanted

Fast shipping and great customer service. The case fits my Verizon Galaxy S3 perfectly. The picture on the website comes out turquoise, but it is not as florescent. It is more of a pastel mint color, which is exactly what I wanted. I was initially shipped a product with a little chip of color missing in the front. When I contacted the seller, they promptly replied and sent me a replacement. I didn't even have to send back the defective item. Definitely satisfied with the product as well as service! :)

I rarely review products but this one deserves my time. Of all the phone cases I have ordered over the years this is absolutely the best one ever. Perfect form and fit. And the slight tacky feeling helps against drops. Yet it is smooth enough not to attract grime and finger prints. And my favorite color. I absolutely love it and will be ordering again in other colors.

Update 6/11/13: Just an FYI folks, this is currently at 34.82 and free shipping! This is a no brainer, and a steal. None of the stores around me are giving any kind of discount....if they have it.

I still love this case, but I did want to let you know that if you rely on the vibration to notify you, you might miss some calls. This does soften the vibration quite a bit. If you are holding it, it's not a problem, but sometimes, when it is on my belt with a shirt tucked in, and I am walking, I do not feel the vibration. There is no problem if I am still. I also think that this is in part due to the phone. The vibrate strength, even on full, is not as strong as my old phone, so the extra cushion from the case just softens it up even more....but you know what, this weekend I have seen three people with this phone and Belkin cases and they all had cracked glass!

After getting a Belkin case for my S4, it took me only an hour to go out and buy the Otterbox 77-27434 Defender Series and Holster Case for Samsung Galaxy S 4 - 1 Pack - Retail Packaging - Black. The difference is night and day and while this is more than twice the price of the Belkin it is totally worth it! Plus, you don't need to spend money on a screen protector, so it really isn't that much more.

The Defender is really a three piece, full coverage, case. It provides full coverage for your S4, corners, back, front, screen and it has flip covers for the charger connection, etc., and those flips flip up easily, even without fingernails. The case itself provides excellent grip all around without being intrusive. It is a little difficult pressing the buttons on the face, but my fingers are a little big. One of my FAVORITE things is the screen protector....NO bubbles! Yup, you heard me right, no bubbles. That's because you don't actually have to "apply" the protector to the screen. This is awesome. If you look at every screen protector I have reviewed for my iPhones and iPads, they all had bubbles....I have come to hate bubbles, and thought I would have to learn to live with them. I am here to tell you, I am now bubble free (and so is my wife)!!!

When pressing the side buttons you do have to press a little hard, but for the protection you get, it's fine. Also, the openings for the camera are angled so that the thick case does not appear in the pictures. The case itself is micro-textured to provide good grip without feeling rough.

There is NO interference at all with using the IR when reading and scrolling down by nodding my head or turning a page with a wave of my hand. Sharing pictures and video work equally as well with no perceptible interference. The only real issue is that I did notice a slight difference in wi-fi reception in our house with the case on. It is slightly weaker, but nothing big, and after one day I don't even think about it. The entire screen isvisible and nothing is blocked.

The only thing that I would knock half a star for is the clip is uncomfortable and digs into my skin when it's on my belt, and is especially bad when my shirt is not tucked in. They could have made this better, and I wonder ifI will come and downgrade this to 4 stars later because of this. For now, I will say 4.5 stars with an easy round-up to 5.

Instructions when installing your phone:
CAREFULLY remove the rubber gasket, using your fingernails. There are little spaces along the sides. You need to use these to seperate it or you risk breaking it. Once that is done, the rest is easy. Try not to touch the inner portion of the screen as it comes perfectly clean (at least it did on both of ours). Putting everything together after this pointis easy and takes less than 30 seconds. Gently click everything together and you are ready to go.

We both love this case and I highly recommend it.

Solid, seamless protection, exactly what you'd expect from OtterBox...

I bought an OtterBox case for my previous Galaxy device and loved it, so when I upgraded to the S4, buying a case was an easy choice. The Defender Series provides very, very solid protection for your phone with as little added bulk as possible.

PROS:
--Case fits with the S4 as tight and seamlessly as possible.
--Two piece hard case plus rubberized exterior pull-over provide protection that is the best I've found available.
--Easy to assemble and take apart when you do need to get the phone out.
--Proper openings for camera, flash and speaker on the back, for sensors and speaker in front.
--Pull out tabs for headphone and mini-USB jacks. Keeps dust out. These tabs are now reinforced with plastic, an upgrade from my last Defender case for the Galaxy which had standard rubber tabs.
--Sleek, black design goes very well with the black S4.
--Bottom of case does not interfere with home key or softtouch keys at the bottom of the phone (this was a problem w/ my old one).
--Raised lip on the case surrounds the screen, providing perfect protection from scratcing.
--Comes with a built in screen protector (some will like this, I did not, see below).

CONS (Not much here really):
--Raised rubber areas where you press down the power button and volume rocker require a heavy press for the buttons to function. This was not the case on my old Otterbox, which only required a natural press of the botton/rocker. This may be a problem that goes away with more use, but this was the first problem I noticed, having to really mash the button down to get it to work.
--Was not a fan of the built in screen protector, I didn't figure I would be when I made the purchase though. In fact I removed it after only a few hours of use. It didn't noticeably affect the touch screen, visual impact was minimal. The screen had a couple minor flaws (couldn't tell if it was scratched or what). I'm OCD about things like that so it wasn't going to work for me. If you want a case without a built in cover, you should probably know that the protector is glued into the plastic casing. It isn't something you can slide right out. This isn't to say it is difficult to get out. It is glued down, but you can easily lift up a corner and remove the screen. The glue will pull off easily in one piece as well. It really isn't a big deal, but it might be a good idea for OtterBox to consider a slide-out screen protector or something like that for those who either don't like the one that comes with it or don't want to use them at all (I am the latter, the raised lip on the OtterBox keeps the screen protected very well for me, I had my last Galaxy in one of these for 2 years and traded it in without a single scratch, no screen protector, the screens on this series of phones has been very durable in my experience).

BOTTOM LINE:

If you have an S4 and want maximum protection for your device, this is the way to go in my opinion. It protects the phone with less added bulk than one would guess or surmise from the photos. The case fits snugly and blends well with the phone. Minor drawbacks with the power and rocker buttons, and the screen protector wasn't personally for me, but overall these are negligible issues, it's a great case!

Looks Like It Will Protect My New S4

I dropped my iPhone 4G for the first time while on vacation two weeks ago. Even though it was in a fairly padded flip case, it hit just right on the granite floor and cracked the front glass of the iPhone. Replacing the glass would have been as expensive as upgrading to a similar phone or half the cost of getting the iPhone 5 or the Galaxy S4. I chose the Galaxy S4.

I did not buy this Otterbox case at Amazon although I would have saved some money. I spent the extra to immediately protect my new S4 when I purchased it at my local AT&T store. I got the Raspberry case because it would be hard to lose in my purse.

So far I am exceptionally pleased with this case. It does not add much weight to the phone (which is quite a bit larger than the iPhone) and it fits well in my (female) hand. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for excellent protection for their S4.

Cute covers are fun but protection is critical as I found out when I dropped my iPhone. In a case like this I know it would have survived the fall.

UPDATE: Two months later and I am very happy that I bought this case. I'd have liked to save a few dollars by buying it on Amazon but waiting a couple days to receive it didn't seem a good option after dropping my iPhone.

I just finished installing a microSDHC card into my phone which meant removing the Otterbox case for the first time. It was simple to remove and to replace once the card was installed.

I admit I had several cases for my iPhone, some better protection than others. This is the only case I have for my s4. If I get another case it will be the same case in a different color.

Really great if you're running high end parts.

When it comes to Power Supplies, never be stingy and spend a good amount on a solid one. Corsair is one of the most well known PSU companies and their supplies are up top in terms of qualities and specs. When it comes to buying a power supply it is important to remember that two things are needed:
1. Enough watts, look up the total watts of everything you own and buy a power supply that is at least 100w more so as to give you enough headroom for upgrades or overclocking if thats your cookie.
2. Enough Amperage. This is veryyy important. The +12v rail is whats important as most modern cards require a minimum of 25A on a single rail. Dual rails are also nice if they are each at 25. For example, my XFX DD Black edition Radeon HD 7970 will not run on my old psu. It was a solid Rosewill 600w psu which had more than enough watts to run it, however, the thing maxed at 35A on both rails together. The minimum needed for the card was 36. This PSU, has 750w and the following ratings on each charge: +3.3V@25A, +5V@25A, +12V@62A, -12V@0.8A, +5VSB@3A.
+12v@62A is excellent for the card now. This also gives me headroom if any future parts require more Amperage or watts. The price is seriously perfect here on Amazon. The power supply retails for 100 bucks on other sites.

PROS:
-Great price
-pci express power at 62A (+12v)
-sleeved components with the cables reaching full tower( they arent short cables so it works on an NZXT Phantom and an Antec twelve hundred tower.) Both of which are full towers.
-active APF correction
-80 plus bronze (Not found often at this price point level with this amount of watts)
-750W (More than enough for sli gtx 660's) or in my case, still more than enough for my xfx overclocked 7970, 9 fans, 2 hard drives, fan controller, card reader, blu ray drive, dvd burner, 8gb ram, overclocked cpu and bigger more powerful cpu fan.
-power protection
-a nice big fan

CONS:
-its not modular, but at this price, who cares?aha.
EDIT: OCTOBER 11th 2012-The first one arrived with a definite loud buzzing so I had to exchange it. It happens with mass electronics and typically just bad luck. Corsair was good about it and the new unit was perfect.

DO NOT get stingy when it comes to power supplies. If a 850w power supply is selling for 50 dollars from a random company, you will put your other parts at risk. This one offers Over-voltage and over-power protection, under-voltage protection, and short circuit protection provide maximum safety to your critical system components.

It is also rated at 80 plus BRONZE. Which is excellent for the price. At this price range you mainly see psu's with just 80 plus certification. This one is one step higher.

Lastly, the card offers 0.99 Active Power Factor Correction provides clean and reliable power. (APF) for short. Another thing that is not found at this price range.

Top this with a 3 year warranty and bam, solid computer.
Don't let a cheap power supply kill your whole system, with this excellent brand, only the power supply will die if it eventually happens. A cheap psu will more than likely take it, along with all your expensive components.

The power supply is still going very strong. The system it is now powering involves additional lights, watercooling, another drive, and a max overclock on the card. The cable sleeving on the 24 pin board power has become rigid and a ripping in areas. However, with a few cable ties it isn't so bad.

Amazing 80 Plus Bronze power savings, very quiet

This is a great deal for an 80 Plus Bronze certified 500W power supply. If you are running any machines 24/7 on power supplies that aren't 80 Plus certified, let alone Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum, there are a good amount of power savings to be had. For the layman, anything labelled 80 Plus certified means it is 80% efficient at 20,50 and 100% loads. Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum are even more efficient, respectively.

I had thought that I had tuned my file/media server/video encoder to be pretty energy efficient. It consisted of an i5 2500k, 16GB DDR3, no video card, 5 WD Green drives, 3 WD Black drives, one SSD, two internal PCIE SATA 3 extenders, and a BD-R drive, running Win 7 Professional 64. It consumed about 62 Watts at idle, and 73-80 Watts under moderate load, when streaming or transcoding high bitrate 1080p video. Not bad, and about the same as leaving a single incandescent lightbulb on. All of this was powered by a several year old sturdy Thermaltake Purepower 500 (W0100RU). The old power supply was not 80 Plus certified.

I got this Corsair 500W 80 Plus Bronze power supply because the price is fantastic at around fifty dollars, and the old power supply was getting loud. I wasn't expecting phenomenal power savings, but according to my UPS wattage reading, this power supply is kicking butt! My file server now idles around 40W and operates at 56-63W under moderate load. These are big, big savings. I had no idea my old power supply was so energy inefficient. Considering the higher electricity cost in Southern California, this power supply will save me about $4 each month, possibly more if it helps prevent me from crossing into higher Tier level payments. It will pay itself off in savings within a year, and after that, will start providing me with some real savings. $4 a month in savings may not sound like much, but in a tight economy, every bit helps. On top of the power savings, this power supply is also whisper quiet.

Due to the high savings I experienced, and out of curiousity, I ordered a 400W FSP Aurum 80 Plus Gold power supply ($76), to see how much more efficient a Gold certified PSU is in relation to Bronze. Statistically, the difference should be minimal, and I have a feeling this Corsair will prove to be the highest value, in terms of cost:savings. Updates to be posted accordingly.

UPDATE 10/20/2012:

I've put this PSU up against a slightly more expensive, lower wattage, but more efficient FSP AURUM GOLD 400-Watt 80 PLUS Gold Certified ATX Power Supply Compatible with Intel Core i3 i5 i7 AU-400 to compare the efficiency ratings of Bronze and Gold.

The FSP Aurum 400 80 Plus Gold came in the mail today and here are the results:
On my system, as detailed above, it idles at 32W, operates around 60W under moderate load. Very, very nice. These results are a bit better than the Corsair, as expected, but I'm going to have to stick with the Corsair as the best value proposition-- My reason being-- the Corsair is a 500 Watt power supply and supplies 38 Amps on a single 12v rail. The FSP Aurum is a 400 Watt power supply and supplies 18 Amps on a single 12v rail, but has two 12v rails for a combined 36 Amps. The Corsair CX500 is useful for a wider variety of computer uses, as the single 12v rail providing 38A meets the minimum requirements of most of today's higher end video cards, while also having great efficiency for lower power 24/7 machines like video servers. The FSP Aurum has up to 36A, but it's split into two 12v rails, and not all video cards have two plugs for power. This, along with the 400W rating mean that it is not suitable for higher end gaming computers. The Corsair's higher Wattage rating means it has a bit more headroom for high end/high power CPU+GPU combos. The price differential, for me at least, means that it would take about half a year longer to recoup the extra cost of the 80 Plus Certified Gold on the Aurum, compared with the Corsair. At the CX500's price point, it is definitely the best bang for the buck, particularly if you are coming from a PSU that isn't 80 Plus, and the machine is on 24/7.

Does what it is supposed to

Upgraded my graphics card to a new one (GTX 660) and needed to upgrade my power supply as well. This seemed like a well rated, well priced appropriate option, so I bought it. Was easy enough to install, runs quietly and effectively, has lots of extra hookups to handle whatever I might have in my system.
Only complaint, which is really more a lack of foresight on my part, is that there were no actual instructions in the box. The one thing that would have been super handy to know is that if you have a 4 prong ATX12V motherboard plug, you have to take the 8 prong plug this comes with and split it in half. They clearly explain this on their website, but that is harder to access with your power supply out and halfway replaced :). Otherwise, great product, great value.

Solid power supply, clean wiring

I originally purchased the Corsair GS 700. They bill that model as a gaming PSU. Once installed, the PSU made a chirping noise (like a hard drive read/writing, but at a higher pitch). After searching youtube and reading more on the Corsair forums, I found this was a widespread "issue" with the GS 700. The GS model "features" a "smart" fan, which only runs when the load/temperature demands it. What I found is the fan was confused if it should run or not (attempting to kick on, chirping noise, kicking on and it running fine, then back to attempting to kick on and chirping).

When asking about this on Corsair's forums, they recommended an RMA for the same unit. Based on the many youtube videos documenting this noise and the numerous posts around this, I simply returned my unit to Best Buy for a full refund.

In looking into the Corsair models more, the CX is a lower model PSU. Anything above the CX model has the "smart" fan, which I did not want. This led me to this model.

- Great power supply
- Features a constantly running fan (at variable speeds depending on load/temp)
- Modular cabling, which allows for clean cable runs and reduces unneeded wires
- Low noise even with fan constantly running, even at higher loads/temps

While they tout the "smart" fan as a feature, for a gaming rig, I look at it as a drawback. The more airflow, the better.

I have been impressed with CX series and have not had any issues with the PSU. It is structually sound and appears solidly built. Highly recommend this unit to anyone looking for more power in their PC.

Missing 4 pin 12v cable..........what's up with that? Update: I found it!

I've allways bought Corsair PSU's. One star was removed because of a missing cable. The AsRock B75m-ITX require (like most modern micro ATX motherboards) a 4 pin 12v connector. It's pictured in the discription of this PSU. It is too much of a hassel to send it back to Amazon. Besides that it's rock solid and priced rite. If you are using this mobo be aware that Cosair has the CX430 under evaluation for support of low energy CPU's. They say it most likely supports the Intel's i3-3325's low energy features. It has somthing to do with it shutting down during sleep mode (ultra low trickle). Cosair you can do better! Also, if you want to send me a cable I would gladly add back a star!

Update 12/29/13. I installed the Intest CIR controller yesterday and took another look at that 4 pin 12v connector. I noticed that it could be split in half just like that guy said who commented on this review. The thing is befuddling......so I had to eat my hat and add one more star to this review. By the way, there is no way this cable could go missing. It's one that is not modular meaning it's an appendage of the PSU. This makes it a semi-modular? Anyhow I recommend this PSU and will buy another one.

Best 2-line I've ever used

Having used 2-line phones for over 30 years, I have purchased (and discarded) many different types and brands ranging from standard desktop "cheapies" to exotic high-dollar radio frequency models. After buying a single line Panasonic multi handset cordless (KX-TG9331T)a few years ago and using it every day without a single problem, I decided to try the 2-line DECT 6.0 multi-line multi-handset model, and it has performed as well as its predecessor.

Pros: Excellent range (over 700'), Easily replaceable AAA rechargeable batteries, Easy to set up and install, and very solid construction. Can switch handsets or join conference with single button press. Connections for single 4-wire OR double 2-wire RJ-12 connectors. Built-in answering machine. Excellent call time battery life between charges (over 5 hours on a single conference call!). Speakerphone option is crystal clear and actually loud enough to hear.

Cons: None

Overview: This is by far the best multi-line cordless set you can buy, and for the price point, it beats many of the other higher priced models even my $1,100.00 RF system. Having used Panasonic cordless phones for over five years, they are now the only phones I use at home and at work.

We love this phone system!

This phone system makes our business run so much more smoothly. We love the flexibility of the 2-line cordless phone connected to the corded phone. It was easy to learn how to use, the buttons are good sized, it is back-lit, and the options for the ringer allow us to choose a pleasant tone plus ringer off option for night time.

Hear Bose sound before you bash it

I did quite a bit of research before getting the Bose SoundDock II. I wanted a dock that would work with my iPod touch 2G, have superb sound quality, and preferably charge my iPod while docked. Well I have to say that I got all i wanted and then some with this unit.

I read some reviews online written by "audiophiles" and supposed "sound experts" bashing Bose for selling overpriced and underpowered equipment. These people just don't get it. I won't go on to bore you in detail about the ridiculous things that were said but I will mention that these people are comparing the SoundDock to a home stereo setup that entails having a receiver with two separate wired speakers. Is this a fair comparison? I beg to differ.

To summarize this product it's a compact unit you can have in virtually any room in the house minus a bathroom (for safety purposes) and its sound can be described as warm and beautiful with deep enough bass to make your sound come alive but not wake the neighbors. Clear, never distorted at any volume. You get what you pay for.

A great way to play your tunes easily.

The Bose SoundDock has the Bose quality sound you would expect. It is a great way to play your IPOD, just plug it into the dock and play. You do not have any control over bass and treble, just volume. The remote has a good feel to it and responds well. There is a small green light in the dock that lights up each time you press a remote button. You will usually use the remote to change the volume, select the next or previous track and turn it on/off. The SoundDock itself only has 2 buttons for volume up and down.
The volume goes louder than I expected and I never have turned it up all the way, even when the kids are playing their IPODs.

There are a few things they could have improved......The power cord has the transformer built into the middle of the cord, it should have been built into the unit. The power cord plugs straight into the back of the SoundDock with a small round plug and it will come out easily if the unit is moved. The docking station is a seperate piece that is attached and it moves around a little which makes it feel loose. There isn't an on/off switch on the unit, just the remote, so you have to turn the IPOD off or use the remote to turn them both off, or just pull the IPOD out. My SoundDock was missing one of the stick on rubber feet on the bottom. I called Bose support and they mailed me one free.

Overall it's a great quality unit where it counts but Bose cut corners where they could on the rest of it.

We do love it and use it almost everyday.

Good Sound, Poor Functionality

The sound quality is very good for the price point and the size. That said, the remote does not interface correctly with my ipod. Specifically it does not allow the user to move through the menus as it is supposed to. I thought at first the Bose system was defective so I returned it for a new one but the second one has the same problem. All the other remote functions work properly but in order to navigate through the menus on the ipod I either have to hold onto it in the docking station (it doesn't have a snug fit-another drawback) so that the pins don't come loose, or else I have to take the ipod out of the docking station all together, make my music selection and then put it back in the dock. This is a major flaw in an otherwise good product.
