5Yes, it IS perfect!
By She is
I have never worn such a perfectly fitting headset in three decades. It is snug without being tight. The earphones are convex (rounded out) so that the pressure is distributed more gently over the rims of the ears while at the same time focusing the sound right into your ears and getting the best filtration of outside ambient noise (without shutting it out entirely, which is important to me, as I do need to hear what is going on in airports and at home, though I want it pushed into the background).

The sound coming through the earphones and through the microphone are both superb -- clear, deep and resonant speech, reception and recording. It's hard to believe how good it is, considering this is, technically speaking, a "low-end", light-weight, computer headset. If only it were collapsible/foldable, too! (There are other versions that are.)

The cable is super-long, about 7' all let out, and a bit thicker than most, with solid seals at every connection, including the in-line controls, so it doesn't look like they will pull apart or be damaged very easily, which is usually what goes wrong first with many headsets.

As for the packaging, it's one of those super-tough, vandal-proof, hard-plastic enclosures, BUT this one has a hinge-seam at the bottom that is easy to cut, unlike most such packages.

All told, I am thoroughly impressed with the quality of this headset and extreeeemely pleased with my purchase at a ridiculous bargain price the day I found it.

5Perfect item for me.
By Zuz
When I bought a new PC several years ago, I signed on to Skype service to communicate with my children who live overseas. With the PC microphone and speakers, the sound quality was marginally adequate. And moving around in my chair affected the sound from my microphone heard by the other party. I decided try the Plantronics stereo headset based on information gleaned from various sources. During my first use of the headset, the other party commented on how clear my voice sounded. The result was the same at my end. And the long cord provided with the headset gave me ample room to move about during the conversation. For my purposes, it has worked out perfectly.

4FInally!!! Binaural Headset I can use while on the treadmill.
By Rikki B. Schwartz
It took me several HOURS of searching online to finally find a headset (with good reviews) that would allow me to talk on the phone while on the treadmill! Who would have thought it would be that difficult to find a) a **BINAURAL** headset (wherein BOTH of my ears are covered, thereby cancelling out the very loud noises of my fan and treadmill); and b) a **noise-reducing** microphone (again, reducing the fan and treadmill noises for my listener). I received it with great anticipation, and after playing with the adjustments a bit (found that earphone volume all the way up, but microphone volume at "medium" allows me AND the listener to have optimal reception), I can now talk on the phone and walk or run on the treadmill without any problems. It was worth the search - especially for the price. But DON'T FORGET everyone (if you plan to use these for your telephone) to get the "Headset Buddy Adapter: PC Headset to Phone Adapter PC35-PH25" - which converts the *dual* 3.5mm male ends of these headphones to a *single* 2.5mm male end (to fit into your phone's single female connector). Also, don't forget, that if you plug everything in and you can't hear your phone's dialtone, you probably have the right male jack plugged into the left female connector of the Adapter and vice versa (which I may or may not have done ;0)

4Not bad at ALL for the price
By Goose
This headset is actually not bad at all. What impressed me was the 50mm diameter speakers, while playing a game you will have no problem hearing little sounds like footsteps. Another thing I noticed is that these are actually not bad when it comes to noise cancellation. The build quality is not the best but don't forget this headset is under $40. If you somewhat are a gamer and you need an above average headset, these are for you. Trust me you will not regret buying these.

5Spectacular
By Kyuu
I previously had an $180 pair of headphones that were really comfortable, but the mic kept cutting in and out. GameComPro1 PC Gaming Headset A friend I play games with recommended Turtle Beach, and I saw this cheaper pair that had not yet released. I preordered and got it earlier than I expected, so I was pleased on the response time.

With the actual headphones, I've found two problems. One, I'm worried that the mic moves TOO much, but with the design, I'm not worried about the wires getting messed up with the dynamic link-type of movement. So it's plastic, but very protected. Then, the cups of the actual headphones clasp completely around my ears. At first it was painful to wear, but they've morphed to my large head since then, and fit wonderfully. So just the mic one is a really big deal, but that just means don't wrap and unwrap the mic and twist it every which way for long periods like any other mic.

But the sound quality is amazing, and the volume and mute buttons on the cord are higher up, compared to my last set which was at my feet pretty much. The cord is also not that long, so my chair isn't on the cord all the time. The plastic itself is pretty indestructible, my roommate stepped on it and it was fine. A bit big to take for handheld devices, especially with the mic, but wonderful for online gaming. The sound quality of my voice sounds great, better than my last pair. I would recommend this to anyone.

5Best Headset in its price bracket
By Tassadar
This is an excellent headset for its price, the best I have used for its price bracket. I have used extensivley the Turtle Beach X12, the Logitech Clearchat Premium, the Microsoft Lifechat lx-3000, and this Z11.

Why is it the best?

The second best are the X12's which are similar. The x12s are designed mainly for console gaming, but they work great on the PC too. The main issue I had with the X12's were that they were amplified which I personally do not like. There is a constant quiet hissing noise in the background due to the amplifier, which may not bother other people. The Z11's get louder then my ears can handle so amplification is not needed.

The Microsoft Lifechat lx-3000's were ok. They hurt my ears after about an hour on my head and the earcups did not breathe very good. The earcups like to popoff the headband sometimes too, but it was never an issue popping them back on. Also they had a very strange issue. They had a strange limited volume range. If I moved the volume slider all the way down (doesn't matter the computer or operating system I tried this on) a normal headset would be completely quiet, but these seemed like all the way down was around %33 volume which is strange.

The Logitech Clearchat Premiums were crap and I do not reccomend them. One of the earcups snapped off. They sounded worse then the other headsets, and they made my ears feel terrible. I do not reccomend these. The price was right however.

The Z11s are the best I have used for cheap headsets. They are the most comfortable by far (same as x12's). More importantly they are not amplified, so there is no hisssssss in the background constantly (and I think they sound a little more pure for some reason). They also use a 3.5mm jack instead of USB which I personally prefer. There is a handly volume dial on the cord. USB headsets have a similar volume dial, but it just controls the windows volume slider via software. This gives ultimatley the same effect, but the hardware dial on the z11's is faster, more accurate, and can be fine tuned better. These also have the 4-conductor 3.5mm that can be used it laptops and Ipads that use it. The mic sounds great, no issue there. It has excellent sound quality with great bass, better then the others I have mentioned.

These are not 100+ dollar premium headsets. They are built cheaply to reduce costs. However I do not ever feel like I will break these. The build quality is perfectly sufficient. Overall these are the best bang for your buck if you want a good set of headphones for gaming, don't want to spend a lot, and don't want to worry a nice set getting destroyed on accident.

4A Notebook to Envy
By Tyler Sloan
The Envy 15t-j000 is a high end laptop made by Hewlett-Packard that offers fast processing power with a 2.4 GHz Intel Core I7, and with the upgraded graphics option, can handle almost any game on the market. This machine is a good alternative for gamers looking to have a more portable option than a desktop computer or a heavy gaming laptop. After owning this computer for three months I have encountered very few problems with the machine. The overall build quality seems very solid and reliable, something I would expect from an $800 computer. The one terabyte hard drive is more than enough memory for the average user and the excess hard drive space means that very little management of the hard drive is required, as most users will not fill the one terabyte hard drive in the life of the computer. I have only used 170 gigabytes of the 905 gigabytes of available storage and have installed most of the programs that I need or enjoy using. I have never been a fan of touchpads, however the touchpad on the Envy 15t-j000 had surprisingly smooth motion on the screen and quite responsive. While this computer runs very quickly and provides the performance I required while remaining portable, I do have a few issues with the device. The most aggravating thing about the machine is the lack of an optical drive. When purchasing the computed I did not even think to check if it came with one because it seemed like it should be standard, however this laptop does not include one. This is easily remedied by purchasing and external CD-ROM drive, however it is an inconvenience especially when taking the computer places. The lack of the option to downgrade to Windows 7 was disappointing however Hewlett-Packard did a good job with integrating their own start menu when in desktop mode, a feature windows 8 lacks. This allows you to use Windows 8 just like Windows 7 which makes up for the lack of the optional downgrade. Overall, the performance, build quality, and large hard drive make this computer a good and reliable purchase that I would recommend to users looking for performance on the go. I have been very pleased with the computer so far and look forward to discovering what else the machine has to offer.

4Jumpy touchpad ruins otherwise nice laptop
By M. Levine
I bought an HP Envy 15t (no touch screen, 4th gen i7 processor) direct from HP and I love it. The sales rep helped me make good choices to keep the cost down while giving me a perfectly usable PC. However, I was so unhappy with a small dopey feature that I was ready to send it back. The feature was the "touchpad" - that indented rectangle below the keyboard that is supposed to replace a mouse. It was so very horrible that it was ruining my life - that stupid indented rectangle. What the hell? Don't designers actually use these PCs or do they all use Macs? With the help of customer support, I enabled a hidden amazingly fantastic feature: now when I plug in a USB mouse, the whole damn touchpad turns into a cup holder. When I unplug the mouse, the touchpad comes back to life as a total piece of dogdoo.

Funny how a problem in a small component can render an otherwise wonderful PC almost useless. The problem, you wonder? I was forever unintentionally brushing the touchpad with the balls of my hands as I typed. At least that's what I suspect the problem to be. I never felt myself doing it but the cursor was always jumping around the page. With the touchpad disabled, I can now type complete sentences without checking to make sure that the cursor is still in place.

I would rate the HP Envy 15t a 1 of 5 with the touchpad enabled and a 4 of 5 with a mouse and disabled touchpad. If you buy it, invest a few bucks in a nice mouse.

4Good product, does what it claims - to organize your receipts
By Gadget Lover
I upgraded from the Neat Receipts 3.0 scanner to the Neat Works 4.0 scanner package recently. I like the Neat Receipts 3.0 scanner, but the upgrade is really worth it.

For starters the quick scan center with the new version takes less system resources and it allows the user to enter receipts in batches, which is efficient. I was able to scan a pile of 277+ receipts in one night, while watching television. Pretty painless and easy to do without requiring a lot of attention, so you can make good use of downtime while you're watching TV / relaxing, etc.

The best part of this is not the physical scanner, it's the software. It allows me to look up previous receipts in a jiffy, and lets me shred / toss old receipts. The physical scanner is nice too though. It's definitely not photo quality, but that's not why I bought this package. The scanner works fairly well / quickly for most receipts, a bit better than the silver version even though they're supposedly the same hardware. I find with the older version the USB would fail to be recognized by Windows XP, but no such problems with the new version.

If you want to organize your receipts and keep good records, I highly recommend this package! It's the one of the few products that actually does what it claims to do. Excellent product.

Future improvement wishes would be speedier scans, but that is limited by the scanning technology and hardware specifications.

FYI - yes it will sometimes have difficulty scanning very light receipts, but that is to be expected with a scanner like this. If one expects photo quality scanner this is not the one to buy. A photo quality scanner will take too long to scan receipts. This scanner captures receipts information pretty well but it does not produce a photo replica of the receipt.

Also, the other reviewer mentioned problems with USB. Quite often that is a problem with Windows, especially on a Windows system that's been run for quite sometime and with a lot of other accessories installed. I installed this on 3 of my windows XP systems and they all worked fine. If I ever have a problem I would reinstall Windows as Windows tends to get cluttered with hardware profiles and have problems with USB devices.

4Loving it during my first 8 hrs of ownership
By D. Mashino
The ratio of bad reviews to good reviews here on this NeatWorks scanner was dubious so though I desperately needed a receipt-scanning solution, I really hadn't taken the plunge until I visited Costco and must've been riding a wave of positive-ness because I walked in, wasn't looking to buy anything, but when I saw only 2 left of this product on the shelf, I took one.

Got home, inserted the set-up CD as instructed and nothing. I'm running a new (1yr old) Dell with very sufficient hardware/memory running WinXP. But I figure sometimes the CD set-up is wonky, so I ejected then reinserted and it worked; brought up the set-up initialization screen. It asked me to check online for a version newer than what was shipped; I did, and there was. So after 10 minutes of downloading a 200mb file, I was done. Clicked the file, set-up was a snap (took 10-12 minutes) and off I went. Connected the scanner by USB cable and everything worked; no crashing.

Tested a batch of 15 receipts to see if it could handle the crinkled, faded, potentially illegible imprints on what seemingly is the standard thermal paper being used by all merchants. Alas, this product worked fine; and it worked as promised. Scanned all receipts, and was able to make not only the correct (99% of the time) OCR function for amounts, dates, retailer, and sales tax, it also was able to be relatively correct in judging which sector of retail (general receipt, food, etc.) it should categorize my purchases.

So the initial test was done; I was pleased. So now I wanted to dig deep and scan roughly 6 weeks of receipts that I'd amassed -- roughly 200 receipts. This would've really been a test, since half of these receipts were nearly 4-6 weeks old, they were crinkled from being shoved into my pocket or folio while on the road, and some were teeny-tiny receipts like taxi receipts from Manhattan.

Result? Got through it all, and except for roughly 5 receipts out of my total 197, the scanner and software were both able to recognize most receipt fields and categorize them correctly. Oddly, and I think this is because of the clarity of the receipt vs. software, some receipts were ported into the "Documents" category vs. "Receipts" area. That was remedied easily by dragging each image from "Documents" to "Receipts."

"Areas," you ask? The software gives you 3 distinct areas that it will move your raw scans into; those are RECEIPTS, DOCUMENTS, and BUSINESS CARDS. I'm guessing the software takes ques from the content plus the size of the scan to determine where images should go. Like I said, the software was mostly correct except for a few faded receipts, but when I moved those stray images from "Documents" to "Receipts," the software kicked-in and was able to read the proper field information (amount, etc.) correctly.

From these areas, you can then file your raw scans into varying folders that you can create, or into document types if you'd like to export as PDF, etc. It's pretty simple, and I have never used a product from NeatWorks, so I have no way to compare previous versions with this 4.5.2 version that I'm using.

I looked at negative reviews and can say that I have neither had the software or hardware cause crashes, reboots, stalls, freezes, or any other degradation of my laptop from working as it normally does.

Also, I had no real OCR problems with the scanner or software recognizing figures or names. In fact, the only constant problem I had was with drugstore chain "Longs Drugs" which uses only a logo and not typewritten version of its name on receipts, so the software took to recognizing the first item in my receipt as the name, so I had numerous prescription receipts filed as "Hallmark" since I had bought cards with those purchases. What amazes me is the software is able to decipher through all the cr*p that's listed on receipts; these days, surveys, serial numbers, and other gobbledy-gook are all listed and yet the software was able to filter through that and report the correct field information.

A couple cautions: 1) Handwritten numbers have never been recognized in any of my scans, 2) Export data to Quicken in groups based on the accounts you use in Quicken.

As to #1 above, those who have a lot of written-in totals at restaurants for tip, etc., will find this problematic. Every receipt I'd gotten for a meal (which were a lot) I had to correct with the tip included vs. the software recognizing only the subtotal before tip.

And as to #2 above, I found that importing into Quicken was a snap (as QIF file), but since Quicken will only dump all data in a QIF file into a single account, you need to filter this BEFORE the export. For example, if you use multiple cards like I do for various clients and you keep track of each account separately in Quicken, then you'd better categorize those purchases in NeatWorks accordingly, and then selectively export those transactions. That way, your import into Quicken is done per account. It's easier that way, than having to use the "Move Transaction" function in Quicken.

I'd say 4 stars because I had no elements of surprise and no hiccups in service. I'd rate it 5 stars after about 3-6 months of ownership if this flawless experience keeps up. I'll be back in September to report.

1Beware - Not Backward Compatible
By stevecat
(NOTE: see my update on NeatWorks ver 5 below)

I have been using NeatReceipts for a couple of years now. I generally like the product, but I am now using BOTH the 'Classic ver 1.5.9" and the new Ver 4.0 software because NeatWorks broke a covenant with its' early adopters. They broke two of the cardinal rules of product development (1) never, ever, under any circumstances forget your early customers and their data and (2) never remove vital features from the product.

First, they "forgot" their "Classic ver 1.5.9" users. Versions of the software from 2.0 up thru the current ver 4.1 cannot recognize or import any of the receipts or documents scanned into the earlier version. I have personally talked to them about this for almost 2 years. At first, in early 2007, they repeatedly stated that they were hard at work on a migration solution. We depended on that statement, telling them how important it was for us to be able to access our archived data - for inventories, insurance and tax records.

But they finally just abandoned this effort and offered everyone a discount to upgrade to a later version. How is that going to help with restoring archived data? The data and file formats for their .elrec and .eldoc seem fairly simple - a scanned image and some recognized text fields. Why can't they import those formats like they allow for jpeg and tiff images?

They offered no acceptable reasons beyond that we are no longer working on that feature and "would you like to upgrade?". They seem oblivious to the frustrations they have caused a large number of their early customers. We even communicated with Rafi Spero, one of the companies owners. If he couldn't make it happen, you know they don't care about you as a customer. BEWARE THIS COMPANY.

Secondly: The "Classic" version allowed users to create folders and subfolders, etc. This was a fantastic way to organize receipts for cash, various credit cards, checks and debits, by year and then by month. Or to organize a copy of receipts for an inventory by broad categories and then further by store, year or vendor. So the initial features of both subfolders and the ability to copy receipts from yearly tax records to inventory folders was extremely useful and helpful in elimnating paperwork clutter.

The new ver 4 software does not support nested folders or copying receipts to other folders. Every time you scan a receipt, it goes into a folder. But all folders are on the same level. You can show and hide folders, but this is an extremely clumsy process and causes users a lot of extra work in trying to organize their invoices and receipts. If you want to copy a receipt, you have to scan it AGAIN. How brain-dead is that?

Bottom Line: This company has proven that, at their convenience, they will ignore or abandon prior versions of the software and remove vital features.

To fix some of their current short-coming, as mentioned above, it would not surprise me to see them create a new version of their software that is incompatible with what they are selling today.

DO NOT TRUST them with any vital data that you may need in the future.

UPDATE: 2-11-2010 - I have been given a preview of the new NeatWorks ver5 software. I don't know when it will be released but it seems to have (finally) added back in some of the features that went missing with ver 2 and onward. Now they also have a chance to allow for importing old receipts (".elrec" files) from their "Classic" users. If they do Import ".elrec" files many Classic users will be happy that their data is no longer "orphaned". I will then change my opinion and rating of NeatWorks and their products because they did admit to these past mistakes, listen and respond to their customers and "the true test of your character is how you respond to those mistakes."

5A great projector
By K. Norris
I purchased this projector to be used at functions for a social club. We generally show DVD's in a room that is only slightly darkened, with the projector about 15' from the screen, and club members view it from 20 - 50 ft away. So we needed a projector with some muscle to get an image large and crisp enough to be enjoyed from the back of the room. I researched lots of projectors, and this one seemed to offer the best quality for a reasonable price. We weren't disappointed - the image is about 8' wide and very sharp. It has lots of fancy features which we probably won't use, but the basics are easy enough to figure out. My one gripe is that there is no operating manual - only a CD with the manual on it, which might be convenient if you have a dedicated laptop you are using with the projector, but useless if you are using it with a DVD player.
If you are a first-time projector buyer (like I was), I recommend the following link, which I found on the Radio Shack website:[...] They had a very nice explanation of what all these specification acronyms actually mean in terms of a good picture. In a nutshell:
Lumens - higher number means brighter picture in a less than dark room (very important for us)
Resolution - the fineness of detail (i.e. high-def - see the website for details) This projector isn't really high-def, but it seems you have pay twice the price for the next higher level.
Contrast ratio - higher number means a greater difference between the lights and darks - (important since our DVD's are shot in low lighting)
Throw ratio - how big the picture will be - a smaller number actually means a bigger picture. The Viewsonic website has a nifty calculator that helps you see how big your picture will be at a given distance.
Hope this helps the non-techies out there! Happy viewing!

5Phenomenal Product! Would buy again!
By ResaHJ
HOW I USE IT

I conduct numerous workshops, meetings and gatherings in the midst of my organization. I needed a light-weight, easy to use product that had good to excellent picture quality; and that was easily transportable.

HOW IT ARRIVED

The Projector arrived packaged in a standard box encased by Styrofoam, and wrapped in a typical protective covering. It shipped by UPS ground and arrived on schedule.

My First Use

When it arrived, I wanted to make sure the projector worked properly and had all the cables needed to power it up and connect to my PC. There are a number of thorough reviews here so I am going to focus specifically on my experience right out of the box.
I unpacked it, powered it up and connected it to my PC. Without having to do anything else -- accept adjust the height to meet my 80-in screen - I turned on my PC and was EXTREMELY surprised by the high, picture quality and vivid colors, even in a well lit room. After closing the blinds and turning off the lights, I was even more astounded -- especially given the price and my level of expectation. It was BEYOND my expectations.

I decided to test things out on my husband and kids. So, I logged into my Netflix account and begin playing the latest episode of Power Rangers. My son immediately thought that I had set this up "just for him" -- and wanted pop corn, and for me to leave the room so he could watch a movie. My husband began talking about movie night with the family, and I knew I had chosen well.

The biggest highlight for me, however, was that all I had to do was turn it on using the remote, turn on my PC and adjust the height. From setup to sitting down watch Power Rangers took about 13 minutes. The light didn't have to heat up and I didn't have to look at the initial instructions a single time.

I do, however, plan to become familiar with the functionality of the projector and learn to use the remote to make the best of my experiences. The other reviews on this site cover the "details" very well, so... I didn't think it was necessary to restate those things.

I am VERY SATISFIED with my purchase and experience. Great product and even better price.
