5Great
By M. Ocean
If you're looking at this processor you've probably narrowed your choices down to these options:

1. Intel I7-4771 (this item)
2. Intel I7-4770
3. Intel I7-4770k

Hopefully I can make this decision easier for some of you. First off, do you want to overclock your processor? Keep in mind the thermal range of these Haswell processors isn't like that of the old Sandy Bridge you might be upgrading from. I think most people can achieve 4.2 on a good air system and certainly some have pushed higher than that, but it isn't the easy and massive jump SB offered (4.5 on air EASILY). So you have to decide if a relatively mild OC is worth it to you or not. If you want to overclock you have to get the 4770k.

If you aren't going to overclock there is really no reason to buy the 4770 over the 4771. Just get this one, it's ever so slightly better than the 4770 because the base clock is based on the same as the 4770k (3.5ghz vs 3.4ghz on 4770). In single core performance the 4771 benchmarks about 10% better than the 4770. In real world use you won't notice the difference, but if you're buying new now you might as well get the better option.

I haven't had my processor for that long but I don't expect any problems and I'm really happy with the performance of my system. This is an Intel chip. It's great. It would be better if it made waffles but I suppose I can live without that.

5Great CPU, No Overclocking
By Spire
I used this CPU in a recent PC build that I built exclusively through Amazon.com. I'm including the core build below so that others contemplating can see how I put the system together. I definitely recommend this CPU, as it's out of the box fast, and without factory fault.

5Blazes Through Everything I Throw At It
By Bill Farmer
I absolutely love this CPU. This is for my personal PC; I upgraded just over a month ago. I have this paired with Asus Sabertooth Z87 mobo, 128GB SSD, EVGA GTX780 Superclocked, and 32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1866 RAM. I think the I7-4770 gets the most love, but this CPU blazes through everything I throw at it. I also want to say that for a very long time I've been an AMD fan boy. Not so anymore. Maybe it's because I can afford the Intel products more easily now or maybe they are just better, but my old mantra of 'go with AMD you get the best bang for your buck' is out the window. I built this Haswell I7 for myself last month and an Ivy Bridge I7 for my wife earlier this year as well as going with an Ivy Bridge I7 laptop late last year. If you are tired of waiting on your PC, go I7 because you won't regret it.

I am running everything at stock. I'm sure a lot of people will read that and think I'm lame, but CPU and GPU are both running at stock. I don't need anything faster. On this system, I can have all of the windows open I want and everything is super responsive with no waiting for anything. I also can reboot in 15 seconds or less. That time is from clicking reboot to desktop.

One of the great things about this CPU and the chipsets etc., needed for the Haswell platform is seems so much more power efficient. My battery backups shows the power consumption of the devices connected and when I idle on this system (not in sleep/hibernate as I turn that off), I idle around 65W with monitors off compared to 120-130W with my old system (AMD Phenom II x4).
