5Defender Cases have come a long way!
By Dueces Wild
I was a little hesitant at first when ordering this case due to the fact that the defender cases have been super bulky in the past. Much to my surprise, Otterbox and their Defender Series Cases have come a long way since I contemplated ordering one a few years ago. This case is extremely thin for the protection it seems to offer. The build quality is superb and should protect the phone very well! I love the built in screen protector as opposed to trying to line up the sticky screen protectors with a few of the cheaper cases. The price seems fair as well. I paid $49.95 on Amazon. If ordered directly from Otterbox it will cost around $10 more.

At the time of this post, the Lifeproof Case for the s5 has not been released. A huge deciding factor in choosing Otterbox over Lifeproof is the mixed reviews the s4 Lifeproof Case received about echoing when people try to talk to you.

The belt clip seems to be nice and lock the case into place, but realistically I'll never use it. I keep my phone in my pocket. The buttons seem stiff, but from what I've read it's common at first on Otterbox cases.

Overall, this case is a little pricey costing about 25% of the phone's cost after a contract renewal, but I feel it's definitely worth it (especially when you consider the alternative is paying full price for an s5 because yours broke in the middle of your contract). Lifeproof will cost you about $20-$30 more.

I'll try to update this review accordingly as time progresses!

3Good protection, but cutout is not aligned
By Jarrod
The overall protection is good. The cutout on the phone does align perfectly with the button and covers the button slightly. Also, the lip at the bottom of the case is a little to high if you are using the fingerprint scanner on the phone. This makes it slightly difficult to swipe your finger. The back has a heart rate monitor, which is accessible because Otterbox sloped the edge on the back. They should have done the same on the front. Also, if you place the phone face down this case will slide on a table because the hard plastic is raised higher than the outer rubber. While I was ordering the case I was worried that it would be too bulky, but this does offer great protection for the phone without adding too much bulk.

4Great case for protection, but makes fingerprint and heartbeat sensor hard to use
By MacGyver
I have really enjoyed this case over the past 4 days, but it won't be for everyone. For those that are rough on phones, don't mind using a standard pass code, and don't want to use the heartbeat sensor it will be the perfect case.

Pros:
-The case fits great and is much better than the defender I had for the iphone 3Gs.
-It installs quickly and doesn't leave air bubbles between the screen protector and display.
-The case is grippy without sticking to pockets.

Cons:
-The lip around the front of the screen makes the fingerprint scanner difficult to use, but it will work as long as you drag your finger across both the sensor and lip.
-The bezel around the camera makes the heartbeat sensor hard to use as well and I have had more issues with that than the finger print sensor. I wouldn't recommend this case if you are planning to use the sensor often, but it will work if you are just going to toy around with it.
-The case weighs around the same as the phone and adds a little bulk.
-The charging port is a little hard to get to, but can still easily be opened with fingernails

5A great way to protect an expensive investment
By Lorenzo Montezemolo
If you've owned an Otterbox case before you know they're not the slimmest most stylish cases, but you probably also know that they offer among the best protection for your mobile device. The Otterbox Commuter Series for the Samsung Galaxy S5 is no exception on both counts: it makes the device slightly bulkier, but it also provides some great protection inside the device and out: inside because it offers impact protection if the device is dropped; outside because it keeps the device from getting scratched or scuffed.

An additional unanticipated benefit I found with the Otterbox Commuter Series for the Samsung Galaxy S5 is that even as a person with a rather large hand, the handset without a case on it is quite slippery and feels a bit awkward in your palm. I found the Otterbox provided some much-needed grip to the device as well as making it generally more comfortable to hold.

Pros:
-Easy installation: mine took only about a minute to put into the case, including the time it took to open the packaging. If you choose to use the screen protector your install time will likely be a bit longer.
-Ergonomics: Holding my phone became much more comfortable once I slipped it into the case.
-Protection: not only does the Otterbox's rubbery exterior make dropping the phone less likely, but it also protects it if you do end up dropping it.

Cons:
-Fingerprint scanner: the Otterbox Commuter Series for the Galaxy S5 does not have a cut-out below the center button, so sliding your finger across the button in order to unlock the device means your fingertip runs into the bottom lip of the case. The fingerpritn scanning still works really well, but sliding your finger across the center button when scanning your fingertip feels slightly less-than-natural. To defend the design, I will say that a cutout in that spot *might* reduce the protection the case provides, so it's a slight inconvenience I am more than happy to deal with. For that reason I feel comfortable rating this a 5 in spite of that minor shortcoming.

Summary: All in all I have found this to be an extremely well-designed and well-built protective case for my Samsung Galaxy S5. I love how grippy and comfortable it makes my handset and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to provide some physical protection for a rather expensive investment.

4Looks and feels great
By DGoll
Colors are as expected. The quality and feel are definitely worth the money.

Only negative I have (at least with the case I purchased), the top right corner does not fit flush with the rubber liner and protrudes. I have yet to determine what is the cause of the protrusion. but it is not enough to discourage anyone from buying the case.

5Second time Otterbox Owner
By Matthew Wietzke
I owned one of these cases on my Samsung S2 Skyrocket, and I bought another one when I upgraded to the S5. These cases are slightly bulky, but I can attest to the fact that they protect your phone when dropped. When I had my S2, I dropped it several times with one of these cases on, and now that I'm trading in the phone, I noticed there wasn't a single scratch on the phone after 3 years of use.

Another reason I purchased this case is because OtterBox is a great company. When I had my S2, my OtterBox screen cover had a scratch. I called OtterBox and they sent me a brand new case in less than a week - now that's customer service.

This case fits the S5 perfectly and the screen cover is awesome, hardly any difference from having no screen cover on. However, it is a little bit harder to down swipe when using the finger print scanner as the bottom bezel of the case inhibits downward movement of your finger.

There is only one gripe I have with these cases. After a lot of use, the silicone/rubber portion (I think they call it the "slip cover" layer on this model) will start to lose shape and get loose around the phone, especially on the ends where you plug in your earphones & charger (the S5 model doesn't have silicone/rubber around the charger opening, only the headphone opening). I found that boiling the silicone/rubber piece in water for about 5 seconds and then letting it cool, restores the silicone/rubber to its original fit.

If you buy this case, you can be assured that your phone will be protected and this case will last for years.
