Incredible Processor!

You may need to update your BIOS for your motherboard to recognize this CPU. It is an LGA 2011 socket platform CPU but these are the new Ivy Bridge E 4th generation Core i7 Extreme microprocessors hence a BIOS update may be needed. I had to use the Asus USB BIOS Flasback cause my P9X79 board wouldn't even start into BIOS. The motherboard CPU warning light would turn on when trying to power on so I downloaded the lastest BIOS from Asus website. Renamed the file extension from .ROM to .CAP. Copied it to a Fat formatted USB stick. Stuck it into the motherboard USB port and pressed the flashback button. Waited a few minutes and it was done. There is a video on the Asus website on how to do this. Finally the system booted up right away and then I literally just put the CPU voltage to 1.2 and the multiplier to 44 and it's been running cool at 4.4 GHz every since. It could easily go higher but this is more than enough power for me. I haven't done any formal stability testing yet though, just a few benchmarks but I've been playing BF3 for days now (ultra detail at 100 to 150 fps) and now BF4 and it's been very stable for me. Other specs are ASUS P9X79 board, Intel RTS2011LC Water-Cooling Kit, Kingston 16 GB DDR3 1600mhz ram, PowerColor HD7990 6GB GDDR5 V2, XFX Pro 850 Watt PSU, Kingston SSD 120 GB, and Windows 8.1. In BF4 I'm averaging about 80-120 fps in ultra settings across all maps. In BF4 CPU hits about 70-80% load with temps hovering around 48c. Idle temps are about 30c.

Update 11/3/2013:
I just increased my overclock by a little bit more. This time I set the CPU voltage to 1.225 v. BLCK frequency was set to 100 Mhz. Multiplier was set to 45 giving me an overclock of 4.5 GHz. Memory settings and timings were the same as before, 9-9-9-27 at 1600 Mhz. I ran a 4 hour Prime95 blend test and it passed all tests. CPU temperature range during the 4 hour test at 100% load was a minimum 48c to a maximum 53c. It stayed mostly between the 48c to 50c range throughout the test however. Idle temp right now is 31c.

Update 11/14/2013
With the recent BF4 update I'm averaging a much higher fps with 100-150 fps on ultra settings and still overclocked at 4.5 GHz. **Other things to consider: Intel will be releasing their new Haswell-E 6 and 8 core CPUs in the 2nd half of 2014. It will run on a new X99 chipset with support for the new upcoming DDR4 ram. DDR4 ram however won't be released to the consumer desktop segment until 2015 supposedly. Can you wait for about a year to upgrade to one of these new Haswell-E CPU's and stick with your current system for now or do you badly need to upgrade right now? This is an important question to consider. For me I'm pleased with my upgrade and the value and cost I got for it. We'll have to see what the pricing will be on these new 6 and 8 core CPUs but the previous Intel 6 core CPU offerings have been prohibitively expensive for quite some time at least for the mainstream to enthusiast gamers.

Pretty Darn Awesome

Well were to start I've been building AMD machines because the price to performance ratio is very high. This is my first Intel build and I'm very impressed. I did allot of research on the both the 4770K and the 4820K and decided on the 4820K for it's better crossfire/sli support, in order to get 2 full length pci-e X16 slots. These can be had on z87 boards but it can be much more expensive, my X79 board of choice is a GA-X79-UD3, I ended up paying $199 for it and it is pretty good, the board had a sketchy beginning but the new rev1.1 is great and compliments the 4820K very well. Now for the reason I got the 4820K over the 4770K, the 4820K is the better overclocker, it uses solder on the IHCS rather than thermal paste, AND the voltage control since its ivy-bridge remains on the motherboard where it belongs. The 4770K beats the 4820K at stock speeds but when overclocked it performs way better and since the cpu runs so cool my hyper 212 evo can keep this thing at 45*C at full load and withstand 8hrs of prime95 "blend" test at 4.3GHz and not even come up with an error. Sure you can overclock the 4770K but you are going to see temps exceeding 60*C even on water cooling and though they just run at those temps normally I still don't like them. The 4820K is rock solid even though it was $320 I feel as if it were money well spent. Most would say its overkill for a gaming build but since I have the innate ability to multitask the crap out of a computer with a primary/auxiliary monitor I feel I could make very good use of it. All in all the total up grade came out to around $525, am I happy with it? OHH Yess........

This processor is big!

First thing is this a huge processor. packing is small and that is because it does not come with a cooler. You have to buy a cooler separately but Intel offers a cooler which I listed below.

Install was easy and the processor was heavier than any other bare processor I have seen. Best of all this processor is super fast, installing windows 7 took almost half the amount of time on a SSHD.

A good but flawed attempt from Belkin

I'm the "Tech Daddy" on the Huffington Post, and I really wanted to like this device -- really! I'd been tracking it since it was first announced a little less than 2 years ago. At one time I chalked it up to vaporware, as the release date kept changing. But finally it was here and I couldn't wait to order it.

After all that anticipation, I'm sorry to say the device is is less than stellar, for the following reasons:

1. YOU CANNOT BOOT FROM IT -- nowhere online or in any print materials does Belkin mention this. Even on their own website they don't bring it up! BTW, there is no manual for the device; only an FAQ, and it's pretty paltry. Anyway, I had backed up a client's Mac to their new USB 3 external drive, and I used the Dock to connect that drive as their MacBook Pro doesn't have USB 3 ports. But it DOES have Thunderbolt! Using the Dock, the backup speeds were very impressive, indeed. HOWEVER ... I found that I could not boot from that drive, or any connected device, because they weren't recognized at startup. Bad Belkin!

2. THE ESATA PORT IS GONE -- originally the device as described by Belkin was going to have an eSata port. But when I unboxed the product, there was none to be found. I since learned that Belkin revised the device TWICE since its original announcement, and decided to drop the eSata port. That was one of the main reasons I wanted it: to use the eSata ports on my external drives. I did manage a workaround, though: I got a $30 eSata to USB3 cable and did it that way.

3. USB3 SPEED IS LIMITED TO 2.5GB/S -- the promise of unleashing full 5GB/S USB3 speed will have to wait for another day. For whatever reason, Belkin very quietly, and in small print, says 2.5GB/S is the maximum using the Dock. Really?

4. YOU MUST USE OS X 10.8.4 FOR THE DOCK TO FUNCTION ON A MAC -- not a huge problem, except when I tried to backup my client's drive from their Mac running OS X 10.7.5. The idea was to back it up, then completely reformat the machine for a new user. Instead I had to waste 20 minutes updating the system to 10.8.4 before I could start the backup. I *think* I still saved time overall, but not that much.

As for what some others have complained about -- flaky behavior or devices disappearing off the desktop -- I didn't see any of that. However, the caveats I just listed are enough for me to send it back and wait for Sonnet's even MORE expensive, but also WAY more juicy Echo 15 with 15 -- count 'em -- 15 ports! The Echo 15 will not only feature bootability and eSata, but a built-in DVD or Blu-Ray drive AND a traditional or SSD drive as well. For what I'm looking for, that'll be a lot better I'm sure.

Hot plugin doesn't work correctly with this box

This dock station doesn't handle the hot plugin correctly. Each time I connect it to MacBook Retina laptop with the thunderbolt cable, it simply messes up my monitor settings, and I need to restart my MacBook Retina laptop to recover from it. So stay away from this dock station.

This solution didn't work for me

Wanted to find a solution that would let me to disconnect just one wire from my MacBook Pro (Spring '11). Got it yesterday. Returned today for the following reasons:

1. I'm using hardwire connection, but the ethernet jack has some issues: after working for a couple of hours it'd lose connection. Belkin's tech support suggested to unplug the power for 10 sec. I did, and it helped for a couple of more hours... Not sure if it was a problem of this particular unit.

2. I'm using an external mike that's connected to my MacBook with optical cable via the Line In input. But this dock doesn't have replication of the Line In input - the have a jack for the mike, but it's not the same. So I was not able to hook up my high quality mike to the dock.

3. When I plugged my iPhone charger to the USB on the dock the iTunes didn't see my iPhone. So synchronization from iTunes didn't work.

I guess, this device may have some use for other people, but not for me. On the positive note I have to say that returning of this unit was pretty easy - they emailed me a prepaid UPS shipping slip.

I'm not a professional gamer but I do like playing games occasionally. This headset is a very, very nice compliment to online gaming.

First, the set comes large, over-the-head, headphone. Large foam cups on the left and right can drop down or swivel to the side at your convenience.

The input jacks--one for the mic and one for the headphone speakers are connected to a usb interface.

Then you have to go to Logitect's site and download the drivers from their support section. We have Windows 8 Pro but the site gives you option going back to XP.

This is a dynamic 7.1 stereo headphone w/ speaker. But, you can adjust the volume, stereo/ surround and EQ settings in the app that's installed.

*** Testing ***

After having a couple of weeks, the padding doesn't feel as secure as when I first tried them on. I only wear them for up to 2 hours at a time, but my guess is, if you're one of these gamers that doesn't leave her/his chair for hours and hours then you may notice that the sound bleeds through the gaps between the beautiful, but relatively thin foam padding and your ears.

If you enjoy the occasional gaming experience, you probably won't notice the difference between this model and a more expensive model.

Great sound

First of all let me state that this headset does not have true discrete 7.1 surround sound hardware built-in. What I mean is it is the Dolby Headphone algorithm integrated into the software that simulates the surround sound experience when using stereo headphones. The headset is your average 2ch stereo headset with mic. It does not have multiple individual drivers in them like some of the very high-end surround sound headsets. The headset is analog but the package comes with a USB adapter which allows you to use a USB port instead of a mini headphone jack. The adapter is just a basic digital to analog converter.

With that said, the surround sound simulation sounds really good and the headphones do not hold back the sound quality at all. In fact the sound quality is quite good especially when using the customizable EQ to tailor the sound to your liking. One minor issue I've discovered is that the drivers in the headset are not powerful enough to produce the LFE channel without distortion at higher volume levels. On the other hand I did like the fact the settings for the headphones do not affect your speaker settings. For example your EQ settings only apply to the headphones which means when listening through your standalone surround sound receiver and speakers the headphone EQ is completely bypassed.

The headset itself is fairly basic...it's very lightweight which is good but it's mostly plastic so it feels cheap even though the build quality is very good. I'm not a fan of the color scheme myself, would've preferred all black ear cushions. The boom mic swivels up out of the way when you don't need it and the inline volume controller has a on/off switch for the mic. What's great is if you have a favorite pair of highend headphones/headset you could use it with the included adaptor and enjoy the same surround sound experience. Oh btw the software works in WindowsXP even though it's not listed in the description as an officially supported OS.

Great headset

I bought this as the deal of the day, and it was a great decision. The headset works on both windows and mac through the usb adapter, which is nice, but you only get stereo sound on the mac os (not complaining, still a great headset). The logitech 7.1 software works quite well. you get good sound form the simulated 7.1 channels. The mic works great as well. The noise cancelling works like a charm, so no stray noises. One of the best headsets I own.
